I can’t have any alcohol with the antibiotics I’m taking and the Dentist gave me a “don’t you dare” stare. I assured her that as long as I could have chocolate on the tablets there wouldn’t be a problem.

I think if two of you are giving up alcohol I’ll give up chocolate because I’ve always seen that as my alcoholic replacement.

Have a good Thursday, everyone. We all seem to have renewed vigour now that the sun has disappeared.

poorpaws · 27/08/2026 16:15

Today did not go as planned. As soon as we got to physio I could see there was a difference in attitude and eventually it transpired that they’ve realised they can’t do any more for me and I was discharged. The fact that I still am not driving, have very little use in my right hand and drop/break endless items all day doesn’t seem to be taken into account.

I felt very emotional when we came out of physio and when we went to the café instead of making the good choices Id decided to make I had a chicken burger and lots of chips. I don’t know why I do it because it hasn’t helped my mood. Tonight I’ve got to stay away from the cupboards and any chocolate I’ve got or I will really go off track.

This has been a hell of a week with my dog being diagnosed with a heart murmur, me having a swollen face and on antibiotics, not being able to see it all out of my left eye and now being discharged from any more help with my hand. Sorry, I’m feeling a little bit sorry for myself.

sigh - Tomorrow is another day 😀

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/08/2026 17:31

I’m actually going to try to give up alcohol, sugar and gluten in September @poorpaws because when I look at my week and my food diary those are the three things that take up the extra calories and destroy my deficit. If I cut those out I know I feel better and just cope with it better. And cutting one isn’t enough because I end up eating chocolate instead of wine, or toast instead of biscuits. So my plan is to cut out all 3 and actually do it properly. I’d start now but I am seeing my friend on Saturday, I feel so tired right now and cannot motivate myself to do anything. And I’ve eaten sugary rubbish all day 😢

@thenewaveragebear1983 that’s a very big ask. I know I couldn’t do all three, absolutely no way, but if you have a plan and think you can stick to it, good luck and well done you.

what is your plan exactly? I’m assuming you’ll eat more fresh fruit and veg and increase protein? Have you thought of a menu yet, not a set in stone menu but good ideas? Sugar and gluten are so difficult to give up together, I am so impressed but I know it’s no good offering to join you, it too difficult for me. I honestly hope it works for you and I’ll be watching your progress with great interest and cheering you on.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/08/2026 20:14

The gluten is fairly straightforward, I did give it up for a long time previously. I will try not to have gluten free substitutions as they aren’t very nice. Plan meals around potatoes and rice as my carb sources. Sugar, well that’s always going to be hard. But I find cold turkey is the best way. Planning is key, and not buying it in the first place. The first few days are hard.

It’s weird, I can’t remember the last time I actually ate a bar of chocolate, I had the realisation a while ago that it was just really drab and greasy tasting now and I just never buy it anymore. I think I need a few more reality checks about the other forms of sugar I eat!

alcohol, well…. I do enjoy a wine but I’m pretty good at going without when my mind is focused. I sleep so much better and feel so much better when I don’t drink. I will need to find an alternative for Saturday nights maybe, I like the Trip drinks and I also really like kombucha so that’s 2 options.

So sorry for all of you having a tough time. The impulse to comfort eat is so strong and ingrained that it's really hard to avoid it.

I haven't wanted to jinx it by posting here but I am slowly losing weight.

Basically, a lot of foods make me so ill that it's either chsnge or feel like shit all the time.

My diet is high in protein and low in grains, although I do eat a homemade granola with milk and fruit for breakfast.

My main meal is usually meat, potatoes and veg, with a square of dark chocolate or possibly a small coconut chocolate yoghurt.

My smaller meal is meat and salad, followed by some grapes or berries.

I have gluten free crackers with sunflower seed spread or dairy free cheese as a snack.

I can usually have one gluten free oat bar a day too.

I know, boring as hell.

But I'm losing weight. I'm at 60.95g compared to 62.40kg at the start.

Hoping you all find what works for you.

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/08/2026 12:08

Hi and love to all. Sorry to hear the issues.
I've just done a marathon sleep and still tired. Hopefully I can start getting into a better sleep routine and sleep my way slimmer.

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/08/2026 13:22

Just been on scales as feeling slimmer. Last on a few weeks ago. Exactly the same weight. Oh well. Try again.

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/08/2026 13:39

Off for a couple nights away at the coast. 🙂 Hopefully I won't go to excess.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2026 17:18

@TalkToTheHand123 I hope you enjoy your time away
@Specialneedsnightmare sounds like you are doing well and slow and steady is the way

I’ve been a bit quiet because I’ve been a bit off plan, my foods been ok but I had wine and chocolate, I think dh and I are very much working towards 1st sept start date! I have done a couple of gentle 5km runs and used my gym. I pulled out of my October marathon as I have not done anywhere near enough training so I am now reconsidering my strategy for exercise as I really want to focus on my strength and gym and move away from long cardio sessions

tonight we are having roast chicken and orzo Greek spices and tzatziki 😋

Just found this thread as looking for weight loss support. Need to lose 3 stone ideally, lost 2 last year but put it back on (again...🙄) I don't really want to go down the weight loss injection route but I don't know why. Friends have had amazing results with them so I don't know what stops me. Can I ask others who aren't using them what their reasons are?

