New thread! Other one got a bit long!

OP posts:
rosieposey · 23/03/2009 11:15

Hello everyone - newbie here. I posted on your previous thread about 8 weeks ago because i wanted to have a go at slimming world. I did join last April but got pregnant in June and didnt do very well .

I have the books from last year. Can someone just tell me if it is still the same? I have all the details of mix to match and success express or whatever but i thought you were allowed two healthy extras from each ( A and B)? I think i have read thats no longer the case but not sure?

I have a 6 week old lo (not BFing though) and im just vegitating at home atm so feel with spring well and truly here i ought to do something. i have LOADS to lose ( about 6 stone ) but only put on a stone in my pregnancy which i am grateful for If anyone has any tips or anything new that i need to know about in the last year thats happened at SW i would be really grateful for the info - otherwise i will just use the book and stick mostly to green days

Right i will now skim through this thread for some extra inspiration!

rosieposey · 23/03/2009 11:16

Oh should add that i was a bit torn between doing SW or WW but have decided to stick with SW as im always hungry! ( and i have the books for SW )

rosieposey · 23/03/2009 11:30

Ok have just skimmed a couple of SW threads and see there is something called extra easy now? Could anyone please explain (if its not too complicated) what this entails Thank you!

Ceolas · 23/03/2009 11:46

As far as I understand rosie extra easy means you can have all free food from red and green days but only one HEA/B. So you can have spaghetti bolognese with unlimited meat and pasta.

As far as syns go, you count the lower value eg. if something is 2 syns on green and 4 on red it would be 2 on EE.

rosieposey · 23/03/2009 11:54

Thank you for that Ceolas that sounds too good to be true but will definately give it a go as it sounds perfect and would lose the boredom factor that i sometimes get with SW ( sticking to either a red or green day i was always trying to bend the rules as wanted both! )

ProfYaffle · 23/03/2009 12:33

I like Quorn sausages! Mind you I was veggie for years so was used to eating them and I don't like meaty sausages now.

b0bbins · 23/03/2009 14:38

Hi ProfYaffle & applepudding. I've decided to have a go at extra easy this week. I'm using the journal so I can see what I'm allowed. It's quite unbelievable really that you can have both green and red (free foods) together! I've read some reviews on SW website and some people have lost really well like 4 - 13lb in one week!!! I have a real problem at weekends with red wine, we usually have at least 1 bottle, sometimes leads to 2, so that's gallons of syns! I am also doing the Claire Sweeny perfect fit DVD excercise part anyway and hoping that this will help things along. Finding it quite good so far not too energetic but more slow and controlled. I'm measuring myself too just to keep a track of things. Gosh what a lot of waffle, sorry. Have a good week all x

nikkid21 · 23/03/2009 14:59

Ceolas explains extra easy exactly right. I found that it didn't work for me but i'm only half a stone over target and i like to have my full 15 syns each day for choccy and wine in the evening.

The consensus at my group seems to be that if you have a stone or more to lose it works really well. You do have to watch the portion control and it's best if 1/3 of you meal of made up of superfree foods (ie free on red or green)

MissGreatBritain · 23/03/2009 15:57

Am having 2 SW friends round for a girls' night in. Want to make some syn-free dips to have with potato wedges. Any good recipes anyone? Thanks.

hectich1979 · 23/03/2009 19:40

Total 100% greek yoghurt with grated cucumber, garlic and a few chopped spring onions make a wicked Tzatiki.

OR

Passata with finely chopped onions and herbs to make your own, non spicy Salsa.

1lb on this week for me, well it was mothers day!
Back to plan today so hoping for a loss this week.

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 21:45

I have got really off track the last week. Main cause is going out too much! When I am at home I have complete contrl, but went to my sisters for dinner one night, my mums another and went to FILs yesterday so just had what I was given which was not SW friendly!

Today I don't really have any excuse but have still gone over my syns I think. I stuck to it for meals but I didn't eat enough at dinner time so ate lots afterwards which is where the syns piled up.

