Welcome ladies of the Due August 2008 thread. Today is your day to begin REDEFINING your Post-Baby Body.

Please take a moment to STATE your SHORT TERM goal(s) and to STATE your LONG TERM goal(s) for overall health. This may include a weight you would like to reach, a fitness level you would like to attain, or size you would like to fit into.

I ask that you post at least twice a week. First to state what you plan to do during the week to reach your above goal(s). Then an end of the week post to let us know how you faired. BE HONEST! This is a SUPPORT THREAD so if you didn't find time to run a mile, admit it. Maybe someone else did the same and needs a running partner...thus a MEET-UP a might solve the problem. If you went above and beyond your expectations for the week, tell us and be an inspiration.

Now let's get started.

Flipping heck I have not posted on here since 12 March

I'm afraid all my good intentions went out of the window after my birthday and I'm finding it hard to remotivate myself.

I also weigh 14 stone. On the one hand this is good because I was about 17 10 before DS was born and just over 14 when I got pregnant but I can feel it all hanging around me like a thick layer of blubber. So what have I done today? Eat my own bodyweight in buns. Grrrrr

Target to lose 2.5 stone.

Initial target 2lb per week.

How I will achieve this...feck knows or maybe Gin

Will think about exercise and come back tomorrow. Someone shout at me please...

VintageGardenia · 21/05/2009 10:13

Come on then hotpot, get your arse in gear. You feel the way we do, the time has come, let's do it. When you wake up tomorrow you will have started yesterday... ifswim . We're all going for a similar loss, it's possible, and we will feel AMAZING!!

Water water water.
Sensible eats, and shake your booty.

Sazz I'm so sorry you had a walk for nothing! 2 miles is good though . I have sick ds1 today so no exercise here today but I've had a good brekker and am delighted with idea of lots of grilled tomatoes & mushrooms for my weekend brekker.

Gosh I am practically on the pom-pom route .

hotterpotter · 21/05/2009 21:35

Thanks VG

I can't go down the massive salad route, don't have the shopping budget but I am cutting bread to 2 slices max, no second breakfasts, no suppers except fruit, and padding out meals with veggies. I will be drinking loads of water and trying to up my exercise again. It's harder now that DS is not napping early afternoon so he gets bored in the pushchair/sling after a while, but I will have to use his morning nap for something more constructive than mning

VintageGardenia · 22/05/2009 15:21

HP I assume you mean it would be an extra budget because you have to spend existing budget on food for entire family to eat & the salady stuff would be only for you & rest of family would make retching noises when they saw it? It is like that in this house too. I do feel bad for effectively doing two shops - one for me, one for them - and dp did say surely losing weight would be saving us money so I was forced to give him one of pf's Paddington stares.

Today's Top Tip:
NEVER GO HUNGRY

When you let yourself go hungry and try to continue with normal day to day stuff you suddenly get the bread shakes where you seize sandwiches out of the paws of passersby and so on.

So don't try and starve yersel twill backfire.

Greetings ladies, now that I'm back online I thought I should come back and check in as I am in need of some anti-flab action. Snacking is my enemy I'm still walking everywhere but can only assume I'd be the size of a house if I stopped. My tummy is so poky-out I actually contemplated buying a pregnancy test yesterday

SO I am starting my goals small but realistically - drink more water (actually have been better about this this week), walk up to the leisure centre on Thursday nights for ladies-only swimming. I have also been trying to buy a sports bra so I can start jogging and/or having a morning skip out in the backyard, but nowhere has had my size So that's on next week's agenda.

VintageGardenia · 23/05/2009 09:03

LOL I can't believe I am giving advice on eating.

According to Paul McKenna when you think you are hungry quite often you are thirsty so drink a few good slugs of water and wait a few minutes and see how you feel. Now he also says dieting is a disaster - his main points are

  1. Start to realise when you are ACTUALLY hungry
  2. When you are hungry EAT

But when he says eat he means eat a small amount until you are not hungry - not defrost risotto for four and keep eating it till you feel ill, which is what I would normally do have done. So it's about tapping into your body's signals, reading them, eating slowly, stopping eating far earlier than you would normally.

Anyway - best snacks I think are bananas (so filling) or something like sundried tomatoes (not the jar ones which are so soft, but the deli counter ones which have a good chew factor and are tasty too). Dried apricots etc I use too (chew factor again) but they do contain a good bit of sugar. I think if I am going totally free of spud, rice, pasta and bread I can have a shagging spoonful of sugar though . I also have a lunchbox with mixed nuts, coconut shavings, etc, stuff from the healthfood shop mixed up like trailmix. I know nuts are not a thinning food but they're good for you aren't they???

cyteen the best sports bra you can get imho is the Shock Absorber which seems to be in most high street sports places .

