Welcome ladies of the Due August 2008 thread. Today is your day to begin REDEFINING your Post-Baby Body.

Please take a moment to STATE your SHORT TERM goal(s) and to STATE your LONG TERM goal(s) for overall health. This may include a weight you would like to reach, a fitness level you would like to attain, or size you would like to fit into.

I ask that you post at least twice a week. First to state what you plan to do during the week to reach your above goal(s). Then an end of the week post to let us know how you faired. BE HONEST! This is a SUPPORT THREAD so if you didn't find time to run a mile, admit it. Maybe someone else did the same and needs a running partner...thus a MEET-UP a might solve the problem. If you went above and beyond your expectations for the week, tell us and be an inspiration.

Now let's get started.

I can gleefully announce my return to the hockey pitch . I went training last night for an hour and sweated like a good un, so hopefully done some good.

Jelly belly still in full effect though, I have a paunchy little muffin top effect going on . Although I have to say, it is a little less wobbly than it was a fortnight ago. Yay!

TwilightSurfer · 09/10/2008 11:18

WOW!! You all are inspirations in the GET OUT AND WORK OUT departments. With all my CSec or just hip issues (i haven't a clue which is really the problem) I feel like my workout attempts have been squashed. Knowing you all aren't having any problems really shines the light on my complaints, making me feel better about seeking out the orthopedic in spite of my OB/GYN's instructions.

I WILL FEEL BETTER!!!!
I WILL BE WORKING OUT SOON!!!

{{{{shakes pom poms}}}}
GREAT JOB LADIES!!!

I did feel dizzy running around though, despite having eaten an hour before training. Hmm. Had plenty of water. I think maybe I should have taken a banana with me for extra energy?

How about this for motivation? Whilst collecting ds1 from nursery yesterday, I had ds2 in his car seat. One of the mums said to me "please tell me you haven't just had that baby - look how slim you are!" I could have kissed her. SO my mission from now on is to tell every new mom I see how great I think she looks - FAB MOTIVATION and a huge pick-me-up

LADIES - YOU ALL LOOK FAB!!!!

VintageGardenia · 09/10/2008 13:16

V impressed CC at the hockey (would love to play again, I used to), well done!

And TS v. impressed by your generosity of spirit, I must say.

Slow cookers will investigate, have dept. store voucher but was considering buying a really beautiful pair of glossy boots...

Walked this morning 2 miles but have also eaten banana bread, drunk v fatty coffees etc...

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 09/10/2008 15:20

hi all.
I have walked half way to play group this morning.
drove half way. just in case new pram was a disaster.
Arms were burning though,pushing the two heavy lumps.
I made sure i parked car bottom of steep hill.

TwilightSurfer · 09/10/2008 18:31

Well no help for the hurting. Saw not my usual ortho doc this morning. He looked at my xrays, made me move around a bit, pushed on me in a few places then said....you need to see your regular doc. Somebody needs to have a chit-chat with the scheduler!!!

The funny part is how he totally did the "i don't have a clue" thing. Apparently he handles hip/leg issues ONLY and has NO experience with lower spine/hip/leg issues. What's that song we all learned in preschool...the leg bone's connected to the hip bone...

OP posts:
CaptainCaveman · 09/10/2008 21:08

lol Ts, perhaps he nodded off in Doctor school when they covered the spine?

dizzywitches · 10/10/2008 17:03

this had fallen off my 'thread am on' list sorry guys

did I mention I'd lost 33lbs!?

stuffed into some size 18 pre preggy jeans today with a rather unattractive overhang but its a start

whats the chat about London then or are you going to make me read back through all I've missed?!?

My goal for this week is
Walking and drinking more water.
I have 3 playgroups planned for this week and plan on walking to them all
Hope for sunshine... ok will change that to hope for no rain.

I am going to try and pretend that my car does not work.

Dh is also off all week so will try to get back in the gym.
Any advice tips for CORRECT abdominal workouts greatly recieved.

oopsacoconut · 12/10/2008 12:39

Hi all

I'm here to confess I fell off the wagon last week then the Wii didn't help by claiming I had put on 5lbs on Weds since the night before and another 3 by Weds dinnertime???? So will NOT use Wii to weigh myself at random times - the same time every 4 days. I have managed some Wii yoga and toning.

MY BIG news for the week is I have a session booked with my personal trainer for Wednesday at 12. I cannot get out of it as MIL has agreed to look after DD (across the road from the gym in a cafe!)andI already paid him. I need a plan for working my seperated abdo muscles and general toning.

