I started [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/big_slim_whatever_weight_loss_club/673982-so-3-double-G-amp-Ts-and-a-bo x-of this thread]] after Christmas, but like many others I've slipped back into my old ways. Half term was particularly bad and need to kick-start healthy eating/weight loss. Anyone from that thread or any new people care to join me?

Hi all. No wabbit, not working tonight. I'm phasing back in gently so just doing 1 shift each week and then gradually building up. Tonight was ice skating night. I'm starting to see a big difference in my legs and bum. Much more toned and dare i say it...less cellulite . I think it's the combination of skating, swimming and walking. Just need to concentrate on the belly-overhang issue now.

Mabs IKWYM. I've been really crap for a couple of weeks now but i'm determined not to let it get to me. Wine is by far my biggest downfall but my activity levels are up so i'm not beating myself up. I was giving myself a hard time until the girls on here made me feel better about all the positive stuff I was doing. It's these guys who keep me going...so stick with it. We are all in this together

Crackernut, hope you're feeling better now. That bloated feeling isn't nice. Damn it for coming between you and your well deserved chips!

lilolilmanchester · 13/03/2009 12:18

Hi everyone, glad you're all keeping each other going on here. Have been crap at posting this week and crap at watching what I eat and drink, but it has been a mad fortnight.
Not working today, am going through summer clothes (off to Spain for a week at Easter). Really don't want to buy any new stuff, am hoping will have lost more weight by the summer . How much weight do you think I'll need to lose to drop an inch off my waist? If I lost 1/2 - 1 inch I'd have so much more to wear! Maybe that's the incentive I need for the next few weeks.

So far today I've had a hotcross bun (toasted, no butter) and a glass of milk. About to go make a sandwich for lunch.

OP posts:
wabbit · 13/03/2009 14:33

lilolil Hellooooooo! I doubt you even need to lose weight to lose inches from your waist, If you can concentrate between now and Easter on your posture throughout the day, conciously drawing up and in, and integrating some simple core exercises for morning and night including stretches I'm sure you'll trim your middle. Will take a bit of dedication thought one way or another

right - done the weekly weigh in...

I've lost 4lb this week, which I am absolutely thrilled with as I know the first week is often far more dramatic than subsequent weeks.

i'm totally expecting things to slow down from now.

I've reached my very first WW milestone which is 5% of my start weight

upagumtree · 13/03/2009 16:55

Wabbit, that's great news. You must be so pleased with yourself and rightly so You are putting me to shame

I was doing well today until I recieved "a certain phonecall" which put me in an incredibly bad mood. I was standing outside Thorntons at the time of the call and following said conversation, I bought a packet of thorntons chocolates and ate 3!

It didn't make me feel any better, in fact just made me feel quite sick instead. So much for comfort food!

I'm having friends over tomorrow evening for a meal. So i'm cooking something very "anti-slimming". No doubt lots of wine will be consumed and I will end up being very drunk and making yet another show of myself...ho hum. But I will try not to have dessert... a small consolation, I know.

Hope you all have a lovely evening and a great weekend x

wabbit · 13/03/2009 17:56

Thanks upagumtree
Sounds like you had an awful phonecall... hope you can forget it over the weekend (though not through alchol)

lilolilmanchester · 13/03/2009 22:10

awesome Wabbit... well done, you star!

upagumtree, have a great night tomorrow. I'd say if you fancy a pudding, have one, but only on the condition that if you do have one, you really, really savour and enjoy it and don't feel guilty at all afterwards. Remember, this is about sustainability. A pudding every day would be a bit daft, but life's too short not to enjoy a treat every now and then. My "now and then" has been too regular over the last couple of weeks, will try to focus back in on being good over the next few weeks.

wabbit · 13/03/2009 22:27

I knew I was having trouble with drink! I can't even spell alcohol!

it's my night for 'race for life' training tonight - dd has to look after ds whilst I disappear for 40 mins or so... cue dd to come in from college so i can go... NO DD... 6.30 she calls to say 'I'm stopping out'

Grrrrrrrrrrrr... 3rd weekend in a row that she's been away and next weekend she'll be at her dad's place. was supposed to be an US weekend.

Sorted the no sitter conundrum though - bundled ds into the buggy and went my power walk with him he loved it - "MUM... GO FASTER"... the backs of my legs are going to feel it tomorrow it's hilly here!

I have a lovely Jasper Conran dress which I was too plump to do justice to when i first wore it... I'm thinking of wearing it to the posh wedding I go to in May... might post before and after pics for my profile

upagumtree · 13/03/2009 23:32

Yes wabbit please do, i'd love to see them

allovertheplace · 14/03/2009 09:04

Wabbit - you total star! Well done you! Bloody marvellous result!

Gumtree - sorry to hear you've been upset by your phone call. Hope it's something that's fixable.

