hi stillenacht. welcome

Looks like we're going to be a busy thread!

kslatts · 01/01/2009 09:50

I weighed myself this morning and weigh 19 stone and 3.5 pounds.

notbloodybranston · 01/01/2009 20:18

Hello - Can I join you?

Yesterday, I was late for a very posh wedding. The reason I was late was that the zip on my dress collapsed as my MIL and DH tried to pull it up. Hugely embarassing ad MIL was not meant to see the sights she then saw! Zip was mended but I spent the whole day and night messing around with very uncomfortable hold-you-in undies watching thin friends on the dance floor. Felt sorry for DH and ashamed.

I am 32, weigh about 16stone 8lbs and am a size 22/24. Would dearly love to be 11 stone again....

I've been fat since the age of 10 (very skinny child but when puberty hit early I expanded a stone a year). Have tried every diet under the sun from the conventional WW, Rosemary C, SW (lost 3 stone the put on 4 when I stopped) to India & Neris and currently Tescos.

Am off to read all of this thread (and previous one). But if anyone can recommend a diet a website or...anything at all please help as I can't go on getting bigger every year.

Sorry this is so long.

happynewRia · 01/01/2009 21:15

hey there notbloodybranston (interesting name?). come on in. we're a lovely bunch on this thread, no judging, just support. sorry for your day yesterday I am a size 24 bottom, 22/24 on top (though my lovely comfy ASDA PJs are a 24/26 and I love them). I am tall too, so feel massive, but hadn't realise how bad I looked til i saw some photos my Dad took in the summer.

these links might be useful - here here and here, they are all from Mnetters.

I am doing SW. Can't decide whether to go back to class because there is a new diet that sounds pretty interesting.

I want to lose weight before my parents get back from their holiday in March, and I would like to be wearing size 22 jeans (because I have about 20 pairs packed away that I can't wear - all stuff I've bought from charity shops thinking "they look massive" and then not being able to get them on) I would also like to be fit enough to do Pen'y'Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough this year when I go to the Dales (not all on the same trip though!)

RGPargy · 01/01/2009 23:51

Hi everyone! Happy new year!

Ria - sorry your NYE was pants. Thankfully DD went down about 10ish (i think?!!!) so we managed to get 2 hours of "me" time in before all the fireworks etc. Thankfully (and i have no idea how) they didn't wake DD at all - we were prepared for the worst when they were going off all over the place! As for my pictures, i think you must be looking at someone else's photos. I dont look good in ANY pictures, trust me! (me? take a compliment? NEVER! ). We are the same clothes size too, you and me, so if i look good, you must too!

Stillenacht - hello and welcome! Your name sounds German - do you have connections to Germany? DP's grandmother is German I'm also a yo-yo dieter, although over the last few years i seem to have lost my bounce as i've stayed up rather than go down!

Kslatts - we are similar in weight. I weighed myself yesterday and i was 18st 7lbs IIRC. At my last WW weigh in i was 18st 2lb so i've put on a fair whack over the last 4 weeks. Unfortunately for me i have had lots of Xmas lunches and dinners at work that i've had to attend - well, it'd be rude not to wouldn't it?!

Branston - hello and welcome! Loving the name, what's the story behind it? Sorry to hear about your zip episode. Sometimes we need these things to happen to us to give us the kick up the backside we so desperately want! My extra kick up the jacksy was going to the work's xmas party and seeing all the skinny secretaries having fun and there was me chair bound because my high heels were absolutely crucifying me. I've not worn heels for years and i'm convinced they kill my feet now because they are burdoned with an extra 7 stone of lard that they are not designed to take!

I'm going to have a big ebay splurge this weekend and stuck all my crap unwanted items up to see if they will sell. We have so much stuff that we dont use laying around the house. I would have chucked half of it but then i realised that people will actually pay money for it so as we're watching the pennies at the moment, it's time to see if i can actually MAKE some pennies rather than spend them!

