Welcome ladies of the Due August 2008 thread. Today is your day to begin REDEFINING your Post-Baby Body.

Please take a moment to STATE your SHORT TERM goal(s) and to STATE your LONG TERM goal(s) for overall health. This may include a weight you would like to reach, a fitness level you would like to attain, or size you would like to fit into.

I ask that you post at least twice a week. First to state what you plan to do during the week to reach your above goal(s). Then an end of the week post to let us know how you faired. BE HONEST! This is a SUPPORT THREAD so if you didn't find time to run a mile, admit it. Maybe someone else did the same and needs a running partner...thus a MEET-UP a might solve the problem. If you went above and beyond your expectations for the week, tell us and be an inspiration.

Now let's get started.

Yes please! Sounds FAB

I really miss my yoga class - dp and I used to attend weekly Iyengar yoga pre baby.In the NY we've got to work out how we're going to both go (separately) again

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 14/12/2008 15:31

Sambo yoga is soooo wonderful. It sounds awesome that your DP attended class with you. Maybe there is some way you both can continue together in the new year.

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 14/12/2008 15:39

I have completed what will hopefully be a Sunday Morning Ritual (this is weekend #2). I call it my walk/run workout. Twenty minutes of combo walking and sprint runs around the neighborhood. It includes a trip down and back up the hill leading down to the lake which is about a 45 degree incline. Today I did the incline THREE times. The rush once you get back to the top is UNREAL. After the cardio part I spend time stretching. I threw in some crab push-ups and army style push-ups too. With all the blood pumping around the push-ups seem a whole lot easier to do.

The bonus of all this is I'm starting to feel WHOLE again. My CS wound is for the first time feeling healed....at 4 months (17 weeks to be exact). It's not perfect YET but I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 16/12/2008 12:19

WOW TS, thats amazing. Well done you . Great to hear your scar is on the mend too

Well i'm off for a swim this afternoon, aiming for 32 lengths (1/2 mile). Unfortunately i have had some random bleeding (AF 2 weeks ago ) so i shall take it easy and have a relax in the sauna too. DH finishes work on friday so hopefully i can have a few sessions in the next few weeks as childcare is my major issue in not swimming more

cyLENTeeNIGHT · 16/12/2008 16:45

great to hear you sounding so body-positive TS

been thinking about this thread and feeling guilty for not checking in...but then i realised that actually i feel pretty squared off wrt my physical self right now. i like the shape i'm in, am happy with my general fitness levels and am successfully addressing things as they occur e.g. drinking more water, trying not to eat gluttonous amounts of cake etc. i do want to do more structured exercise like running and swimming but logistically can't do much about this till next year anyway. so all in all, i just need to be having more sex and i'll be all set for next year!

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 21/12/2008 16:41

Cyteen, please don't feel guilty for getting where you want to be. THAT's EXCELLENT and the purpose of this thread. We're all different and will arrive at our destinations at different times. I am very happy for you. {{{{HUGS}}}}} You go get that ONE thing you want more of in the new year.

Sazzles, sorry about AF not visiting on schedule as she should. I can also completely understand the childcare issue with regard to proper exercise time. That's why my major workout day is Sunday. That's the only morning that I am FOR SURE DH will be here to watch the dcs. I hope the swim and the sauna did the trick this week.

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 21/12/2008 16:47

I have completed week three of my Sunday Morning Ritual!! Another 20min walk/run under my belt!!! HOoRay!! This included four trips up and down the cardiac hill and push ups to conclude the session.

Thanks for all the positive reinforcement. I wish I could be as positive today as I was last weekend. My belly hurts though. It feels like sore muscles in and around my scar. Either I overdid exercising during the week or when I had that roll in the hay yesterday morning. Either way I just sucked it up this morning and worked out anyway. Doubt I'll split in two for it so I shouldn't worry.

Stilling feeling good about what I'm doing and trying not to look to closely at a few areas on the bod that appear "loose". I know better than anyone you CAN'T spot train/tighten one single area. Just ride the ride and it will all tighten eventually.

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 21/12/2008 16:49

I know the holidays this week and next will make it d@#% near impossible to fit in any exercises. And all the FOOD! Goodness!! Don't worry. You'll pick up where you left off on the flip side (or next year).

Happy Holidays!!!!

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 22/12/2008 20:19

wow TS, I am inspired by your example. I went past a sign today on my way to meet my American friend: it said 'Hot Bikram Yoga' and I thought of you. I also thought it sounded really good. Must try it some day soon.

