OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 06/05/2009 13:14

She did like large portions too, I was like this at her Mum's roast dinner, it was huuuuuge.

Lilyloo · 06/05/2009 13:22

Password this week is CUSTARD

I have box of mini milk ice creams in the freezer but no longer feel like them with this weather now!
Need some more low sweet ideas.
Made egg custard last night. Eggs , fromage frais , sweetener and nutmeg. Was lovely and free on extra easy or green!

ConnieComplaint · 06/05/2009 13:47

Have you tried to make rice pudding Lily? Dh makes it for me (Hey, i'm no cook!) he puts cinamonn in through it, it's delicious, and as you say, free on a green or EE day!!

Low sweet ideas... Did you ever try making scan bran chocolate cake? Or carrot cake? I don't have the recipes but i'm sure someone on here will have! And if you're stuck i'll look through my old books & see if I can find them!

Have you tried looking on the website for stuff?

Curly Wurly: 6.5 syns
Freddo: 5 syns
Fudge: 6 syns
A bag of buttons are only 9 syns (giant buttons 10.5 syns!) and if you put them in the fridge/freezer then suck them, they last ages!! Maybe over 2 nights if you are a late night snacker!!
A small wildlife bar is just 5.5 syns too!!

or merignue nests aren't too high in syns...maybe 3 or 4, not sure how many exactly. But top with natural yoghurt & strawberries & kiwi then grate a wee bit of flake over it & it make a very tasty alternative to pavalova on a Sunday!!

ConnieComplaint · 06/05/2009 13:51

Re: portions, I know!!

Even dh said to me "F*ck me...I'd struggle to eat that dinner!"

But, she just had a healthy (or not so healthy!) appetite!

I felt for her though, when she was saying to the counsellor "I feel people look at me & just see fat...see how I look." then when the counsellor agreed with her she was deadly upset, cried & everything.

What a struggle for her, but I know what it's like. I refused to be on my sisters wedding 14 years ago because I was fat...and when I look back now I wasn't fat at all, just stupid!!! Even when dh & I got married I thought everyone who said I looked beautiful was making fun of me as I wouldn't accept I could look nice for once!!

ProfYaffle · 06/05/2009 14:03

I've c&p this from that SW support site, hope I don't get into trouble, they're a bit protective of their recipe section!

8 syn chocolate cake!
For 2 servings (8 syns)

2 eggs
5 tbps granulate sweetener
12g cocoa powder
38g self raising flour

Whisk the eggs and sweetener for about 4-5 mins until they go paler and slightly fluffy (they don't go as pale as when you whisk them with sugar)
Sift in the cocoa powder and SR flour, then using a metal spoon fold in gently so you don't knock all the air out.
Whack it in a microwaveable dish and micro for about 1min 30 (that's in a 850w)
Done.

You could make an individual one for 4 syns:

1 egg
2.5 tbsps sweetener
6g cocoa powder
19g SR Flour

You could serve with some aerosol cream, muller toffe yoghurt, slightly warmed muller vanilla yoghurt, custard, frozen yoghurt, or make a chocolate sauce with a highlights sachet for a couple more syns.
Melt a 99 size flake and pour over the top (6.5 syns per serving with cake)

Syrup sponge - use all SR flour instead of cocoa and before you put the mix in the dish put 1tbsp golden syrup per serving in the bottom (each portion then 6.5 syns)

Plain sponge - leave the cocoa out and voila

I've not tried it yet, am going to make it for the dc tonight.

LumpyChump · 06/05/2009 14:32

Just saw 'Fix my Fat Head' on iPlayer. A girl from my way! That Greggs at the beginning, I used to work right by that!

I did feel for her. It has taken me years to get used to eating some food and can totally relate to that.

I agree that the sunday dinner was huge but my mum does the same, perhaps it's a Welsh thing!!

Goes to show that if you can stick to SW, we must be doing something right, even if we have our ups and downs

Lilyloo · 06/05/2009 14:48

ooh some good sweet ideas there thanks
i have the fun size maltesers 5 syns
and the pink and white mallows 2.5 syns
will def try the cakes though! the carrot cake sounds yummy
might get some curly wurlys too freeze too ,they must take ages to eat then

AuntieMaggie · 06/05/2009 16:47

Am I the only one on here that has masses of weight to lose then? I have about 6 stone or so to lose.

That's on top of the half a stone I lost since re-joining SW last month (which I have probably put back on again after the past week!)

I do fine when people leave me alone, but once I get stressed or have a lot going on I find there just isn't enough room in my brain to think straight and staying with other people doesn't help as I'm too polite to complain about fatty food!

If I can lose most of my weight by xmas I will be happy as I am not going to start another new year like this. I'm bigger now than I have ever been and although the weight I've put on in the past 2 years isn't 100% my fault I haven't helped matters!

I am so unfit. You wouldn't believe that I did the london moonwalk 3 years ago

OK, I need to stop moaning now and get motivated!!!

AuntieMaggie · 06/05/2009 16:50

PS I'm going away with the girls from work next weekend - any ideas of what I can do to limit the amount of damage?

