Well, I have decided that from Monday I am

  1. Going to lose weight and stop making excuses and put it off anymore

2)Make exercise a regular part of my life, which will mean shaking the months of dust off my clothes hanger exercise bike.

  1. Start to feel good about myself again, and imagine myself in lots of lovely clothes for the Spring. This will involve looking at myself in a mirror and thinking good thoughts

I am 5ft 3 and tipping the scales at a disgusting 12 stone 7lbs. Ideally I want to get to 9 stone 7 lbs so 3 stone to lose. Eeeek! Anyone fancy joining me?

Robino I have learnt my lesson regarding shop bought sarnies now! Don't know if its anything to do with the sarnie but I have felt so bloated since yesterday. My body has probably gone into shock after actually having some calories!

Sweet Glad all went well for your ds.

crazy Well doing on going out and getting some exercise in. I know what you mean about Winter. Its a time for eating stodgy food and hiding the excess weight under jumpers. It's difficult isn't it.

Weighing in tomnorrow but got a feeling I haven't lost anything this week, but we shall see.

OK - weighing in for the first time. I am now apparently 12 stone 6lbs which is a decrease of 6lbs. The lack of is due to the fact that the decrease is due to 4 days enforced starvation rather than real efffort on my part. I expect I will increase next week as I have eaten too much chocolate and activity levels are virtually zero.

I s'pose if I can keep at least some of it off then that will be a Good Thing.

Good luck all Friday weigher-inners

sweetboysmum · 30/10/2009 09:05

Wow 6 lbs Robino, tha't a lot. Shame you were so ill to lose it though. You're allowed to not be active this week as you've be ill and concentrating getting better.

I've lost 1 measly pound this week. I was particulalry bad last weekend so I am not too surpised. However I am very motivated to stick to my healthy eating this weekend so am hopeful I'll lose more than a pound at next weeks weigh in. I'm trying to think of a pound of cheese and feel better that at least I've lost that. Better than putting on I suppose.

I know I shouldn't, but after the last 2 weekends I've weighed myself on the Monday and put on about 4 lbs on the weekend. Is my metabolism so slow? I don't eat that much at weekends to gain so much weight over 2 days surely?!

Good luck ladies, hope you all have lost or, if not, are feeling motivated to lose next week. x

defyinggravity · 30/10/2009 09:14

Excellent on the 6lbs loss Robino.

I'm joining you sweet on only losing 1 measly lb this week as well. Very annoying but at least its a loss and not a gain eh.

Right I'm doing this. At a wedding this afternoon so am going to try and make a sensible choice but am then going to start with a vengeance (sp?) tomorrow morning.

Have planned my meals for the week and done my shopping list for the morning.

Ra!!!

moonshine · 30/10/2009 18:08

Have been tip-toeing around this thread as have not been 'in the zone' and am still waiting for totm which is making me grumpy and bloated and spotty etc etc

Sweet - glad all was fine although I'm not sure what an 'innocent' heart murmur is?

Robino - well done - it had to come off eventually.

defying - I hate mayo etc so that helps but it makes it almost impossible to buy sandwiches (doesn't help me stop being fat though ).

Welcome Addicted - are you going to change your name then or just change your addiction ?

I start again tomorrow after I have sobbed into a few glasses of wine tonight and consumed some serious carbs....

Good luck for the weekend all.

Slimcognito · 31/10/2009 00:05

I've not been doing well this week but have lost 2 lb - could be water or just the result of what little restraint I have been exercising - ie no mega binges even if I haven't been properly trying...

Well done to those who lost this week and wow 6lb Robino - good going.

Next week I really want to get some exercise in.

TheDemonicButDandyLioness · 31/10/2009 00:40

sweetboy Am and at your friend.

And like you, I did what I shouldn't and weighed myself more than once this week (every day so far, in fact )

My weighing day is Monday. I'd lost a pound. On tuesday, I'd lost two pounds. But then on Wed, I'd put on three pounds. In a day. And my weight's stayed like that for the past few days. How can it be that I was losing and then suddenly I gained? I've actually been doing some exercise this week, and have eaten less calories overall.

Am feeling rather depressed at my weight. I have several, several stones to lose to get to a healthy weight. I wonder if there's just too much to go, I've left it too late (should have shifted the weight a while ago), and I'm destined to be v. overweight.
I know I'm just throwing myself a pity party, and I really want to snap out of it. It's not like I even believe in destiny. I'm usually quite brave and good at achieving my goals ... accept when it comes to weight loss. It's my real weakpoint, which is why I feel down about it. I can get other areas of my life in check, but not this.

A

defyinggravity · 31/10/2009 09:35

DandyLioness I know a few would gasp at the advice I would give but to get you motivated and shift some weight rapidly, maybe do an atkins or other low carb diet, or even slimfast or other low cal options for a few weeks to kick start the weight loss. It will shift some weight and then you can go onto calorie / fat counting with a bit more motivation?

