Anyone want to join me in some motivational supportive chat.

I'm 56 and 3.5 stone overweight. I'm 5'2" and weigh 13 stone

Depressingly I've lost this before - in 2019 I lost 2 stone and felt much better and was really disciplined ... and then I stopped and the weight crept back on.

I feel fat, frumpy, unhappy in my clothes and my middle spare tyre feels awful.

If I could lose 2 stone again I'd be thrilled - 3.5 is the dream.

Last time what worked for me was healthy breakfast, green smoothie for lunch and balanced tea. In between meals veg sticks or an oat cake as a snack.

My downfalls are savoury stuff - crisps, cheese, savoury biscuits.

I've been diagnosed as pre diabetic with high blood pressure which I'm hoping will be the kick up the arse I need.

This time I'm trying to up my game with exercise - I have 'treated' myself to about elliptical machine. Horrifyingly on the first day I could only do 2 minutes - I'm up to 15 mins now - I am aiming for 30 mins a day of elliptical/walking.

Anyone want to join me and share what is working for them?

I’m 50 and trying to lose weight again. In 2020 I was down 20kg to 68kg and then lockdown happened and I gained it all plus another kilo.
Since August I’ve lost 8kg, it’s much slower than it’s been in the past. I must say with age I’m getting more and more confused with what calories I should eat. I know in the past I had to increase to lose but I just can’t be bothered working all this stuff again. Basically I try not to eat too much and then have a normal dinner with DH (home cooked and healthy).
This time I’ve joined the gym, in the past I did home workouts and weights. I go 3 times a week and do a class. I’ve started adding more walking in again as I think that is effective, I also need to get back on the exercise bike. The gym is good but I need more cardio.
My weakness is everything, I’m not a huge eater. DH always says it’s unfair as don’t indulge that much, I’m just short!

RoosterCogburn · 09/01/2026 20:50

@TwillTrousers 8kg since August is amazing.

I've found the older I get the harder it is to lose weight.
On the plus side for me when I'm on track I'm able to be pretty disciplined. Was really pleased with myself today as my smoothie was vile (experimental error that I won't be repeating) but I drank it anyway and ignored the cake and chocolates in the staffroom.

OP I’m v similar to you: 53, 5ft2; 12.5 stone.. or I was until I started mourjano 8 wks ago. I’ve lost a stone & feel great, full of energy, barely any side effects (headache wk 1 due to sugar withdrawal) I know many people are against the jabs - I was - but honestly they make reducing your food intake so much easier. No more white knuckling it & falling off the wagon & restarting every Monday. Just slow, steady, consistent loss. I’m focusing on weight training & eating a healthy diet- staying on lowest dose - & I see it as a crutch whilst I build my willpower. Also appreciate not everyone can access them for one reason or another. But if you can & are open to it, I’d thoroughly recommend. Good luck however you’re approaching it & well done for making the decision & putting it out there. Accountability is a major driver for me, investing in this medication makes me not want to mess up. I did the body coach programme when it first came out & lost 3 stone on that but it was so hard to sustain & I piled it all back on gradually, & similar to you Covid was the worst!
anyway, good luck!!!!

RoosterCogburn · 09/01/2026 20:57

@morningtrain I've toyed with the idea of WLI and if I don't start to lose weight by making these changes I think they will be something I consider.

Accountability really helps me - last time I was on a thread here and it really helped - I felt quite sad when I read it back last night and saw me posting my weight each week and it slows and steadily decreased - so here I am again!

Hello 👋 I'm 52, weigh around 12 stone, and 5ft 5. Feel yukky at this weight. I plan to listen to some weightloss hypnotherapy on line to help me.
It's so hard at this age 😪

RoosterCogburn · 10/01/2026 12:41

@Cyscohypnotherapy sounds great. Be really interested to see how you get on.

Does anyone else find the weekend harder to be disciplined?

OP posts:
Cysco · 10/01/2026 13:23

Yes definitely harder when not at work , I like to treat myself for getting through the week !

morningtrain · 10/01/2026 14:28

@Cyscowhich hypnotherapy are you considering? i tried Slimpod last year.. it was not a total waste of money & did help shift my thinking around food, but it’s not a magic bullet by any means (unlike WLI which really are) & ultimately I got fed up having to listen to the same thing every single night!

Midlifeshenanigans · 10/01/2026 17:48

I’m in late 50s nearly 5”2 and 11st 7. I had intended to start on the 1st but snow got in the way. I really need to knuckle down and eat less but life is quite tough at the moment and nice food feels like a treat. I’m also interested in the hypnotherapy @Cysco

Thortour · 10/01/2026 17:50

Same. 55 5’9 and 15 stone. Never been more stressed or unhappy with myself.
Always exhausted and horrified by what I look like.

Tauranga · 10/01/2026 17:55

Me. 52. 12.6 stone.
Need to lose 1.5 stone.

I am starting fast 800 at the end of January.
Also starting weights for my upper body.

I know I can easily lose a stone but the last half will be hard and keeping ut off also hard!!!

Irememberwhenitwasallfieldsroundhere · 10/01/2026 17:59

Please can I join? More to lose than any of you but I’m doing the fast 800 except with 850 cals a day, day 8 so far. And dry January. I’m hapoy to gave made a start.

BrusselsPate · 10/01/2026 18:07

Hi, I'm 56. Currently weigh 11 1/2 stone and I'm 5 feet 3.
I'd like to be around 9 stone. I've always been between about 8.5 and 10.5 stone until about 6 months ago. Just been piling the weight on since then.
I really don't know what the best way to tackle this is. I've done low carb, keto, fast 800, and calorie counting. All have worked, but none have been sustainable for keeping the weight off long term.
I'm going to start by cutting out all the rubbish and alcohol, looking at portion control and starting some regular exercise.
Good luck everyone, we can do this.

Cysco · 10/01/2026 18:31

I am going to listen to one on Spotify by Adam Cox for weight loss. I've also bought the Paul Mckenna book too.
Day 1 of the diet has gone ok here. 👍

Hello, may I join you? I'm not quite 50, a few months to go! But I'm 5ft 1, and 12 stone 8lb. I've been a member of the gym for a year and haven't been since last July 😳 Need to get back to it, I love swimming and cycling, so also want to get on my bike once the weather has improved.

...exhausted and horrified ... sums it up.

Today I've done some gardening and been for a walk so I haven't been entirely sedentary but then I fell asleep and had a long afternoon nap. Didn't quite hit my goal of exercising for half an hour

It's hard isn't it - I think I use food as a reward and a comfort blanket. I'm trying to change my mindset.
My mantra is ... you are not a dog, food is not a reward

Fast800 looks interesting.
I don't think it is for me as I'd probably get a migraine if I didn't eat for an extended period of time.

When/how often do you all weigh?

I find it depressing that my weight seems to fluctuate hugely from day to day.

I'm not sure whether to weigh once a week at the same time. Or every morning and then calculate a weekly average.

Equally, I'm trying not to get hung up on weight - hoping to see a change in my shape and the way my clothes feel, and hopefully stamina/fitness levels

Similar weight to you but a little taller

I really need to get a grip

I look pregnant ☹️

I find weighing once a week doesn't provide enough accountability for me. I'll think I can cheat for a couple of days, then be good and by the time I weigh I'll be ok.
Daily can be a bit much though, so I'm going to aim for every 2-3 days.

TwillTrousers · 10/01/2026 20:56

I weigh everyday and use the Happy Scape app, you have to pay for it. This is mine today, it tracks trends etc.
