Anyone want to join me in some motivational supportive chat.

I'm 56 and 3.5 stone overweight. I'm 5'2" and weigh 13 stone

Depressingly I've lost this before - in 2019 I lost 2 stone and felt much better and was really disciplined ... and then I stopped and the weight crept back on.

I feel fat, frumpy, unhappy in my clothes and my middle spare tyre feels awful.

If I could lose 2 stone again I'd be thrilled - 3.5 is the dream.

Last time what worked for me was healthy breakfast, green smoothie for lunch and balanced tea. In between meals veg sticks or an oat cake as a snack.

My downfalls are savoury stuff - crisps, cheese, savoury biscuits.

I've been diagnosed as pre diabetic with high blood pressure which I'm hoping will be the kick up the arse I need.

This time I'm trying to up my game with exercise - I have 'treated' myself to about elliptical machine. Horrifyingly on the first day I could only do 2 minutes - I'm up to 15 mins now - I am aiming for 30 mins a day of elliptical/walking.

Anyone want to join me and share what is working for them?

Yes, same here, 50, 5.2” & fat. One week into slimming world and I would love to join you all!

Showmethehoney0 · 11/01/2026 18:02

Can I join please, 5ft 3 12stone 6lb and 53 yrs old. Annoyingly I lost a fair amount during lockdown and resistance trained was amazing for body recomposition.

Peri menopause hit in full late 2022, I felt awful with a racing heart, insomnia, anxiety so ate for convenience & dropped exercise to bare minimum. Finally feeling better but it’s harder work to drop the lbs these days.

High protein, good fats and fibre are seeing around a lb a week loss so can’t complain! I just need to avoid the sweet treats or I end up craving more, swear I’m part Cookie Monster.

RoosterCogburn · 11/01/2026 20:41

Welcome everyone!

@Funnywonder I remember finding the thread I was on last time I lost weight so helpful - hopefully this one will be the same for everyone.

My downfall in the working week is a can of non Diet Coke when I'm flagging. I'm going to pick up some pears and cherries tomorrow and have those instead if I need a boost

Can I join you? I'm 53, 5ft2, and currently 129kg (approx 20 stone). I started taking mounjaro on Wednesday and so far it's working well.

I've battled against my weight my entire life. Last year I started a weight loss programme through my health service. I lost around 2 stone from following the duet plan alone.

Then I got breast cancer and it all went out of the window. I didn't regain but I couldnt focus on the diet anymore. I was offered wli when I started a year ago but declined as it was working without them. Now I've accepted that I need the help.

I have been in so much pain and so poorly for so long. I'm done with it. 2026 is the year where I get my life back. 2025 can fuck right off.

Edited

Well done on the 2 stone loss! That's a great start.
2026 here we come!

Mine developed suddenly as I started to gain weight during menopause and stress comfort eating and one day I looked down and thought 'what the hell is this?' Now I have to tuck it into high waist leggings and jeans to hide the damn thing. It has to go! I am tired of trying to hide it under baggy tops and jumpers! 🙄

Me too.

I'm also aware that the baggy clothes I am favouring are not flattering at all, but the truth is I feel so uncomfortable with anything tight against my stomach that I just keep buying bigger and bigger clothes.

5 stone is incredible! Well done.

I’m going to weigh myself this morning.

OVienna · 12/01/2026 08:29

Hi all, joining.
I am struggling at mid-fifties. I know why - it is hormonal, I'm sure, but also my work schedule has changed to the extent I AM chained to my desk. So, it's a movement issue. I am finding myself too tired for the 6.30 classes and cramming exercise into the weekend. Not sure there's an easy solution...

Small edit.

TheaBrandt1 · 12/01/2026 08:31

The hormone effect is insane. At 45 I dropped 2 stone in 4 months. Doing the same regime at 51. Nothing lost.

TheaBrandt1 · 12/01/2026 08:32

Also look like I’m 4 months pregnant! Fml as the teens say.

petitpasta · 12/01/2026 08:35

Hoping there's room on the bench for another one!

I've lost 7 stone over 19 months, have used WLI but also big diet changes and joining a fab, friendly gym and discovering things that I can do as a very uncoordinated person.

Still want to shift another 3-4 stone which should be doable by the middle of 2027 if I do what I have been doing I think.

I'm mid 50s, 5ft 2 and have an auto immune condition (which sometimes needs steroids) and a very underactive thyroid.

Things that have helped me so far:

Talking myself out of having to restart on Mondays, the 1st of the month, after <insert event>. I do what I can day by day, meal by meal. If I have a cake because it looks lovely, I get straight back on the bandwagon and don't tell myself 'I'll start again on Monday' and give myself permission to hit the f*ck it button and stuff myself silly until then.

Prioritising sleep. It's so much easier to make good decisions when I'm not tired. I have developed a wind down routine and I try really hard to stick to it. Magnesium has also helped with sleep and I cut out booze to see if that helped...unfortunately it did so I had to stick to it!

Following lots of good fitness content on social media. I find it motivating to see healthy recipes and women doing exercise. I'm never going to avoid social media but i can at least fill my feeds with good stuff.

I travel a lot for work and I have a few body weight exercise routines that I can do in hotel rooms so I can keep up good habits. Also try to book hotels with pools if I can.