What foods I can take (we're going by coach so needs to be light and able to travel and no storage at hostel!)?

ProfYaffle · 06/05/2009 21:02

Ooh crikey AM, that's a tall order! Are you staying at a Youth Hostel? Are you sure there's no storage? They usually have a self catering kitchen, you can check the yha website for facilities at individual hostels. If there's a kitchen that gives you more options doesn't it?

I made the 4 syn choc cake tonight (the individual version) and it was nice but fairly plain, needs jazzing up. I melted a Cadbury Fudge in the microwave with a smidge of skimmed milk (only a tiny bit) and poured that over. Hot chocolate fudge cake for 10 syns, yummy. Would have been nice with some raspberries or strawberries mixed in too.

I had 1lb on

I am disgusted at myself..... I can't even think what I ate that would've caused the gain... surely to goodness one ice-cream cone couldn't cause it?

I did 2 spin classes & half an hour/hour every other day on the gliding machine.

Hoping it's a blip & i'll have it off next week again...though am seriously pissed off.

bummer Connie , but agree bout seeing what next week brings!

Fuzzy is the pasta nice ? It looks lovely in mag!

fuzzypeach · 06/05/2009 22:24

Yes Lily it is really nice, even fussy DH likes it and said "you can add that to the list of regulars!" although im not keen on mixing low fat fromage frais in recipes so i always use half fat creme fraiche instead - 1.5syns per tbsp

ProfYaffle · 07/05/2009 06:44

Is the creme fraiche less prone to splitting? That's the problem I always have.

Connie - I'm sure it's a blip, I find when I bump up my exercise it takes at least a fortnight to filter through to actual weight loss.

ProfYaffle · 07/05/2009 11:02

AuntieMaggie, I've just noticed that SW Forum I linked to has a section for people with 6 stone plus to lose, don't know if you're interested in joining up. It's a members only section so you can't lurk to see what it's like, unfortunately.

(And no, I'm not on commission!)

AuntieMaggie · 07/05/2009 14:19

Thanks profyaffle

Not sure about the kitchen thing - I'll check but don't want to be stuck in the hostel eating if everyone else is eating out

fuzzypeach · 07/05/2009 16:08

I think it is less likely to split yes, infact I dont think creme fraiche has ever done that when I have used it, that puts me off fromage frais as well

well ive just got in from work, was meant to go to the gym on the way home but I am so tired I decided to give it a miss - was going to do my davind dvd instead, but ive decided to have a little nap before I pick the girls up from nursery as Im absolutely knackered!! Oh well, will try to make the gym time up at the weekend...

ProfYaffle · 07/05/2009 16:26

In that case I may give it a go Fuzzypeach.

AM - I don't mean to stay in while the others go out but you can store stuff like fruit and Muller Light, fill up on that kind of thing before you go so you eat less while out. You can also cook yourself a SW friendly breakfast which should hopefully set you up for the day and less prone to having a large lunch while out iyswim.

AuntieMaggie · 07/05/2009 18:14

I have put on a whopping.... 3 pounds!

Not happy with that but also relieved as I was dreading it possibly being more after 2 weekends of pure junk.

So back on it properly as from tomorrow - especially as there are no biscuits or sweets left in work!

I will take fruit and yogurt with me but they don't have cooking facilities so the breakfast is out of the question... though I could take cereal and buy milk when I get there.. hmm...

ProfYaffle · 07/05/2009 20:10

I'm sure the 3lbs will come off really easily AM. tbh I think the weak point of SW is eating away from home, I find it really hard. Bad luck there's no kitchen, that's really unusual for a yha hostel. They must surely lay on breakfast then? Hopefully they'll have some healthy options.

herbgarden · 07/05/2009 21:08

Hi there....
I have just joined SW by post and am still waiting for my pack to come through although was at a friends at the weekend who is doing SW so I had a read through her stuff. I did WW about 6 years ago when my weight went up considerably and did ok on it. I have just had baby no 2 14 weeks ago and my sis is getting married in the summer and I'm bridesmaid. I just can't get motivated or keep my hand out of the biscuit/choc cupboard and together with the coffee/cake in the morning, I can see my weight creeping up.

Anyway, rather than start SW at the weekend or half way through the week I've tried to cut back on at least the snacky things this week but I'm starving !!......I know I have to read the literature really don't I but what do you snack on ?

If I have joined by post, how will I know how many syns I can have or will the consultation with the lady on the phone tell me ??

Finally (sorry I have a few ?'s) - what is your fave fat free salad dressing - they've never been a favourite of mine so I need to find a good one.....
Any other good pointers? I am almost out of food in the fridge so want my pack to arrive so I can compile a SW shopping list DH is not very excited about the weeks ahead
Thanks !

herbgarden · 07/05/2009 21:11

PS creme fraiche shouldn't split - including low fat/healthy eating ones - best to take food off the heat and stir in rather than doing it whilst on full on heat. If you put a bit of CF in with a small bit of FF you can do half and half but again off heat and then serve warm instead?

MamaG · 07/05/2009 22:19