It's worked for me in the past when I've got fed up of just losing a pound or less each week.

Feel free to ignore my advice, but I totally get where you're coming from, and losing weight it can seem like an insurmountable mountain to climb at times.

OP posts:
defyinggravity · 31/10/2009 09:36

Forgot to add that you should always measure yourself once a week too, as even though the scales might not show a loss you might find the odd inch has disappeared hre and there.

robino · 31/10/2009 11:22

Slimcognito can take no credit for 6lb loss - got sent to hospital with suspected but confusing appendicitis. Ate one slice of toast in 4 days while they worked out what it was and then operated! My mission now is to keep some of it off. Well done on your hard earned weightloss

Dandy is it worth just focussing on one new thing a week to help with weight loss so that you do succeed and do feel in control? For example - week one, drink at least 3 pints of water a day so you know it's not thirst rather than hunger, week 2 continue with that and make sure breakfast is as healthy and sustaining as poss, week three make sure your morning snack is fruit. Sorry if teaching to suck eggs but if you are used to being and feeling in control it might be a way forward.

smileyboy · 31/10/2009 16:15

Bit late reporting but my weight day is Friday, lost another 2;bs this week so quite happy with that. Well done on all the losses. 6lbs and 4lbs!!! Wow well done guys, even though they are both medical reasons and illness it's a good kickstart to losing the weight!

I have not been so good today and ate loads of cheese this morning! (I crave cheese all the time). Hoping I'll make up for it by excercising but not too confident about that! Good luck everyone.

mrstimlovejoy · 01/11/2009 11:24

lost 2lbs this week, went out for dinner on fri and resisted chips had a really nice salad instead.
going out with friends tomorrow night for my birthday but am determined to eat something fairly healthy
having chicken today with steamed veg.have made a bakewell tart to have for pudding as it's cold and miserable.
smileyboy- cheese is the one thing i struggle with trying not to eat i'd rather have cheese than chocolate
hope you all have a good week

pinkmagic1 · 01/11/2009 11:33

Can I join in. Iv'e been doing slimfast for just over a week (the longest I've ever stuck to any diet!) I'm 5'7'' and before I started the diet weighed nearly 14 stones! I weighed myself on Thursday which was 4 1/2 days since my last weigh in and am pleased to say I had lost 5lbs! So pleased and made me even more determined. I'm going to do it this time!

sweetboysmum · 01/11/2009 12:38

Hi Ladies,

Lots of success this week with the weight loss - well done girls. I've been doing ok since Friday morning. My only downfall has been half a home made pizza last night, with quite a lot of cheese on it. However as weekends are my major downfall I'm hoping that I don't put on the usual 4lbs over the weekend. I won't be able to resist weighing tomorrow.

TheDemonicButDandyLioness isn't it so confusing/depressing that weight fluctuates quite so much? I think in the past when I've reached a goal weight it's been the weekends that have put the stones on me! I'll need to remember to always weigh myself weekly when I reach my target or it'll pile back on I'm sure. Not that I'll get to target for some months yet!

Moonshine - I'm not very good at explaining an innocent heart murmur. Dr said it sounded like a whoosh and these can often be due to problems with the arteries, sometimes a hole in the heart etc. However, 2 docs listened and lo just has the whoosh noise but a perfectly working heart. As I said, not very good at explaining but we're reassured and happy he's fine.

Pinkmagic1 - wow I am vey impressed Slimfast is working for you! I'm on it too, have been for a couple of months but have never lost that much so quickly. Do you like Slimfast? I love it. Probably all the sugar that's in it though! I try and eat only healthy snacks and meals due to this. My rules, erm... change at weekends though.

pinkmagic1 · 01/11/2009 17:36

Sweetboysmum- Not so keen on the milkshakes tbh but like the meal bars and the smoothies, especially the raspberry one. Normally have a meal/cereal bar for breakfast and then either a smoothie or shake for lunch. I wouldn't have the shake out of choice but you can get the powder and it works out cheaper than the other things. I will have a couple of snacks during the day too, normally a piece of fruit, low fat yoghurt or one of the slimfast snacks and then a normal meal at night. I do get chocolate cravings so will have a mug of 'skinny cow' hot chocolate most nights and this seems to curb it!

Monadami · 02/11/2009 01:08

Well I've now been on my weight loss plan for 2 weeks and have so far lost 5 pounds. I still have over 3 stones to go, my target weight being around 10stones 5Lbs and a size 10. I'm currently 14-16.

I'm taking it all very seriously and have done a spreadsheet, where I chart everything I've eaten everyday, so I know how many calories and fat I've had, aiming for between 1400 and 1600 cals per day and around 50 grams of fat.

I've also taken photos and will continue to do so every month, so I can see visible changes, I'll also chart my measurements monthly too and my weight weekly.