TalkToTheHand123 · 31/08/2026 13:07

There is not enough research of side effects. Research done suggests worrying concerns from what I have read. I feel using injections is cheating and want to do it 'naturally'.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2026 18:54

I have researched weight loss drugs many times and when the pills became available off licence for bmi 25 I researched them again. My reasons for not having them is mostly that I’m not eligible, even though technically I am because my bmi is 25. (It seems bizarre that if you are bmi 30 and take them you can continue to take them at bmi 21 for the rest of your life, but I can’t take them at bmi 25 even though I used to be bmi 30 and lost the weight myself 🤷‍♀️) . However I think if I was eligible I don’t think I’d actually go as far as actually starting them- a significant percentage regain 2/3 of what they lose within a year of stopping. They are a lifelong expensive commitment that you have no control over the price or availability of; the side effects are also really high, 60% experiences gastro side effects, nausea etc; the people I know who have used them have a weird hollow saggy look about them like a popped balloon and I’m not sure that’s a good look. So those 3 factors would (probably) put me off even if I was eligible. I would however like something to turn off my appetite enough to enable me to stick to enough of a deficit to actually lose weight consistently.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2026 18:58

And I also agree with @TalkToTheHand123, I feel it’s cheating and anyone who says it isn’t is lying, yes you have to calorie count and eat well and exercise, but everyone who loses weight has to do that, it’s a hell if a lot easier to do that if your appetite is suppressed constantly. If it wasn’t easier why would people pay £200 for the drugs?! I have as I said looked into it in great detail. As far as pricing it up and entering my details for a consultation.

OP posts:
HardyAnt · 31/08/2026 19:52

Thank you for your comments - you’ve put into words what I couldn’t quite articulate. I’ve definitely noticed the hollow-faced look, and that does put me off a lot. People I know who’ve lost a lot of weight on them are saying they’ll stay on them for life, but I'd be thinking that's a holiday every year!

poorpaws · 31/08/2026 20:58

@HardyAnt I considered using Weight loss injections sometime ago and like bear researched them and filled in consultation forms but then decided against it. Very, very recently I was reconsidering trying them. I totally agree about the sunken face, I can tell who’s been on weight loss jabs and who’s lost weight naturally by their face. I also worry about side effects that haven’t been discovered yet and may emerge later.

my main reason for not taking them yet is cost, the fact that I am only just within the BMI/just below the BMI and I don’t want to be on slimming medication for life. I don’t actually judge people who take the medication and a big part of me is envious but I don’t think it is for me.

i’m considering changing my weigh-in day from Monday to Friday because the weekends are ruining my results. As an experiment, I’ve weighed every day this week and on Friday was 11 st 4.75, this morning I was up to 11 st 6.25 and it’s all because of my Sunday treat day. Having said all that we went for the triple ice creams today and I’ve actually worked out the calories with the help of Google and they’re 780 cals! We are coming towards the end of the season though, so the ice cream parlour won’t be open for too much longer which is a blessing.

September tomorrow and I keep announcing that this is the time of year I usually find easiest to lose weight, perhaps I should keep quiet!

HardyAnt · 31/08/2026 22:16

I'm starting a new weight loss programme tomorrow as well. My summer has also had far too many ice-creams and bbqs!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/09/2026 06:50

Happy 1st September ! I love how it feels like a bit of a reset, I am feeling motivated and determined to actually stick to my plan this month and see some weightloss.

this morning I’m having porridge with chia and stewed damsons, lunch is tuna and salad and dinner I’m not sure because my Tesco order is coming at 7. It’s my office day today which is usually a tough day food wise because I get very tired and dehydrated so I will be making sure I drink lots of water and will take a couple of apples for the drive home.

Have a great day

OP posts:
poorpaws · 01/09/2026 07:49

Happy September everyone, let’s see if we can all improve on our summer weight loss/gain. I don’t like autumn and winter but I’m hoping to concentrate on more weight loss than ice creams.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/09/2026 18:58

I’ve had an ok day today, I did have a small snack after work but holding out for my dinner and waiting for Tesco. I feel a bit under the weather to be honest, I have a weird flashing pain in my chest and a fuzzy head (although that could be dehydration). It’s always a tricky day for me on a Tuesday, I’ve done less than 5k steps but I can’t be bothered to go out for a walk so 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/09/2026 21:32

I actually had a really good day today. I decided to make all my meals around protein and try very hard to get my protein over 100g, so when planning my meals I switched things out to get it higher. I never normally do this. I ended up having a good day and coming in under calories, however due to the lower carbs I have a headache this evening. But I’m definitely trying that again.

it’s going to be tricky this weekend as I have had a very long week, I’d very much like a glass of wine but I am determined not too, although dh has already said he is going to despite originally saying he would do without with me. So that’s a bit annoying. But I know I will feel better if i don’t, I need some good quality sleep. Weather is forecast nice and we have gardening and home jobs to do, plus football and a run.

Hi all. I viewed myself in a lift yesterday and let's just say it has given me some extra motivation to lose weight. The plan is to have regular salads and fruits🍍🍎🍓🍇! I keep forgetting or too lazy to prepare previously. I do have a lot of non diet friendly food to use up though as I really don't like throwing away food. Keep forgetting to drink water so have had very little over the last few weeks also. Need to learn to combat this.

HardyAnt · 04/09/2026 12:26

I've also been motivated to start, just doing calorie counting. Lost 1lb which is a push in the right direction!

poorpaws · 04/09/2026 14:52

Sadly I haven’t had the motivation to start ☹️

HardyAnt · 04/09/2026 15:12

@poorpaws I'd got to the weight I said I'd never reach so that shocked me into starting!
