On 6384 so far today. Was run director at my local parkrun so walked there did lots of walking around and then walked home through town to do a few bits. Meeting friends later so hopefully getting my 10k steps in today

Clearingaspace · 11/07/2026 13:15

Your doing a lot better with steps than me this week @Joolly2 the hot weather is lasting a crazy longtime

well done on park run directing @WorthySloth I have never been to park run

on track for 10k today as already at 8470 and going shopping with dd later for work experience outfits. She is not a sun lover so we are leaving it as late as possible.

WorthySloth · 11/07/2026 20:55

Ended the day on just over 13k after a trip to the beach with some friends 😊 absolutely lovely evening. Still hot tho 🤣🤣

Joolly2 · 11/07/2026 23:13

Only managed 6k today.
@WorthySloth how lovely to live near to a beach. A refreshing sea breeze would be so welcome right now.

Clearingaspace · 12/07/2026 00:11

16500 - clothes shopping is very good for getting steps in. Had some iced lattes to keep me going!

beach sounds so lovely @WorthySloth

@Joolly2 when does the plane to somewhere colder take off?

WorthySloth · 12/07/2026 07:36

Today is probably going to be quite low. I’m at work and sleeping in so won’t even have the walk home to top me up 🤣🤣

Onegramatatime · 13/07/2026 02:27

10th - 5081 steps
11th - 7961 steps
Today - 11638 steps

@Joolly2 , @Clearingaspace and @WorthySloth wow! you are really smashing it with your steps.

@10kstepsaday , just checking in. How are you doing?

I finished 'Where the Crawdads Sing' some 10 days ago. Very very interesting. Slow start but before I knew it, i was hooked.
Now reading 'The Retirement Plan' by Sue Hincenbergs. Wanted some light relief after 'Where the...' . It's doing exactly that but also quite engaging.

WorthySloth · 13/07/2026 09:42

Steps from last week. I’m actually happy with that with how hot it’s been. Let’s see what this week brings!

@Clearingaspace Helsinki take off Saturday return on 25th all for £241 return. Sounds like a bargain. However that is in the south and I want to go further north. The colder the better. Somewhere like Ivalo.
@Onegramatatime I've looked up The Retirement Plan sounds a fun read so added it to my list.
My steps for yesterday were 8k.
Woke up to a very cloudy morning today with a heck of a breeze. I was so cold I had to put a cardi on for the dog walk 😁. Since 10.30 the temperature has started to rise significantly ☹️. Now hiding in the house in the gloom.

10kstepsaday · 13/07/2026 15:50

Hello everyone! Well done on all your steps just had a read through to catch up.
Thanks for checking in @Onegramatatime
Had a emotional few days but todays a new week and a new day and a tiny bit cooler... so I'm feeling positive but its a rollercoaster of emotions atm.
I am going to look up The Retirement Plan book 😃add it to my TBR pile/list.

My steps that I havent recorded are:
Saturday - 5287
Sunday - 10, 749

Already hit the 10k for today too so that is good - I went for a 45 minute lunch time walk and read my kindle whilst walking, wasn't sure I would be able to do this but it was fine! Last week of school for the kiddies this week so enjoying the solo walks before I brace myself for 7 weeks of activities.

12775 today. Went out with my walking group. We were going to go for a paddle but the tide was too far in so had a beer instead 🍻

Clearingaspace · 14/07/2026 00:08

Very impressed by walking while reading @10kstepsaday

sounds a nice evening @WorthySloth

I am justbover 10k today and was 4 steps away from 14k yesterday

WorthySloth · 14/07/2026 21:28

7300 today. Too hot and sweaty to do more. Work tomorrow.

10kstepsaday · 14/07/2026 22:34

15, 189 today! Lovely cooler walk this morning before it got too hot again.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Onegramatatime · 15/07/2026 07:32

9452 steps yesterday.

Didn't realise i was 550 steps away from 10K. I would have done a circuit round the sitting room and kitchen to get it to 10K!😄

Yes, very impressive reading while walking @10kstepsaday .
@Clearingaspace , some great steps there. Well done.
Well done @WorthySloth .

@Joolly2 , how are you doing?

