im on starflower oil and evening primrose at the mo,just because my pmt is awful and it affects how i am with ds so out of desperation im taking whatever is advised. Thanks Christie, that will be my next purchase at Tescos when i go.

Tabs · 05/06/2005 15:54

Donbean - that might be part of the answer as to why your weight loss isn't as much as you'd hoped. Has it been explained to you that both of these oily supplements count as syns, so you are probably using your allowance that way, and anything else is taking you over the top?!

Success express is where you have one third of your plate (at every meal in the day) covered with stuff that is free on either red or green days (so you can combine both), and the other two thirds is covered with superfree foods which are free on both days. Your healthy extras can be from either plan, and between meals you can eat superfree foods only. Basically you have to stuff yourself so full of veg that there's no room for any bad stuff!!

Donbean · 05/06/2005 19:29

surely not!
surely a couple of suppliments cant cause bloated body and weight gain of 2lbs, Really?

How many syns in a strepsil, do you think?? I could be seriously overloading if it's high because i've got the mother of all sore throats!!! On the plus side though, it stops me wanting to nibble!! Can't eat crisps at the minute!!

OP posts:
Tabs · 07/06/2005 09:42

Not sure how many in a strepsil, but I read recently that gargling with raspberry vinegar is supposed to be really good for a sore throat, and that would be syn free!!

BethAndHerBrood · 07/06/2005 09:51

Thanks for the tip, but i have this inability to gargle, makes me choke, retch, eyes water, nose runs, i swallow it, then i'm sick!!!

Is that TMI???????

OP posts:
Tabs · 07/06/2005 21:35

Well I guess all those other things might at least take your mind off your sore throat .

1/2 lb off for me tonight, but had to put especially light clothes on to even achieve that. Think these pregnancy hormones might slow my weight loss right down, and going to be a tough week this week as am away all weekend for my brother's wedding. Ho hum, slow loss is still better than none.

limitedsdotcom · 07/06/2005 21:39

I help out (money and weighing) at my SW club, and first of all found Mix 2 Max really hard to get my head around, but now I've really got into it and do it most days - lost 4.5 lbs last week - completely unheard of - this week is star * week so a bit disappointed that 2lbs went back on so will see if I lose hmmmm, say 6lbs next week! Doubt it!

Walking lots to counteract any star effects!

Mix2Max is basically for each main meal you have red or green and then superfree foods, healthy extras and Syns where you want them in between up to the usual limits. For example, I have for breakfast most days Oatso Simple (HEB) with half water, half skimmed milk from HEA (thought it would be gross with water but no probs!) - add some syn free sweetener fluff stuff (granules), then for lunch (on Green) I've been having huge salads with boiled eggs and maybe HEB tinned Sardines or some other meat/fish from HEB list, then at night I'd have completely Red Original Dinner. In between - must be on Superfree Foods list in the new book which explains both the new plans - I have Muller Lights, tons of fruit, carrot sticks, and lots of sugarfree orange/lemon squash, water etc., and then have the Syns where I need them most, usually this time of night at computer, so still have any choc I want that I count. Cadbury's Caramel being 12 Syns! So 3 spare if needed for Salad Cream, or whatever... if I want bread then I use my HEB for that and don't have the HEB with lunch/dinner. Pretty sure I'm doing that all right... goodness knows, I'll get detention if not!!

Tabs · 07/06/2005 21:43

LDC - I was expressly told that oatso simple isn't allowed as a HEB, and it's not given as one in the book. What does your consultant say about this?

limitedsdotcom · 07/06/2005 21:43

Strepsils Sugarfree are 0.5 syn for 2 sweets, and if you have Original or Menthol & Eucalyptus then that's 0.5 syn for 1 sweet - the sugarfree ones aren't so bad, had them before, but having more than 2 gives me gross mouth ulcers if I have too many. Yuk!

limitedsdotcom · 07/06/2005 21:44

Oh bizarre, she puts them in as raffle prizes all the time and always says they are a Healthy Extra B! I'll check info and ask her as well, class is on Monday but need to phone her tomorrow anyway... ooooh!

limitedsdotcom · 07/06/2005 21:45

I know it's only the original flavour in sachets that's OK when she's said and I won it the first time, hence OK to carry on...
Hmmmmm! Got me looking now!

Tabs · 07/06/2005 21:47

Well do let me know what she says, as I quite like them myself. I know that the new readybrek stuff (original flavour) is ok as a HEB, but you have to have a scan bran with that too or else count it as syns - yuk!

limitedsdotcom · 07/06/2005 21:56

OK, here's something : I've looked up on the Slimming World website - and the only way to do is by doing an online food diary and going through your Healthy Extras..... So it says :

27g Quaker Original Oats So Simple with 1 Scan Bran
or
27g sachet Quaker Original Oatso Simple and 1 Allinson Wholemeal Organic Crispbread

  • that's what I've been doing wrong, so huge apologies for that, I should've been adding a Scan Bran every time, and the funny thing is, I've sneaked one in here and there before and not added it as Syns because I thought I wasn't supposed to have it! Doh! Oh well, must make sure to have one every day now - I'm sure you can add it in at another time of the day, with salad etc.? Doesn't have to be eaten at same time as porridge surely? Thanks for making me look it up Tabs!!!

Has anyone ever made the Scan Bran and Nutella Ferrero Rocher type thingies, we had them at a SW foodie night and were amazingly good, and got loads of recipes... there's a great one for Low Syn Christmas Pudding, which was lush!

I've never done the online food diaries - didn't realise you could get it to work it out for you that way - sounds quite clever so might have a look when I've a spare half hour.

I think I've got the recipe for the ferrero rocher things, but have to admit we all laughed at the very idea! Are they really like ferrero rocher or not? Not a big choccy fiend, but might be nice occasionally.

Don't think you're alone not knowing about the scan bran thing - there was another thread the other day about porridge oats where I mentioned it and surprised a few people too.

That's the great thing about staying to classes and using forums like this - we can all learn something useful.

Right - off to bed now - gotta be up early.

Tabs · 07/06/2005 22:03

Well done YG. Saw a couple of your other threads and it sounded like a tough week, so maintaining is great .
