Hello Again Everyone 🤩

Welcome to the May thread for recording your daily steps!
Everyone welcome, whatever your goal is and however you track it 😃

I feel May is going to be a trickier month for me, as I am on holiday for 2 weeks (and plan on spending most of it horizontal in the sun 🤣) however I will still be aiming for 10k where I can and joining in with the accountability.

This thread previously has been so motivational and encouraging so I just know May is going to be another awesome month for everyone, with lots of lovely sunny walks incoming!! ☀️

@Onegramatatime I did get some nice clothes however I am in a funk ATM with my weight and body - I know changing rooms are notoriously bad for this but trying on dresses for holiday and all made me feel so frumpy!

@Joolly2 where the crawdads sing is sat on my TBR pile!! I have heard it is very good! I think it's being made into a film?

Hi @Holymolymoo
A weighted vest! I have never thought about getting one of those but what a good way to increase calories burned/build muscle strength!

I’m starting lightly so I took out all the extra weights and just using the basic weight already in the vest which feels heavy enough for now while I work on just getting out and steps done - can then add in more as I get stronger.
I’m sure I saw one in Aldi middle aisle this week !

Onegramatatime · 04/05/2026 09:41

@Joolly2 , yes, it could be due to my exercising (some 15 - 20 minutes a day). Don't know if i am losing any fat!😆but ChatGPT agrees with you and agrees with @Yesreallyitsme because my August visitor arrived this morning. Took me a little by surprise as it usually arrives with clanging bells and lots of drama but it came a bit early & very silently though now I am in lots of pain! ChatGPT reassured me it could have been up to 2kg gain with all of the above. Honestly, ChatGPT is hilarious.

I saw the advert for Where the Crawdads Sing on Netflix or ITV sometime back, very interesting but couldn't watch it at the time. Didn't realise it was from a novel. How did you find reading it, @Joolly2 ? Was it emotional? Sad ending?

@10kstepsaday , I know what you mean. I often feel that in changing rooms. Any option to buy them, to take them home and try them on in a relaxed setting when you are feeling good with yourself?
Weighted vest.. ideas.

Joolly2 · 04/05/2026 12:02

@Onegramatatime as I was reading it my emotions were on a roller coaster. The injustice of the way black people were treated, the prejudice of people against anyone different - the marsh people, the shocking lack of concern for a 6 year old child left to fend for herself when abandoned by her parents etc etc.
I much prefer to read the book and not watch the films of books. I get cross when people are not how I imagined them, or bits are left out.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 04/05/2026 12:10

Thanks all for the good wishes, my 10 went rrally well! It was bloody hard, and I was faster than planned due to my friend jollying me along. I really had to dog deep! Finished the day just over 20k!

Joolly2 · 04/05/2026 13:05

@Illbefinejustbloodyfine congratulations, a real achievement.

Onegramatatime · 04/05/2026 16:02

@Joolly2 , i am the same. I prefer to read the books than watch it on screen. I feel they never quite represent the characters properly and the stories are usally adjusted/edited for screen.
If i read the book, i will not watch the movie or tv series. If i watch the screen version, i will not read the book.
I recently finished an emotional book 'The names' by Florence Knapp. I need a bit of time to recover from it. Build back some resilience. Currently, on 'Butter' by Asako Yukuzi. I don't get a lot of time free to be able to read, so a book can take me a while. I have been averaging about 16 books/year. Before kids, i read a new book every few days.

Congratulations @Illbefinejustbloodyfine . Well done! Was that your first 10K? (Apologies, i can't remember if you said). Impressive.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 04/05/2026 19:36

Thank you! It wasnt my first as such, but my first in about 15 years! I only started running again in january.

Im the same if I have read a book, i generally dont like to watch it.

@Onegramatatime how us Butter? I havent read that or The Names as yet. I also like to alternate between easier and heavier reads.

10kstepsaday · 04/05/2026 22:08

@Illbefinejustbloodyfine well done on your 10K race!!!

