Ta da!!!

Here it is, Ladies. It feels safer in one little spot!!

I'm not brave enough to put my vitals up yet, will wait for a few new posters to come along and throw me words of encouragement!

kettlechip - back to you.....

KPT I'm sorry

Marks & Sparks do mini choc meringue nests and I recall from my SW days that they were rather low cal.

The breakfast with the mushroom sounds lovely, going to try that for lunch at the weekend with DH as it's "proper food" ;)

Is anyone having problems working it out when they make things such as casseroles/stews etc themselves? I'm afraid of mucking that up so have been sticking with premade things for now that tell you on the packet exactly what calorie make-up is. Any tips please?

LastOrders · 28/04/2009 21:27

I've not done a home made meal all week but I think adding it all bit by bit is the only thing you can do.

I gat confused on the gram/mg bit... When I enter the amount I had, si=olid is obviously gram, but how do I convert it into mg? Or is it just the same.

Its mightly confusing just to have a brew !

And as an after thought - is anyone using any aids, like Adios?

I have some in the cupboard that I may hook out...

OP posts:
LastOrders · 28/04/2009 21:28

Thats meant to say - solid is obviously grams

Thank you, she was 93 so we had her in our lives for a long time and we can take comfort from the fact that she was able to live independently in her own home until she died which was what she wanted. Just not looking forward to the funeral very much.

LastOrders · 29/04/2009 00:05

Right-o. I think I'm just about to admit how thick I REALLY am.

I just popped onto FF to input some exercise and I had a look at my Profile. It says this -

Target cals/day 1943
Cals burnt/day 2692

Now, I'm guessing I've not been losing weight as I'm not doing it properly, so could someone explain - My target cals a day is 1943. Does the Cals burnt/day mean that I have to burn 2692 cals a day in order to lose weight?

I'm getting a bit confused with all the numbers.

And there is noooooooo way I'd be able to burn 2692 cals a day So what does that number mean?

OP posts:
Cocobear · 29/04/2009 01:38

So sorry KPT. Hope you're okay.

At the end of Week 1 I'm down 2 pounds.Which is exactly on target so I'm pleased.

Last Orders - I'm no expert, but here's my understanding... 2,692 are the number of calories your body burns in a day. It's your 'baseline' calorie burn, regardless of any exercise you do.

To lose weight, you need to take in fewer calories than your baseline. So your target is 1,943. You can meet that either by eating no more than 1,943 calories per day, or you can, say, eat 2,143 calories and burn off the extra 200 at the gym.

At least that's what I've been working to, so I hope that's more or less right!!

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 29/04/2009 08:21

That's how I understood it cocobear yes. Although am only 3 days in so feel free to disregard that

kingprawntikka · 29/04/2009 08:37

That's what I am doing too, so we can't all be wrong !
Thanks Coco, I'm doing ok.

Lucifera · 29/04/2009 08:48

KPT, very sporry about your grandmother. Hope funeral is a good one IYSWIM.

I understood the same about calories used.

Weight - do you weigh in dressed in "ordinary indoor clothes" which I believe is how BMI estimates are based, or (like me) stark naked first thing in the morning having removed spectacles ....

kingprawntikka · 29/04/2009 08:52

Thank you , not sure when it will be yet with the bank holiday and everything. Should find out today.
I take everything off to get weighed, its the only chance I have of it looking like I weigh a bit less!!

LastOrders · 29/04/2009 09:44

I take everything off, have a wee and then jump on scales, first thing on a Saturday morning! That wee may make all the difference

And always put the scales on a hard floor, not carpet.

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 29/04/2009 09:56

Lucifera I weigh first thing as soon as had a pee or I would forget. Monday will be my WI day. According to my dashboard though I should have lost 0.5lb by now (day 3)

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 29/04/2009 11:03

Lost 2lb in my first week. Hooray!
Only 35 to go!

mimsum · 29/04/2009 15:04

does anyone have any idea what yoga or pilates would equate to in the exercise log? there are things there I've never even heard of, but no yoga [puzzled]

reducedfatkettlechip · 29/04/2009 15:21

I had that with something else (trampolining, I think it was - I'd bounced for 20 mins on the dc's trampoline and wanted it declared!!) - what I did was look up the calorie burn on another website by googling it, and then found something very similar to enter on FF. There should be an option to add your own, like with food.

Ran 3 miles today. It was too much for my poor old trainers and they fell apart, leaving me hobbling round Tesco with a red, sweaty face and one heel flapping loose. Attractive, I'm sure you'll agree .

