Starting Blood Sugar diet today

Fast800goingforit · 16/03/2026 08:07

I need a massive kick up the backside, have a big event in early May and have been finding it so difficult to motivate myself for anything really. I'm a member of a great small class gym which provides dietary support, but stress and sleep problems have destroyed my motivation.

So today I start the 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet as I've completely lost my grip on any kind of sensible eating and hopefully will lose some weight quite quickly and regain motivation.

I've been drinking too much wine, eating too much chocolate, etc. Past couple of weeks I've also strayed into just eating too much full stop. As the days get longer I'm going to get out in the garden and rediscover my mojo. Please wish me luck!

Ooh didn’t realise that kalettes were already in season, that’s good news.

Fasterthan40 · 22/03/2026 12:35

Early morning dog walk with skylarks overhead! Have had a home made vanilla protein shake (collagen tastic) and now eggs, cauliflower and spring greens. Plus a piece of 100% cacao chocolate.
Meanwhile I am making such nice food for my sporty kids: so far today I’ve given them hot cross bun french toast, date and banana protein shakes, houmous, crudités and quesadillas and then brown sugar boba milk teas. And then I’ll prep a big evening meal for them and DH and I will focus mainly on veg and a bit of chicken. But I have to say that I am sleeping so well. Which is a big incentive, just need to stop being achey.

Fast800goingforit · 23/03/2026 08:15

Drum roll please: weighed myself this morning and I have lost 4kg/8.8lb. I'm delighted, but know a concerted effort is still needed

How's everyone else doing?

Hope everyone had a good weekend, I was mostly on track, till I forgot saturday lunchtime and had half a pack of pombears the kids had abandoned oops!

Did pliates on Sunday and lots of walking - weighing in tomorrow

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/03/2026 09:09

I am going to start today, I leave my job on Friday and then have 2 weeks off before I start my new role. I figured that’s an optimal 3 weeks to just get on with it, get my head down and maybe lose a few pounds. Half a stone would be lovely. Easter weekend away will be my only curve ball, but actually we’re going self catering and I’ve not bought and Easter egg for me so there’s not actually anything really, except wine.

starting weight 11.5
menu is Greek yog, chia, raspberries
dinner will be chicken thighs with lots of salad and veg.

Fast800goingforit · 23/03/2026 10:17

I'm carrying on until Easter weekend when we have family staying. I will pick it up again afterwards. I've got a big event coming up in early May so my aim is to lose as much towards the two and half stone as I can by then.

Great work on your initial loss btw! that is a great start - channelling similar vibes for myself tomorrow!

Fast800goingforit · 23/03/2026 10:32

Thank you. It definitely gets easier after the first few days. There's been some slippage too, but I think the earlier stages are more forgiving!

I have my fingers crossed for you.

Amazing weight loss! Congratulations.
I am not weighing myself as I know from experience that I do better just concentrating on input (lower food intake) rather than output which I cannot control.
So nice to be out walking in the sunshine!! My house has been cleaned top to bottom and I am feeling very pleased with life!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/03/2026 06:39

I had a good first day yesterday, I had quite a lot more than 800 calories but a lot less than my normal attempt at a deficit, and 60g carbs. I’m going to try the same strategy again: I waited as long as possible for my breakfast which was chia seeds, yoghurt and fruit, then just had a very small lunch (snack really) and my evening meal. Tonight I’m having a portion of chilli, grated cheese and veg. That should come in at 800 total, but yesterday I did end up on 1000 by the time I added milk and other bits and some fruit.

do any of you follow the advice in the book to weigh daily at first?

Fasterthan40 · 24/03/2026 12:09

Sounds like a great start. I did weigh daily when I did it before but found it tricky when it plateaued or went up briefly, hence input only. Has been a hectic start to my week but I am making the most of easy wins like eggs and cooking extra veg to include in lunches etc.. Have made oxtail for tonight so I am glad the weather now suits it. But I am already missing the sunshine.