Does anybody know how rolls fit in with HEb? I usually go for 400g loaf of wholemeal so can have 2 slices but I got some reduced rolls yesterday as a bargain so want to use them. They are the hovis wholemeal ones. I am hoping I can have 2 but thinking one might be more like it?

Is tinned spaghetti just free or is it superfree? I eat quite a lot of it. I eat loads of beans too which i know are really good but I vary it with spagetti depending on what we are having. DH doesn't like baked beans either.

Ceolas · 24/03/2009 08:57

Soon2be there's a list of HEs on the lifeline online website. Have you registered for that? Group password is burger this week.

rosieposey · 24/03/2009 09:13

Does anyone know of a good curry cook in sauce that is fairly low fat? Tesco used to them in their HE range - i always find that currys i cook from scratch are a bit bland and i wanted to buy a lower fat sharwoods one or something? Any ideas? Would be great if you could recommend one as im a massive curry fan and it'd save my diet on a Friday night!

rosieposey · 24/03/2009 09:26

Oh and how many syns bacon rasher crisps are? Ive checked everywhere online and cant seem to find the syn value . Thanks!

soon2befamilyof4 · 24/03/2009 12:50

Yes ceolas - I looked there but it was only slices and not rolls!

I want to make myself some lunch but always have the issue of having DD to deal with. She is too young to trust in a room on her own but our kitchen is too small to have her in there (no space for a highchair or anything in there!

hmmm, either a fry up or a jacket potato!

Anybody know if there is a way of buy bacon with no or little fat? I am finding by the time I have cut all the fat bits off it wastes most of it and I hardly end up with any bacon! And it ends up a mess instead of slices. And it takes ages instead of just quickly shoving in a frying pan!

Ceolas · 24/03/2009 12:59

I saw bacon in Asda that was just the top bit without the fatty stuff on the bottom. Not sure if it was completely clear of fat though.

Lost 3lbs this morning

soon2befamilyof4 · 24/03/2009 13:55

Well done Ceolas! I dont have an asda but will have a look in sainsburys and tesco!

ProfYaffle · 25/03/2009 13:21

Tesco do bacon like that in their healthy living range. I just cut off the big stripe of fat across the top, don't bother fiddling around with all the tiny bits.

soon2befamilyof4 · 25/03/2009 17:34

I eat loads of bacon though so think if I didn't cut it off I wouldn't loose anything. The bottom half always seems to be very fatty. I have ordered some of the Tesco healthy living one and also some value cooking bacon which is a hell of a lot cheaper and although it will still have the fat, I might not be so worried about wasting it all when it is costing about 80p for a big pack.

Anybody know if there are any cereal bars that are low syn or can be a HE? I am really struggling when I want to grab a quick brekkie on the go!

jenk1 · 25/03/2009 19:49

woo hoo 3 pound OFF for me at WI tonight!!!!!!!

applepudding · 25/03/2009 20:58

Hi everybody. Well done Jenk1 and Ceolas!

soon2be - alpen lite cereal bars are two for a healthy extra and they come in lots of different flavours. What I do sometimes is split my healthy extra b choice (I'm EE so I only get 1) and have 1 piece of bread, say with some baked beans and bacon for breakfast, then take one alpen lite bar in to work for a snack. I haven't read anything that says you can do that but I would assume that if you can have 2 slices of bread or 2 alpen lite bars then one of each is OK. Bread rolls are one small roll for a HE.

Re the bacon I just buy back bacon and cut the thick slice of fat across the top.

Rosieposey - I've been making a curry sauce based on a recipe in SW mag which I just made a little easier. Fry onion in fry light, add garlic, tbspoon medium curry powder, teaspoon coriander, tin tomatoes and a teaspoon of bovril. (The recipe said to add the bovril as stock but I found that made it a bit too liquid.) Then I just put in some cooked chicken adn chopped spinach but you could use whatever you wanted or some extra chillies. That's free with rice on extra easy and even DH enjoyed it!!

nikkid21 · 26/03/2009 17:00

Maintained this week. Not too bad considering that i've eaten a freddo frog nearly every day this week.

Am having chinese takeaway tonight but will then be ultra good for the rest of the week (maybe).

Deemented · 26/03/2009 20:02