The weather is quite cool in the mornings here before 8am. It heats up pretty quickly after then but I have been lucky that where my home in situated there has been a cool-ish breeze which I can catch if i leave my front door and back door open - a sort of cross ventilation. So the house isn't getting too hot.

Joolly2 · 15/07/2026 21:40

Evening all,
Fell asleep on the sofa and forgot to post steps yesterday. Managed 8.5k. Also played badminton for an hour. It was horribly hot and sweaty. I looked like a pickled beetroot by the time it finished.

@10kstepsaday great step count.
@Onegramatatime agree, it's lovely first thing in the morning, very breezy the last few days, makes life so much more bearable. I've managed 11k today.

WorthySloth · 15/07/2026 21:44

6k today. Have been mostly sat in a car tbh so happy with that.

Onegramatatime · 15/07/2026 22:44

Kinda sad right now.
England lost to Argentina, we are out of the World Cup.

11K that's great @Joolly2. I admire that you played badminton for an hour. I have been boiling hot today. Badminton for an hour, that's some good calorie burn.

My steps today 13,402.

Clearingaspace · 16/07/2026 09:01

My kids aren’t in to football but they were excited to watch yesterday and were sad too - such a shame.

Ooh well done @Joolly2 / I can probably play badminton for about 3 minutes by which time I am pooped from picking up the shuttlecock constantly!

I am finding this heatwave a lot more tolerable - wonder if it’s partly getting used to it? Dh who is 10 years older can’t bear it though, this is meaning my steps are down as we are not consistently doing our walk together. We are also having annoying house issues dragging on and taking up time.

6660 yesterday 😳 lower than i expected but didn’t have a watch on so probably a bit more with house steps etc added on

WorthySloth · 16/07/2026 22:25

11200 today. That was hot and sweaty. And on a work day too!

10kstepsaday · 16/07/2026 22:31

Yesterday's steps was probably my highest ever yet - 18, 347 😁 I went for a 50 min walk after the school run and then did a walking workout in the evening. Double whammy!

Today not so good though, very tired and high sugar cravings ?? Only done 6.2K steps and had a nap.

Hey ho, never mind.
I do think it will be harder with the kids off school now. I might have to drag them round on some walks 🤣

Hi all, forgot to post yesterday tut tut, just managed to crawl over the line with a total of 10,107.
Total today may be lower. Attempted to take dog for his usual morning walk and he decided to lay down on the pavement and refused to move. We had only walked about 600 steps. 😁
@10kstepsaday well done that is an amazing total. My boys were reluctant walkers when younger so I had to make games/competitions to distract them. I gave them list of things to find. 5 different breeds of dogs, 3 cars red white blue. A road sign with a p in it. A bush with berries on it... you get the idea. Oldest son took it very seriously, and had a clipboard. Winner got to choose dinner. Probably wouldn't work with older children but it worked well for a couple of years.
@Clearingaspace badminton was probably a lot more leisurely than you are imagining 😂 professional badminton players wouldn't recognise it as the same game. Have to agree about the weather, I'm coping a lot better now.
@Onegramatatime impressive total, I think to burn calories I would have to put effort in. My effort was sadly lacking.
@WorthySloth another good total on a work day and in the heat.

WorthySloth · 19/07/2026 09:57

16476 yesterday 😊 tailwalker at parkrun then met a friend for a couple of drinks and a catch up which ended up dancing till 1am 🤣🤣 regretted that when my work alarm went off at 6:30am 😭😭

Midlifeshenanigans · 19/07/2026 18:46

Can I join please. Think I need to build up to 10,000 a day- my current average is only 4,800 😳 . So I thought I would say a minimum of 5,000 and average of 6,000 and then build up each week

Clearingaspace · 19/07/2026 22:42

Ooh @WorthySloth dancing sounds fun, I haven’t done late night dancing and early up for work in forever!

@Midlifeshenanigans 👋 welcome to the thread. Sounds a great plan and you will be feeling the benefit pretty quickly hopefully. Apparently 7-8k a day is where you get the most health benefits so even working up to that in time will be a boost!

18k is amazing @10kstepsaday - good luck for the holidays - I used to like them when kids were little, but definitely not helpful for steps, removing school runs etc!

my steps haven’t been amazing this week, but averaging at 9781, currently at 12864 today.
