Welcome Ambi and Zazen!

Zazen: could never do gluten free, loving my bread, pasta etc far too much, but am a recent yoga convert and have found it has done more for my body im the last six weeks than huge amounts of working out in the gym has ever done. Do you go to any classes or could you recommend a few dvd's?

twinklelittlestar · 22/07/2008 23:31

Good evening all!

welcome Ambi and Zazen lisalesslumpy that's cool you got to use crosstrainer. 380 kcals not bad at all. i think i am going to see how i get on a gym. thought about crosstrainer at home before but worried i wont use it. i had a step machine and didn't use that! but i do prefer cross trainer. just having the space as well i suppose. going to the gym is a bit of a palava though!

lostgirl what type of yoga do you do? DH always telling me of the benefits but i've never got around to trying it.

well today:
b: 50g sultana bran and ss milk
l: ham sandwich and 4 of my daughters mini cheese biscuits.
snack: strawberries
d:rice with tuna, tomato and bacon (med portion) & salad. some granola flapjack thing. I'd estimate about 150-200kcals.
a few spoonfuls of frozen fatfree raspberry yoghurt (i made).

see ya tomorrow
xx

LostGirl · 23/07/2008 06:50

Twinkle: I have no idea specifically what type of yoga it is I'm afraid, am not at all knowledgable on the subject. I discovered the Body in Balance Channel on sky (288) which shows loads of different yoga and other fitness type programmes. The best one I've found is called Shape Changing Intensive Yoga or something. I have it on sky plus and still cannot get all the way through it but has really started to flatten my stomach and has improved my arm strength amazingly. It also gets my heart rate up as well.

twinklelittlestar · 23/07/2008 23:22

LisaLessLumpy · 24/07/2008 07:32

Yesterday

2oz cornflakes and hot water
4 malted nimble bread with tuna and salad
Chicken peri peri and large salad

snacks
2 party rings, 1 rich tea biccie, ice lolly, some potato triangles.

Cross Trainer - 40mins 386 cals burnt, 2.93miles and out and about all afternoon with the boys to the park.

twinklelittlestar · 24/07/2008 23:57

Hi

Today I've had:
b:50g sultana bran and 1/4 ss milk
s amrganic bar (115 kcals; small pkt raisons; melon)
l:thai bn soup & slice wholemeal bread, slice ham; muller light and fruit;
s pm: pineapple, 1/2 wm roll and babybel light
d:fish risotto and salad; granola (approx 300 kcals worth) and petit filous.

Still snacks during the day. Dd has been ill with a cold the last couple of days so I have beenup longer and not napping during day so i think i've been more hungry and tired etc

Other news: I invested in some digital scales and unfortunately I found that they weigh 3 lbs heavier than my old ones! So i thought I was 9.2 I am actually 9.5 . Anyway, I suppose it's all relative but my new target weight will be 9 stone. So still plan to lose 1/2 stone to start at least.

BTW: Does anyone know how many calories are recommended to eat while bfeeding? WW said 25 points of bfeeding and also giving solids etc s(not sure approx how many calories this is does anyone know?). Tesco diets say that you don't need any extra calories at all and I think they sugg about 1, 200 (if i remember correctly). Kelly mom website says 1800 for bdeeding mums but I'm not sure whether this is for mums bfeeding before they have introduced solids etc. Can anyone clarify whether you need extra calls etc

See you all tomorrow

BTW Lisalesslumpy- hows it going? haven't been able to go to gym as dd ill. missing the cross trainer though!

twinklelittlestar · 25/07/2008 00:02

i meant do you need extra calories when bfeeding (while baby also having solids).

LostGirl · 25/07/2008 06:23

Hey Twinkle, don't worry about the scales, they all measure differently, you've still managed to lost the same amount of weight. I don't know much about breast feeding but I would have thought that you need extra caolories for as long as you are feeding, regardless of whether the baby is on solids as well. 1200 doesn't sound like enough as isn't that what your body needs for it just to function properly? So basically I don't know and am just wasting your time!! Sorry!

chefswife · 25/07/2008 06:30

i thought the average woman needed 2000 cals a day.

forget scales, specially if you start working out. muscle weighs more that fat.

