Had no luck with posting this in chat! Must be a skinny bunch in there. Seriously need to shed some weight. After lots of failed attempts over the past few years I'm determined to stick to a long-term plan, reducing calorie intake by a small amount and doing more exercise.

My plan is this - I'm reducing my calorie intake to 1600 per day (to maintain weight I should have 2100) and aim to do a 20 min brisk walk 3 times a week, plus 20-30 mins aerobic exercise 3 times a week (fitness video or Wii fit or swimming).

If anyone is interested in joining in, with maybe a weekly weigh-in then I'd be very glad of the company and support!

Bought some body fat measuring scales yesterday and my body fat percentage is almost 39% which I don't think is good somehow.

Oh dear. Normally, I'd say, "if you can't have wine on a friday, when can you?" but that seems too permissive in our supporting each other guise?

Oh, feck it. Have a glass. Try to limit it to one. I'm certainly going to!

MABS · 22/08/2008 15:44

aaww thanks Bling, i'll hang out til 6 i reckon then i'll have one of those massive glasses!

Romy7 · 22/08/2008 16:13

that takes me back - i really do remember a time when there were no calories on a friday. where on earth was i? ah. 1995 in germany. that was the rule that was. it seemed to work. i was uber thin.
not advocating it this time, i fear the other 6 days wouldn't be enough to compensate in my particular case...

BlingLovin · 22/08/2008 17:17

Right ladies, I hope to be off soon - although sadly, by 17:00 departure has already been destroyed by irritating call from someone who clearly needs something NOW.

Good luck for the weekend. I'll be thinking of us all. If not really around - weekend out of town with friends until Sunday and I'm off to make the chilli, chocolate and tequila chocolate mousse that I got of MN. I was asked to bring dessert... sigh.

2Happy · 22/08/2008 18:28

Bling - August is clearly a popular month for weddings; our anniversary was a couple of weeks ago too!
cece - PMSL at your story! How did you explain that to your lodger?!
Bling and cece - have good weekends!

Has anyone done Davina yet? I've just had supper (home-made lasagna, but Asda's garlic and cheese bread, honestly, I think my eating habits have got worse this week, or maybe it's just paying mroe attention to them that's done it), but if there were a collective Davina at 7.30ish I'd go along with that!

Romy7 · 22/08/2008 18:53

i'll be limbering up about 7.30.... are you doing 'power of three' or a 30 minute one?

2Happy · 22/08/2008 19:32

Well I was going to do the abs/muscles (sorry can't remember proper name) one fo the power of 3, but dh has just nabbed the remote control to put some shite terribly interesting programme on, so that's me scuppered, sorry! May as well just get the ironing out

Romy7 · 22/08/2008 19:57

that'll burn cals as well, though.
i got held up by a madwoman on the dogwalk, who wanted to discuss the behavioural differences between black and choc labs...
but i'm off to squeeze into my lycra. be warned.
couldn't you just get your bean tins and do bicep curls on the sofa?

medogsarebarking · 22/08/2008 20:34

Well my risotto was yummy, but I went all galloping gourmet and added butter and loads of wine - I've also had three beers.. . I think I also have to try and lose the 'well it is Friday' excuse.

BUT

I had dusted off the eyetoy for PS (poor person's wii) earlier and had a few games of volleyball and athletics with DD, and I've just been out for a longish walk with the dog. I'm hoping it all balances. I just need to resist the whisky fudge left over from my hols....

Romy7 · 22/08/2008 22:10

oh, medogs, you bad girl.
i was going to forgive you the dinner, even with the butter and wine lol, cos you can't really have risotto without (not here anyway), but 3 BEERS!!!! i am rolling around on the floor laughing (which is no mean feat after davina lol)
step away from the fudge!

i'm still waiting for the box of doughnuts on sunday, so being v good...

medogsarebarking · 22/08/2008 22:18

I know, I hate myself. Three tiny bottles of light beer though - not three pints of guiness. Not sure if that actually makes a difference but I'm telling myself it does.

I have stepped away from the fudge and solemnly swear to do 3 hail Davinas and a 5 mile walk tomorrow as penance.

Romy7 · 23/08/2008 08:23

oh, if it's light....

tibni · 23/08/2008 08:38

Morning. Didn't do too bad yesterday after all. Had beans on dry toast at mums and felt saintly but logging "normal white" rather than weight watchers malted doubled the cals! . Had a good session at the gym burning over 850 cals last night using a fat burn programme.

Weekend is going to be the most difficult time for me; probably for most of us. Meal times ofen get messed up around activities, and we snack and treat ourselves to cakes / takeaways! This will be the real test for me!

medogsarebarking - hope those beers tasted really good. We are all going to need treats so lets try and enjoy them without guilt.

