Food diary - care to join me?

wastingmyeducation · 22/03/2009 16:16

In the past I've done various diets, tried all sorts really, but I haven't stuck with anything for more than a couple of weeks in a long time.

I am bored of diets!

I am going to keep a food diary here. Hopefully it will help me see where I am going wrong, and by holding up a mirror to my eating habits, publicly, I will start to eat less/better.

I will be starting tomorrow, but thought I'd give you a heads up if you'd like to join me.

Thanks - I have learn't something new today!! I honestly did think it was.
It is certainly a lot lighter digestive wise than wheat.

I will try the pancakes!

Brown rice further alternatives.

wastingmyeducation · 23/03/2009 14:07

Actually Mark, that is my goal right now.

You come across as very patronising, and criticised my lunch, without actually knowing for instance what I ate for lunch yesterday. That was a good lunch for me.
I usually feel crap enough my diet without you putting down.
You may know nutrition, but a little brush-up on psychology might improve your training technique.

FO - that's a very good point re: drinking enough water! I've only had two coffees today.

Can I join in please ?

Need to lose around 2 stone.

Starting weight of 11st 6lbs

Breakfast was an apple and I banana

Lunch was a low cal cup a soup, ham and rocket sandwich on wholemeal bread and a muller light yoghurt.

Not bad for me.

Also trying to drink loads of water.

Good luck everyone and a great thread

kingprawntikka · 23/03/2009 14:26

Maggs- "not bad for me"- I think it sounds like you have done brilliantly today!!

wastingmyeducation · 23/03/2009 14:39

Had a pint of water, and feel much better!

OP posts:
MarkPT · 23/03/2009 14:51

Fine - however I was giving nutrition advice, so I can only give advice on what is written down.
If no-body gives alternatives or corrects bad consumption, how are you going to improve?
Is this just a back patting thread?
I'm not here to knock anyone, just trying to give help.

wastingmyeducation · 23/03/2009 15:04

My intention was a very gentle thread.
And as I said, I do know what I'm 'supposed' to eat. I'll improve slowly, when I'm ready.

To write down what I eat every day is a SMART goal, and when I've got a little more confidence I'll be able to add to that with weight loss or fitness goals.

As you say, you can only give advice based on what is written down, so you should be extra careful.

"Is this just a back patting thread?"

It looks like a thread about keeping a food diary to me. You sound very pushy and a bit rude, tbh, MarkPT, even if you had the best intentions.

Wastingmyeducation - I think keeping a diary is a great start. I've found the WW tracker ncredibly helpful at keeping an eye on my intake. You forget about all the little bits otherwise and they add up!

FrannyandZooey · 23/03/2009 15:14

mark do you have a small business ad with MN?

MarkPT · 23/03/2009 15:24

OK fine. My job is to get people results, and so I was just using that route to try and help and give constructive feedback about what you are eating. If that isn't what you want I wont contribute to this thread?

Franny - wouldn't know what or where they are. I'm not on here to promote my business, just offer help and knowledge where I can. My PT business is full and can't take anymore on, so I'm not on here for business.

kingprawntikka · 23/03/2009 15:52

3.45 Handful of nuts and a small piece of cheese. Hoping that will keep me from picking until dinner.

wastingmyeducation · 23/03/2009 16:49

Right I've had some of DS Raspberry and Bluberry rice cakes, yum! And another couple chocs. I haven't had a chance to shop today, but will write a list for tomorrow.

OP posts:
wastingmyeducation · 23/03/2009 17:35

I'm sure you mean well Mark, but an interrobang (?!) is never constructive!

OP posts:
MarkPT · 23/03/2009 18:35

interrobang?! New one to me !

I shall hold back my comments until asked...!

MrsMattie · 23/03/2009 18:39

Really good idea.

I've been keeping my own one since Jan and has really helped me with losing weight. Just so much harder to eat a whole packet of biscuits when you have to write it down and look at it in black and white .

Sharing it with the whole world (well, the whole of MN) - even better!

Today:

Breakfast: Porridge
Lunch: 1 slice bread with cheese & tomato, a banana, 2 glasses of orange juice
Afternoon: loads of water, 2 cups of tea, 1 apple & some grapes
Dinner: will be prawn & veg stirfry with egg noodles + greek yoghurt & honey and more water

kingprawntikka · 23/03/2009 18:50

Dinner: pigeon, baked potatoe, stir fry carrots, courgettes and mushrooms.

wastingmyeducation · 23/03/2009 20:18

Dinner - carrot and potato stew, bit of cheese, fromage frais and water.
Very scrappy menu today due to need to food shop.

Thanks for all the positive comments and welcome to everyone joining in!

Ok here goes!
8am slice toast w marg and a banana, coffee and water

water and coffee

1230 co-op tuna pasta salad thing that was 300 cals and had a lot of carrot in it and a diet coke.

230pm handful grapes and homemade wholemeal oat cookie water and decaf coffee

545pm chicken stirfried in sesame seeds, spinach, cauliflower, brown rice. scoop icecream and raspberries, water and decaff coffee

Now I'm thinking about wine and nibbles.
Looking at my day I'm shocked by all the coffee.
I wish I could be as good at night as I can be in the morning. The crisps are calling to me.

MaggsS · 24/03/2009 05:59

Morning everyone

Last night was gammon steak, jacket wedges, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and peas. I had a lot smaller portion than I normally would

I did have a small slice of homemade lemon cheesecake though and a small Pimms and lemonade.

Really pleased with yesterday.

Will try and go for a swim today if my parents will have DD2 for an hour.

Will buy some bottled water and a couple of lemons when I go. Also will try to get back to warm water and lemon first thing as it's good for cleansing the system.

Infact I will boil the kettle now

MaggsS · 24/03/2009 08:03

Me again.
Just had a bowl of Special K and skimmed milk.
Now off on school run.

wastingmyeducation · 24/03/2009 08:24

Medium sized bowl of porridge, half a fromage frais and a coffee.

First I need to confess to last nights after dinner indulgences: 1/2 bag liquorice allsorts. 3/4s bag floral gums. very small handful peanuts. Thats nearly all my mothers day sweets eaten now so should do better today!!
Ok breakfast: two slices toast with peanut butter, an apple and a glass of orange juice

luckylady74 · 24/03/2009 10:50

confession time here too - had large glass of wine, small bit of cheese and lots of salsa and carrots sticks last night.

Had banana and toast and about6 cashews for breakfast, oh and 2 coffees so far!

I think my danger time is 9pm - 1030 pm, but have finished all the wine so that should help tonight.

I think what I eat is fine- just not a diet!

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 24/03/2009 10:55

I'll join. I find writing down what I eat helps as it makes you go if you are overeating. It is easy to lose track of how much you are eating untill you write it down.

Today I have had;
Breakfast; Two eggs scrambled with half a tin of beans and two slices wholemeal toast. two large cups of coffee with ss milk.

Lunch will be; Lean pork loin steaks topped with apple sauce and cheese with oven chips and garden peas.

Snack before work; banana and raisins.

Dinner; Mini fillet burger with cheese and mayo and a coffee.

Does that sound okay or I am being a piggy?

wastingmyeducation · 24/03/2009 12:09

Finished my Mothers day chocs at 10.
Having leftover carrot stew and pancakes for lunch.
