@thenewaveragebear1983 just to check, we are weighing in tomorrow aren’t we?

I weighed on the first day of the new year but I think we also agreed to weigh every Monday. It just seems a bit soon and I don’t suppose I’ve lost any weight yet so I don’t know whether to leave it until next Monday.

i hope you’ve had a nice Sunday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2026 19:26

@poorpawsi am weighing tomorrow, yes. I am not looking forward to it. I weighed on 1st Jan and then carried on in Christmas mode. And it was bad enough on 1st!! But for me it’s got to be done, I need it to draw the line.

I made a lovely roast gammon tonight, with roasties and veg. 😋 I did 26k steps as well, 2 long walks and a run, so I was starving!

poorpaws · 04/01/2026 19:36

@thenewaveragebear1983 ok if i have to 😂

you’re doing so much exercise and I’ve hardly moved all day. I was enjoying my last day of peace before the onslaught of the family tomorrow night, when dd burst through the door with some of her belongings. This is my last night of freedom for a month.

food shopping tomorrow morning and I must be careful to buy only what I need and only healthy food.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2026 21:19

I wouldn’t normally do that much, I will probably suffer for it tomorrow - I ended up doing two walks because my friend changed her plans to walk with me and I didn’t want to let her down. And dh and I only very occasionally run together these days so if we get a chance to it’s nice. But I already know my legs will hurt tomorrow!

@thenewaveragebear1983 it bodes well for the weigh-in.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/01/2026 07:10

So I weighed in today, I’m down 3lbs since last Monday which is actually a miracle. So starting the year at 11st 4.5lb.
which is a loss since 6/01/25 of 5lbs - I mean, a loss is a loss, but that’s not exactly impressive is it?! I daren’t actually calculate how many pounds I actually lost (and gained) over the year but it’s a lot of effort to basically maintain 🤣

OP posts:
poorpaws · 05/01/2026 07:28

@thenewaveragebear1983 well done, I think that’s brilliant. As you say a loss is a loss and so much better than even a small gain.

so I weighed this morning and I’ve lost 4.25 lbs since last Thursday. I realise its mostly water etc but hey I’m delighted and did not expect it. So I’m starting the year at 12st 1.25lbs which is still very high but I’ve made a start. First goal is to get out of the 12s and into the 11sts before the end of January which should be doable.

i think life gets back to normal for most people today, kids back to school and people back to work. My normal is disrupted by the family who are coming this evening for a month and Dd and I have already had an argument 🙁

poorpaws · 05/01/2026 08:27

Oh my goodness, I have to be honest, I really do! This will make you feel a lot better about your years weight loss @thenewaveragebear1983

because @thenewaveragebear1983 had gone back to last years weigh-in I thought I should too and I really wish I hadn’t.

01.01.24. 10st 10.75
01.01.25. 11st 11.5
01.01.26. 12 st 5.5

now if that’s not a wake-up call and massive motivation, I don’t know what is. I am now more determined than ever to be back in the10 st bracket for 01.01.27, that is my long term new goal. There’s no wonder none of my clothes fit me. 🙁

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/01/2026 17:17

We can totally do it this year @poorpaws

I have had an ok day today, I had acupuncture this morning which always makes me feel good. Then had a leftover roast dinner for lunch, and a gluten free piece of tiffin. Watched a bit of rubbish tv (eat well for less reruns, it’s quite easy watching though)
now sat at football in the absolute freezing cold, I have a hot water bottle under my coat!

OP posts:
poorpaws · 05/01/2026 21:15

I’ve had a good day with food again but still not fitting in any extra exercises.

I did a food shop this morning and was very careful not only buying healthy food but not over-buying so I dont waste quite so much and watching what I spent (new years resolution to spend less on food but remain healthy eating).

since I fell in October I’m very nervous of falling again (it’s never bothered me before) so we waited until lunch time when the ice had melted to walk the dogs. This meant we had a very late lunch and a much later dinner as I just wasn't hungry which in turn has meant no snacking tonight.

ive started with a bit of a cold today, very sniffly, a slight headache, no energy and shivering. I don’t think it will come to much as all my severe colds start with a flaming metal tasting sore throat and I haven’t got that.

i hope you are all doing well in this first week of the new year. We had a few newbies but they seem to have disappeared as quickly as they arrived.

poorpaws · 05/01/2026 21:17

@thenewaveragebear1983 at least having a girl I don’t have to freeze at football I really don’t envy that.

TalkToTheHand123 · 05/01/2026 23:55

14.5 stone this morning so at my higher weight. Gone off the scales eating tonight. I thought my soup plan would do wonders, but hasn't. Bought a big bag of overnight oats. Hoping to do better with this.

poorpaws · 06/01/2026 07:55

@TalkToTheHand123 It’s always best to know the true facts of your weight I think. If you are on the higher side of your weight it makes you think about it more and plan a little better I find. Let’s hope your weight loss improves this year but it can’t be easy working shifts. I’m trying hard but life gets in the way for all of us.

the family delayed their arrival until this morning, they should be here very soon, one adult, two kids and a dog and we haven’t really got room <sigh>.

it’s very cold and icy here again so DP (another person in my house) is coming down a little later and I think the dog walk will be delayed until late morning again and we’ll be walking four dogs now which is tricky.

have a great day, I’m hoping to stay on track today and I hope you all do well too.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/01/2026 07:18

@TalkToTheHand123soup is good in theory but if it’s just vegetable soup it’s not going to fill you up for long. Do you add protein to it? I like to save all the meat bones and then do a stock in my slow cooker - it takes ages to make but the house smells amazing and it’s low effort. Scoop the bones out after 12 hours and chuck in chunky veg, potato, rice or lentils etc to bulk it out. I need a bit of bite to my soup for it to replace actual meals. I should add as you know I’m not a particularly good soup maker I stick to very standards combinations, I do like a lentil and ham, or a pea soup. If I try to make a vegetable soup it just tastes like watery bland meh!

