Ria, you can start off doing press-ups against a wall. Stand arm's length from the wall with your hands flat on the wall at or just below shoulder level, lean forward and push back. Most of your weight will still be on your feet that way. If it's easy for the first few and a big effort for the last few in each set of 15 then you're at about the right level. To make it harder or easier shuffle your feet back or forward a few inches.

It's a long process, I started exercising in April and the boob improvement was only noticable in November, but so much cheaper and less painful than a boob job. I was lying in bed on my back at the weekend pointing out to DH that my norks were still on my chest and not in my armpits. I'm classy, a real lady.

PC, let us know how you get on with the Wii. I visited a friend before Christmas and I loved playing with her Wii and Wii Fit, but I'm not sure whether I would use one on my own. I suspect I need that competitive edge of playing against a real person to keep me going. I'm debating whether to get one for my birthday at the end of Feb but I don't want it to sit there unused.

I did my walk today after the school drop off so I'm feeling quite energised. I really love this weather (I know, I'm a bit weird). Between 5C and -5C seems to be my ideal temperature range so long as it's dry. Below -5C my teeth tend to ache with the cold and above 5C I start to get sweaty and uncomfortable on a fast walk. I should probably move to a mountainous country, when summer comes I could go up high where it's cool and then in winter I could move back down, and so long as I was living on the West side of the mountain it would be fairly dry. Montana/Colorado would be ideal I think, or perhaps the Spanish Sierra Navada.

shinyshoes · 06/01/2009 11:38

I'm hungry, I thought I was thirsty so had a glass of diet coke , free on a WW

But It's still there, the hunger.

bran · 06/01/2009 11:48

How many points do you have to play with? Could you have carrots batons or something to fill you up (I'm pretty sure they're zero points).

shinyshoes · 06/01/2009 11:56

I have 12 points to play with. Not alot. I haven't been shopping so my fridge is low on low point/zero point food, I have a couple of delicious looking quiches

I must get myself more organised. I'm off to Tesco later when hubby wakes up so I will grab a load of snacky things I think. I need to consult the 'free' foods list.

I must tell myself that it will all be worth it in the end.

must also look up the recipe for 0 point tom soup as well.

moan moan whinge whinge I know

bran · 06/01/2009 12:18

I don't suppose you have any popcorn? I seem to remember it's quite low points if made without oil and very filling.

When I did WW I used to make a load to zero points veg curry and freeze it in portions then I could bung it in the microwave. WW didn't work that well for me though, apparently it's not great for women with PCOS. I'm finding low GI easier.

caykon · 06/01/2009 12:19

Is it still ok to join you. My weight has gone out of control over the past 18 months and I need to do something.

Currently I am 16st 9 1/2 lbs, 5ft 6 and a size 16/18

I started yesterday officially, and did well plus walked up and down hill for dd's playgroup and went to the gym in the evening.

Would love the support of others with the same battle

shinyshoes · 06/01/2009 12:19

Sorted, I have just done

2 cloves of garlic.
1 onion
tin of tomatoes
spinach
2 veg stock cubes
1/4 orange pepper
1/4 red pepper
pepper.

parsley and basil once its cooked.

blended in the magic bullet. I have put it on to thicken it tastes divine and all for 0 points. WOOHOO.

me and baby will share it, she will have hers over pasta though.

I am right in thinking that is ZERO points aren't I??

bran · 06/01/2009 12:22

Welcome Caykon.

That sounds delicious SS, and it is zero points as far as I remember.

shinyshoes · 06/01/2009 12:22

Bran I do have popcorn yes, I forgot about that. The children have a popcorn maker too. I like lots of salt on mine. I will bear that in mnd if I get hungry later

Caykon. Welcome

We all need support, at the moment i'm struggling as I'm new to WW again . This is day one, obviously it will get easier once I get sorted and organised.

Good luck.

happynewRia · 06/01/2009 14:42

hello. welcome to everyone

been to town (birthday present shopping) parked up on the top cliff (where it's free) and walked into town, down a steep hill so good for the arms? was out and about 2 hours, so maybe just over an hours decent walking (and quite a lot of dithering), only fruit for lunch - seems to refresh me more after a walk.

I'm with you on this temp for walking bran - I need a bit of a nip in the air or a breeze to stop me going puce! Might try the wall pushups tonight if I can't manage anything else.