And exercising first thing in the morning seems to work for me. I start well and it seems to be easier to carry on through the day making healthy choices.

I've simplified our diet so I have one of two breakfasts and I prep salad veg twice a week and store it in silicone bags in the fridge and then make sure I have protein sources to hand. So yesterday I prepped my salad, boiled some eggs, made up some tuna mayo and got some cooked chicken out of the freezer. This sorts lunch and then dinner follows a protein + veg+ complex carb formula and i order 7 protein sources, 7 lots of complex carbs and veg for 7 meals. It's like eating by numbers and it has worked for me! I've been telling myself that food is fuel not a treat - someone up thread said food is not a reward because I am not a dog - made me laugh but it's so true. A reward for me is an hour with a book so that's what I try to do.

I have a few quick meals in the freezer for days when I really CBA. Salmon you can cook from frozen, steam bags of frozen veg and a pouch of rice. It helps me fight the urge for a takeaway. It's very UPF heavy but it's still healthier and cheaper than a Chinese!

I also read something yesterday about not thinking of exercise in terms of losing weight but think of it in terms of maintaining my body's effectiveness into older age and that's the next mindset shift I am trying to make.

I've still got loads to learn so I am looking forward to journeying with other women in my age bracket.

We can do this!

IsItAllMenopause · 12/01/2026 08:41

Hello, can I join please?

I'm fat, over 50 and extremely fed up! I'm 5ft 7 and 12.12. I had a high blood sugar test in November which put me in the diabetic range.

Since then I've done low carb (even over Christmas!). I initially lost a few pounds but have actually put weight on the last few weeks! I don't know where I'm going wrong!

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 12/01/2026 08:54

I had tried every diet under the sun and I was 54, 5ft 1 and 12 stone 13lbs. Nothing fitted and I felt desperate. I started Mounjaro along with my dh in Jan 2025 and I am now just shy of 8 1/2 stone. He’s lost over 7 stone. It’s been literally life changing. We have found that a weekly weigh, Saturday for us, is what works best rather than daily or every other day. After going to the loo and before the first drink of the day gives an accurate weight.

Funnywonder · 12/01/2026 08:54

OK, I bit the bullet. I am 12st 11lbs, so I put on 3lbs over Christmas and the first couple of weeks of January. To be fair, I thought it’d be worse.

My car died a couple of days ago, so walking is going to feature in my life for a while by default as DP doesn’t drive. I know that doesn’t help much with weight loss but it will be good for my mood. I took up running when I was 54 and loved it, but ground to a halt when my youngest became unwell and I was in hospital with him, then taking care of him. Not sure I want to try it again just yet. Maybe after I’ve lost a few pounds.

I’m not going to make big sweeping changes as I’ve tried that before and didn’t stick to it. I’m going to start with cutting out the rubbish - crisps, chocolate etc. Then I’ll start looking at my meals. I’m not sure whether to do 16:8. I did it with decent success a few years ago and am still unable to eat before about 11am. I don’t know why that habit stuck so fast. It’s the stopping early in the evenings I struggle with😅

You are doing really well @RoosterCogburn. I would be absolutely delighted with that sort of progress. It’s exactly what I’m aiming for.

Hello twin!
I feel like weight loss after 50 is the most frustrating thing ever!
I don't want to try WLI. My sister had gallstones last year and it was horrendous so I don't want to risk that.
Are you following a diet plan or anything?

TheaBrandt1 · 12/01/2026 09:15

im not large enough for medication. 73kg 5 foot 6 bmi 25. Need to lose a stone basically. Which is harder than it sounds.

Champagnecharleyismyname · 12/01/2026 09:26

I’m 5ft 3” and weigh 10st 10lbs down from 11st 3lbs since October. I put on a stone and a half over Covid which I have really struggled to lose. I’m 56.

I am doing 2 meal replacement shakes a day from protein works and then one high protein/fibre meal. This seems to have finally started some weight loss.

I would prefer to not use the shakes but I just couldn’t seem to shift the weight by eating three meals a day, even when calorie counting.

I do weights 3 times a week to try to maintain my muscle and lose more fat.

It is slow! I’m giving myself until the end of March on the shakes.

Oh, I agree that losing weight at this age is much harder! My SIL has been on weight loss injections for about 18 months. Very few side effects and the weight loss has changed her life. She is no longer a virtual recluse and her back pain is almost non existent. When she started them, I was nowhere near close to being eligible for them as my BMI was well within a healthy range. Not any more! I think SIL is giving me her lost pounds🤣 I’m still not sure whether to do 16:8. I’m almost there with the times as I don’t eat anything until about 11.30am. But stopping eating at 7.30pm is the big challenge. For now I’m just cutting down on the ‘extras’. I’m a world champion snacker. So I either need to give that up or go for low calorie alternatives. What are you thinking of doing? I’m all up for ideas, but I want to avoid actual calorie counting if I can.

Yes, I spent years trying to lose a stone. I used to naively (weirdly?) think it would be easier if I had more to lose because then I’d have more of an incentive and could get a bit of momentum going. Now I have more to lose and it feels just as hard as trying to lose that bloody stone😆

SummerbodyIwish · 12/01/2026 09:51

Can I join please. I’m 59, 5’2 and weigh 11 stone. Really need to shift at least 1 stone before I am 60 this year (ideally 2)
