Hi there, joined SW on Monday on the recommendation of a friend. Had two red days the last two days which have been oK. How on earth do you all do the weighing? Especially when you have DCs?

I have loads to lose, 3 stone and a bit, but am determined. How much did you all lose in your first week?

heavy · 18/09/2008 10:23

I didn't lose that much in my first week this time around - about 2lbs I think, but I wasn't doing it 100%. The girl I sit next to in class lost 8lb in her first week!

I hardly ever weigh anything - I guess I just choose the things that don't need measuring. I never have cereal - choose things like cereal bars that are already measured for me. If you eat mainly from the free food lists you won't need to weigh stuff at all.

Good luck for your first week!

sticktoit · 18/09/2008 14:07

I have a question for FairLady......was it you who said you like the mince meat lettuce wraps???

If so, what do you add to the mince to flavour it? I'm going to make them tonight for the first time and thought of adding garlic, peppers and maybe some worcester???

Thanks for any help

npg1 · 18/09/2008 19:21

Hi. Im new! Joined SW last night.

Had a good day so far I think but realised at lunchtime i had all my HE b's. This is what i have had today.

2 weetabix.
1 light alpen bar (not sure how many syns)
Poached eggs, bacon, quorn sausages, tomatoes and 2 slices nimble toast, with small amount of extra light flora.
grapes.
Mackeral salad.
Im having 1 or 2 small glasses of wine (have measured them!) Im on my first now, may not even have another.
Tonight will be hard as thats when I find I pick alot.

Any tips would be brill. I think I have only had 1 HE a so i could have a babybell later if I need to pick I guess?

andyrobo237 · 18/09/2008 20:09

I have a tin of chickpeas that have been in the cupboard for ages - any lunch suggestions for them - green day, obv. I will be at home next week, so would like to use them then!

Had an ok day - not mentioning the whole packet of Jaffa cakes that I have jsut eaten !!

FairLadyRantALot · 18/09/2008 20:58

hi to newbies on the thread

1LieIn- as already suggested, I am doing mostly freedfoods....things like cheese I do measure...but milk forinstance I don't measure....I tend to only use it for coffee/tea....

stickToIt...tis not me wiht lettuce wraps...I do however do stuffed peppers wiht mincemeat and I do pretty much what you say with the mincemeat, and it would work in lettuce-leafs, too.....I also use soya sauce often instead of salt and pepper and tabasco sauce can add a nice kick

npg1- Alpen Light Bars....2 can be a helathy extra, or they are around 3.5 syns, I believe per Bar....

andy- the moorish chickpea recipe sounds lush...will see if the recipe might be online
just looked and nope, not online....its a recipe in teh green cookbook....do you have that?

mandy99 · 18/09/2008 20:59

Just joining in - had my second child nine weeks ago and dying to lose some pregnancy weight. I reckon I have about 2 stone to lose. 3rd time joining slimming world so hoping to get back into the swing of things quickly

andyrobo237 · 18/09/2008 21:06

Sadly I dont have any cook books - will do a search on the internet - may stumble across it!

FairLadyRantALot · 18/09/2008 21:14

here is the recipe for moorish chickpeas ( I have not tried this myself...yet...but am plannign to do so the next few days, as it states you can serve it hot and cold and therefore might make an ideal packed lunch for me

Moorish chickpeas

-1 large onion, chopped
-2 garlic cloves, crushed
-1 green pepper, deseeded and sliced
-2x 397g/14oz cans chickpeas, drained
-397g/14oz can chopped tomatoes
-sa;t and freshly ground pepper
-1 tsp. each ground cumin, dried oregano and cayenne pepper
-198g/7oz can sweetcorn, drained

Place all teh ingredients , dxcept the sweetcorn, in a large saucepan. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 20minutes. Season to taste and stir in teh sweetcorn just beofre serving. Delicioous hot or cold, so it says

Freezer friendly
ready in 25 minutes
serves 4

andyrobo237 · 18/09/2008 21:16

Great - will try that next week and report back!

