Starting Blood Sugar diet today

Fast800goingforit · 16/03/2026 08:07

I need a massive kick up the backside, have a big event in early May and have been finding it so difficult to motivate myself for anything really. I'm a member of a great small class gym which provides dietary support, but stress and sleep problems have destroyed my motivation.

So today I start the 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet as I've completely lost my grip on any kind of sensible eating and hopefully will lose some weight quite quickly and regain motivation.

I've been drinking too much wine, eating too much chocolate, etc. Past couple of weeks I've also strayed into just eating too much full stop. As the days get longer I'm going to get out in the garden and rediscover my mojo. Please wish me luck!

I have just today had a delivery of some weights equipment to do some home workouts as I can’t really fit in any more classes. I’m training for a marathon in October as well so I will need to factor that in as well. I think that’s why I want to do something a bit strict and focussed now to try to get some weight off because once my training picks up I will need to eat.

it’s hard to hit the protein though on reduced calories. I had 104g protein and 80g carbs today but I have had 1200 cals. I also recall from last time that I also need to watch my fat intake, if I don’t eat enough I get very cranky and irritable!

Fast800goingforit · 26/03/2026 08:25

Focus on your protein and calories then. Breakfast yesterday of fat free Skyr, protein powder and frozen blueberries plus a coffee with almond milk and collagen which I may be wasting my money on was 55g protein, 24g carbs and 4g fat. Lunch had 21g protein (cottage cheese and smoked salmon) and dinner 54g (chicken breast escalope) Overall for the day was 817 calories.

Once I start tracking I am horrified by the calories in things!

we are having wraps/fajitas for dinner, I'll be doing lettuce wraps,
I'm having porridge for lunch (steel cut oats) with some stewed apple and greek yogurt

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/03/2026 06:42

I’ve just weighed in and I am down 4lbs since starting on Monday! That’s really incredible, I haven’t lost that in a month for a very long time, never mind a week!
The weekend will be trickier though because I leave my job today, I’ve been made redundant. Under normal circumstances I would probably drink wine and eat rubbish but I’m not really fancying that today.
i have already got dinner out of the freezer, I will have my usual chia and yoghurt for breakfast, a light lunch maybe boiled eggs. And then dinner I have a burger which I am just going to have with loads of veg (slightly weird meal but I’m trying to use up what’s in the freezer!)

happy Friday everyone

I was interested until I saw 800 calories!
That’s not sustainable for me.
I’ve been trying to stick to 1400 a day with an emphasis on keeping refined sugar intake low.
I’m menopausal and started strength training a few months ago as well as Pilates and Yoga which is making a huge difference..maybe not reflected on the scales!
I’ve lost 5lb in 5 weeks and, like the OP, have an event to work towards.
Nutracheck has been useful.

Fast800goingforit · 27/03/2026 15:25

It's sustainable if you put your mind to it. After the first couple of days you don't feel hungry. It's for anywhere from two weeks to eight weeks. It's not designed to be long term. It's a reset that gives rapid results with proven health benefits, the idea being that you then do 5:2 or simply follow a Mediterranean diet after. If you're very physically active I get it might not suit you.

I stayed at my parents' last night and took my own breakfast of Skyr with me, swerved the toast and cereal! Lunch was a toasted slice of German rye bread, guacamole (Holy Mole small pot) and poached eggs.

No dinner?

I had dinner before I went there last night if that's what you're asking?

@RipplePlease I am not doing 800 calories, its too low for me. However I am such a terrible dieter I actually aim for 800 calories and end up around 1100-1200 (which is still actually really low for me) but the med style foods mean I am managing to stick to that rather than 1500/1600 cals. I weighed this morning and i have lost 4lbs this week which I am thrilled with. Next week will be more realistic as mostly this week is just bloat / water weight.

what’s everyone’s weekend plans and how will you adapt them to the bSD?

I left my job today after a long drawn out redundancy process, and I’m tempted to have a glass of wine or 2 tonight, but I will see how I feel later. I’ve got the dreaded bootcamp 12 week fitness test at my class tonight 🤮

I’ve got a burger and brocolli for dinner (using up freezer stock) and my calories are quite high today anyway, although carbs are really low. Other than that I have no plans for the weekend that will involve food. A walk with my friends tomorrow, and ideally a long run Sunday.