I really need to go to the gym and could go to the one I work at, but too embarrassed, so I've been doing lots of low weights with high repetitions at home, doing compound routines (working more than one muscle group at a time) and working at quite a quick speed, to incorporate some cardio.

How is everyone else doing?

CaptainUnderpants · 02/11/2009 08:34

Hi,

Can I join please ? .

Have put on about 2 stone since I stopped running etc about 3 yrs ago, really need to lose 3 stone .

I am 5'7 and weigh about 13.5 stone. I hate going on scales at the moment but am going to join WW this week.

I am fed up of snide comments from my DH about my weight (not that he is Mr Slim ! )and it is making me quite unhappy and at momentand I now avoid social engagements because I can't wear nice clothes any more.

My downfall is chocolate and too big portions , also exercise has fallen by the way side.

I know what I need to do to get weight off but I have alot of self imgae issues at the moment aswell.

Might weight myslef tomorrow morning and update you on weight.

Thanks

smileyboy · 02/11/2009 09:06

CaptainUnderpants, none of my business I know but your dh really shouldn't be saying things about your weight, not if it upsets. Have you told him that it's really not supportive and makes you feel shit? No wonder you have self image issues, he probably means it harmlessly but I know how little comments can really hurt.

I have been keeping my daily calories under 1400 and although I am not feeling 'hungy' exactly, I do still want to eat cheese and chocolate all the bloody time. I am really food addicted and just constantly thinking about junk food. What's wrong with me?! What if I always feel like I am depriving myself?! I hate obsessing over food. I wish I could just want to eat when I am hungry but I have spent years and years of just binging and eating just for the sake of it I think it will take a while to reprogramme my mentality towards food. It's not even comfort eating or anything like that, it's just constant eating! I eat when I am happy, sad, bored, tired, all the time, no wonder I weigh over 13 stone.

Must keep motivated, going on a bike ride today!

CaptainUnderpants · 02/11/2009 09:11

I have told him that its upsets me but he seems to go sheepish for a week or so then in an argument he'll throw it up again.

when I announced I was joined WW his reply was 'again ! how much is it going to cost ?' get support there .

I joined WW back in 2003 and lost nealry 2 stone then in about 2007 tried agin but it was ane evening meeting as I was working during dya and guess what, gave up goign to meetimgs as couldn't rely in dh being home !

I know that isn't an excuse for not losing weight but if you feel down about yourself then having someonme around who is not supportive doesn't help either .

smileyboy · 02/11/2009 09:58

That must be very hard Captain, I can't believe that's what he said about you joining weight watchers! My dh is very supportive on me doing excercise and eating healthily, almost too supportive though which actually has the oposite effect and makes me think he must want me to lose the weight because he thinks I am unattractive. They can't really win can they??!

I would be very offended by what your dh says though, especially if he uses it in an argument cos that's not even harmless fun, he knows what he is saying will hurt you and that's not nice at all. It's so hard to be motivated anyway but when someone makes you feel rubbish is 100 times harder.

I am determined though.

CaptainUnderpants · 02/11/2009 10:08

I am determined this time , also determined to get my running back .Perhaps not the distance I was doing before but get up to 3 miles and and do that a few times a week.

I look forward to the support on here 'cause I aint going to get it at home !

sweetboysmum · 02/11/2009 10:44

CaptainUnderpants - shame on your DH for his lack of support. If my dh made snide comments to me I would find it hard. It's not like he's been making it easy for you to go to WW in the past either. YOu said he isn't exactly a picture of slimmness himself. You show him then! When you're out running and svelte and he's the same size you can maybe feel a bit smug!

Smilesboy it's nice to have a supportive husband but I see what you mean by they can't win. My dh says nothing about my weight, nothing at all. When I get a hair cut he'll often not notice. I sometimes wonder if he looks at me at all Well, last week he did say he'd noticed I'd lost a bit but only because I had told him I'd lost over a stone and was fishing for some recognition. He's on the chubby side himself and perhaps avoiding the whole weight issue? He got an Indian takeaway last night with. I looked at the Pakora box, smelled it and then did it again. Was sooo tempted but then just put it away and had my slimfast. It was hard but I felt good about it later.

Did the usual weighing thins morning and instead of being 4lbs up on a Monday morning i was 12st 11 1/4 so have lost weight from Friday. Yippee!

Monadami I'm very impressed with your motivation and attention to detail. The photos are a great idea. I find
www.my-calorie-counter.com/ really handy for keeping a diary or food and activity levels.

FaintlyAmusedEyebrows - I've heard pilates is great for toning. Can i ask, do you know the moves yourself or do you use a DVD? I've never done pilates and I don't have any time to go to the gym (dh gets home at around 9.30pm 6 nights a week) but i could do it once the lo is in bed. Could you point me in the right direction if you use a dvd?

Thanks!
