Welcome ladies of the Due August 2008 thread. Today is your day to begin REDEFINING your Post-Baby Body.

Please take a moment to STATE your SHORT TERM goal(s) and to STATE your LONG TERM goal(s) for overall health. This may include a weight you would like to reach, a fitness level you would like to attain, or size you would like to fit into.

I ask that you post at least twice a week. First to state what you plan to do during the week to reach your above goal(s). Then an end of the week post to let us know how you faired. BE HONEST! This is a SUPPORT THREAD so if you didn't find time to run a mile, admit it. Maybe someone else did the same and needs a running partner...thus a MEET-UP a might solve the problem. If you went above and beyond your expectations for the week, tell us and be an inspiration.

Now let's get started.

I'm back.....

Well sort of, I need to start controlling the uncontrollable munchies so that when the meds start working I don't blow up like a balloon.

So from tomorrow - no more sweets/choc/cakes/cookies/bread, no eating after 8pm, 3 proper meals a day and fruit/veg sticks as snacks, lots and lots of water.

Was watching the truth about dieting on BBC1 tonight and their tips were:

When eating fatty food have something low fat dairy with it, apparently the calcium bnids to the fat and it passs straight out.

Soup is more filling and keeps hunger at bay better than solid food and a drink.

High protein food keeps hunger at bay longer than carb laden food.

My good intentions have been thwarted by circumstance this week - planned to go swimming on thursday night but came down with the cold from hell. however, they have also been thwarted by me and my lack of willpower (2 bits of cake on friday as i hadn't managed to have lunch ) so i'm not making excuses.

this week:

swimming on thursday (it's even been planned into the meal plan for this week!)
healthy meal plan has been written for the week and will be stuck to
smaller portions - i'm going to try eating off a smaller plate to see if that helps (portion sizes are my downfall)
lots and lots of water - at least that's one area I did well in this week
quite an important one, this: make sure I have a healthy lunch/snack available each day. Rushing about trying to get meals together for DS often means I don't manage to sort myself out with anything better than random bowls of cereal, and then I end up thinking 'ooh, I'm hungry, I'll just treat myself to a croissant on the way into town, I deserve it' etc. I would actually prefer to have healthy food available so I don't buy crap, so I'm going to try and make sure I sort something out every night ready for the next day.
10 minutes of brisk skipping in the garden Monday and Tuesday mornings while DS is asleep

I shall be briskly walking into town and back at least four days next week, so that's another thing to feel positive about.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE!!!!!

This wasn't even on my threads I'm on, which is bad, though I suppose I was away for 5 days.

OK I haven't gained anything while away which is a result considering how much I ate and drank but I haven't lost now for a week so I have to get cracking again. I spent a fortune on blueberries, strawbs, peaches etc yesterday and the peaches were all rotten when I opened em. Grrr. Thanks a mill for your recipes! I am delighted & v inspired and want salmon with salsa verde tonight! Yum.

We have to keep going.

Your loss is SUPERB sazzles, really brilliant.

We are so much thinner than we were two weeks ago!

Poor Sazzles having to join another support thread as we've all buggered off You are doing absolutely brilliantly though, well done! Can you feel it yet - clothes looser/slightly less wobbly-feeling?

Will do my best to keep coming on here, I do think about it a lot and am trying to eat healthily although don't have much time for exercise at the moment with all the driving lessons.

I have virtually given up eating bread apart from at lunch if necessary (if there's nowt else to eat), am not snacking or having supper after DC are in bed, tomorrow I will be hopefully implementing my no crisps rule as DH and I usually get through a tube of Pringles or a big bag of Doritos while glugging sipping booze and watching telly. I am not giving up my wine though

Feeling quite virtuous actually, my weight has deffo gone down a bit. I must sop weighing myself after every wee though . Friday morning is my weigh-in and then I'll have to let DH hide the scales.

That's why I've chosen Friday as my official weigh-in day Sazzles, so I have all week to make up for the weekend 8lb for you is absolutely fantastic, well done. I guess eating grapefruit for breakfast does have some compensation!

Well I have got on the scales and in two weeks I have lost...4lb! I am really pleased with that as haven't skimped really on evening meal (eg last night had veggie chilli but with cheesy dumplings), just not eating all the extra calorie laden stuff like cheese out of the packet. One more pound and I will only be overweight

Sazzles are you a bit less tall than me then? You don't come across as a short-arse I'm 5'7" and think I need to be 13 9lb to be overweight. You know really it's all bollocks though don't you. The amount of swimming and walking you do means you must have good muscle tone, which means you weigh more than someone the same size as you but just flabby (eg me) but you are actually already healthier. There is also some research showing that an 'overweight' person is actually statistically less likely to die than a 'healthy' one see this article on spiked I have also read that it is better to be fat and active than thin and sedentary, and yo-yo dieting is the very worst thing of all. So we'd better make sure we keep it off

Now would probably not be a good time to admit I'll be drinking mojitos tonight...

But that just proves my theory of BMI being a crock of shit! I will be not obese in 1 pound, however I have got some size 18 clothes that are still a weeny bit too tight, whereas you are size 14-16 and supposedly obeser (made-up word) than me . Bollocks!

Perhaps a more sensible way to think about it would be on dress size so 6-8 underweight, 10-12 ideal 14-16 overweight 18-20 lardarse. See I have dropped you a category already

Really I don't think it matters how much you actually weigh, it's just a handy way of measuring progress. What should be more important is how you feel about your body and whether you are satisfied with what you see in the mirror. I am sickened by my flabby arms, double tummy, wobbly bum and massive thighs, but finally I think I might actually do something about it rather than moaning and reaching for the cake. Time will tell but this internet sharing malarkey is definitely a good incentive!