RipplePlease · 27/03/2026 17:53

@thenewaveragebear1983
Wow, that’s brilliant. Well done 👏🏻

Fasterthan40 · 27/03/2026 21:32

i hope that your bootcamp workout went well. 4lbs and an annoying job down is a good start to the weekend! I didn’t manage to eat u ntil supper time today and was very tired and hungry which didn’t make for food choices. Back on it tomorrow and I will carve out meal times.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/03/2026 14:45

Oh @Fasterthan40it was hideous! I love bootcamp as soon as I’m finished but for the entire session I am questioning my life choices 100%. I still prefer it to a traditional gym though! This was the fitness test. First it’s 5 minutes of full chest to floor burpees (last time I managed 45, this time I did 50), then the 2nd part is 400m run/ 25 burpees/400 m run/ 50 lunges/ 400 m run/ 50 squat jumps/ 400m run. Last time I did it in 19.54, this time I did it in 14.30 - a good improvement over 12 weeks considering I only go once a week.

I did have a bit of a cheat night last night to celebrate leaving my job, I had a couple of glasses of wine which obviously took my calories way over. But my total week is still in deficit. i’m actually looking forward to my official Monday weigh in this week!

That sounds amazing!! Well done you, what an achievement. I hate burpees with all my soul, 50 in five minutes is phenomenal! You definitely earnt your wine.

Fast800goingforit · 28/03/2026 19:16

@thenewaveragebear1983 - great firness improvement! I hate burpees.

I got my steps in today with errands and shopping. Brunch out was 400 calories. I managed to narrowly avoid a car crash very near home on my way back from shopping. Some stupid person pulled out of a side road only having looked one way. How I managed to stop and not hit her, I don't know.

@Fast800goingforit so scary when that happens, hope you are ok.

tonight I had a lamb steak and asparagus 😋 I’ve had a really busy day, went for a long walk with my friend and dogs, and then went round town with ds. I bought some nice new sportswear which I really was overdue. Tomorrow is long run today so tonight I have had more calories and higher carbs than really would be allowed on the plan. If it’s going to work for me I am going to have to modify in that way as otherwise I won’t be able to train properly. But it might affect my losses - will have to see how it plays out

Fast800goingforit · 28/03/2026 20:41

I've had dinner within plan, but then half a bottle of red wine and an individual tiramisu. Back on it tomorrow.

Hi everyone,
I find the weekends so tough with the kids being so little I end up unplanned and thats where things go tits up

I don't find 800 to be too low but i have never been a breakfast fan a 400 cal meal isnt miserably low - the snacks are my downfall!

Did ok this weekend, but far to much unplanned picking and nibbles here and there are probably not going to give me the result i want - need to get my head in the game!

riversflows · 30/03/2026 13:34

Do you have a link to the plan please ?

riversflows · 30/03/2026 13:51

Ty @HairsprayBabe

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2026 18:21

My weigh in this morning was -3lbs which is really good for me and I can’t remember the last time I had a week as good as that. I did have a few more snacks over the weekend, and I didn’t stick to 800 calories but just kept the carbs under 60g

absolutely starving now though. Breakfast I had chia and coconut milk with fruit, lunch I made scotch eggs so I had one of those and dinner is a lamb and veg tray bake. I went to bootcamp but it was a very low intensity deload week, now just waiting for my dinner to cook 😋

I’m going to stay on plan till Friday, we are away this weekend so there may be a few extras, but hopefully if I get 4 good days in I might get another couple of pounds off on my weigh in!

Fast800goingforit · 31/03/2026 12:24

That's great @thenewaveragebear1983. I'm down another kg, which after the weekend, too much snacking on almonds all week and not much activity is something I'll take! I'm trying just to do two meals, lunch and dinner, each day this week. Last night we had chicken shawarma using a Maggi air fryer spice mix which was dead easy and really tasty.

OP posts:
Fast800goingforit · 03/04/2026 17:10

Weighed myself this morning and I've lost 5.3kg/11.5lbs which I'm delighted with, but more to go and likely to be tougher. I'm taking this weekend off as we've family coming to stay and I've already started on the cooking...I'll be back on it from Tuesday. I can now do up the belt on my jeans in the next hole which is great. Have a great long weekend if you're not working.

How has the Easter weekend gone for everyone? Mine has been one of two halves- lots of exercise, hilly walks and a couple of runs. But food has not been bsd compatible and there’s been a lot of it!

I’m all ready to restart tomorrow though, in fact I am actually looking forward to it. My next holiday is 7 weeks away and I would like to lose at least 7lbs by then from my pre Easter weight. Totally doable if i knuckle down and focus myself.
