So far as I know you can but you need to get your midwife to sign something to say it's ok.

soon2befamilyof4 · 16/03/2009 09:56

Ceolas - I am pregnant (35 weeks) and doing SW and have been for about 3 weeks now. I havn't joined officially though as we don't have the money so I just follow the diet at home. After baby is born I might fork out for classes but at the moment, I figgured weight ins wouldn't be much use as I would be gaining each week from baby and I didn't want that to get me down. I am loving it though and find it easy to follow when I am at home. Only tricky bit is when I go out.

soon2befamilyof4 · 16/03/2009 09:58

Does anybody know if tinned soups are free? I don't mind what really, I am just trying to increase my options for lunch. At the moment I am eating beans at one meal a day and I don't want to end up getting fed up with them.

Lemontart · 16/03/2009 10:03

Mmm green day roasted pots are one of my favourite side dishes!
I par boil, bash in pan to fluff up, roast in liberal squirts of olive oild fry light, turning halfway through and giving another squirty. After second turning I sprinkle with big flakes of maldon sea salt and stick a few sticks of rosemary from the garden. Lovely!

Parsnips done the same way are lovely too - esp. with a tsp of finely grated parmesan from your dairy box. sprinkled over near the end. Yummy!

soon2befamilyof4 - if you love garlic, have you tried getting a large garlic heat and slowly roasting it, (frylight and salt) cutting off the top and using it as a dip? really yummy as part of a greenday buffet. Cold, it is great whizzed up with fat free yoghurt and chickpeas to make a hoummous type dish (paprika, seasoning, juice of half a lemon, 1 tin cooked chickpeas and enough sploshes of yoghurt to bind it together)

nikkid21 · 16/03/2009 14:27

soon2be - tinned soups are not free - certain ones are listed as health B choices in the booklet and on the website but otherwise you have to syn them.

What about having some cous cous or cold pasta salad for lunch? I get stuck in the lunch rut too esp on red days - always seem to have eggs in one form or another.

applepudding · 16/03/2009 18:02

soon2be - you can make free soup very easily - use half a pack of frozen casserole veg (or any fresh chopped veg of your choice). Put in saucepan with tinned tomatoes or passatta, a spoon of chicken bovril and water to cover, then simmer for about half an hour and liquidise with hand blender.

You can add potato, lentils, beans or chopped meat depending on which plan you are doing, also you can omit the tomatoes and put in some spices.

If you make a big pan (more veg and a second tin of toms) you can freeze.

I have just made my quark pasta and am totally shocked that it was actually quite nice. I sauteed mushroooms and leeks in garlic, boiled and drained pasta, put back in saucepan, added the mushrooms and leeks to the saucepan, then stirred in half a pot of the quark. I also put some chopped cooked bacon in. It needed plenty of salt and pepper to give it some taste, and would also have benefitted some grated cheese if you have an extra healthy extra option to use. I would cook it again, but i confess i gave DH and DS some sauce in a jar as I didn't want complaints in case it was horrible.

Ceolas · 16/03/2009 19:53

Thanks soon2be. I've never done SW before so don't have the materials. I'd need to go along to a group to get those I presume?

soon2befamilyof4 · 16/03/2009 19:55

Thats good about the quark - I might have to buy some. Is it free or low syn? I love pasta dishes so always looking for new ones! Although DH won't touch mushrooms or leeks!! Maybe I will do that one when he is working late! I get double HE A because of being pregnant so could add some cheese to it quite easily. Will add quark to my shopping list!

Thank you for the soup receipe too, I will have to give it a go and freeze some. Do you make it creamy or runny? Not sure it is the same without a yummy white roll but never mind.

I am going to legoland for the day on friday and need to bring my own lunch - any ideas what I can take? I want to stick to it completly but think I will struggle. I am a lot more fussy with cold food then I am with hot. I always have a hot lunch and since doing SW I have a hot brekkie too.

Lemon - I am interested in making the garlic dip. What is a "garlic heat" . And what can we use to dip? Just vegetables?

Have got the chicken and bacon thingy in the oven now as DH was ill yesterday. I had already made it but not cooked so I kept it in the fridge till today. Having it with broccoli and corn on the cob so completely free.

ProfYaffle · 16/03/2009 20:09

I had some quark tonight. I made pot roast beef with mixed veggies, I put a large splodge of quark on top of the veg and sprinkled it with paprika.

I was quite impressed, it's thicker than I thought it would be, dh even spontaneously commented on how nice it was. Does it split or curdle when you heat it?

soon2befamilyof4 · 16/03/2009 20:45

Is quark free?

LittleMissFickle · 17/03/2009 06:12

Yep, quark is free

nikkid21 · 17/03/2009 08:24

soon to be - I think garlic heat must actually be garlic head - ie a whole bulb.

I don't think corn on the cob is free if you are on a red day. I'm pretty sure sweetcorn is like potatoes, peas and parsnips (the exception in whole baby sweetcorn thet you get in stirfrys)

soon2befamilyof4 · 17/03/2009 09:19

I am not doing red/green I am doing Extra easy - doesn't this mean all fruit and veg are free?

