Starting Blood Sugar diet today

I need a massive kick up the backside, have a big event in early May and have been finding it so difficult to motivate myself for anything really. I'm a member of a great small class gym which provides dietary support, but stress and sleep problems have destroyed my motivation.

So today I start the 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet as I've completely lost my grip on any kind of sensible eating and hopefully will lose some weight quite quickly and regain motivation.

I've been drinking too much wine, eating too much chocolate, etc. Past couple of weeks I've also strayed into just eating too much full stop. As the days get longer I'm going to get out in the garden and rediscover my mojo. Please wish me luck!

Okay so I'm now 9kg down. Yippee! In a previous post when I said I'd lost 8kg, it turned out it was one of those weird times when you think wow when you step on the scales but then next day when I weighed myself it was more like 6kg lost and it took a few weeks until the scales actually showed 8kg off consistently...But it spurred me on.

I've found it easier to eat two meals a day with a high protein content. Anyway I've now lost 9kg or 20lbs. It's showing and I'm pleased. I'm still over a stone heavier than I'd like to be and in the 4 weeks before we go on holiday I'd really like to lose 4kg. We'll see. I've got a big weekend coming up and in a couple of weeks I'm away for work. I've started pilates and that's really helped my back.

If anyone else is still doing this, how are you getting on?

I'm just starting now but using the Fast800 books (assume the recipes are similar to BSD?) and looking to lose 10kg so this is super motivating!

Oh that's great. Yes they are. I've found that just eating more veg with dinner is really helpful. DP doesn't like things like green beans, asparagus, spinach, but they're great to fill up on. I'm also careful to make sure I have enough to drink.

What sort of meals do you eat for the two meals a day?

Fast800goingforit · 08/07/2026 11:47

Fruit, skyr and protein powder for lunch. Veg based snacks - e.g. cucumber and tzatziki or carrot sticks and hummus if I want something. Dinner is meat or fish and veg. I'll have a Solero if I want something else. I've also had things like a snack pack of popcorn. I'm not rigidly sticking to 800 calories and this is a short term thing. For me I find two meals easier to do consistently. Having the same thing on repeat cuts down the food noise for me too.

Also I will add that I have successfully lost weight over a longer period on a programme the gym I go to runs where the calories are quite a bit more, focussed on lean protein. But, I needed a kick up a backside because I'd put back on the weight I'd lost, largely down to stress and couldn't find the motivation. My activity levels had dropped too. I'm feeling much more like myself now and I recognise I need to find a way to deal with stress better.

I'll add that I'm not eating plain chicken and fish. Last night it was M&S Greek style chicken thighs.

I'm now 10kg down, so not quite at my goal for going on holiday, but pretty close. I was away with work earlier in the week and managed not to fall off the wagon with the buffet lunch. In fairness it was a pretty healthy selection.

How is anyone else doing?