LostGirl · 25/07/2008 06:37

Yes, 2000 calories is what the average active women needs to eat. I think 1200 calories is what your body needs to do all the basic things, so if you were just lying in bed all day not moving then you would still need 1200 calories, meaning that if you are looking after a baby AND breastfeeding then 1200 calories a day would be far too little. What seems to be working for me is this novel idea of eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full which is how I imagine I ate when I was younger before I got into stupid yoyo dieting and the whole poor body image era.

chefswife · 25/07/2008 06:50

yes i think you are right about the yo-yo

LisaLessLumpy · 25/07/2008 08:46

Morning all

Well I dragged my arse out of bed at 6.30am and went on the cross trainer Such hard work this morning, only mangaged 25 mins, burnt off 200 cals and 1.5miles. Will attempt to go on tonight too and do 40 mins.

Yesterday
B - approx 1oz shreddies and semi (Ds's leftovers) activia yoghurt.
L - 10oz jacket potato with cottage cheese and branston pickle
D - carrotts, broccolli, fine beans, 3 new potatoes and gravy.
Snacks throughout the day - Ice lolly, small banana, handful strawberries, sponge cake made some cake for a hen party I'm going to, they need to be flat to decorate so I ate the tops

No exercise last night but I did hoover the entire house and moved furniture etc

LisaLessLumpy · 25/07/2008 08:48

If I ate 2000 cals a day I would put on weight

I am tending to average around 1250 a day to lose the last half a stone.

LostGirl · 25/07/2008 09:00

I don't calorie count. Life's too short.

LisaLessLumpy · 25/07/2008 09:44

I have to otherwise I don't lose weight :D

Doesn't take long as I know general cals in most things

LostGirl · 25/07/2008 13:59

I used to be like that. Couldn't remember how to wire a plug but could tell you calorie content and amount of fat in just about every food item. Been there and had the eating disorder , took a long time to get out of the habit.

LisaLessLumpy · 25/07/2008 14:18

I could never have a food disorder, love my food far too much which is the problem I don't know the fat content in stuff, just general cals to keep an eye on what I eat. As soon as I take my eye off the ball so to speak the weight starts creeping on again

twinklelittlestar · 25/07/2008 21:59

Hi ya

thanks for your responses.

i do find that my relationship to food is not a straight forward one. i am trying to eat healthily. i think years of cal counting and dieting though i'm not sure that i always know when i am hungry and when to stop. not that that should mean that i don't aim for that. but i suppose as a default position i know if i want to lose weight then i need to watch what/how much i am eating iykwim. i know it does seem rather neurotic when i am writing it down! [Hmm] but at the same time it's helping me lose weight?! .

i have just started reading what looks like it might be a good book about this: i will post title later

Today:
b: 50g Sultana Bran and 1/4 ss milk
l:soup and slice wholemeal bread;muller yog and fruit; 1/2 crumpet nothing on it.
s:wholemeal roll; 1/2 peach;organic muslei bar;some pinenuts; muller yoghurt.
d:fish risotto and salad; muller and fruit

lisalesslumpy ur doin great on crosstrainer!

see ya later x

LisaLessLumpy · 26/07/2008 08:56

twinklelittlestar · 26/07/2008 23:49

MrsMcJnr · 27/07/2008 00:25

Hello ladies can I join? my DS is 6 months old and I need to shed some pounds. How are you going about it?

LisaLessLumpy · 27/07/2008 07:32

Hi MrsMcJnr of course you can join, the more the merrier. We are just watching what we eat it seems, trying to cut out the snacking which isn't easy ( I find myself finishing the boys leftovers I am counting calories and writing down what I have each day and trying to do more exercise.

Yesterday - would have been good if it hadn't have been for the bottle of fizz We had a bbq with the next door neighbours.

B - 1/2 banana (ds didn't want) 2 party rings and 1 pink wafer (ds had biccie tin out and it was just sitting there on the table whilst I was ebaying
L - 2 white rolls with ham and flora light
S - 1 wholemeal toast with lurpak (minus a thin bit off the end that ds2 had) 1 rocket ice lolly
D - 1 pork, 1 king prawn with peppers and mushrooms kebab with some golden rice and green salad.
1 bottle of Fizz

LostGirl · 27/07/2008 09:53

LLL: don't beat yourself up about the bottle of fizz. Far better to lose weight whilst still enjoying the things you love occasionally than to cut everything out completely. You're far more likely to stick with it that way. Besides, you're doing so well with your x-training you put me to shame, have not managed to motivate myself to do any exercise this week. Do you find it harder in this heat or is this just another of my feeble excuses?!

LisaLessLumpy · 27/07/2008 16:06

I find it incredibly hard to motivate myself in this heat
