Had no luck with posting this in chat! Must be a skinny bunch in there. Seriously need to shed some weight. After lots of failed attempts over the past few years I'm determined to stick to a long-term plan, reducing calorie intake by a small amount and doing more exercise.

My plan is this - I'm reducing my calorie intake to 1600 per day (to maintain weight I should have 2100) and aim to do a 20 min brisk walk 3 times a week, plus 20-30 mins aerobic exercise 3 times a week (fitness video or Wii fit or swimming).

If anyone is interested in joining in, with maybe a weekly weigh-in then I'd be very glad of the company and support!

Bought some body fat measuring scales yesterday and my body fat percentage is almost 39% which I don't think is good somehow.

2Happy · 25/08/2008 06:42

Welcome, birdinatent
Hope the doughnuts tasted good! We had a full-on roast dinner yesterday; the calorie count is something to behold!
Happy anniversary medogs! Your night in sounds fab!
Tibni - interesting the effect reducing carbs has. I'm hoping getting more exercise will help me feel happier/sleep better all those things it's supposed to do!

Well, I have done the deed, and.......(drum roll)...... I have lost weight I am now 10st1lb3/4 (64.3kg). So just over a pound (I think I was aiming for 1lb a week). Really wasn't expecting to have lost, but I guess the real test will be whether I lose again this week, and whether I can keep it off. We're off to an agricultural show today, the boredom of endless tractors will undoubtedly make the lure of bacon sarnies all the stronger!

tibni · 25/08/2008 08:17

Morning.

I too have done the deed and got on the scales; I have lost 5lbs . This week will certainly be a big test for me, when I will have to really work on the fat reserves. I have stuck to lows cals all week and exercised - now to try and keep it up!

medogsarebarking · 25/08/2008 08:30

2happy - well done on weight loss, must have been a nice surprise considering you weren't expecting to lose any - brilliant! Hope you have a good time at the show. Is it at least the kind that has interesting crafty type stalls for you to wander round, or even a beer tent?

Tibni - 5lb, brilliant result!

Welcome birdinatent

Ok - I've been on the scales, and I have lost 3lb!

I was expecting/hoping to have lost 1lb as I have had a bit of a naughty weekend. I'm gobsmacked and so pleased. I may have got the exercise/calorie balance right. I suppose the next week will tell.

Good luck with everyone else's weigh in!

Romy7 · 25/08/2008 09:02

you are all doing really well! tibni - i am thunderstruck!!!

10 stone 7 1/2, so exactly 1 lb off - easy start i guess, but still quite chuffed - i'm hoping that some of it is increasing muscle because i've been exercising for the first time in way too long!

so, on the whole, not too bad! more davina this week then! (and less doughnuts...)doughnuts x 2 v delicious but will let the dcs eat the rest!

enjoy your bank holiday, skinny people!

BlingLovin · 25/08/2008 09:45

Hello all.

Wow, I'm very very impressed. You've all done brilliantly. Tibni - you're a goddess Medogs, 2Happy and Romy - good work!

We have had a bit of a weekend - landed up drinking WAAAAYYYY too much on saturday, had mild hangover all of yesterday. But with the exception of wine, didn't do too badly on food over all. I have lost just over a pound (or at least, I think I have. I had weighed myself the day before we started this but had slightly blocked out the weight. But I've definitely lost at least half a pound, possibly more) and am now down to 75.6kg. So am feeling pretty good. Especially as I didn't exercise at all.

Am just having something to drink and will be doing my Davina dvd while DP is out running with his sister. Romy - the reason you're less stiff the second time is, I think, because it was less of a challenge to your muscles. Not just in terms of strength but muscle memory, if that makes sense? So in theory, while it should still be hard every time, you shouldn't be stiff every time in the future. I'll let you know how I feel later!

I think we're onto something here gang. If only that by simply watching what you eat you have a far better understandng of how much you do normally eat. I've been shocked at how many snacks I've been able to ditch, because before I didn't even register them.

Welcome Birdinatent!

MuthaHubbard · 25/08/2008 10:23

Hello ladies!!!

Wow, I am well impressed with all the weight loss! Good for you. Tibni - go girl! Bet the fact that you cut out bread helped loads.

Stepped on the scales myself and have lost 2lbs . Am well impressed. Even though I've been thinking more about what I'm eating I've still had the odd treat here and there (ie a mini roll or a jaffa cake or two with my coffee) so it doesn't feel like I'm drastically altering my diet, just eating more healthily. And all treats within my calorie allowance obviously.

Had a weekend off exercise wise - apart from a 2k walk on Sat to the pictures to see Hellboy 2 - popcorn and sweets dutifully resisted!

Welcome bird - get on them scales today and then you'll fit right in!

Keep it up girls!

BlingLovin · 25/08/2008 11:08

I now remember why I didn't do aerobics when it was so fashionable! I am terrible at it. Totally uncordinated and all over the place! :-) Just did the warm up, aerobics and the cool down, so not zillions of calories, but will build up!
Well done Mutha. 2lbs is very impressive.

