Hope you all had a good weekend!

I had a pretty good one, went to a childrens birthday party on Saturday and didn't pick at any of the food. Instead I waited until we got home and had a nice ham and salad sandwich on wholemeal bread. Didn't go anywhere yesterday so we stayed in the garden all day with the children in the paddling pool and enjoyed the sun. Another fairly good day foodwise

I have lost 3lb this week, which I am pretty pleased with. Going to try some more walking this week as I can't do any of my fitness dvd's until our living room is back to normal (having the walls re-plastered/wallpapered/painted and new floors put down). At the moment it looks like a building site!

Well done LTR, that's a great loss

LovingTheRain · 11/05/2009 09:24

Welldone to you too CM

I lost 2lb which I'm quite happy with, I was hoping for more but seeing as I've only done the exercise video once I guess its not bad

How far do you have to walk to start burning calories?

PieceNharmoknee · 11/05/2009 09:28

Well done ladies, I'm very impressed with your 3lbs

LovingTheRain · 11/05/2009 09:47

Welldone piece.

Found this link online:

Calories and Weight
A pound of fat equals 3500 calories. To lose 1 pound a week you will need to expend 3500 more calories than you eat that week, whether through increased activity or decreased eating or both. Losing 1-2 pounds of fat a week is a sensible goal, and so you will want to use the combination of increased activity and eating less that will total 3500 calories for 7 days.

How You Burn Calories
Your weight x distance = energy used walking. Time does not matter as much as distance. If you speed up to walking a mile in 13 minutes or less, you will be burning more calories per mile. But for most beginning walkers, it is best to increase the distance before working on speed. A simple rule of thumb is 100 calories per mile for a 180 pound person.

Note About the Calories Chart
You burn more calories per mile at very low speeds because you are basically stopping and starting with each step and your momentum isn't helping to carry you along. Meanwhile, at very high walking speeds you are using more muscle groups with arm motion and with a racewalking stride. Those extra muscles burn up extra calories with each step. Running may burn more calories per mile as there is an up and down motion lifting your weight off the ground as well as moving it forward. There's a few calculator things on there too

Thank you for searching for that LTR

On the calculators, do you have to enter your weight in lbs or kg?

LovingTheRain · 11/05/2009 10:01

Hi all,

Been busy here so not much dieting going n since Thursday have somehow managed to put on 3lbs ! Although can't say I am surprised TBH. But back on track today and enough of the negativity just a few extra pounds to add to my loss when I am a skinny minnie

Have just had a nice bowl of rice crispies and a glass of fruit juice, for once I actually took my time with it so feel fuller than if I scoffed it down!!!

How has everyone else's diet been? When are we having our first weigh in? Next week... then I might actually lose something LOL.

LovingTheRain · 12/05/2009 09:12

Welcome skihorse

No worries mamadiva, you are back on track now and that's the main thing Welldone on the brekkie, i have had a banana and an actimel. Having a bruch today instead of a proper brekkie or lunch so will eat about 10.30am and then not again till i have a snack.

What is everyone up to today? I am planning on a big clean, should burn some calories.

OP posts:
mamadiva · 12/05/2009 09:19

Hello, I am going to get some cleaning done today too was meant top be going to a netmums meet but can't be bothered as DS is terrified of soft play areas when they are full so would just have him screaming at me!

Have loads to do but forgot to buy cleaning stuff last night will just do what I can with multi surface and washing up liquid LOL. Done a big shop last night and kept having to steer myself away from the crisps and caramel shortbread

So how are you getting on with things LTR?

LovingTheRain · 12/05/2009 10:15

Doing quite well i think. Am still managing to resist the sugary snacks which is a big thing for me as usually it's the first thing i reach for! Can't say i haven't missed it though, had to eat 3 bananas yesterday to get my fix!

Have started using foodfocus.co.uk to log my calories and it's fantastic. Keeps a track of everything for me which is great as i was using paper before.

Wow skihorse, respect! That's a huge amount you've amnaged to lose. How did you do it?

Happypetal · 13/05/2009 21:07

Hi chaps! How're you all doing? Hooray hooray - I've lost another pound this week - not great shakes I know - but better off than on!

slug · 14/05/2009 10:09

I've decided not to make an issue of the weight thing, I'm more interested in my size.

So my goal, ladies, is to go fom my current size 22 to a size 14.

Wish me luck

LovingTheRain · 14/05/2009 12:05

Welldone Happy Petal

and good luck slug, you'll do fine and you have all of us to support you

Hi everyone. do you mind if i join you??? I joined ww last sept weighing 18st 2lb and that wasn't my heaviest. God only knows how much i weighed a few years ago. Thankfully i got my weight down to 14st 10lb and stopped going in march. Since then i've got myself depressed again and my weight has slowly gone back up to 15st 11. I'm really desperate to get myself slim but i'm struggeling to do it on my own I'm booked in to see the nurse for a weigh in once a week so do you mind if i chat with you guys in the mean time

LovingTheRain · 14/05/2009 14:44

Welcome northernmonkey. New people are always welcome, and i love chatting so feel free to post on here anytime!

Welldone on loosing all that weight with WW.Don't worry if you've put some back on, you're aware of it and doing something about it which is the main thing

I know what you mean about struggling on your own, that's why i love chatting on MN.

Booking in with the nurse sounds like a good idea, not sure if my surgery does anything like that but would be good if they did

Sorry for the ramblings, welcome

Cripes! Equally chubby workmate and I did a pilates class today. We work in a university, so the pool and gym is full of skinny students in the prime of life [sigh]. There was that point, where we were doing some excruiaitng abdominal crunch, and the instructor was badgering me when I did shout "I've had children you know!!"

Will report on the state of my muscles tomorrow.

LovingTheRain · 14/05/2009 17:41

OOo pilates, what things did you have to do?

I'd have done the same slug! (Have done in the past!!) I remember one time i blamed it on my 'baby belly'. Then i was asked when i'd had the baby. It had been 4 years before!
