Starting Blood Sugar diet today

Fast800goingforit · 16/03/2026 08:07

I need a massive kick up the backside, have a big event in early May and have been finding it so difficult to motivate myself for anything really. I'm a member of a great small class gym which provides dietary support, but stress and sleep problems have destroyed my motivation.

So today I start the 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet as I've completely lost my grip on any kind of sensible eating and hopefully will lose some weight quite quickly and regain motivation.

I've been drinking too much wine, eating too much chocolate, etc. Past couple of weeks I've also strayed into just eating too much full stop. As the days get longer I'm going to get out in the garden and rediscover my mojo. Please wish me luck!

I’ve found it brilliant as a reset previously. I need to plan the meals to make sure I am keeping on track but it’s quite doable when you do that. Good luck.

Fast800goingforit · 16/03/2026 10:15

Thank you @Fasterthan40

I did it about ten years ago and was really happy with the results. Unfortunately I failed to then transition to the 5:2 or Mediterranean style diet. I'm now menopausal, bad habits crept in over time and enough is enough!

I'm starting with an apple and almond butter. Keeping it simple.

I did the blood sugar diet years ago, lost about 6st and kept it off - I am trying (and have been for ages) to lose the baby weight - 9lbs maybe BSD is the way forwards again...

Baby is now 4 by the way!

I do a bastardised version but might need to go back to basics to lock in!

Fasterthan40 · 16/03/2026 10:46

You’ve inspired me to do it again! Also menopausal and significantly podgier than I would like to be. Let’s hope we are looking sleek (and aching less) by the summer!

Fast800goingforit · 16/03/2026 11:35

Great! My goal is to lose two and half stone. I've been kidding myself, despite my clothes indicating otherwise, and I've put on a stone since the beginning of the year. Yikes. Weighed myself this morning. I'm glad I have a plan.

I am also going to take body measurements as it can be really good motivation if you ever feel the scales aren't moving to know your flab body is shrinking.

I would like to lose 9lbs - to get back to pre baby weight, then we will see maybe another 7-9lbs to get me back to my original lowest weight.

I will say I make it harder on myself because I also don't eat meat, I forgo my morals in BSD and I do eat tinned tuna because I can't get the protein up enough otherwise in such limited calories!

Would you use collagen powder? I have it to try to stop wrinkles escalating but it is high in protein. Good shout on tuna, am not a big fan but might stock up. I had Korean jammy eggs with lettuce, cabbage and cucumber for breakfast and lunch will be Greek yogurt, collagen powder and chia/linseeds. Beef, bok choy and brocolli for supper I think.

HairsprayBabe · 16/03/2026 12:16

I do take marine collagen too! Ideally I would be a "proper" vegetarian but I can't live off veg an hummus like I used to! weight loss is so much harder now I'm in my 30s - i lost that 6st in a year when I was 25! Crazy!

Fast800goingforit · 16/03/2026 12:19

Lunch is going to be smoked salmon, cottage cheese and sauerkraut. Dinner will be chicken breast and veg.

I've been really struggling with breakfast and lunch recently which has made things out of kilter.

HairsprayBabe · 16/03/2026 12:20

I prefer a two larger meal structure so I have always skipped/fasted over breakfast then gone for a slightly larger lunch and dinner. I am not a big breakfast person in general so it works well for me.

I am having a tomato basil rocket salad for lunch and with cottage cheese instead of burrata/mozzarella then dinner is cauliflower curry, with chick peas and tempeh

Fasterthan40 · 16/03/2026 13:43

They both sound good. Will add cottage cheese and cauliflower to tomorrow’s grocery order. I roasted cauliflower yesterday with chicken and used that to add interest to my meal.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2026 17:53

I’m same as you, and it’s really starting to show on me now. I lost a lot with the bSD a few years ago but I don’t think I’d manage on 800 calories these days, I can barely stick to 1500.

Fast800goingforit · 16/03/2026 19:43

My thinking is that the rapid results will help with motivation and I'm re-reading the book and using it as inspiration.

