Welcome ladies of the Due August 2008 thread. Today is your day to begin REDEFINING your Post-Baby Body.

Please take a moment to STATE your SHORT TERM goal(s) and to STATE your LONG TERM goal(s) for overall health. This may include a weight you would like to reach, a fitness level you would like to attain, or size you would like to fit into.

I ask that you post at least twice a week. First to state what you plan to do during the week to reach your above goal(s). Then an end of the week post to let us know how you faired. BE HONEST! This is a SUPPORT THREAD so if you didn't find time to run a mile, admit it. Maybe someone else did the same and needs a running partner...thus a MEET-UP a might solve the problem. If you went above and beyond your expectations for the week, tell us and be an inspiration.

Now let's get started.

I am not a big fan of Denise Austin or Kathy Smith but they both have a HUGE following and lots of videos to choose from.

And since we are HOT MAMAs...
Everyone should own at least one exercise video by Carmen Electra.

I can report success on my achievement of wearing pre pg clothes by xmas - not my skinny jeans but some pre pg trousers and skirts (non elasticated waists)

I used to do a Claudia Schiffer video (about 10 years ago) but now I prefer swimming which I love, and gardening/decorating which is useful chores + exercise in one go! All of which I will be doing lots of in 2009

Many moons ago I had a yoga video called 'Fountain of Youth' or some such but the poses were so hard and done so perfectly by the lady on the video (in the crashing waves!) that it completely put me off.

TwilightSurfer · 30/12/2008 13:26

Sambo I've got a few wave crashing, hard poses but lady smiles the whole time videos. I keep them as a reminder of what I don't want to do if I ever create my own workout video.

I like your plan for 2009. There's alot that can be done doing normal things. Some of my sorest muscles came from working in the garden.

I am happy to announce I completed a postnatal yoga class THIS YEAR. Yesterday's class was perfect. The instructor works almost exclusively with pre, ante, and post pregnancy ladies. We chatted before hand about my ISSUES and I felt like she almost catered to me during the class. She offered about three poses that made me nervous. Two I achieved gracefully and the third I'll slowly begin to work on at home. For the record the 3rd pose was BOW POSE. I was not great at it before having my midsection sliced open. The bottom line is I am very pleased with myself for not completely giving up this year. Under the circumstances I could have just said TO HELL WITH EVERY EXERCISING AGAIN but I didn't. I kept trying and trying and trying, hitting walls left and right until something worked then I'd try a little more. There's no perfect route for anyone to take but you'll can't reach your goal if don't at least put your heals to the dirt.

p.s. That pose link takes you to a really neat pose instruction site. The step by step video is a great feature.

Am back in...better cram in those christmas choccies whilst I still can!

cyteen · 02/01/2009 09:33

Well, I'm back and full of new year good intentions The goal I am initially setting myself is to start each day with my warm-up stretch routine - hoisting a baby is a physical business, after all, so warming up for it makes sense. Have already done it this morning, plus 10 sit ups and 10 press ups (aiming to build on this each week), and I can feel the difference for sure.

TS totally agree about the iPod - I love turning mine up and going for a power walk with the pram, especially on a frosty day

TwilightSurfer · 03/01/2009 01:47

Cyteen that all sounds like a good start. How did the week progress?

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 03/01/2009 01:52

okay,
I am trying to find a reason
NOT
to take an exercise boot camp
led by a friend of mine
at the YMCA.

The class will run for only 6 weeks beginning 13JAN.
The class will only be on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS.
The class will start at 5:15AM.
The class will be only 45 minutes long.
The class will include cardio and strength training.

I'd have to leave the house around 4:35AM.
Reese often wakes at 4AM to feed.

I'd be back home by 6:30AM.
DH's alarm clock goes off at 6:45AM.

Can anyone find any reason why I SHOULD NOT take this class?

TwilightSurfer · 03/01/2009 10:09

Just up test driving the 5am thing. Reese woke on cue, fed and went back to sleep. I'd be arriving at the YMCA about now. I don't feel like crap so this time frame two days a week might work nicely.

ts that does sound workable - getting the class in first thing may be the best policy - I used to get up at 6am every morning to get my swim in before work for these reasons:

*it set me up for the day - good time for meditation/clear the head
*it got 'exercise' out of the way for the day
*I got a boost for the rest of the day thinking that I'd already done something great for me before I even got to the office

You've got me thinking about some early morning exercises I could fit in - I think I'll start with some stretches in the mornings and see how that goes

ps that yoga website is fantastic!

Okay I can see members submitting individual stats like below then admining them into group stats like you've drawn out from there.

SAMPLE/EXAMPLE
TwilightSurfer Week Ending 03JAN
Water 3/(2)
Swimming
Pilates/Yoga 1/(1)
Walk/Run 2(/2)
Rowing
Gym
Crunches 150/(200)
PressUps 30/(25)
Weightloss

That would be pretty simple and easy to follow.

Ladies I am back and I'm in but I am just trying to figure out your flippin table of achievements...

Am I being thick? Does it work like this:
Start of week (day?) I make plan with targets
End of week (day?) I submit achievements against goals
Sazz enters into accountant-style record and compiles overall stats

C'est ca?

VintageGardenia · 05/01/2009 22:45

Water - 2 litres per day
Swim - nil unless sort ds minding
Pilates - nil, ditto
Walking - 2 miles per day plus one longer one approx 6 miles
Crunches - nil
Press ups - nil
Cross-trainer - 2 x 45 mins per week
Tennis - 1 x per week to replace aquaerobics which turned a bit crap
Weight loss - don't know what to aim for per week

Yes sorry I was un peu confused, yes I should have same targets for fixed period too. I will just go under "Gym" as may change the cross trainer thing (in truth, cannot run at mo as no sports bra on earth could make it comfortable) to other machine. You could just put "Sport" as a header someone rides I think and someone plays hockey? I will think of tennis under that.

3lbs a week probably ambitious for me, on WW years ago we aimed for 1 - 2 lbs per week.

Fuck it - scyooze me - I really really need to shift this.