Hope you've all had a nice day!

Hi! Boring story behind name. Surname is Pickles and each time I have been pregnant and people are suggesting names we always get "how about Branston? Ha ha ha". Jokes were at their height when I joined Mumsnet and were getting tiresome.

Off to have a look at SW again (husband rolling eyes as I vainly bounce between diets). Ho hum

Night ladies

notbloodybranston · 02/01/2009 00:11

Ria - thanks for the links btw

RGPargy · 02/01/2009 00:12

Ah, fair enough Branston! I can imagine it would get a bit boring after a while lol.

N'night!

Good morning, I have just found this thread can I sign up to it please .

I am going back to WW AGAIN, an hopefully am doing it online instead of trying to find time between 2 jobs and 3 children to go to a meeting.

I need to initially go to the first meeting to get up to date cookbooks and all the other bumph that goes with it. Until then hopefully I will eat sensibly.

I know my downfall, its the dreaded drink. I have been ill recently and have been drink free for a few days so hopefully its a step in the right direction. . I'd love to lose 2lb a week, Its definately acieveable. I'm meeting a friend in the summer for the first time (we met online) so I would like to be ALOT slimmer.

Good luck ladies

mrshammond · 02/01/2009 08:59

Hi all, I have been lurking on this thread for a while and have decided to jump in.

Was a skinny malink up until about age 16 then weight crept up a bit until having DD (10 yrs ago) and has continued to rise ever since.

In September I weighed 17 stone. Have been going to WW for about 2 years but never really made the effort. Had a bit of a break through in November and have managed to lose 10 pounds. Only gained 1 pound over christmas and now feel back on track.

Am terrified of losing the impetus as has happened coutless times before. Also have a serious fear of diabetes so am hoping that will motivate me.

DH also now joined WW so is a bit easier with a buddy!

I am feeling determined but have a mental block about exercise. I think I was born lazy! {blush]

happynewRia · 02/01/2009 17:18

quite understand branston.

have walked 5 miles today and only eaten toast for b/fast and fruit (the snack bag of graped from tesco after the walk were the best thing I have ever eaten)

bugger, still have to get the shopping out of the car.

hopefully no fireworks tonight, the boys should sleep after all the sea air and exercise.

AuntieMaggie · 02/01/2009 17:29

Hi everyone.

Can I join you? I need to lose at least 5 stone but am more concerned with getting back down to a 14 from a 20.

I'm all set to start dieting and exercising from Monday - except there's still loads of Xmas food in the house cos I've been ill over Xmas and New year and everything tastes rubbish! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for feeling better by Monday.

I think I'm going to try SW as I lost a fair bit of weight with them before and find the plan quite easy.

I'm also due to go back to my GP at the end of the month to reduce the dosage on some of my meds so hopefully that will help too!

notbloodybranston · 02/01/2009 18:18

Good luck at GPs Auntie Maggie and well bloomin' done on the walk Ria! MrsH - I think it's fab that your husband has joined - it always helps me if my DH joins as well but unfortunately/fortunately he kept the weight off after our last diet...Hello Shineyshoes - have always struggled at WW but not done it for years (been more of a SW girl) so might go and look at their website.

I have emailed a personal trainer. We can't really afford it but have persuaded husband that the extent of my misery is worth one session per week as long as I put my heart and soul into diet/walking/swimming. Am justifying it by pointing out we have kids therefore no social life except inviting mates to watch DVDs and I can't go clothes shopping because size 22s are rare at the Trafford Centre.

Off to try and register for Manchester 10KM in May which will just be a long walk but at least will get me moving.

Sorry for rambling - baby is playing on floor and is making his way to plug so am just speedramble

happynewRia · 02/01/2009 18:31

am actually knackered branston. and want chocolate! (only because I have loads of tisying to do - we left the house in a rush this morning for DH to go to A&E for an x-ray as his arm wouldn't move (he has a long-standing shoulder problem) so I have all the washing up and stuff to do now that I didn't get done this morning. DH is sleeping due to the meds he was given.
I would love an hour of me time in my PJs with a glass of wine and my book...

