Thanks for the recipes fuzzy I bought plenty of chicken today and have salmon in the freezer. My mum has also got trout for me which I've never tried (I'm a bit fussy with fish too) so goodness knows what I'm going to do with it.

I'm not feeling too badly about the gain, though it is a bit of a let down after 6lbs lost the week before though thinking about it I hardly ate anything the day of the weigh in the week before as I'd had prawn salad for lunch the day before which made me sick.

I'm just knuckling down to it this week although I'm going out for a meal on wednesday night so that may affect my weigh in on Thursday.

Today I didn't eat until this afternoon (I seriously am rubbish at eating at the weekends) when I had a cheese sandwich (HE A and B) and a bag of walkers french fries. Dinner tonight was beef casserole (onion, carrot, one oxo cube, splash of wocester sauce) and cauliflower cheese from a recent SW magazine.

The cauliflower cheese was nice, but I reduced the amount of cheese as I used full fat instead and I had to drain off some excess water a couple of times during cooking. Will make it again though - wonder if I could make it in advance and take it for lunch?

My jeans which aren't more than a couple of months old are definitely looser on me so I may only be 4 pounds lighter by SW but if I lose a little more weight I'll need new ones!

applepudding · 10/04/2009 21:43

Fuzzypeach - your recipes sound lovely. I've been trying to think of some different things to do with chicken.

Can you tell me how you make your creamy pasta with smoked salmon please? I've got some smoked salmon in the freezer since they were selling it off cheap after Christmas!

Aunt Maggie - I find that it takes a couple of days for any changes in my weight to show up on the scales, e.g. if i've had a weekend where I've been out a lot, my weight doesnt go up until Tues or Wed, and the same for if I've been really good and exercised. Also I only ever weigh myself at the same time of the day. If you stick with your healthy eating you'll probably find that you have lost some at your next weigh in. 6 lb was a lot to lose in one week so it may have just been that your body was catching up on itself, if that makes sense.

I made myself some home-made soup with lots of veg and lentils in on Wed, and on Wed and Thurs I just had that for my lunch and day time snacks with an apple, so I'm hoping that will kick-start my weight loss again.

jenk1 · 11/04/2009 11:35

well ive been very naughty this week

last nite we went for an italian meal and i had

garlic bread
creamy chicken/mushroom pasta
tiramisu
lots of red wine

but boy it was lovely

back on it today tho and ive just made a big pan of gruel ie lentil and veg soup!!!!

its lovely and free on EE or a green day,i can post the recipe for anyone who would like it,so im going to eat that for the next couple of days with lots of fruit and hopefully i wont have put too much weight on when its WI on weds.

Ewe · 11/04/2009 13:24

Weighed in this morning and I have lost... 6.5lbs!! I am so thrilled, especially as last Sunday I went out for a chinese.

I am pretty astounded that I managed to lose more than a pound as I have eaten so much food. Hopefully this will keep me motivated over Easter - the woman who runs my group stuck syn values on easter eggs today MUST AVOID.

Thanks fp! That smoked salmon recipe sounds delicious.

There was one easter egg, quite a big Mars one (including bars) and it was 80 syns

jenk1 · 11/04/2009 14:57

Gruel aka lentil and veg soup

Bag of lentils - i use red
Onion
1 large leek
2 celery stalks
medium bag of carrots
veg stock cube- i use marigold, bouillon powder its either half or one syn per teaspoon but its negligable as you dont eat a full pan all in one go!!!

rinse lentils and then cook them in boiling water till they go orangey
chop the veg quiet small
put in pan with lentils
cover with water
bring to boil then turn down to a simmer
for around 20 mins depending on how soft you like the veg
stir in veg stock cube to taste
i usually blend mine but its also nice not.

it freezes really well and keeps in the fridge for a couple of days.

AuntieMaggie · 11/04/2009 19:06

Oh feck - DP has come home with 2 pizzas, beer and nibbles for tonight!

applepudding · 11/04/2009 22:38

Feeling pleased with myself tonight! Just done Easter tea party for parents & FIL, and had all SW EE friendly food: slices of lean meat and home made pasta, rice and potato salads and some home made dip. I piled my plate up and ignored the mini sausages, chocolate cake and hot cross buns! I had about 5 mini eggs but they only seem to have 15 calories each so I don't think that is too bad syns wise?? About 5 I'm guessing. Does anyone know?

We are going out for day tomorrow but will be going for a walk along the river and lunch in a pub I know does things like baked potatoes. I'll take a couple of apples and cereal bar in my bag too.

I've given myself a target of a weight I want to have got to by the time I go back to work after the Easter hols (I'm term time) which gives me another 2 pounds to lose next week.

AM - Is your partner purposefully unhelpful re your weight loss or does he think he is being kind by getting stuff in to save cooking, and not understand what you are trying to do? Enjoy your treats this evening, then maybe have a word with him tomorrow about what you may have preferred. Mine now knows that I don't want boxes of chocs as present and steers DS to alternative presents for me.

Apple - he thought he was being nice bringing home stuff for tea to save me cooking. He forgot what I'm trying to do.

We've been going through a bit of a rough patch and had spent yesterday apart doing our own thing and he came home all loving saying he'd missed me and with presents of pizza, beer and nibbles for the evening in front of the tv.

