hi, how is everyone today?

are you feeling better @poorpaws? I hope so.

I’m having a good week actually. I’ve been trying something new, so every afternoon about 1-2 hours after lunch I’ve eaten high protein snack (yesterday I had a protein yogurt, today I had some chicken and carrots) - and you know what, I have been much more alert in the afternoon and I have not snacked or grazed or been wandering around the kitchen looking for enlightenment. 🤔 interesting….. so for 3 days I have successfully stuck to my calorie goals and have not had sugary rubbish to keep me going.

Saw myself in the mirror today. Horrified.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/09/2026 06:54

Carried out a little inadvertent experiment on myself yesterday, went for a run at lunchtime then got swept up into something at work and did not eat my 2pm protein snack- omg I was an unstoppable sugar fiend as as soon as I finished work I ended up eating loads of sugary crap. Loads. Felt so rubbish as well. So I’m definitely going back to my 2pm protein fix.

payday today and it’s Ds’s party so we are going to town after work for bowling and Nando’s with his little mates. Should be fun. Nando’s isn’t too terrible either on the calories if I recall, I will probably have a chicken and halloumi pitta. I’m not drinking this weekend (had wine last night) and I am determined to have a decent weekend diet wise.

other than that my plans are to sort out my under stairs cupboard and organise my food cupboards, put 5 things on vinted and try to get out into the garden while it’s warm. Nice walk with the dog, and a run (although I am not prioritising running at the moment, I am doing gym first, and I feel much better for it except for when I’m actually running

@TalkToTheHand123 I’m sorry that you feel that way. Mirrors are not always the most flattering. I hope you are ok 🌷

I'm ok thanks @thenewaveragebear1983 . I've just weighed as I thought I may have lost weight but I'm at the highest ever. I'm trying not to let it upset me and just be more determined.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/09/2026 10:06

I’m going to hide my scales in October for the whole month because I am just fed up of all the angst that goes with it. I fluctuate so much and it’s really getting me down.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 28/09/2026 07:49

Sounds a good plan. I usually argue against weighing but then end up weighing now and again.

TalkToTheHand123 · 28/09/2026 22:08

Big meals are knocking me out. (I usually make one when I get home after being out all day) so going to try small meals and this s hould help lose weight. I seem to have gone off ice cream for some reason also (touch wood).

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2026 22:26

Could you flip your day around @TalkToTheHand123 and have bigger meals for breakfast and lunch and smaller for evening/tea? I often think I would like to do that, maybe just have soup or something, but our family set up doesn’t work for that really.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 29/09/2026 07:17

Thanks for the suggestion @thenewaveragebear1983 , however, I'm often out and aout a bit in the city throughout the day and would usually have an upset tummy. I'd also end up half asleep. I don't think I need to eat that much and it's more just greed / habit. I 'just' need to learn to reduce food intake. I'm thinking saving half or more of the cooking and putting the remaining in the fridge for later use instead of eating in one go as I usually do 😋.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/09/2026 07:44

You need to get yourself some nice food saver dishes, I like the little glass Pyrex ones with flexi lids (I don’t have any, I covet them from afar) - portion yourself up meals, and saves time and money as well. I see a lot of videos where they portion up 4 meals, usually rice or pasta based, cook it all in the glass dish then that’s your meal prep. They go in the freezer and the oven

Good morning everyone, I hope everyone is well

First of all, apologies for not being around as much as usual, but there’s a lot happening here. I’ve eventually got rid of this blasted cold, well I hope I have because I’m still sniffling this morning but anyway the main difficulties like the swollen glands and the sore throat have gone.

Yesterday I had the procedure on my eye. It was originally going to be both eyes but they decided that one wasn’t too bad for the £495 each eye, so I’m going to leave it for a year. It was an easy procedure and I had to wear sunglasses yesterday because of the light but today I’m taking them off and on the dog walk I’ll test how much it has improved my vision.

Also, we’ve started decorating! It has needed doing for such a long time but we’ve been putting it off because it’s going to be such a long job. I won’t bore you with the details, but this small room has been the bane of my life for years. It has three outside walls and gets damp And over the years, I’ve spent a fortune trying to make it nice and cozy. I’ve now found a thick thermal liner for the walls which apparently is quite difficult to hang, but we’ve decided to give it a go. Anyway, as I said it’s going to be a long drawn out job, we’ve stripped the walls of wallpaper and a polystyrene liner that we tried before and today we are sanding the the walls to get any glue off.

so far has my diet goes, it has been horrendous. After decorating all day, I’ve been exhausted and eating chocolate instead of cooking proper meals because I just haven’t had the energy. We went food shopping yesterday and I bought loads of ready meals, two minute rice and anything I could see that I could just pop in the microwave and eat. I’ll have a full week of convenience food which I know isn’t ideal, but it’s better than me just eating rubbish.