Tomorrow will be apple and almond butter again for breakfast and Mediterranean platter for lunch. I picked up some houmous and some German style rye bread on my way home as I need easy things.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2026 19:52

I definitely recall finding that once you get into it, it’s manageable , maybe I should just psych myself up for another round. I have a very stubborn stone to shift and I’m really struggling with it, and sugar definitely isn’t helping me

Fasterthan40 · 16/03/2026 20:26

Good idea to pick up the book again for inspo. I had an apple for “pudding” this evening and can’t recall if permitted or not. But going to switch off my ‘phone now as another goal is to be blue light free for at least the last hour of my day. Keep reading about how sleep will help lose my belly fat.

Fasterthan40 · 17/03/2026 13:14

Managed Pilates and a slow dog walk today (with friend who has a slow dog, mine just runs around like an idiot). Felt hungry after lunch (kimchi, spinach and eggs) so had a cardomom chai- mostly water, a little milk. Debating starting running again. Have achey hips but wonder if more strenuous movement might loosen them up a bit. At the moment I just walk/pilates/swim. I’d love a Zumba or shuffle style dance class but none nearby. What are you all doing for exercise?

Rose Elliot’s “The vegetarian low carb diet” is worth buying if you want to follow a veggie diet and give up the fish.

i lost 6kg in about 7 weeks. I wasn’t at all hungry and managed to get a minimum of 60g protein a day. It was usually closer to 70/75g. I was on 20g carbs. I’m now on a maintenance version and maintaining the loss. I didn’t use protein powder as I don’t like taking UPFs. I did increase my tofu consumption though.

Fast800goingforit · 17/03/2026 14:40

Feeling positive about this. Just had my Medi platter for lunch.

I go to the gym and do weight training three times a week. Will see how I get on doing this as well. I try to walk a fair amount too.

Fasterthan40 · 17/03/2026 15:06

I am debating returning to the gym. I was doing small group personal training with weights but just kept being felled by injuries. But I miss it! Maybe losing the weight will help avoid injuries

Fast800goingforit · 17/03/2026 17:10

That's what I do. Weight bearing exercise is really important as we get older as we lose muscle mass and for women it helps strengthen bones. But you didn't need me to tell you that. A good trainer can always suggest different exercises to avoid exacerbating injuries.

My concern is that I won't be fuelling myself enough - in which case I may drop a session a week for a few weeks.

OP posts:
Fasterthan40 · 17/03/2026 20:30

Tbf I was paying an absolute fortune and they are excellent trainers but I am truly wonky and even the adapted exercises hurt. So am currently paying for chiro, sports massage, PT stretching and mobility and Pilates to try to fix me, but I am going to have to work out how to do weight bearing soon, hopefully with less lard to move about the gym .
Anyway, managed a beef, bone broth and choy sum (everyone else had with wide rice noodles) tonight and followed with my chopped up red apple and a handful of hazelnuts pudding again! Was planning on an oxtail stew for family tomorrow evening but weather looks much too nice for that. Debating grilled mackerel or pan fried turkey steaks with jacket potatoes for tomorrow’s family supper. Or I have pork ribs cooked for the rest of the family but I would have eggs or tofu instead as they are really dense in calories. And I am avoiding the carb element of each meal as much as I can. Now shattered and grumpy and off for a bath and early night.

Oh on the fuelling, when I did BSD in my late 30s, found it okay to do circuits three times weekly and a few kettle bell classes. Body definitely adapted fine. I was surprised.

Fast800goingforit · 17/03/2026 21:00

Thing is I'm in my 50s now, don't sleep well, etc, etc. Anyway, I've been this evening.

I'm going to have rye bread, poached eggs and rocket for breakfast tomorrow.

I'm trying to scrape together bits from what we have in before shopping yesterday I made a white bean and cottage cheese garlic dip with veggie sticks and a few seed crackers for lunch

Then dinner was just Quorn fillets and veg, I am glad it is starting to get sunnier again, diet food is so much less enjoyable in miserable weather! At least now I can pretend I am a supermodel in Monaco living off fresh air and cottage cheese!

Fasterthan40 · 18/03/2026 09:47

Oh dip is a good shout for lunch. I have lots of bold beans to use up and lots of herbs. Difficulty will be not gouging in half a bottle of olive oil to make it silkier! Love the idea of channeling super model vibes (as I sit at my desk wearing my hoodie).