To be honest, I can't see the benefits of red/green. Extra easy seems so much more flexible? What are the pros to red/green? I think I must be missing something because everybody seems to be doing it? I don't know an awful lot about it but it seems a lot more complicated and more restrictive?

nikkid21 · 17/03/2009 12:24

Sorry didn't realise that you were on EE - sweetcorn is fine for that.

I prefer red / green as I like to have 2 healthy b choices - weetabic in the morning and then bread or a hifi bra as my second choice. Also because I'm only 7lb from traget EE makes it too easy for me to overeat and not lose weight. Red / green is better for a portion control point of view for me.

soon2befamilyof4 · 17/03/2009 13:58

Oh I see, I didn't realise you got 2 HE B choices on red/green. Can you do a combo of red/green/EE? Just wondering on a day that I want to HEB? I think I would struggle to stick to just red or green though TBH and it is a lot to get your head around to start with.

ProfYaffle · 17/03/2009 16:16

It is confusing at first. Just to add to the information overload you've also got Mix to Max and Success Express! I decided to stick to Red and Green at first to get my head around the rules before I considered other options. I've since read on here and other SW support forums that a few people don't seem to lose so well on EE so I've continued to stick to Red and Green.

btw, you can choose each day whether to go Green, Red or EE.

kid · 17/03/2009 16:59

I am doing the EE, I lost 4lb this week and didn't even go without anything really. Okay, I missed the chocolate and the biscuits but it was so worth it.
Actually looking forward to weighing in next Monday now!

ConnieComplaint · 17/03/2009 17:10

Hiya

I follow SW but have been really slow in the weight coming off!

I've been there since the 3rd week in January & have just managed to lose 7lb! As I said, v.slow.

I usually do green days, but throw in a couple of original days, usually a Saturday so I can have bacon for breakfast & a steak for dinner!!!

I haven't been too bad this week, even though I took the kids to McDonalds after swimming... I had a diet coke!

(I had a bun when I cane home though )

I'm going to have a lovely stir fry for dinner tonight. Beef strips [HEB] with peppers, onions, mushrooms, carrots, and a tin of chinese vegetables, served with noodles... am really looking forward to it!

I was really busy this morning so just grabbed an apple before we went swimming..so I had 4 mini potatoes cooked in herbs, garlic & red onions for tea, followed by a few mini crackers (syns) & the bun (syns!) but I have syns for them so am OK!! (I think!!!!)

soon2befamilyof4 · 17/03/2009 17:23

I like to save my Syns for some chocolate in the evening or a chocolate milkshake or hot chocolate . Then I really don't feel like I am missing out. I am dreading easter with all the easter eggs though! Especially as I will be nearly giving birth so will be feeling pretty crappy!

hectich1979 · 17/03/2009 19:58

Hello all can I creep back in please. I've joined class again tonight. I'm 30 in August and I don't want to be fat for my party! (remind me of this when I fall of the wagon!!) Have worked out how many weeks till my birthday exactly 22 so reasonably at 2lb a week I can lose 44lbs so I'm aiming for a 3 stone 42lb loss by my birthday. I need to lose 5 stone to get to my ultimate target so any extra will be fantastic. I can do this I've done it before but then piled it back on (stupid I know)but I'm back on plan and need to keep the motivation going week after week and hopefully writing on here regularly and enjoying all of your posts will help. Thanx all H x

hectich1979 · 17/03/2009 19:59

oh by the way password is Burger xx

applepudding · 17/03/2009 21:20

Back to the posts about red/green/Extra Easy - Extra Easy is a new SW choice from this Jan.

I've done SW before and always got fed up with red days because I couldnt have mashed potato with my meat, (I ended up doing myself cottage pie with mash swede but potato for everyone else) and on green days because I'm not really into cooking vege type meals I'd have baked potatoes with packet pasta'n'sauce or tinned spagetti every meal - and tbh I didn't really seem to lose if I did too many green days.

I also lost weight last year with WW but as I'm no good at serving myself up small portions I could only keep within the points if I had a ready meal, and when I stopped doing that I put the weight back on. (hectich I don't think you are stupid putting weight back on as I do it too)

So I'm now doing SW EE which is really great for me as its just like normal eating but minus all the biscuits. I've lost 7lb since I started at the beginning of Feb, which is OK as I never feel I'm missing out, or that I'm actually 'on a diet'.

LittleMissFickle · 18/03/2009 06:32

On SW EE how many HEA , HEB and syns are you allowed.I seem to be falling of the wagon all the time on the red and green days.

Lost 1 1/2 pounds this week

ProfYaffle · 18/03/2009 07:10

hectich - we've all been there I think. I've done WW several times Losing weight is one of the things I'm really good at, although I'm hoping to give it up during 2009 iyswim.

I've done a fair bit of soul searching this time round and think I've identified why I'm doing this from a psychological point of view. SW also feels like a sustainable way of life, WW felt like a diet.

btw, 1 each, he a & b on ee.

ProfYaffle · 18/03/2009 07:11

Syns the same as original/red.