As I said in an earlier post, I’m hoping to eat less during October. My DD and the kids stay with me for five weeks every January and a little into February and every year I am dieting And this year I was on my no chocolate three months. Next January I would like to have lost enough weight in the next three months to eat the same as they eat and not be on a diet so I’ve got three months which sounds easy but I’ve got my birthday in November and Christmas in those three months so can I do it?

I have been reading your post and @thenewaveragebear1983 you are doing very well, I’m impressed and @TalkToTheHand123 i’m sure you didn’t look as bad As you thought in that mirror, we’ll just keep on trying.

Have a good Tuesday everyone and although I can’t promise I’ll try and keep posting with my progress/lack of progress and I always read your posts even when I’m extra busy. Fingers crossed for us all in October.

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/09/2026 10:11

Aww @poorpaws . Take care.
It was worse! It's ok though. I feel I'm gaining more control and can do what I need to do. Time will tell.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/10/2026 06:58

Good morning all, happy October! Although i have had some good days in September I have also had some dreadful ones and they have cancelled out my good ones I think. I am ending the month heavier than I started.

positives though- I have trialled and found successful a few changes which I am going to make my plan for October, specifically increasing my protein to over 100g and also having a protein based snack at 2.30. The days I have done this have been my best days of September. I’ve also made a switch from running to doing strength training as my primary exercise, and I have quite enjoyed not running so much. In October I am going to continue with that, plus walking, and continue not running so much. I feel a lot less tired and drained.

my October challenge is to not weigh myself, I’m going to hide my scales and take my measurements and just focus on my food. The scales make me miserable. And otherwise just stick to my plan every day, stick to my calories, but it has to be 7 days a week because otherwise my weekends are just cancelling out all my hard work. I don’t expect wild results but if I could get 6lbs off in October doing this I would be thrilled.

@poorpaws I hope you recover from your op and your decorating goes well.

Happy October everyone

I jumped on the scales this morning and was horrified, I just couldn’t believe it, I’ve shot up to 11 st 10.25! That was a shock, but perhaps it’s just the shock I need.

I’m going to try and treat October as my new beginning, change my weigh day to Thursday and cut out chocolate. I’m always full of good intentions at the beginning of every new month, but I do think October is a good month for me in that there’s not a lot going on, no birthdays and very little socialising. Add decorating to the mix and I think so long as I eat the ready meals and don’t snack much in between I should have a good loss by the end of October, fingers crossed!

@thenewaveragebear1983you have a plan, sounds great and hopefully when those scales do come out, you’ll see a fantastic loss.

@TalkToTheHand123keep that control, you can do this.

I hope you are all ok and let’s get together and crack this.

TalkToTheHand123 · 01/10/2026 09:50

Hi all. I was tempted to weigh but then remembered I had two pasties yesterday so I thought I'd save myself the humiliation. I do seem to be eating less portions and with DP watching what I eat like a hawk is also a help. I've made some cabbage soup for later 😏.

poorpaws · 01/10/2026 20:45

Day 1 as always has gone well. Day 2 will be the problem unless I keep on track.

It’s been a busy day of washing, housework, dog walking and trying to keep the room we decorating tidy and clear while DP painted the ceiling.

I said I wouldn’t bore you with the decorating but it’s already becoming a massive problem. I think I said we’ve stripped the walls and sanded them and we’ve got this thermal lining to put on. What I didn’t realise was that after the thermal lining you have to put on a normal lining, then the wallpaper and then two coats of emulsion. So it seems we’ve actually got to do something to the walls all the way round the room five times 😱. Had I known this we wouldn’t have started and to add insult to injury the polystyrene paper we stripped after the wallpaper could’ve stayed on because it was still in perfect condition. I am usually a thorough researcher on everything but I fear I didn’t do enough research on what we should be doing.

anyway I didn’t come here to bore you to death with my woes, I popped on to say so far so good and I’m hoping I’m so busy this week I won’t have time to eat.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/10/2026 03:38

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much, life is a little crazy at the moment!

In September I ended up about the same at the end of the month as I weighed at the beginning of the month 🙄 just a little bit less.
1st sept: 157.3lbs
30th sept: 156.4lbs

My highest weight in September was 159.9lbs, but my lowest weight was 156lbs.
I'm hoping I'm not speaking too soon, but I think I may have cracked my sugar addiction, but it is early days.

I just found out that the weightloss program I was using (that I got my wegovy pills through) is no longer available to me through work, in the same sense.
I still have one more refill left, so I will get the last 30 pills, but I'm going to just keep them on hand for when I need a little help to refocus.

My goal through the end of the year is to stay focused on low carb as much as possible.
In the new year I may look into the other weightloss programs available to me (unless I have to check them out sooner).

My fitness goal? I need to restart, again! I have ideas for what I want to do/ need to do, but having the time and energy can be difficult.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/10/2026 03:43

Well done on a great 1st day @poorpaws! I sympathize with you on making yourself more work than necessary, as I've been there and done that before, many times!

