Ta da!!!

I'm not brave enough to put my vitals up yet, will wait for a few new posters to come along and throw me words of encouragement!

How many calories over are you TOMPD? I had one day last week where I literally ate double what I'm meant to. DP (a chef, no less) made me a lovely healthy looking SALAD that had lots of calorie laden goodies in it. I was happily munching away going 'this is great, it doesn't even feel like eating healthily' - that was because it clearly wasn't!!!

FlappytheBat · 12/05/2009 19:30

Have just signed up for Food Focus - the site looks great and I'm hoping it will work!

Going to get the wii fit out later too, need to lose weight to surprise dh when he gets back home at the end of the year

pottycock · 12/05/2009 19:33

It's a fantastic site, although I am still reeling from the revelation that I have a very carby, yellow, stodgy diet!! I was under the misapprehension I was a healthy eater before I started logging it all!

Welcome Flappy

FlappytheBat · 12/05/2009 19:40

thank you pottycock, have to admit that I have had a very yellow day too, will try harder tomorrow!

LastOrders · 12/05/2009 21:18

Hello Flappy!

If you do FF, do this thread too!

The encouragement we give eachother is half the battle won

TOMPD - your day sounds like my day yesterday!! But I've redeemed myself today. I think.

Don't tell the others but I found some cut price Easter eggs in the local greengrocers today. They were only 29p!!
Of course, I had to buy a couple, for DS I mean, but I've just scoffed half

But I'm back to logging on FF so all good. I think...

I had never run (except for a bus!) in my life until a month ago. Honestly! I started with fast walking and then jogged for a few minutes and walked again, and then built up for a couple of weeks until now I can run about 4 miles without stopping.

It really doesn't take long to build up stamina once you start training. And it's much faster results than aerobics so that's all good with me

LastOrders · 12/05/2009 21:56

kettle - The way you say you jog and all the gadgets you have I thought you had been running for a good few years!!

There is hope for me! Just need to invest in some jog bottoms now!

My trainers should be here by tomorrow (according to Amazon) but I feel I'm going to have a dispute on my hands as they aren't here yet despite an email last wednesday saying they've been dispatched

I'm going to start when DS is at school, pounding the pavements!

Have even rediscovered my old (expensive) roller boots that were gathering dust

Kettle - I'll send a link of the trainers I've ordered, they aren't great as I'm skint . Can you tell me if they're good for a beginner?

These are the cheap bad boys!!

I hope they're ok for bum jiggling walking!

Hello, I've just joined up to the Food Focus site and would like to join you if you'll have me!

I did a food diary on MN a few weeks ago (kingprawn was there with me for a while!) and found it informative, but since that lapsed I've not made any progress on healthying up my diet.

My main problem (apart from the random binges and general overeating!) is that I tend to eat what I'm making for DS, so it's all full fat milk, cheese, butter etc. and I don't want to make totally different meals for us. DH eats what I make him and stays slim regardless We haven't been eating enough veg and fruit so I want to work on that too.

Here's my stats :-

Start weight
18st 6lb / 117.0kg
Current weight
18st 6lb / 117.0kg
Goal weight
10st 2lb / 64.4kg
Target loss/wk
2lb (0.9kg)
Target date
21 June 10

Target cals/day
1671
Cals burnt/day
2671

Current BMI
42
BMI at goal
23.1

I've got a lot more to lose than any of you I see, and it will take a loooong time, but shall be rewarding myself for every stone I lose.

lilianfox · 12/05/2009 23:35

Hi

never mind tompd's you know i had one of those the other day. sometimes it just gives you a bit of a kick start and some renewed motivation. it's a pain in the arse though i know specially when you've resisted so many times. But we are only human and it's tough. I think all good work you've done you won't notice it on the scales.

welcome flappythebat come on in an revel in the beautiful light of our ff appreciation society. we have all been losing loads!

reducedfatkettlechip when you say that you get results or see them more quickly what do you mean? I am tempted by this running...it's something I could do when I am away on holiday if there's not a gym around etc I'd can imagine that I could work up to it as you describe. Only I did that once on the treadmill at the gym and I ended up being able to run for 50 mins. However, on the actual road it was so difficult I had a bit of a shock.

went to gym this eve for about 40 mins. x trainer my favourite at the mo. I've missed going and recently I've been a little complacement and started to pick a little bit here and there . Am getting anxious about how to keep this up while I am away. I know that I am going to be tempted...but I don't want to gain all i've lost. Maybe that's good enough. Equally i don't know if anyone feels the same but although i've lost some weight I really don't feel that different size wize at the mo. jeans seem to be just as tight?

lilianfox · 12/05/2009 23:38

weclome wastingmyeducation good luck. the ff really is a good thing in my opinion x

lilianfox · 12/05/2009 23:51

hi

was just having a look at another thread and i noticed kettlechip you mentioned that maybe losing about a stone = a dress size. I think maybe then that's true for me as perhaps I haven't taken off quite that much yet and sometimes those extra few pounds make all the difference. Maybe I'll have a few days of jacket pots and salad!