Great to see you on here again Lilolil. We all have our wobbly times, (usually when we're mad) on here, so you're not alone.

I had a mad day yesterday. Was in an all day meeting at work then straight to pick up DD from Day care, then to McDonalds before going to a party at a soft play, (strange time to have a children's party - 4.30 on a Friday night) then straight home in time for Comic Relief.

I did ok in Macdonalds. Only pinched about 3 fries and stuck to chicken salad (5 points). The work meeting I was at had gorgeous sandwiches and crisps for lunch so I took some snack a jacks and a ww yogurt with me to avoid having too many sarnies. Only had two in the end, (veggie ones). Reckon I was slightly outside my points by the time bedtime came, (by about one gin and tonic and some bombay mix) but as Lilolil says, life is too short and we DO need a treat now and then.

Still determined I'm going to have my nann bread and chicken pakora tonight. I bloody deserve it! Will try to squeeze in some wii fit if I'm staying in today. If going out, I'll stick my step counter on and try to earn some extra points.

allovertheplace · 14/03/2009 09:05

Sorry, that should have said...... especially when we're mad BUSY)...... doh!

wabbit · 14/03/2009 13:21

Thank you allovertheplace

I watched the ComicRelief stuff the features are so gutwrenching, I simply can't stop the tears... the money they've raised is fantastic

the slebs that went up Kilimanjaro must be so happy that they raised over 3million

beautiful day here

today:
shreddies
14pt milk

chicken sandwich/mayo no butter
salad
danone fat free yoghurt

MABS · 14/03/2009 16:48

you are all doing so very well ,thanks for yr support. I can do the exercise, pump tday, spin ystdy but am just being crap with food

Have incentive that i have to be in a bikini on 1 april, but still not helping me!

Weighed myself, no less but nore more either.

CrackerNut · 15/03/2009 09:25

Not a happy bunny here today. Had my brothers and their girlfriends over last night and so was trying to find something half decent to wear.

The pile of clothes I ended up with that no longer fit my was huge. I can't afford to have so many clothes that I can't wear, and can't afford anymore either.

My younger brothers gf is a WW leader and when I told her what i'd eaten most days last week she said I am not eating enough, but how does that work then.

I think I thought that if i cut out most of the bread I was eating then i'd lose a stone easily, but it just isn't working.

allovertheplace · 15/03/2009 11:02

Hi Crackernut

I think on the WW it's about getting the balance right. The points are a guide that you need to aim for and any under you would save. If you are consistently under and don't use up the spare points in a week, your body starts to think it's facing a permanent loss of calories and tries to hold on to fat, just in case - referred to as starvation mode. The same would apply, I guess, for any eating plan.

Mabs - don't give yourself too hard a time about the eating. At least you're exercising a fair bit which is damage limitation!

Well done for your tally on Saturday Wabbit - it was looking good!

I didn't have my nann bread and chicken pakora in the end. I made the mistake of checking how many points it was and it came to at least 14.5 . So, I opted for Chinese, (chicken chow mein) which was a much healthier 7.5 points. This left me 5 points from my saved bank so I blew it on a cake! No alcohol. When push comes to shove, the grub always wins over alcohol with me, especially if it's cake shaped!

Managed to do 23 minutes on Wii fit yesterday and unlocked 3 new games, 1 new level and 1 new muscle workout so was quite pleased with myself. Back muscles are aching a bit today though from trying out the new Boxing game!

Trying to be good again today and so far so good. Not going out anywhere and plan to have something with mash and veg tonight, (WW portion sizes) for tea.

upagumtree · 15/03/2009 16:20

Just popping in quickly to say hi. We had friends around for dinner last night, so all healthy eating was abandoned. However, I cheated with my vino and diluted every glass with lemonade. Still delicious but much less potent, hence no hangover today...yippee! I don't know how much added lemonade would affect calorific intake if any, but at least I don't feel groggy [smug emoticon]

It's DS1 16 birthday tomorrow So we are taking him bowling tonight and then a meal of his choice anywhere. I'd love him to chose Thai or something equally delish, but I think my chances are slim. By my reckoning it'll be uber greasy KFC or MacDonalds.

No weigh in again for me this week as we didn't go swimming today, however there has been a small revelation with the scales there. DH and I only ever use the pool scales every week. He is always 11st on the line. However he attended for a pre-op assessment at hospital this week and he was weighed. On their scales he was only 10 1/2st...a full 7 lbs lighter. So i'm thinking that perhaps he pool scales are wrong and I could be 7lbs lighter too... or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.

