Had no luck with posting this in chat! Must be a skinny bunch in there. Seriously need to shed some weight. After lots of failed attempts over the past few years I'm determined to stick to a long-term plan, reducing calorie intake by a small amount and doing more exercise.

My plan is this - I'm reducing my calorie intake to 1600 per day (to maintain weight I should have 2100) and aim to do a 20 min brisk walk 3 times a week, plus 20-30 mins aerobic exercise 3 times a week (fitness video or Wii fit or swimming).

If anyone is interested in joining in, with maybe a weekly weigh-in then I'd be very glad of the company and support!

Bought some body fat measuring scales yesterday and my body fat percentage is almost 39% which I don't think is good somehow.

Tibni - that's fantastic weight loss! We've all done really well. Alright, so it's only been one week, but still! Managed to get for a run this morning, but dispirited at how hard work it was. this is now the 8th week since dh and I started going for 3(ish!) runs a week, and sometimes I feel ok, but a lot of the time it's really hard work. It's all round fields and a few footpaths, so very muddy, long grass, not easy, but I thought I would be seeing a little improvement by now . Still, I tell myself even if it doesn't get any easier, at least I am doing exercise, so that's better than nothing.

Sounds like a Davinathon going on today. I was going to do the abs bit of the power of 3 while dh was running this afternoon, but he's announced he's too tired and, like you Romy, I am not into being watched doing Davina!

I like porridge, never tried Oatso, though, will have a look next time I'm in the supermarket.

medogs - oh the torture. Ryvita and salad is hard enough, but with temptation all around, sending strong vibes
Romy - I love the bread just fell in your mouth when you weren't lookking!
tibni - interesting advice about not putting your body into starvation alert - I know if I'm desperate to lose weight I will miss a meal here and there, even though I know it's not healthy. Hadn't thought about it in fact being counter-productive and slowing down my metabolism. Any more tips from your trainer?
Surprise - where are you? You started the thread, some back!

Right, off to see if the boys will have a decent afternoon nap, then I will consider doing Davina. I will not sit and play the wii, oooh no, not me

2Happy · 26/08/2008 13:08

"I am not into being watched doing Davina!"

I should rephrase that, shouldn't I?!

tibni · 26/08/2008 13:54

ahhh!!!! Just logged my lunch on food focus and noticed it has reduced my net cal total since I lost the 5lb! Only by 27 cals a day but its only the first week!

I'm lucky that 1 of the trainers at the gym I go to is someone I know so I can grab him for help and advice. Also means he insults me like mad! He is a triathlete so mega fit and doesn't consider me fit enough yet for a mega cardio workout with him - not sure I will ever be fit enough! He advised me to work on low intensity fat burn but for longer periods. It takes approx 20mins to really start burning fat so he was talking 40mins to an hour at least. He told me to increase my weights for tone.

Once the kids are back at school I am booking in for a proper assessment with him and will let you know what he says.

He did tell me my body would need a rest day - I do have the tendancy to go over the top.

MABS · 26/08/2008 17:55

only had 4 ryvita today, no butter - feel v thin

BlingLovin · 26/08/2008 17:59

MABS, tell me that's not ALL you've had? You need to eat more than that.

cece · 26/08/2008 18:52

MABs - you really need to eat more than that!

I have had beans on toast for lunch and then sweet and sour chicken with rice for dinner. Yum

Sweete and sour sauce was 88 calories per 100g which I thought was good

medogsarebarking · 26/08/2008 19:30

I had a weird episode at work today - went all faint and then tried to talk to someone but the words wouldn't come out - I was trying to say something but just mumbling. I was really scared, think I had a mild panic attack after. I didn't want to drive home so got a lift. My head is sore now (like after a migraine but with no migraine IYSWIM). I've slept for a bit and eaten some home made chicken soup (lol) but still feel really groggy.

I'm wondering if it's a blood sugar thing. When I've tried detox in the past I've ended up with really bad headaches. Any of you had anything like this?

I had weetbix and fruit for breakfast, and ryvita, salad and cereal bar for lunch. Maybe I'm not eating enough?

(and no, I'm definitely not pg )

Romy7 · 26/08/2008 20:07

medogs, there is a thing called a TIA (transient ischaemic attack i think) which is like a mini-stroke - usually accompanied by slight temp paralysis eg of arm... it can be quite quick and sounds a bit similar, but i think it is more likely to be diet related... have you cut down on tea/ coffee as well, as i always get a monster headache with caffeine withdrawal?

it might be better to get checked over if you are still worried, when was the last time you had your bp checked etc? (i'm a bit paranoid due to recent bp nightmare - got stopped driving etc for a couple of weeks because of similar 'blips', and my mum had strokes at 32 - i'm well past that now lol)

really don't want to worry you, but thought you might want to check out dr google - it might put your mind at rest if it sounds nothing like what happened!

hope you're feeling better now.

Romy7 · 26/08/2008 20:08

lol at your chicken soup btw - i made flipping stock yesterday - guess it's soup for lunch again tomorrow!

tibni · 26/08/2008 23:15

Medogsarebarking - hope you are feeling better now; it would be wise to get checked out. I know its inconvenient but your health is the most important thing and if nothing else it will put your mind at ease.

medogsarebarking · 27/08/2008 07:39

Thanks you guys. I'm feeling better this morning. I'm going to try and get docs appointment today, waiting til 8am to phone up and see if they can squeeze me in. They're only open half day today so I'm not holding out much hope. But I'll try again tomorrow if not.