TwilightSurfer · 25/05/2009 17:15

VG, Sazzles, HP & Cyteen you are all nicely on your way. Food is such a wild and crazy thing. Whenever you feel a bit hungry but you KNOW you really aren't, stick a piece of cinnamon flavored gum in your mouth and go to town. Cinnamon has properties which curb cravings and the action of chew gum tricks you into thinking you've done the deed.

HP think outside the box where salads are concerned and maybe they can be affordable after all. Conventional salads are a lettuce base with mixed veggies on top. An unconventional salad could be beans, tomatoes, corn and cold grilled chicken (from the night before) drizzled with your favorite oil/vinegar dressing. OR a bowl of crumbled cornbread topped with pinto beans and onions. OR pasta topped with broiled aparagus & cherry tomatoes drizzled with olive oil, salt and pepper. The ideas are endless.

Exercise is KEY in any reformation project. If you can't find time or money to go see a fancy gym or trainer...turn to YouTube and typed in 10 minute workout. Do the workout. Check off 10 minutes of exercise for the day. Another idea is to MOVE IT OUTSIDE. Sazzles is on the right track walking down the lane. The out of doors is a mood booster thus giving you what you need get the blood flowing!!!

Remember you are all BEAUTIFUL. The number on the scale is only for recording keeping purposes. At this rate you all will be where you want in a very short time.

LOVE YOU!!

Thanks TS you are a total saint.

I am a bit fed up as I would appear to have lost nothing lately, fedupfedupfedup.

Re. salads this is a good one:

1 x tin mixed beans (this is only about a quid)

Then put whatever you like - chopped parsley, garlic, chives, whatever you have in the bottom of the fridge or on your kitchen windowsill - and you can use a French dressing or whatever you like. It's really nice.

Couscous is quite a good salad base too, cook it in a bit of stock and then put in chopped whatever you've got - cukes, toms, raisins, whatever.

agua, agua, as the Sesame Street desert-crawlers used to pant

Sazzles that's a loss, that's going down, that's a result in my book! Well done. It's hard when you're out & about, it's amazing how often food comes up and how frequently it would appear rude to refuse - I've had that a couple of times this week, maybe explains my non-budging scales.

Yes to lime juice and chili and coriander!! Yum yum. It's great that spicy yummy stuff is absolutely guilt free and delish.

In fact another brill cooking method is stir-fry, nearly as good as a salad and sometimes more meal-like, tiny bit of oil and any veg you fancy with garlic & chili & soy & either splash of hoisin or oyster sauce or whatever. Lovely glossy, crunchy, tempting veg.

VG please don't feel fed up. Are you weighing at the same time everyday? After you poop?? Is it CD20-30?? Remember you body goes through it's own processes each day and each month. If you pick one specific time each day then that will solve the daily issue. Pre or Post poop might cause the scales to tip one way or the other. You'd be amazed at how much of our weight is just plain old poop. Cycle days 20 to 30 are fluid filled days so you might feel as if you're not loosing or are platueing during those days but it's all just fluid. Remember you are doing an excellent job just being here, documenting your process, and reassessing your goals daily. {{{hugs}}}

Sazzles you and VG both have really good salad ideas!!!

Aw thanks TS. I do weigh the same time, first thing in the morning. I'm not sure what CD I am on - might try & calculate that, I think I held on to a couple of pounds last month all right.

I have my brother's wedding on Saturday so wouldn't mind being an ok shape for that... all those blimmin photos!

I'm here SazzleDazzle!

Fantastic reports from you on water, pilates and eating fronts! Well done.

Thanks so much for posting those to me, too, and braving the postlady to do it .

What news from here - am drinking well - rather unpleasant lunch of remains of tuna stirred into remains of bean salad - cannot think what to do for dindins. Want a family meal tonight...

VintageGardenia · 27/05/2009 15:09

Oooh salmon you had salmon salad.

Salmon and spud for them, salmon and salad for moi?

VintageGardenia · 27/05/2009 15:10

Baked salmon with salsa verde of some kind mebbe.

ds1 / salsa verde - I can just hear the dramatic retching reaction ...

VintageGardenia · 27/05/2009 15:11

I have accidentally eaten a bag of sesame sticks. However as they were from the health food shop they are clearly a weight-loss aid and in no way related to crisps or other works of the devil.