FairLadyRantALot · 18/09/2008 21:18

on the sw website there is a Lentil Dahl recipe, and I owuld think that would work equally well with Chickpeas.

kid · 18/09/2008 21:41

I'm still sticking to it, been following SW for 2 weeks and 6 days with only one small slip up!
Welcome to all the new comers.

nikkid21 · 19/09/2008 07:47

Hi to all of the new people.

npg1 - I pick in the evenings as well. Make sure that you have free snacks lined up in the fridge. A whole packet of sugar free jelly is 2 syns and I quite often eat the whole thing with a couple of muller lights on top over the course of an evening.

Another strategy is to save a healthy A & B so that you can have cheese and crackers. I have 4 of the dark rye ryvita with 3 babybel light for one healthy extra each. You can also have 28g of Boursin light for 3 syns.

Personally I try not to use syns for my evening picky sessions as it's too easy to spiral and eat eat everything in the house or slip to 20 syns rather than 10.

FairLadyRantALot · 19/09/2008 10:53

synfree Quiche is a good idea for evening snack-cravings

oh and apparently you can have 7 Ryvita Highfiber Crackerbread with 5 laughing cow Light triangles for an HE a+b

heavy · 19/09/2008 14:17

Haven't tried this myself but someone has told me you can bake chickpeas in the oven ( need to check regularly) season with maybe cajun seasoning and they are like dry roasted peanuts.
Same person also said you can do the same with lasagne sheets and they will turn out like tortilla chips - both free on green.

anyone tried it?

nikkid21 · 19/09/2008 15:52

Haven't tried the tortilla chips but they were talking about them in group. Apparently they are only free if you eat them with a dip (something quark based or tomato salsa to keep it free) Otherwise you eat too many.

kid · 19/09/2008 17:44

Oh, I like the idea of syn free crisp and nuts!
I will have to add them to my shopping list and have a look for the recipe

Tommy · 19/09/2008 17:47

fairlady - I think I'll give that a go too (without the sweetcorn which is the food of the devil..... ). I do a chickpea and spinach curry and could do with a few more chickpea recipes!

FairLadyRantALot · 19/09/2008 17:59

heavy, sounds interesting...are they using tinned chickpeas or dried ones that are soaked and then used?
Have also heard about teh lasagne sheet thing....but not sure how appealing they may be...

Tommy...there are a few recipes in that green cookbook for chickpeas....there is a chickpea and pepper curry, bombay bhajis and cucmber raita and chickpease with tomaotes...there are probably some in the other books, too....

sticktoit · 19/09/2008 18:40

Haven't had tortilla chips for sooo long! I used to work with someone who made these lasagne sheet things and used to love them. Never tried it myself mind you.

Still getting to grips with chickpeas .

FairLady - thanks for the stuffed pepper idea. We had the lettuce wraps and they were delish. DP had them with chips though . I had them on their own and was quite stuffed myself - get it!!

Hey to all newbies!!

andyrobo237 · 19/09/2008 19:41

hhmm - just tried the roasted chickpea thing with the 1/3 can that was letover - not the greatest thing on earth! Will use them in a salad tomorrow instead!

FairLadyRantALot · 19/09/2008 19:46

lol

Louise18 · 19/09/2008 21:45

Those Moorish chickpeas sound yummy! I'll definitely try them this coming week.

Have amazed myself by sticking to plan so far. Even tonight had 2 glasses of red wine but still within syns.

Bit worried though as tomorrow is my b'day and on Sunday parents are doing a BBQ for us. I just know the wine and desserts (and probably choccies for pressies) will be my downfall...

Any tips?

kid · 19/09/2008 22:29

Tomorrow is weigh in day but tonight I had a lamb shish kebab. I am guessing on a red day its not too bad but I am afraid to look.
I can add my syns for the week up can't I? (hopefully!)

I use on average 5 or 6 syns a day. At the weekend (friday and saturday), I go to about 20.

kid · 20/09/2008 10:06

I maintained this week. Could have been a gain as I had a couple of meals that I probably shouldn't have! I hope next week will be a different story.
I will be planning my meals for the week today and shall be sticking to them. I'll allow some treats for syns to stop me cheating and hopefully will be able to report a loss next week.