Catch up with all later and looking forward to hearing your weekend stories and weight losses! Byeeee xxx

wabbit · 15/03/2009 23:54

evening all
We were out today, DP's brother's birthday and I was fully expecting (and kind of counting on full blown sunday roast)
... we got a fabulous (but very healthy) buffet with prawns, couscous, home made houmous, crudetes... of course there was pizza and sausage rolls and little sausages and garlic bread... but gubbins here was 'being good' and just ate the healthy stuff got home and felt totally diddled so toasted myself some thick sliced tiger bread and used real butter

(still within points though!)

allovertheplace the wii sounds fun, I tried one once, I was absolutely rubbish at the sports! funny trying though

upagumtree it's worth finding out your true weight - because that instant loss of 7lb may be just what you need to see your goal in sight

CrackerNut So sorry your feeling blue about clothes and how much your giving yourself as a daily allowance, top up your points on protein rather than bulky foods like bread... I'm sure you can do this... {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}

MABS can you feel a difference to your fitness with all your exercise? i know you say your not losing weight - the exercise must be firming you up though

I'll be poised to change the 'current weight' for everyone who's weighing in tomorrow

upagumtree · 16/03/2009 00:01

Yip but not sure how to find out my true weight.I dunno which scales to use now . Its all very puzzeling how someone can be half a stone lighter on one set of scale as opposed to another. Has anyone else found differences like this?

wabbit · 16/03/2009 00:17

You could book to see your nurse practitioner. Our health clinic has scales hanging about outside the practitioners rooms or tucked away in the store room - no-one minds if I nip in to use them - i'm currently using the ones in boots as they give a read-out. Think the medical ones are most accurate though

Night Gumtree

lilolilmanchester · 16/03/2009 09:50

Hi all, summoned up the courage to get on the scales this morning and have lost 2lb this week, which I'm quite pleased about as I've had a couple of meals out. Am going to try really hard over the next few weeks, I'd really like to fit into more than one pair of shorts for our holiday - and no intention of buying bigger ones!

Hiya lilolil - Fabulous that you've lost 2lb !
Being able to share experiences is so positive, I've never been so motivated to stick to a diet...
And i'm excited that i might just be able to fit the wardrobe of clothes that are hanging upstairs and haven't seen light of day for ages!
DS is running a very high temp here, he's got headaches poor lamb and wouldn't eat anything yesterday it does mean I don't have to work today, so i'm stuck at the computer trying to finish a 4000 word essay.

It's a training day for me too so later I can go out into this beautiful weather

Any more due to weigh in today?

upagumtree · 16/03/2009 12:53

Yippeeee Lilolil...2lbs! ,and also so glad you started this thread...coz I need you all too!!! Have so far managed to fit into 1 pair of trousers comfortably and am also wearing x2 tops that were previouly a bit "iffy" too. Although so far still no actual weight loss . But must be toning up and burning off fat though. I feel a bit bloated and heavier today though and tonight will be having a piece of yummy chocolate birthday cake for sure .

I can't believe my beautiful baby has turned 16! Where does the time go? So am totally justified in a spot of choco indulgence today methinks.

good luck for the weigh in girls. Fingers crossed for you all

wabbit are you having nice weather today?

wabbit · 16/03/2009 13:17

Oh happy birthday upagumtree's ds

Beautiful weather here!! [smug emoticon]

lilolilmanchester · 16/03/2009 13:44

thanks both, am particularly chuffed having put on a pound the previous week. Hope your DS is ok Wabbit, and that the essay is coming along ok.
Happy Birthday to your DS upagumtree- mine is 16 in May, so we can fret about the GCSEs together when the time comes! Enjoy every mouthful of your cake, we still need to have a few pleasures! It's glorious here too, have spent the morning weeding the garden, not that you can tell, there's a load still to do and it's not a large garden. Will no doubt suffer tomorrow. Have just come in to have lunch, probably a sandwich and cup-a-soup & some fruit. Had specialK for breakfast. I love it but it doesn't sustain me for very long.

OP posts:
upagumtree · 16/03/2009 14:11

Lilolil IKWYM about the fretting over exams. David had is music practical this Thursday. I'm having kittens about it and he doesn't give a jot! Says he hates music and doeasn't care if he fails, "coz it's just rubbish" followed by some indestinguishable neandethal grunting.

that everyone seems to be basking in glorious weather and it's raining here...and I can't vacuum my car in the rain without some sort of electrocution risk.

Breakfast: special k (which satisfies me quite nicely lilo) Isn't it funny how we are all so different?

Lunch: Cheese Salad with some nice wafer thin wiltshire ham. Followed a by a cheeky little Thorntons chocolate just one though

Wabbit, I hope ds is feeling better soon

lilolilmanchester · 16/03/2009 14:56

shame you've not got this nice spring weather upagumtree - where are you (roughly if you don't want to say exactly).
DS has done 2 GCSE modules in each of the 3 sciences already, did very well but only had a few subjects to focus on. He's not the hardest working of students, even compared to other boys, so whether he'll settle to revise for the big set of exams next term is a bit of a worry.