Lastorders those easter eggs sound sooo yummy but i daren't even go there mentally as i also have a tendency to be all or nothing. although strangely i do derive some pleasure from buying chocolate for my dp who doesn't seem to suffer from weight gain although he is quite sporty

greenvalley · 13/05/2009 00:16

Is anyone worried about the terms and conditions of food focus- that they can start charging for use of their service without prior notice and also only THEY can terminate the agreement between them and you?Now I am worrying as I found out I couldnt "unsuscribe" from their site.Am I bening paranoid?

ReligiousBiscuit · 13/05/2009 08:13

i think you are being a little paranoid. they can't actually charge you until you agree to pay.

sadly, i have lost nothing this week! but i did have a v. jolly weekend away with friend so consoling myself with that fact.

well done to all the losers!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 13/05/2009 09:21

Wll they don't have my bank details or credit card details so I don't see how they can charge me without my agreement. I guess the site may stop being free in a while and then you'll have the choice whether to carry on and pay or whetehr to stop using it.

conkeyhead · 13/05/2009 11:08

OOh can I join you? I'm trying to lose for my wedding in two months and honeymoon in caribbean (do have kids, just like to do things other way round! )

Got recommended to join Food Focus from another thread I started and then to join you on here.

Have lost nearly 2 stone in last year with exercise but it's stopped and when I tried on my dress, cried with what size it was!! So although it's a little late, am trying a last ditch - lose a stone before the wedding and more importantly so I can wear something other than a large sheet on the beach of our holiday!! (DP and 2 kids all V skinny!)

I'm allowed 1547 cals a day which is more than I've been eating for the last week or so, so feeling alright. But I do a big walk to school twice a day with buggy and up hills so it's giving me even more calories?? (1750)

Am I allowed to save them up and drink lots of wine on friday???? (and saturday!?)

conkeyhead · 13/05/2009 11:14

ooh and Kettle, your running inspires me. I can do 30mins round my rug (!) with my Wii Fit so convinced I was actually Davina - went for a proper run outside and nearly had a bloody heart attack. Within 3 mins thought I was going to expire on the side of the road, face was purple, heart seemed to be trying to escape out of my chest. Managed 10mins round a local lake, but nearly - literally - killed me!!!

Maybe I ought to try a more methodical approach like yours.......

ducdo · 13/05/2009 12:31

Welcome to all the newcomers.

With the running they key is starting a little at a time say 5 mins warm up, 1 min running, 1 min walking, 2 min running, 1 min walking and so on.

Take is slowly and increase the running time gradually and you will be surprised at how it does get easier over time. I love going out for a run now, even though my face is purple and my DD hates me returning all sweaty but I feel great and its worth it.

Plus it's free!

I'm out to Pizza Express tonight so will stick with a salad, lots of wine and maybe a sneaky pudding .. then running tomorrow night to get rid of the extra cals!

lulu41 · 13/05/2009 13:23

glad I have found this thread - I started with Food Focus about 3 weeks ago - although I kind of fell of the diet truck about a week ago also - as its now mid week think I will track but probably not start being good until Monday - its my mindset !!!

I think I am allowed about 1,400 per day which seems to soon go - I do exercise but then if I eat a bit extra because I am hungry I dont seem to lose any weight !!!

Why did I get this big in the first place need to lose close to 3 stone

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 13/05/2009 13:32

Feeling much better about it all today and back on track Had slightly less cereal for breakfast after nutrition training course last night and her banging on about portion sizes normally have 60g cereal but today had 50 then tmrw will have 40 and see if I manage still, rather have a bigger brekkie than smaller and have to grab things to eat to last till lunch.

I started jogging a bit last year and did it by lampposts walk one, jog one, walk two, jog two etc rather enjoyed it once I got a decent sports bra! I am determined to get back to it as it's free, I kind of like it ( pelvic floor doesn't though )

Welcome to all the newcomers! Most of us seem to weigh in on a Monday so please join in.

DuffyFluckling · 13/05/2009 14:01

Hello all.

I've been giving Food Focus a whirl and I have a teething question:

My target exercise per day is 10 minutes.

Yesterday I did 40 minutes.
Today I have done 10 minutes.

So, why is my average a mean red 7 minutes?

Have I done something wrong?

And I've been meaning to introduce myself on this thread. Hello!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 13/05/2009 16:02

How many days have you been signed up with FF, Duffy? If you've had a few days where you haven't exercised would that be it?

ReligiousBiscuit · 13/05/2009 16:21

DF the mean will be calculated over 7 days so 50/7=7

DuffyFluckling · 13/05/2009 17:24

Ahh, am only on day 2. That explains it. Thank you.

LastOrders · 13/05/2009 18:12

Agh!!!

I had a vanilla custard crown pastry earlier - what's the matter with me????

But, it was my redundancy meeting today so it was in celebratory commiseration of leaving my beloved wine shop

May lose weight now I don't have to down taste and test so much wine

Hello to all the newbies, hope you all lose what you need to.

Kettle - will you be ditching us for the big wide world of the super skinnys and their hot panted bums once you get to target?!