Off to warm up and hide b'day prezzies...

happynewRia · 06/01/2009 19:23

OK, am in day two danger area now, but coping so far. Why is day two harder than day one?

bran · 06/01/2009 19:39

Ria, I was reading something ages ago about lifestyle changes and there is a certain number of times that you have to repeat doing something before it stops being a 'chore' and starts being part of your daily routine and you don't even think about it anymore. I can't remember the number of times, but the theory is good. Certainly when I started going to the gym I made a conscious decision to go at the same times every week for that reason and now it's just normal to me, like brushing my teeth. I still whinge a lot when I'm at the gym, but I don't feel like cancelling before I've even started anymore.

So day 2 is worse than day 1, and as the enthusiasm wears off it'll probably continue to get worse, but if you stick at it then one day it'll be less effort, and the day after that a bit less still.

Of course, if I had ever been able to stick to healthy habits come rain or shine I wouldn't be in the state I'm in now, so obviously it's not as easy to do as it is to write down.

happynewRia · 06/01/2009 21:35

Nothing is Bran

I made the mistake of not eating enough today. When it came to tea I didn't have in the cupboard what I thought I had (I always have in fact), so have slipped up a little off plan, but as I walked miles and have eaten almost "neutral" I think I should be ok so long as I'm good tomorrow. Am not stressing anyway, so that's half the battle won.

It is DS2s birthday on Thursday. We are making chocolate cake tomorrow. I will have to have one small slice on the big day

RGPargy · 06/01/2009 22:39

hi everyone!

Blimey, it's been busy in here today hasn't it!

Well, i've had a crap 2 days. yesterday was weigh in day so it was kinda my treat day (although i had previously decided i wasn't going to have a treat day anymore because i just go stupid on it) and then today i started off ok until my friend came round unexpectedly and ended up bringing cakes. Before tea i only had 3 points left so i thought bugger it and did a hugely fattening pasta & cheese sauce.

Still, i'm back at work tomorrow so will be going to the gym at lunchtime. My new sports bra arrived in super quick time - i only ordered it yesterday - so i cant wait to wear it and put it through it's paces. I jumped up and down in it a few times when i tried it on and the only thing that bounced was my flab () so i think it should be ok lol.

Hi Caykon, welcome

Think i will try those mushrooms and that zero point soup. I really need stuff like that that i can graze on if/when i want to.

Off to sort out sarnies etc for lunch tomorrow for DP. Have a nice evening girlies!

WW weigh in today - first once since beofore holidays.

Am hoping that going back to weekly weigh in will boost my enthusiasm.

Zero point soup does sound nice, especailly like the idea of adding pasta for DCs, my DS will love it.

happynewRia · 07/01/2009 09:41

what make of bra did you buy RG. I like the idea of a no-bounce bra.

Right, plan for today, MAJOR housework (am waiting for DH to go to work so I can start moving furniture), I have savoury rice for lunch and probably a SW potato gratin type thingy (that I have yet to make) for tea. grapes, oranges, apples and bananas all present and correct...

good luck!

bran · 07/01/2009 10:36

I use this bra. It's not completely no bounce, but it's good enough for gym stuff as I don't run. The straps are great as you can adjust them when the bra is on. Front-fastening is the way to go IMO, it has to be tight to function well and tight bras are a nightmare to do up at the back.

I also have an Enell bra which is completely bounce free, and slightly breathing-free too. I'm thinking about ordering another one of these so that I don't have to wash my bras so often.

I have a back-fastening one that I use if the other two are in the wash, but it's a real faff putting it on as I have to do up the hooks at the front and twirl it around, the straps are fairly uncomfortable too.

happynewRia · 07/01/2009 11:01

thanks bran. bras are a nightmare. I was thinking of going to Sadie the Bra Lady when I've lost a stone or so... I don't seem to measure what I fit IYSWIM. How are the ample bosom ones size wise? (is their sizing guide good?)

It seems I have not buggered the computer this time (I usually do when I move the furniture). bloody cabinet wouldn't fit in the alcove it used to go it though

does anyone know anything about mould? or should I start a thread? I found some behind the cabinet that has never been there before. is it atmospheric or is it because of our new loft insulation? The bathroom mould has been worse since the insulation

RGPargy · 07/01/2009 11:51

Morning ladies.

So far so good today lol. I've had a bag of twiglets for breakfast as i didn't have time to have breakfast before i left for work this morning I have a pot of couscous for lunch at the ready, as well as some nice red grapes. I'm starving already tho. I hope i can resist the vending machines today!

The bra i bought is THIS ONE which i am going to test out today hopefully.

Mould - i dont know much but i think you have to keep the affected rooms well ventilated. Best to start another thread i reckon. "The Powers That Be" (i.e. Mumsnet ) will surely know the answer/solution.