Going out on a big walk up and down the canal today.

6 week check tomorrow and then we are all go for swimming too.

TwilightSurfer · 12/10/2008 21:06

very preoccupied today trying to catch up with last week's television shows (before dizzy mentions what happened on ugly betty)

will properly catch up tomorrow............however I DID meet all goals just don't know what my new ones are

VintageGardenia · 13/10/2008 11:03

Hi guys quick one from me

  1. Drink 2 litres of water every day YES
  2. Drink fresh juice for brekker YES
  3. Walk every day with the pram minimum half an hour 5 DAYS
  4. Do pelvic floors NO!
  5. Swim 3 times this week - minimum 20 lengths per session, optimum would be 30 lengths. NO

I have lost 1.5 lbs, not exactly going down a dress size, but going in the right direction!

This week Monday to Monday goals are:

  1. Drink 2 litres of water every day
  2. Drink fresh juice for brekker
  3. Walk every day with pram minimum half an hour.
  4. Do one two-hour walk with pram.
  5. Do pelvic floors.
  6. Go to aquarobic session Tue pm.

My goals are very small but at least I'll get the satisfaction of checking something off next week.

Bon courage to you all.

VintageGardenia · 13/10/2008 11:05

And that walkjogrun site seems to be down so can't map out my 2 hour walk which I've planned for this morning. Anyone know of any other distance plotter sort of site? Or if you can measure distances on Google Earth perhaps?

oopsacoconut · 13/10/2008 11:55

VG - I use mapmyrun.com for my usual running but it is great for buggying too

VintageGardenia · 13/10/2008 20:15

OK I walked 6.44 miles today!

Might have overdone it slightly (was very uphill and had pram and very worn runners) but feel virtuous. If anyone wants to see a photo of the view I had while walking (see profile) they will understand how I was able to keep going! Truly tis more beautiful than the Bay of Naples .

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 13/10/2008 21:08

vg wow at 6.44 miles well done you thats great.
wow at the photo that looks stunning.

TwilightSurfer · 14/10/2008 03:24

Dizzy, your weight loss is wonderful news. {{{shakes pom poms furiously}}}

No1, good plan for the week. Keep us posted on how returning to the gym goes.

Oops, you've got some really nice things lined up for this week. I'll say it again...DO NOT WATCH THE NUMBERS DAILY. Poop, water retention and a many other factors cause your weight to rise and fall daily. You want to get the average over a period of time....it's more accurate and less stressing. Can't wait to hear about the personal trainer!!

VG, 1.5lbs in a week is PERFECT. 2lbs per week is the healthy average. Your goals are wonderful and achievable. Good luck! Oh, and EXCELLENT walk!!! {{{cartwheel}}}

OH and I'm sorry to have been MIA for a few days. I think I'm hormonal or something but I'm having trouble focusing on tasks....

I think I have however pushed myself and helped my leg rehab some. It feels stronger now than it did a week ago.

BEST WISHES to everyone.
Have a wonderfully healthy week.

Whoops, this had also dropped off my Threads list Didn't have a great week last week in terms of junk food consumption, but doing better this week. Going for our 6 week check at some point too, so hopefully will be cleared for swimming and Buggyfit

TwilightSurfer · 14/10/2008 09:42

Cyteen, glad we are back on your list. Better luck this week.

oooh Cyteen we are buggyfitting on Thursday - Will let you know how it goes!

sambo303 · 14/10/2008 11:47

Hi Ladies - it's taken me quite a long time to pluck up the courage to visit this thread. Guess I really thought 9 months of cake eating would melt off me once DS arrived. But, nearly 6 weeks after birth I have to admit I am unable to fit into any of my pre preg clothes by a large margin.

I read the whole thread yesterday and consequently refused DP's offer of maltesers last night [smug emoticon]

Also went for lengthy buggy walk - got off bus 1 mile from home.

Today, planning another long walk with my heavy silver cross.

Got 6 week check on Thursday so will try to get weighed there (don't keep scales in the house as bad for morale)
just to get an idea of the scale of the effort involved.

My plan is:
try to eat healthily, keeping fingers crossed for magic effect of BF;
bit of walking every day;
swimming once DS is also on bottles so my mum can babysit him - I love swimming, got up at 6am to swim before work most days for last 10 years;
attend weekly post natal exercise class at local hospital;
pelvic floor thingies (i am hopeless at remembering these - trying post-its on TV and PC to remind self)

ps I am very impressed by everyone on this thread - it's not easy!