How are the Davina girls this morning?

Romy7 · 23/08/2008 08:44

i feel better

how cool is that?!

won't be able to walk tomorrow, but i am much less sore than i was when i put the dvd in last night! go figure!

tibni · 23/08/2008 09:24

Skipping around the house! I'm sure you can log that in your exercise

glad to hear you are feeling good

2Happy · 23/08/2008 10:44

Romy - dh (a vet, though admittedly more large animals than small) says he's never heard of there being any difference between the types of labs. So HTH next time a random stranger stops to discuss next time you're out walkging
I think not doing Davina was actually a good thing in retrospect, long walk plus exercise DVD on thursday, then went for a run yesterday, my calves are a bit tight this morning!! Still, it's actually sunny!!!!! So we're off to the beach. Does frisbee count for calorie burning??

Romy7 · 23/08/2008 11:05

2H - i think she only asked me as i was clearly trotting along with one of each - perhaps she was a bit lonely lol. i told her she was barking up the wrong tree... arf arf...
i'll go now.
too few cals appears to be making me lightheaded.

wish me luck for the supermarket!
i made it 5 days without bread!

is frisbee not on food focus? what are these weight loss sites coming to... tsk tsk. if you did dvd on thurs, then def a good idea to leave it a day or so i would have thought. i wouldn't have been capable of doing it again the day after!! do you live by the coast? i'm v jealous - here in suburbia it's not v bracing!

MABS · 23/08/2008 18:21

shall i shoot myself? drank a whole bottle of cava last nt, bar one glass.

Romy7 · 23/08/2008 19:45

crisps.
ah well.
no booze yet though - will save that sin for tomorrow when dh gets home...
still feel very virtuous of the body though - no sign of any stiffness at all... v odd considering i could barely walk 2 days ago!
did someone snaffle the other glass MABS, to save you from yourself?

it's the last time i go to sainsbugs after 6 on a saturday though - it was like trying to scavenge fruit and veg off the floor after the market has packed up for the day.

MABS · 24/08/2008 10:35

yeah Romy dh had it damn him! well done to you tho, you are doing so well.

I did do 30 lengths and a pump class ystdy, that must help mustn't it ?

Romy7 · 24/08/2008 10:43

you are an exercise goddess
i think it'll all even up nicely - if i do ok this week i know i can up the cals as long as i do more exercise - just trying to work out the balance! if i don't lose any weight then i know i've got to up the exercise a bit more (ulp) and keep the cals the same. not really keen on dropping any more food wise (i doooooo like my food lol), so hoping that the cutting back a bit and more davina/ dog walking will be successful.

but dh did ring and say he was off to by doughnuts

MABS · 24/08/2008 12:05

enjoy your doughnuts Romy. No, I'm no exercise goddess...just have crap willpower

tibni · 24/08/2008 12:20

Romy7 - Enjoy the doughnuts

MABS I too exercise but struggle with the eating. I've been a gym member 2 years now and am fitter, stronger but no lighter.

I am really hoping I show a good loss this week. When I have included my exercise I have been well under my net cal figure most days and not exceeded it any day. Long term I think I will have to increase my cals slightly and accept using the exercise as a balance.

In myself I do feel better. I am no longer constipated and am not having the highs and lows that I had on my old diet of high unrefined carbs. I am certainly ready for meal times and I am wanting to drink far more cold drinks.

Still amazed at the cals in foods - I really didn't have a clue.

medogsarebarking · 24/08/2008 12:39

tibni I think it's a really good sign that you can feel all this differences and they make you feel better. You must be doing exactly what's right for your body, well done!

MABS - did you enjoy the wine? It's done now and you can't go back so you might as well remember it fondly and push onwards from now.

Well, today is my 6th wedding anniversary. Last night DD was off at grandma's so DH and I watched Run Fatboy Run whilst scoffing fajitas (with quorn, loads of veg and salad). I had no beer . I had two small vodkas with slimline ginger ale instead - hey it's got to be better than beer right?

DH and I then tried to recapture out youth by watching loads of the Reading and Leeds festival bands on BBC 3. I was exhausted just watching all the young things jumping around.

Been out for long walk this morning, having roast chicken (no skin of course) for lunch.

Have a lovely day everyone. enjoy the donuts Romy!

birdinatent · 24/08/2008 13:13

I know you have all been at this for a week already, but is it too late to join in??!!

Need to lose about 1 1/2 stone. Been calling it baby weight but youngest is 5 now so have to do something soon.

Just had homemade veg soup for lunch and will try and drink lots of water.