RGPargy · 02/01/2009 23:26

Shinyshoes, MrsHammond and AuntieMaggie - hello and welcome! I'm also a member of WW but haven't been since the beginning of December. I'm dreading going back because i've had nothing but work lunches, dinners, parties and general Xmas foodage to contend with since the end of November! My downfall is also booze. I'm a sucker for a glass or two of wine most nights and that's the main thing that stops me losing weight! Good luck to you all!

I seriously want to get back into the habit of exercising too but it's just sooooo hard!

ok, this food thing isn't going well

RGPargy · 03/01/2009 13:33

Join the club Ria!

It all starts on monday for me. 2 days of luxury food eating left!!

OP posts:
bran · 03/01/2009 13:52

Hi everyone. Welcome newbies.

RG - I have a big pile of clothes in the corner of my bedroom that I feel guilty about everytime I see them. I'm sorry I've been too lazy busy to sort them out and send them to you. I find the whole run up to Christmas thing a bit over-whelming, plus we went away for over a week to my parents so clothes just keep dropping down my list of priorities. DS is back in school on Monday so I'll be able to get myself a bit more together once that happens.

I've put on 1kg over Christmas, which isn't too bad really. I'm planning to start walking again as it seems to be the tipping point between staying the same weight and losing weight. I haven't lost very much at all since DS changed school and I had to start doing the school run by car. There is a lovely park near his school so I intend to drop him off and walk for 30-40 mins before driving home again every weekday morning.

NBB, I have a personal trainer and it's made a huge difference to my fitness levels. Although there's a lot you can do yourself (dvds, going to the gym, walking/running) it's much more productive when there is someone who really knows what he's doing tailoring exercises to strengthen your weak points.

happynewRia · 03/01/2009 14:04

I am thinking i might as well make the most of the weekend and try and shift all the things that are left that I like (also if I'm being nice to DH then I deserve a treat!) Monday is a good day to start, I was being unrealistic tot hink otherwise (just wanted a head start on dsis)

Hi bran!

wonder how pink is doing?

RGPargy · 03/01/2009 21:18

Hi Bran Really, dont feel guilty about the clothes!! Just in your own time, it's no bother! Just let me know how much the postage is and i'll paypal you. 1kg isn't bad at all over christmas! Well done!

Ria - Monday is always a good day to start!

OP posts:
happynewRia · 03/01/2009 21:34

every Monday RG

no walk to day. too blimmin cold. went back to bed instead when DS3 had his nap

RGPargy · 03/01/2009 22:06

You're allowed to have a nap when your kids do! Especially as it's still officially Christmas lol.

shinyshoes · 04/01/2009 19:35

Right diet officially starts tomorrow Monday is always a popular day to start a diet isnt it

I'm about to look online where there is a ww club near me, I'm on a 12 hour shift tomorrow so my tea break 1 1/2 hours will be spent at a WW meeting.

Its time for me to get on track starting tomorrow.

How has everyone else got on this weekend??

happynewRia · 04/01/2009 19:39

hi shinyshoes. I decided to write off the weekend, didn't even get out for a walk again

Have to confess to looking forward to the kids going back to school (tomorrow and Tuesday)

I am looking for a SW class that I can go to without the kids, but don't know DHs shifts yet. you are dedicated spending your breask at WW

I really want to do better this time!

shinyshoes · 04/01/2009 19:44

Me too Ria, I have spent the last year or 3 being quite lazy about it, but enoughs enough if I started this when I was supposed to 3 years ago, I'd be tiny now

I have looked online and there is a WW meeting near my place of work at 6.30pm which is just right for me going there and then coming back and watching EastEnders .

Its about a mile away so I will probably walk there and back as well.