I had some pizza but steered clear of the beer and nibbles.

Wolfblass · 13/04/2009 14:32

Hiya all,

I'm Becs, mummy to Georgia-Mae who is 5 and Gabriel who was 3 weeks last Friday.

I've been recommended joining this thread by Jenk1

I re-joined an SW group last Tuesday, however it's been a disastrous first week. The freezer packed in, we had two dreadful attempts at meals out with the children, ended up coming home and having take out pizza one night, another time eating something off the menu i shouldn't of (as the thngs i could have they had ran out of) and then on Saturday night MIL brought around and Indian, and wine and i had some chocs just for added badness!!!

I joined SW in April last year and weighed in at 14st 7.5, in Jube i went on Holiday to Rhodes and weighed 13st 7.5, however 2 weeks after getting back from our Jollies i found out i was pg. However even after all the pizza and chocs i troughed when pg i weighed in at 13st 9, and ds is only 3 weeks old. I am delighted with that!

can you all please give me a kick up the backside, i cannot believe i will be gaining in my first week

I'm struggling to get into the extra easy plan too! Do you find it easy??

AuntieMaggie · 13/04/2009 17:45

Hi Wolf

I'm on week 3 but have done SW before. I love the new extra easy plan except when I want 2 healthy extra A or B choices when I do the red plan.

If you're struggling to get onto the extra easy plan I would suggest talking to to your consultant on Tuesday or sticking to Red or Green days for a couple of weeks and then try again.

Basically you can have the free food from red and green days on extra easy but only 1 healthy extra A and B choice.

applepudding · 13/04/2009 18:46

Hi Wolf

I'm doing Extra Easy too. I've done SW before and what I like about EE is that all the things that put me off SW before (having to have a small measured portion of meat or fish if I wanted to have mashed potato or rice, or mashed swede on a cottage pie) are not there, so it is very very simple to follow.

I tend to have fruit and yogurt for breakfast, baked potato with cottage cheese & ham, or baked beans for lunch and pretty much what I want for evening meal as long as I've made it without fat or sauce mixes so roast chicken and mashed potato & veg, spaghetti bolognese, curry or chilli with rice etc. I have two alpen lite bars as my HEB choice and eat these as snacks. Then if I'm still hungry I just eat extra fruit or yogurt.

The down side is that I am not losing weight as quickly as following red days before, and I have had some weeks where I've got stuck, but I don't think it is any slower than if you do mainly green days.

A good idea if you are not sure what to eat is to follow the 7 day eating plan in the SW magazine. You can also make any of the recipes in the magazine as you use the lowest of the syn counts for red/green for the Extra Easy.

BlueBumedFly · 13/04/2009 20:15

Hello, I am new, overweight and in need of dieting friends. If I do weight watchers and not SW as the only weigh in I can get to is on Saturday mornings and is WW can I still join the thread? Pretty desperate ....

Wolfblass · 13/04/2009 21:13

Thanks Apple pudding nad Auntie Maggie,

I emailed my consultant on Saturday - but i've had no reply

I think i might just do that have red days and then do extra easy when i'm not too bothered about my healthy extras.

I usually have a hifi bar at night whilst wathcing tv and i love cheese so they would be the two healthy extras i'd have nearly eveyr day. But then i'd need milk for a cups of tea / coffee etc. I think i can see how i could do it now.

I'm dreading tomorrow, after such a bad start though i'm hoping it will give me extra determination to carry on

x

applepudding · 13/04/2009 21:56

Hi Bluebumedfly, my friend goes to WW for her weigh in as she is getting these classes for free through her docs, but she follows SW as she prefers this eating plan. She has done it before though so she knows how the plan works.

Wolf - I always use my HEA for milk as I drink lots of tea and coffee. I've actually given up on eating cheese, which is probably better for me as its one of those things I tend to over eat on and find it difficult to stop at the 1 oz portion you get as HE. But if you do red or green days you can have both.

Perhaps your consultant is on holiday.

Hope you have a better day tomorrow

BlueBumedFly · 13/04/2009 22:03

Thanks applepudding, I am in. First class Saturday !

Wolfblass · 14/04/2009 14:00

Not sure how i managed it but i lost 3lbs!!!!!!

My first week was a total disaster food wise, well 3 out of 7 days were anyway!

I've done a meal plan for this week, and have left plenty of space for syns - no meal shave a syn value, so hopefully will have a loss next week too.

Well done wolf!

mmmm krispy kreme donut.... we don't get them here in sunny bristol otherwise I'd be stuffed.

No easter eggs for me though I did have chinese last night and going out tomorrow night so expecting another gain on Thursday.

I have just made the chicken curry that was in the SW mag - it's bloody gorgeous if a little spicy and FREEEEEEEE!!! So I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. If I don't eat them tonight it is!

applepudding · 14/04/2009 22:38

Well done wolf - that's brilliant!

Easter is so dificult for dieting with chocolate everywhere! We have about 8 eggs in the cupboard - so far I've managed with just eating a few mini eggs but they are giving me the chocolate taste back! Have bought myself some low fat chocolate drink sachets so hopefully this will give me the taste without the syns.

I did ask DS for a bite of his creme egg today and the horrible child stuffed the whole lot in his mouth in one go!