Not much physical activity to report unless you count jaw exercise munching mince pies and the odd festive cake but I can report that I am wearing a pre pg skirt Hooray! Ok it was my biggest skirt but nevertheless, significant progress has been made. Tried on pre pg trousers, and there's still a few inches to go before I can sit down in them, but I think I really am going to make it back into them! Phew!

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 22/12/2008 22:20

Sambo I took one yoga class from a HOT yoga instructor. LOL you could really read that last sentence wrong.....HE WAS NOT CUTE but anyway. The class he was teaching was not suppose to be HOT but he was "bored" and turned up the heat then really pushed us. I about DIED! Felt good but OMG!!!

Very good that you're back into pre-preggo clothing (even if it's just one skirt). Remember, breast feeding seems to slow the size drop. Don't worry, it's all good!! Your body is transforming itself and you're beginning to really notice it.....just wait to be AMAZED!!!

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 23/12/2008 12:09

Just back from raking up leaves in my garden (it's big, honest and full of trees hence the leaves). Felt good to exercise my waist muscles. It's lovely and mild so I just took the baby monitor out there and got on with it. have I earned another mince pie?

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 23/12/2008 13:52

GREAT JOB, Sambo!!

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 24/12/2008 18:54

Happy Holidays!

{{{twilight sets out bowls of popcorn, hazelnuts and dried cranberries (dipped in honey, of course) AND chilled bottles of water}}}

Sorry thread I have been a bit busy lately.

Well we got ourselves a new concept 2 rowing machine for Christmas so I am on 7 minutes a day at a steady pace initially then will start serious ergo training (2000m in shorted possible time) my best used to be 8.14 much nearer to 15 now Also doing a bit more walking town is nearer but up and over a big hill. We also discovered we have a fab nature reserve and woods behind the new house and have had a number of wonderful walks with DD in the wrap (makes it more of a workout up and down the hills with 12lbs on your front)

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 27/12/2008 20:46

Also gotta stop eating all the snacky crap that accompanies Christmas, takeaways, porridge made with double cream

TwilightSurfer · 27/12/2008 22:36

OH OOPS!! I am so of your new rower. I have considered rejoining the Y just so I can use theirs. Awesome Awesome Workouts on the ROWER!! Good for you. and the other stuff is excellent as well.

Just to let everyone know.... From all I read so far the best advice all the PROs are offering is to make a pact with a friend or group of friends to help you stay true to your fitness goals. REALLY? The articles all go on to say that it's the loving and motivational support of the group that keeps folks coming back for more.

I am so glad to be AHEAD of the CURVE!

VintageGardenia · 27/12/2008 23:21

Feck it I've had 3 ports, about a pound of Cambozola and most of the nice Quality Streets. Not the best night in the year to reappear on Hot Mamas but 2009 is going to see me properly redefining so am getting on my threads.

Also TS was kind enough to link.

TwilightSurfer · 28/12/2008 15:08

So nice to see you VG.

Just completed WEEK 4 of my Sunday Ritual. Downloaded two new songs to my iPod before I walked out the door. Do It Well by Jennifer Lopez AND Gold Digger by Kayne West with Jamie Foxx. I think I've about found the perfect mix for my 20/30 run/walk. I tell you the iPod is amazing motivator. You all should be using one.

I've also completed the third of six fitness/nutrition mags. I'm collecting some really good stuff to share with the group.

GROUP?
I have a feeling we'll start to see more folks wander over as the first of the year fireworks go off.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 28/12/2008 18:13

so I sneak back on with tail between legs.

Not done one tiny bit of excersise for weeks.
Must try harder, not weighed myself in weeks, must do that soon.

Although I lost all pregnancy weight and some pre preg clothes are baggy, my belly is not the same, I am sure its getting bigger/baggier/saggier
need a fitness regime that actually works and I will stick to it.
any suggestions much appreciated.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 28/12/2008 18:23

Also I have a rower amongst other gym machine/equipment but it's not one I tend to use. Dh does though.
Are they really good then?
Which body parts are they good for??

TwilightSurfer · 28/12/2008 18:34

to no1.

topic is exercise videos...

my all time favoite is Ali MacGraw's Yoga Mind & Body. Eric Schiffman is the actual yoga instructor. This is really old. This was my first introduction to yoga. After all the years I can still put it, CLOSE MY EYES, and move fluidly from pose to pose.

new one's i've just read about that look promising:
10-min Solution Pilates Perfect Body
Sheva Rea Creative Core + Lower Body
YogaFit Full Body Blast

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 28/12/2008 18:36

Rowers are awesome for cardio. They are good for core too if you use proper form. The back, arms and legs all get a workout.

This video looks like a lot of fun.