Am about to order these -
www.prodirectrunning.com/Products/Nike-Air-Zoom-Vomero-3-White-Silver-Pink-Running-Shoes.aspxrainers
They will apparently "talk" to my ipod and let me know how well I'm doing. All this technology is a bit much for me. I've found a top which is also Nike enabled, whatever that might mean..

Furball · 29/04/2009 18:46

mimsum - nicked from the web

There are also different levels of Pilates that cause different caloric expenditures. These are beginner, intermediate and advanced. The important thing to remember is the different caloric expenditures from different sized people.
The following example is based on an average 165 pound person. During an advanced workout, they can expect to burn 480 calories per hour. During an intermediate workout, they can expect to burn 390 calories per hour. During a beginner workout, they can expect to burn 270 calories per hour. This all equivocates to about 8, 6.5 and 4.5 calories per minute respectively

LastOrders · 29/04/2009 21:15

I had a Crunchie today - and it was bloody lush!

OP posts:
TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 29/04/2009 22:27

I had a teeenytiny small hamburger in Burger King today - 324 calories

ended the day 1 calorie over

LastOrders · 29/04/2009 22:52

Blimey - thats good! Just 1 cal over

I've told a few fibs on my food log today!

But I've been at work all day doing a promotion change, and unfortunately the exercise log doesn't have "9 hours on feet walking round a shop changing tickets and shifting things" option!

But I'm guessing I've burnt a fair few cals so it should all even up!

Dreading this weekend. Away visiting family How am I going to log anything?! And I can hardly position my scales in the kitchen and demand they weigh everything before delivering it to me for consumption!

All my good work undone in 48 hours - Aaaagggghhhhh

hi there

having a really hungry day. I've been staying up really late til 3 am and the getting up at 8 with dd and no afternoon kip so i think that's why. Haven't done too badly though although it is hard to keep track sometimes if you have a little nibble here and there. i've generally tried not to do that as i am usually very much all or nothing.still managing to get up to gym everyday as well.

reducedfatkettlechip those trainers soon wicked. let us know how you get on with them. I must say I only have a humble pair of tesco trainers. I do look rather scraggy at the gym and I wonder if I dressed myself up a bit better i might feel abit smarter while i'm on the old xtrainer.

ducdo yes congrats on your weightloss too. that's great. how's it going at the mo?

ladyglencora: well done to you on your wloss this week.

last orders: it is tricky when you go away i think. do you want to explain to them what you are doing? would they join in? support you with it? i am also rather worried about going on holiday in a couple of weeks time as in the past i've always found it quite hard to stick to low cals when away.

i think my dh is going to try and get us internet access while we are away so i can still try and get on ff and mumsnet of course!

trying to lose as much as i can before i go so perhaps it won't matter too much if i expand my cals intake a little .

i always weigh first thing in morning, naked after a wee as well. I agree that the wee could make all the difference. unfortunately we have a tiled floor which is slightly uneven so i tend to get slightly different readings depending on where i place the scales.

goodluck for tomorrow.

leothelioness · 30/04/2009 05:43

I had my forst weigh in this morning after 1 week and I have lost 3lbs my target was 1.5lbs so I am really happy. I have bee making an effort to go swimming every day for the past 3 days so that might have made a difference. I weigh first thing in the morning as well otherwise I would forget.

leothelioness · 30/04/2009 05:47

forst- first

Sorry about you nan KPT.

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 30/04/2009 08:17

Good morning all

Just had my mega breakfast of 60g rice krispies with 2 tsp sugar and 125ml semi skimmed milk (baby bottles are great for meausring your milk out) I think I need bigger breakfast bowls, they kept escaping lol

Planning on having low fat Campbell's soup for lunch and I need to look at how bad supernoodles are as I am having a craving , will team them with loads of salad and some quorn sausages to minimise the effects

kingprawntikka · 30/04/2009 08:36

Thank you Leo, everyone's kind thoughts have been much appreciated.
I thought I had been quite good at sticking to my calorie allowance but 5 days in and I've only lost half a pound. Maybe I need to do more exercise and not eat the extra calorie allowance you then get?

lilianfox · 30/04/2009 10:26

Goodmorning

well done kpt and leo on your weightloss this week.

Sorry about your nan Kpt.

I've been up most of night with my poor dd who has been sick and so i don't think i'm going to be able to get to gym today. so it's more important for me to stick to my cal goal as i wont be able to burn it off later. it's be first day i haven't been to gym unless she improves.

kpt actually that's what i've been doing on some days. if i'm not feeling that hungry i won't use up my full allowance and the go to gym as well etc. on those days i do seem to lose weight. however i don't do it everyday and if i'm hungry i eat in my allowance with exercise etc 1/2 pound is still good and it all adds up towards final goal some weeks you may lose more than others.