Ah see I will always read the book first, then curiously watch it to see how it has been changed/adapted/completely messed up 🤣
Lessons in Chemistry on apple TV was a major let down for me as I loved the book, I didn't finish that series!

7K today, another nice slow day, much needed.
I did my hot yoga class, it was bloody amazing!!
I was slightly nervous as I haven't done a proper yoga class in years, and never a hot one, and this was a 60 minute class so was a little worried I wouldn't get through it or would pass out in the heat 🤣 however it was so so good, so relaxing and the instructor was so helpful and calming! I will definitely go again 🧘‍♀️

I am WFH a lot this week, so going to get back to the lunch time walks to get those steps ticked off ✅

Just found you all again!

Still not got to 10k but I'm slowly increasing and today was a good day.

Onegramatatime · 04/05/2026 23:59

8314 steps.
Horrible period pain. So tried not to move much.
Hi, @MoneyJo .
@10kstepsaday ,what's a hot yoga class? Done in a steam room?
@Illbefinejustbloodyfine , wow! Again great job on your 10K. I am finding it interesting. Not a storyline i have read before and i like that. Curious to see where it goes. It took me a while to get into it.

Joolly2 · 04/05/2026 23:59

14,761 is my total for today, made up for Sunday.
Loved the book Lessons in Chemistry, very quirky. I have added The Names and Butter to my must read list. Reading a Crime book now.

Happy with a 10.8k steps total for me today, on a Bank Holiday doing lots of sorting out of stuff at home, building flat packs and entertaining the children.

Holymolymoo · 05/05/2026 00:03

Evening all, did it! Had to run around a few mins inside and then overdid it!
did a 45 min walk outside with weighted vest on and was huffing and puffing away but cooked and cleaned my way to the final count!

10kstepsaday · 05/05/2026 08:18

Welcome again @MoneyJo and well done on keeping on!

@Onegramatatimeit was done in a hot 'pod' which was basically an inflatable room kept at 37 degrees!

Well done everyone! Sun is shining today, I will be going for a lunch time walk!!

Hi all, great to see everyone’s updates. I’ve managed 10k each day so far, but not much beyond that! Will someone come and slap me until I do some weights or go for a run please?

10kstepsaday · 05/05/2026 20:32

12K today! Whoop!!

@Yesreallyitsme you can do it, we are cheering you on 👏

Another treadmill run tonight takes me to 12.5k steps. Managed a couple of short outdoor walks too which helps a lot, both for steps and a break from the WFH set up.

Onegramatatime · 05/05/2026 22:31

@Holymolymoo , great job with your weighted vest walk. Do you vary your weights? What got you into using weighted vest? My DB uses weighted vest for his training (military), so I thought i was so cool when i got weighted anklets/bracelets to use in my workouts! ( i saw it in a workout video!🤦‍♀️😳) Don't ask how many times i have used it.
@Yesreallyitsme , you are doing great. Do you have a set weights routine you do? Maybe pick another one randomly, see if it will motivate you to do a session?
@10kstepsaday , well done. The hot yoga sounds really interesting. Like you, i would have thought it will get too hot! But seems it didn't.
@SilenceInside , well done.

I was feeling quite rubbish today. Didn't move much. 6987 steps today.

Slow day today, with lots of small jobs in the car and didn’t get to do one long walk, which ive been trying to do. Still way better than it used to be so seeing it as progress!

@Onegramatatime i saw the vests on social media and thought I’d try it out. Bought it about 6 months ago and used a couple of times 🤪

I’ve taken out all the extra weights so just trying to get used to wearing it on walks with the basic weight of the vest. I Keep meaning to wear it around the house too but forget - thanks menopause!

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 05/05/2026 23:34

Fell a bit short today but not surprised. 2 hours in the car, 2 hours sitting and waiting, then 2 hours of contemplation when i got home. (Financial dispute, divorce...)

I was due to run but hadnt eaten at sll and felt incredibly nauseous.

Evening all, after a quick gallop round the living room I've made it to 10,051.
@Illbefinejustbloodyfine that sounds so stressful, you did so well to even get 9,599. Be kind to yourself.