Thanks for TIA info Romy - just googled it and I think you might be on to something. I've been having woozy episodes and getting tingles/numb feelings in my arms for a while now. I put it all down to diet but I'm really going to get it checked now. I've had migraines for years and that's related to blood pressure etc so I want to see if it's anything else. I'm a bugger for not going to the docs unless it's life threatening but yesterday really freaked me out.

tibni · 27/08/2008 08:51

Medogsarebarking - my best mates dh had a TIA episode a couple of years ago. He is early 40's and keeps himself very fit. It was really scary at the time but after initial tests they now just monitor him for blood pressure, cholesterol and general health. He took it as a warning to look after himself and he is really well now - despite having a stressful, demanding job and 4dc's.

Hope you get that appointment.

BlingLovin · 27/08/2008 09:23

Hi Medogs, - good that you're going to the doctor, today or tomorrow. It could be as simple as low blood pressure or more complex, but you shouldn't mess around. I was once having strange semi fainting spells but only went to see a doctor after I nearly fainted while driving my car. Turned out I had a huge sinus infection which was a) stuffing up my balance and b) causing my blood pressure to drop. So embarrassing! . Sinusitus? Not exactly great for the street cred. Small dose of antibiotics and I was right as rain.

DP's sister came round last night and we had chicken salad with one small roll each. Both DP and I felt over full and bloated last night, slept badly and I feel bloated this morning? Surely that's the kind of meal that should make you feel good?

BlingLovin · 27/08/2008 09:24

By the way, has anyone seen Surprise? She started us off but has been silent for a while now?

cece · 27/08/2008 10:46

medogs - yes you should definitely see a doc, hope you are better today

well I weighed myself today. Not sure how accurate my scales are. They are Tesco value ones and last week I was on the hospital scales... so it appears I have lost about 7 lbs!? Not sure if that is right or not but feeling pleased regardless.

medogsarebarking · 27/08/2008 11:13

Bugger.

Well I got in at docs - as soon as I told him what happened he mentioned TIA (I didn't mention it first)

I've been referred to the local stroke unit for brain scans and other things I forget now - cardio vascular something or other. I'm not to drive until we get it sorted and he's signed me off for two weeks. I'm so glad I went.

He did say it in a kind of 'lets just rule it out' kind of way, but I'm still worried, obviously. But I also feel relieved that it's getting looked into. Work have been brilliant and I'm going to take docs advice and chill for a bit.

Thanks for all wishes and advice - tibni the story about your mate's dh is very reassuring.

Anyway, I don't want this to overshadow all the fab weight loss we're doing. I'm still on course for that, with the added bonus of having to walk more as I can't drive!

Off to PIL's in a bit - MIL is doing Slimming World at the moment so I'll be in for a nice healthy lunch!

Romy7 · 27/08/2008 11:39

oh, medogs, sending you huge amounts of 'chilling' vibes, i was really hoping you would have a look and say 'no, not that'...
but like everyone says, doesn't have to be the end of the world - even if they do agree it was, then lifestyle changes and monitoring can be all that is needed xx

i had two weeks off driving (had a 'blip' in the car when i was absolutely convinced i was going to black out, and had to pull over. really freaked me out.) two weeks of walking and enforced relaxation made me feel completely different

doc thinks mine was a post viral attack of bppv (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo?) despite the fact that my bp was sky high, so we're just waiting it out really... and seem fine so far...

anyways, we're a healthy lot, aren't we? hope you can manage to relax xx

where is surprise? might have to do a search and see if she has been around at all?!

now then, lunch...

BlingLovin · 27/08/2008 11:56

Take the two weeks as a proper break and enjoy being able to chill a little. sounds like you need it! Lots of happy vibes - I think it's good that the doctor is checking you out, just to be safe.

MABS · 27/08/2008 12:12

God Medogs - take care, good luck with it all.

No not just ryvita ystdy gals, had a bloody curry in the eve dammit!

tibni · 27/08/2008 12:34

Medogs - glad you got to the doctors, try and rest and relax now. Mates dh still goes to stroke clinic every 6 months for checks, he couldn't drive initially while they checked him out. Any lunch you don't have to make yourself is good news - enjoy.

MABS - glad you ate more than just ryvita, food is supposed to be enjoyable after all!

cece - well done on weight loss.

now did someone mention lunch??????

Bumdiddley · 27/08/2008 12:41

Medogs - fucking hell. Hope you are ok. If that had happened to me I would have put it down to the erm excercise (can't even spell it)and food plan (I refuse to use the d word)

I should eat more ryvita. My digestive tract is a little sluggish...

Where is surprise? I want to buy her a drink for starting this thread. Nothing to calorific obviously! I tried to figure out how many calories are in an Appletini but can't find how many are in Apple Sourz...God I'm a lush...

BlingLovin · 27/08/2008 12:54

OOh, BumDiddley, I've been dying to give someone my digestion system tip.... [saddo emoticon].
I've been drinking hot water and lemon every morning when I wake up and then eat and drink nothing for 30 minutes. Honestly, it definitely helps. Apparently it cleanses the liver or something which helps overall digestion...

MABS · 27/08/2008 12:55

I finf the sunfloer seed ryvita bordering on edible bumdiddley.

Bumdiddley · 27/08/2008 12:59

Thanks Bling! I'll try it. I have been binging on Andrews in the morning which is not very healthy. I should just eat more fibre, hence the ryvita.

I shall have ryvita and prunes for breakfast tommorow....

BlingLovin · 27/08/2008 16:04

So not a good day. Brain is falling apart. Can't concentrate. Have stuff to do for my team and can't get anything to focus. Have spent most of day cruising MN.

This diet is currently the only thing I feel I have any real control over!

No no, I'm not some weirdly unhappy person, just having a very bad day/week - boss is a pain, work is boring but still pressured and I feel bleugh. Going home early today. Hope to sit on couch watching random, braindead tv programmes.