Honestyboxy · 24/03/2026 12:13

Can someone link to the book please?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/03/2026 18:44

I’ve had another good day today. I forgot how much energy I have when I cut carbs though, I’m buzzing through the day 🤣
Today I had chia and yoghurt with fruit, then at lunch I went for a run, and at a tin of tuna with mayo, grated cheese and cucumber with peppers. It was a big bowlful and took ages to eat! I’m now sitting in my car while my son plays football in the pouring rain and wind. Dinner will be chilli, cheese and veg. Coming in at 1000 cals today, and 60g carbs. I do feel hungry now but actually not ravenous.

Fasterthan40 · 25/03/2026 06:43

Just fitted into a new to me pair of trousers from Vinted. Definitely feeling like my usual clothes are a bit baggier. Very cheering feeling and I am less achey too which is a massive win. Perimenopause has not been a good time for me despite ALL the HRT! But I think a lot of the aches and pains are from the extra weight. So if I can drop 6-10kg I will be delighted. That would get me easily into a size 12- which will probably be how I assess my success. Nice spring weather has been replaced by non stop rain. DH on dog walking duty today so I shall use the exercise bike I think.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/03/2026 08:37

Me neither @Fasterthan40, I don’t feel I necessarily gained weight on HRT but I think my metabolism has slowed down and it’s very difficult to lose it now. Plus I have slowed down, I don’t seem to do anything fast these days!

beautiful sunny morning here, walked the dog 2 miles, and prepped my chia seeds and yogurt which I will try to resist until around 10.30 I think. Lunch will be chicken thigh with salad, and dinner I have chicken and/or halloumi in a gluten free pitta with cheese and brocolli. Should come in at around 900 calories and 40g carbs

Fasterthan40 · 25/03/2026 09:12

@thenewaveragebear1983yes slowing down is exactly it. Very annoying. I want to get back to bouncing around but feel like maybe those days are gone. I had eggs, tomatoes and greens for breakfast, lunch will be collagen and kefir smoothie and supper is chicken laksa- I’ll just have bean sprouts and leave the noodles to the kids and DH.

Fasterthan40 · 25/03/2026 09:13

Meant to say I am trying to leave 4 hours clear between each meal as I noticed I have fallen into the trap of nibbling my way through the day so this will be a useful reset and almost the 16:8 thing too.

HairsprayBabe · 25/03/2026 09:49

I am 3lbs down since starting - bery happy with that although i know most of it is water at this point
:)

Take the win!!

Fast800goingforit · 25/03/2026 15:13

How's everyone getting on? I'm feeling very positive about this and have got into it. Tonight dinner will be a chicken escalope, which DP also loved last time so that's a win.

I think MM looked into metabolism and it's not that it slows down, more that we become less active. With peri and menopause, with the hormonal up and downs, aches and pains plus poor sleep and it's easy to see why that might be. Plus we lose muscle mass as we age so become less efficient at burning calories from food.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/03/2026 18:18

I’m also feeling positive, I’ve done 3 really good days. I’m not getting to 800 but I am hitting 1000 ish which is a good deficit for me and keeping the carbs low. I ran today and my legs were like lead but that could be diet and also I have done a few this week. I need to drink more water I think so I will get a few pints down this evening.

Fast800goingforit · 25/03/2026 19:20

Just been to the gym. I've been snacking a bit which I want to knock on the head. Nothing horrendous, but I can probably accelerate results if I stop. Goji berries are like little toffees, but far less calorific. Very easy to eat a lot of!! Tonight I'll have a Spanish mint tea instead.

I feel like my metabolism is absolutely screwed from years of dieting. I have a sedentary job but I am active, but not as much as a few years ago. My lean muscle is much less as well. I do a couple of runs a week, a strength bootcamp type class or two, and I walk every day with the dog. One thing I do realise when I do a proper diet like this though is how much I must actually be eating without realising. I could easily have had 500-600 cals more today if I’d eaten everything i thought about.

Fast800goingforit · 25/03/2026 20:36

If you track what you're eating and drinking you see how it can quickly add up. You do sound active though. Maybe add a strength class to help build muscle? You'll need to make sure you're eating plenty of lean protein too.
