Anyone want to join me in some motivational supportive chat.

I'm 56 and 3.5 stone overweight. I'm 5'2" and weigh 13 stone

Depressingly I've lost this before - in 2019 I lost 2 stone and felt much better and was really disciplined ... and then I stopped and the weight crept back on.

I feel fat, frumpy, unhappy in my clothes and my middle spare tyre feels awful.

If I could lose 2 stone again I'd be thrilled - 3.5 is the dream.

Last time what worked for me was healthy breakfast, green smoothie for lunch and balanced tea. In between meals veg sticks or an oat cake as a snack.

My downfalls are savoury stuff - crisps, cheese, savoury biscuits.

I've been diagnosed as pre diabetic with high blood pressure which I'm hoping will be the kick up the arse I need.

This time I'm trying to up my game with exercise - I have 'treated' myself to about elliptical machine. Horrifyingly on the first day I could only do 2 minutes - I'm up to 15 mins now - I am aiming for 30 mins a day of elliptical/walking.

Anyone want to join me and share what is working for them?

I've made it to a stone loss this year and I am 1lb off losing 8 stone overall. I plateaud for about 5 weeks but kept going but then suddenly lost 5lb. I did have an inflammatory flare up which I think masked some actual weight loss for a while.

I'm also trying intermittent fasting which seems to be helping, been reading lots about how it improved insulin resistance.

Please can I join you all. I am in my fifties (but in denial) and I am shocked at how much weight has crept on. I look and feel rubbish and not myself. I never used to have to watch what I ate and I’ve always loved sports and exercise and movement. But I have a deskbound very stressful fulltime job and the reality is that I don’t move enough. I hit a really low point recently when meeting up with old friends and feeling completely shite about myself. Have also been dealing with family health issues and moving house so I haven’t been looking after myself at all. I have been eating as a distraction and a reward but mostly comfort eating.i have a terrible sweet tooth though at least i rarely drink these days (peri and sleep issues).
I downloaded nutrachecker a week ago and I have stuck to it so far and it’s working well for me.I’m planning ahead and making an effort to eat well and I’m trying to walk 10K steps a day. It’s only week one and I know it’s going to be hard to stick for the long haul, but I have to make permanent changes now.
Start weight 73.4kg
Current weight 72.5kg
Goal Weight 65kg

Welcome @ResetMe
it sounds as if you are in the same place as many of us.
The planning ahead is key for me, but as the months have passed (I started in January) it has become easier. I now have a bank of quick and easy meals that work for me.
I’ve also made a conscious effort to prepare food that is really nice so I don’t get fed up and give up.

Do you track your steps? I find that keeping my “streak” of exercise going is very motivating

Hello!
Yes I can see that the food weighing etc hopefully won’t be necessary for ever once I get some go-to meals as a routine. I’m actually really enjoying eating things I love, like beetroot, feta, lentils, eggs, seeds etc so it’s not even unenjoyable but taking the time so I don’t end up eating bread by default.
I use my apple health step counter but is there an app you recommend to track streaks?

Joining! Will post more soon.

I use the fitness app on my iPhone - I'm ridiculously proud that I have closed all three rings every day since the middle of December.

They've been a couple of days when it gets to early evening I haven't closed the exercise ring and that has spurred me on to go for a walk or get on my exercise bike so I don't break the streak.

Sad, but effective for me!

Starting weight 189 lb (13 stone 7lb)
Current weight 163.4 lb (11 stone 9.4lb)
Goal weight 140 lb
25.6lb loss so far … 23.4 lb to go

That's 1.6lb loss since my last weigh in.

I was in a meeting today that only happens quarterly so I hadn't seen most of the people for three months and two commented separately that they could see I had lost weight with was a nice boost.

I’m still going and have finally lost a bit after a long plateau.
I’m exercising a lot now and definitely feeling back in control and so close to 1 stone loss!

I am still here....

Would love to hear about some of your quick meal ideas @RoosterCogburn
My quick go to is wholemeal pasta with chopped salad or beans on toast.

ResetMe · 13/05/2026 08:48

Another one keen to hear of sone tasty easy recipes!
During the week while I am working with very little time, I tend to base my lunches on the Quinola lentil/quinoa pouches and add other ingredients, like beetroot, feta, leaves, chicken, avocado, seeds etc (not all at once 😉).

MrTiddlesTheCat · 14/05/2026 08:14

Still plodding on.

SW: 135 kg
CW: 111.8 kg
Total loss: 23.2 kg

I've started back at the gym after a two year break (shoulder fracture then breast cancer) and am very surprised at how well I'm doing. I didn't think I'd be able to manage any upper body exercises, but I'm doing them.

RoosterCogburn · 14/05/2026 21:44

I do prep quite a lot of stuff in advance like meatballs and sauce.

Quick meals that work are
Omelette
Rice (precooked from a pouch) with salmon and veg.
gnocchi with meatballs and veg sauce
Fishcake and veg
Beef or prawn and veg stir fry (no rice)
Fish with roast tomatoes and green veg

i also do quite a lot of meals from the bold bean website.

Progressing well here and I’m not feeling hungry usually.
my favourite thing is when I’ve prepared breakfast (overnight oats with kefir and Greek yoghurt, berries and pumpkin seeds) the night before. It is like a gift to my future (morning) self every time!

Well done @resetme
I've remained the same this week - but no loss is better than a gain!

RaraRachael · 20/05/2026 22:12

I'm 63 and the heaviest I've ever been. I need to lose at least a stone but nothing works. I lose a pound one week, put it back on the following week.
And so on and so on ........

I'm absolutely fed up with it but can't see any solution.

ResetMe · 21/05/2026 14:25

It’s really hard.
I am eating much more healthily these past 3 weeks and much less calories than I was but the weight is not exactly dropping off. My metabolism is drastically different to how it was. I’m also super sensitive to sugar but I had suspected that.

RaraRachael · 21/05/2026 16:47

So fed up. Ordered a Next skirt in a 12 (which I've always been) and apparently sizes on the big side and it was nowhere near being able to fasten 😪