MuthaHubbard · 25/08/2008 12:18

Don't worry Bling, at least you are doing some exercise which is the main thing. And at least no-one can see you if you think you are a bit uncordinated! Am sure as you do it more, you'll find it easier.

MABS · 25/08/2008 18:33

you are all doing so well, marvellous! well done to you all. 5lbs, that's great - well done.

No loss here, but incredibly no gain either. Staill 9stone 12lbs.

cece · 25/08/2008 18:43

Well done on all the weight loss. I haven't weighed to day as we have been away and only came back an hour or so ago. Not been good, went out for a meal (although did swap chips for new potatoes!) and my friend cooked for us (fried chips!).

Also I didn't start till Thursday so may weigh on Thurs or maybe next Monday!

cece · 25/08/2008 19:25

Just done an online grovery shop and used mysupermarket.co.uk

Just wanted to tell you as above each item it tells you how many calories per 100g. Not sure if that is just for Tesco or all of them but very handy. Then before it went me to the tesco site it let me swap items for lower calorie items that it helpfully suggested

Bumdiddley · 25/08/2008 20:47

Gaaaaaaa...I had a bit of a ummm..heavy weekend..I ate nearly 3000 cals on Saturday...

birdinatent · 25/08/2008 22:24

just done the weigh in and wish i hadnt!! I weighed 11st 12lbs

Now know I have 2 stone to lose, not 1 and a bit as I thought!!!!!

Did well today until tea time, when dad came round with a bottle of wine, oh well, its soooo hard while the kids are off school, roll on next week!!!

Bumdiddley · 26/08/2008 09:03

Oh bugger birdinatent (interesting image there!!) Yes, ds is 2 now, can't keep calling it baby weight...

I've decided not to weigh or measure (the dc broke the scales anyway).

When I hit the date FoodFocus has given me for when I should have lost the weight, I will try on the black skirt I used to fit into.

I have spent too many years weighing and measuring myself.

Well done everyone...I feel like I let the side down this weekend with my 3000 cal binge...

cece · 26/08/2008 09:50

Morning all!

I have decided today to try and eat a bigger breakfast in the vain hope that I won't feel hungry later in the day... So I have had 344 calories for my breakfast

BlingLovin · 26/08/2008 11:03

That's your bigger breakfast? No wonder you've been starving!! . I've been told that you should have bigger breakfasts and reduce calories as your day progresses. My small breakfast is about 350 calories!

Am mildly sore all over from Davina video yesterday. Which considering how pathetic I was, and how I didn't manage to do 2 modules but only the aerobics one, and not even then properly, is kind of worrying!

But it's good - as apparently I had 2000 calories yesterday, but luckily with the exercise from Davina and a long walk after lunch, I worked them off. Phew.

tibni · 26/08/2008 11:05

Bumdiddley - my "baby" is 7 so I have no excuse either! He was 10lb 8oz though! (vain attempt to hang onto excuse lol)

cece - trainer at gym told me to have a low GI breakfast such as oats as they give slow release energy and will help prevent sugar dips. He also recommended that I have healthy snacks through day so body doesn't go on starvation alert and slow down my metabolism.

cece · 26/08/2008 11:12

Yes I have been having porridge or weetabix for breakfast with semi skimmed milk. today I had a banana on it too. I have also been eating fruit as snacks when hungry but it isn't the same as a packet of chocolate digestives is it?

tibni · 26/08/2008 11:12

Oats so simple (syrup) with skimmed milk is 206 cals and goes down like a brick!

tibni · 26/08/2008 11:15

It is sooo not a packet of choc digestives! LOL

Bumdiddley · 26/08/2008 12:14

I just can't do the whole cereal thing for breakfast. I think my brain would rebel and I'd end up craving bacon.

I had 1/2 a tin of spaghetti and a wholemeal pitta. (about 250 cals)

What's everyone having for lunch?? I haven't decided. Tuna and something I think..

medogsarebarking · 26/08/2008 12:24

I am work eating my ryvita and salad whilst surrounded by walnut whips, chocolate digestives and crunch cream biscuits.

But oo, how delicious is this cherry tomato in comparison?

Romy7 · 26/08/2008 12:28

i had homemade veg soup! (can you see a pattern developing here lol?) i'm having special k for breakfast, which drives me mad and i'm always starving, so it's going to change... have oatso in cupboard, so a def possibility!
managed 2/3 of davina yesterday - dh came back early from dogwalking and i wasn't really ready for it to be a spectator sport... he was quite keen on watching davina tho...

had a slice of bread with my soup. it just fell in my mouth when i wasn't looking...

chilli tonight, but going to measure my rice and then open the other davina (chances are i might get through a '30 minute workout' without an audience...)

right - off ferrying small children to swimming lessons. soooo tempting to get in myself, but it's closed to the public. ho hum. i can't WAIT for next week, and school glorious school, does that make me a bad person?

Bumdiddley · 26/08/2008 12:36

"fell in my mouth when i wasn't looking"

ROFL!! I wander how many calories ROFLing uses

medogsarebarking - I feel your pain.

What is it with this Davina thing? I used to do the Y plan thing with Anthea Turner (plus dodgy 80s hair do). But yes, I'd have to do it before anyone gets up...