@TalkToTheHand123 well done on gaining more control. Getting started is usually the hard part for me, hopefully things get easier for you the more you carry on.

@thenewaveragebear1983 it sounds like you have a great plan for October, I hope everything works out great!

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/10/2026 03:45

Sorry for the multiple posts!
I just forgot to add that I decided to log my food today into mfp, and I ended up having a good day! A little low on protein, but not too bad since I haven't been logging anything lately.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2026 06:33

@poorpawsoh that’s frustrating- but it will be worth it in the end. Cold damp rooms in your home just get wasted if they aren’t nice to use so although it feels like a lot of effort it will be worth it.

Thank god it’s Friday, it’s been a very long week. I was a slimming angel yesterday 😇 and I have today planned too. I’m not drinking this weekend which always helps and I need to catch up on some sleep and give the dog a good run out. Weekend food is always tricky because the others like treats and novelty at the weekend, and dh sometimes cooks. I just plan to keep busy, lots of jobs to do, plus enjoy the last of this lovely weather

TalkToTheHand123 · 02/10/2026 09:17

Hi all. The cabbage soup increases the need to use the bathroom and quickly but has been quite a good detox. I'll just drink this when at home for at least a few hours unless it is sjust a case of the body getting used to it. I feel quite a lot less bloated.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/10/2026 07:00

I had a really good day yesterday, in fact since 1st October I have been doing well. Something has clicked. I am not drinking this weekend so I have slept better and of course that has saved 1000 calories too. Yesterday I was 2000 cals which is higher than planned but 150g protein and I did a short run and a workout.

i’ve rejigged my nutracheck meal headings and I now have a Junk category (used to be called snacks) and I am trying to keep that under 200 cals each day. Then my 3 meals and my protein snack. What’s amazing is I still haven’t weighed, I really wanted to yesterday after a couple of good days, but then I thought what if I did, and I had gained? I actually feel good, I know I’ve eaten well, I’ve exercised. That’s enough. I did measurements on 1st which I haven’t done for years either.

today I am meeting my friend with the dog for a walk at the canal. I’m going to do a stretch session and arms today in my workout. A bit of a chill and pamper, maybe a nap. Only one dc football which is good. And then dh is cooking a roast later. I made soup yesterday so for lunch I will have that with Ryvita. 😋

have a lovely Sunday

Did you enjoy your Rivita @thenewaveragebear1983 ?

My microwave egg poacher arrived a few days ago and have had some delicious egg sandwiches although tonight I blame this for my upset tum (I don't think I cooked fully).

Note to self as I keep forgetting - Keep doing leg lifts at top of stairs. It is very quick to feel the tummy muscles with little effort.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/10/2026 06:52

@TalkToTheHand123 i actually did, i like the seeded ones with a bit of Philly on, but I also like the fruit ones which are actually quite good if you fancy a biscuit.

i did have a pretty dreadful day yesterday though and ended up eating loads of rubbish in my exhaustion after work. It didn’t help that I have a do on Friday and I have nothing to wear, my friend lent me a whole bag of dresses to try on and none of them fit me and my only option really is one I’ve bought on vinted which is just a little bit too…. Can’t even describe it as clingy, it’s not really, it’s just a bit sexy I guess. It’s so long since I’ve been out and it’s a really formal do and I just feel like it’s too much somehow. I have ordered some dress tape and I’ll see today in natural light what it looks like. But anyway, the process of trying on dress after dress and feeling fatter and fatter and my doughy stomach showing through every single one just made me feel such a failure and just horrible. And it feels very unfair because I try so hard and just get nowhere. (And then I ate loads of crap and reminded myself that I don’t try hard enough because I eat crap…. 😢)

anyway, lesson learned.

today I am going to fast until lunchtime just to undo a bit of my excess, I would like a run at lunchtime and will go to bootcamp after work. Lunch will be boiled egg salad, protein on mid afternoon, and then dinner will be a cottage pie or similar.

Just a quick update because I’m really busy at the moment

@thenewaveragebear1983 you have been here a long time and I feel I know you now and you are most definitely not a failure. You are very strong and I’ve always admired you.

The decorating is going okay I guess but slowly. Hopefully by the end of today the first thermal layer will be on all the walls. I think I’m having a day off tomorrow because I’m exhausted.

I’ve been living on ready meals and Asda pasta salads. During the day I haven’t had much time to eat so I’ve been starving at night. The ready meals are okay but they’re tiny compared to what I normally eat and I’m not eating chocolate so every night I’m having crisps, popcorn, mini cheddars which isn’t ideal.

I’ve changed my weigh day to Thursday and I haven’t done a mid week weigh-in because I’ve banned myself from doing those so I’ll be curious to see what the scales say tomorrow.

i hope everyone is ok and doing well.
