Does anyone want to start WeightWatchers with me?

I hate jumping into new threads ... everyone has a head start and they aren't all excitable about it like new people.

I lost 2.5 stone a couple of years ago, using WeightWatchers, so I know it works. Unfortunately in the last 6 months, a stone of it has crept back on and I'm really NOT prepared to be fat again. I weighed myself today, and am (gosh) 13st 1lb.

My points allowance is 20, my first goal is 12 stone 8 lb - who's with me!?

Can I add myself in please? Signed up to WW (AGAIN) last Thursday weighing in at 13 stones 5. I lost over 30 pounds in 2003 and got down to 9 stone 12 but then fell pregnant with my first child!! Since then I have had another child and have never got back to anything under 11 and a half stone. Have had half-arsed attempts at joining in the intervening years (about 5 times [blush) but never got past a loss of 12 pounds before quitting. Started again last year for about 7 weeks and lost a stone but have built it back up again and am now the heaviest I have ever been (I'm 5ft 4 btw.)

Feel like that I have done quite well this past week - feel hungry though but I think that's because prior to this I have been gorging myself with carbs and my stomach is now protesting at all this salad I'm eating!

Maybe if I hook up with all you lot it will keep me on the straight and narrow

Ooh Mithered, I tried those creamy mushrooms on toast the other day and was really impressed. Didn't do the chopped chives bit but still good. Did add some spinach in but probably won't the next time because it made it a bit mushy but it was still good. I love it when you try a recipe and think it won't be any good and you are pleasantly surprised!

Didn't have it for breakfast though, had it for lunch. Can't imagine faffing around with that on a weekday morning

Well done Stewie - great weightloss!

Honie - well done also - every little half adds up - it can be very easy to put one one!

I have been and weighed in - lost zero this week - not too bothered as I have been too snacky and not written everything down. I also have a rotten stinking cold, so that isnt helping!

Better be good next week!

Put them up in the highest cupboard and hopefully you will forget about them! Or give them to your other half (and / or kiddies) if you have them! I made a similar mistake once with bananas - I ended up with 5 bags of bananas - so I took them into work for the vultures lovely guys to eat!

I am starving myself - 18 points doesn't go very far!

My problem is stopping myself nibbling bits as I prepare meals. You can't even work out how many points are in a mouthful of something.

ajamore · 24/09/2009 10:37

Off to my first weigh-in since starting today. Feel as if I have lost - we'll see. I always lose quite a bit in the first 2 weeks because i have obviously significantly reduced my intake even though I usually average out to about 25 points a day. I save up being strictly 20 points a day for when I am further along and the weight loss slows down.

The key for me has always been portion control - I weigh everything if I can. I was eating a tortilla/flat bread thing the other day with boiled egg, cream cheese and spinach and remembered that the last time I had tortillas with refried beans/peppers etc. I ate THREE !! That's the behaviour WW knocks out of me!!

Yes, 0 point soup is my friend!

andirobobo · 24/09/2009 13:22

I have just had some Tomat & Basil soup from Morrisons and it was fab and only 1 point (I think) per serving. Not filling but warm and comforting! Now tucking onto a Mango & Passionfruit dessert for 1.5 points! I like to save my points for the evening! But then I do get 20 of them!!!

Mithered · 24/09/2009 15:11

How did you get on ajamore?

I have been weighed today and PUT ON 1lb

I am gutted as I have been so strict this weeka and been running too.

My leader was really nice and said that I should measure myself as will probably be losing inches and muscles retain water if exercising a lot.

Still gutted though. Made myself no point soup - the butternut squash and red pepper one.

bigTillyMint · 24/09/2009 15:16

Oh Mithered But the butternut squash and red pepper soup is lush!

Maybe the water retention after exercise is the reason my weight loss is going so slowly? I thought it might be because muscle weighs more than fat?

ajamore · 24/09/2009 16:38

Very happy because I lost 5 pounds Determined to keep at it this time. I'd like to lose at least 2 pounds next week so I get my first silver seven. My danger period is after that initial loss when it starts coming off in pounds and half pounds (or goes on again or stays the same) - that's when I lose the faith. But I think that's when it really counts when you are gradually losing week after week - not so spectacular but more sustainable!

Mithered, don't lose heart! You are running which is more than I'm doing and your body does strange things when you start exercising. But you've got to know that whilst the scales aren't showing it THIS week, you are laying the foundations for proper, sustained weight loss. Good luck for next week!

Where's the recipe for Butternut squash and Red Pepper soup BTW?

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 24/09/2009 16:57

Hello everyone.

Lost 2.5 this week so 8.5 in total.

Those of you on 18 points, what are you eating as I struggle to get there which bodes well. Also a big tip get a pedometer, it is amazing how far you do walk in an average day and I regularly gain between 1 and 2 points.

Tescos Velvet crunch crisps are only 1 point and are very nice.

bigTillyMint · 24/09/2009 17:03

Butternut Squash and Red Pepper Soup
Peel and chop 1 small butternut squash, one onion and chop a red pepper. Put all in a pan with 2 pints hot veggie stick and simmer for about half an hour, then puree. Add freshly ground black pepper / chopped parsley.

Very easy and very yummy!

Five, do you mean you struggle to eat 18 points? What are you eating?!

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 24/09/2009 17:27

yes

Today I have had

Beans on white toast, 3.5pts (usually have granary so it is 4)
WW peanut bar 1.5
2 ryvitas 1
wafer thin ham .5
1tbsp low fat Philly cheese 1
cherry tomatoes 0
velevt crunch crisps 1
apple .5
bread and low fat spread 2
prawn pea and tomato curry 3.5
rice 3

grand total of 17.5 points out of a total of 25 plus I have gained 1.5 exercise points from walking round house and walking the dog.

so fingers crossed for tomorrow and first weigh in

Mithered · 24/09/2009 19:36

Well done everyone on weight loss. Am feeling bit more positive now I have had time to think. Was just so pissed off before!

On the positive side my butternut squash and red pepper soup was yum and am feeling very full.

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 24/09/2009 19:37

And plenty of water

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 24/09/2009 20:51

This was delicious, I halved the ingredients and made a huge amount for DH and me. Served with rice it has a total WW point score of 6.5.

Prawn, pea and tomato curry

Serves 4, 3 of 5 a day

1tbsp vegetable oil
2 onions halved each cut into 6 wedges
large knob of ginger chopped
6 garlic cloves roughly chopped
3 tbsp curry ( I used tikka masala paste)
400g shelled raw prawns
250g frozen peas
small bunch of coriander

Heat the oil in the frying pan, then fry the onions over a medium heat until soft and beginning to brown. Meanwhile reserve 8 of the tomato wedges then whizz the remainder in a food processor with the ginger and garlic.

Add the curry paste to the pan for 30secs. Stir through the tomato mix and remaining tomato wedges, then bubble over a high heat for 5 mins stirring so the sauce doesn't catch. Mix in the prawns and peas simmer until the prawns are cooked through. Scatter with coriander and serve with rice.

236 kcals
sat fat 1g

bigTillyMint · 25/09/2009 11:50

Five, I have to agree, that sounds like a reasonable amount of food, though I would probably add more salad / veg as I like lots on my plate!

I will give the prawn curry a try - it sounds good!

Bigboots · 25/09/2009 12:01

Hi all - can I join in? Got to my goal in the summer - celebrated with a chinese and have never quite got back on the wagon . Now almost a stone over my goal weight and too ashamed to go back to my meeting at the mo...feeling quite motivated by this thread tho, could be just what I need!