just did a little mid week weigh in and things are going in the right direction. I must drink more water today but it’s so cold in my kitchen it hurts my teeth to drink it from the tap! We’re low on food today, need to do a shop but there’s still some things left so I am going to have a real mixture today to get things used up and do my order for tomorrow. Last night I had new potatoes, mushrooms, chicken all in a tray bake with pesto on the top, it was really simple and tasty.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/01/2026 07:19

Of the other soup i like is brocolli and cheese, that’s dead easy in the slow cooker too- make your stock, add a head of brocolli and the stalk until it’s soft then chuck in a big wedge of cheese 🧀 😋

It’s still going well here, with food that is but I do need to drink more water and do more exercise. I’m giving myself a break though as this is a tricky month for me and if I keep my food on track that will be enough until the middle of February, tiny steps.

in the shower this morning I felt my stomach had shrunk just a little. It’s not small of course but didn’t feel quite as big. This could well be my imagination or some sort of desperate hope.

Dd has now moved in and we had a lovely evening, it was nice to eat with someone. The kids were at their dads so we had a girly night in just chatting and drinking Diet Coke. The kids are coming today.

im having my hair cut today, its so ready. Usually we walk the mile into town but its been so cold and icy i think we’ll be going in the car.

im desperate to get on the scales and check if ive lost anything since Monday but i promised myself I wouldn’t do that this year or i end up weighing daily and it affects my mood.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/01/2026 21:24

I had a good day, today’s the first day this week where I haven’t ended up eating more than my cals. I had Linda McCartney sausages for dinner, they were really good actually and quite meaty, and they are only 50 cals each so really good on the cals.

just sitting doing my shopping order for the next few days, I’m really trying to made hearty filling meals with lots of veg, and maybe beans or pulses as well.

i am having overnight oats with fruit tomorrow, then I am out all day at the office, then dinner will be hopefully delivered in my shopping order!

OP posts:
poorpaws · 08/01/2026 07:24

Good morning

@thenewaveragebear1983 I had Linda McCartney sausages years ago and you’ve just reminded me so I’m going to get some.

its been busy here, to say the least. My bungalow is just not big enough for two adults, two kids and four dogs. Dinner last night was a fiasco as dd had to work a little later (she works on the kitchen table) so dinner was delayed. She cooked three separate meals because the kids don't like the same kinds of food whilst I fed four dogs. I ended up with beans on toast as I just couldn’t navigate around the kitchen and I was really hungry. It’s far more difficult than it actually sounds.

we ended up walking to the hairdressers and walking the dogs so my step count definitely improved. I’m so hoping I’ve lost a pound this week as I’m really trying with my food. Dd and the kids had chocolate biscuits yesterday and I had a satsuma instead and actually it was very sweet and I didn’t feel deprived.

im very sad today as it’s a year since my wonderful dog died but I’m trying hard not to think about it and feel grateful for the ones I’ve got.

my plan today is to keep out of the way, keep out of DDs working area and keep quiet. I’ll walk the dogs but I’m not sure what else as life seems to be on hold for this month. DP hasn’t mentioned going to our cafe which I find strange so I’m staying quiet until I find out why.

Thursday already, it seems impossible. Have a lovely day,

TheaBrandt1 · 08/01/2026 08:01

Lost 2 stone in 2020 kept it off for 3 years but with menopause and snacking crept back on.

SW 11st 70kg
gw 10st 2 62 kg

Did do IF and daily cardio in2020 but lapsed into biscuits cake and granola.

Going hardcore now will have omelette and salad at 11am homemade soup for snack late pm normal dinner on small plate then kitchen closed. No snacks or sugar. Evening scoffing of sweet things my downfall. If I go to bed hungry so be it.

poorpaws · 08/01/2026 08:06

@TheaBrandt1 hi, I’m doing no sugar for three months, one week in and doing ok. I’m surprised I’m not struggling more really but I am having natural sugars in fruit etc and they are really helping.

good luck with your new regime.

TheaBrandt1 · 08/01/2026 08:10

I can’t have any. If I have one biscuit I have 3 or 4. So I will have none. I am allowed one chocolate after dinner take it and run to sitting room away from kitchen. Then clean my teeth.

Determined to lose this stone. BMI 25 want to be back to 22.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/01/2026 17:07

Hi @TheaBrandt1 I was also supposed to be doing sugar free but I actually forgot this and have been eating sugar! So will start next week!

I had a long day today and I’ve eaten loads of gluten free stuff which is packed full of chemicals and other things to hold it together and stop it falling to dust. Delish 🙄

shopping not coming until 8-9 and potentially never as that is the predicted start of the 24 hours of expected snowfall. So watch this space. We may be eating a real assortment of back of the cupboard delights!

anyone else forecast snow? ❄️

Good evening all

whilst I am actually typing this my family are in the kitchen eating a MacDonalds meal plus desserts. I was invited of course but I declined 😇

the family have done a huge food shop so whilst they were out I prepared and ate my jacket potato with cottage cheese, big salad and burger. I’ve also had yogurt and grapes for dessert and now I’m sitting drinking a Diet Coke with some of the MacDonalds smell whaffting under the door.

i also think I omitted to tell you that yesterday a friend called whilst we were on a late dog walk and left two packets of chocolates by the back door. One was a new Malteser gingerbread reindeer pack which I’ve given to DP as I don’t like gingerbread and the other was Reese’s peanut butter miniature cups which I’m sure I will like but can’t eat.

so I am being extra good and sticking to a food plan. Exercise is still not good as it’s been torrential rain here all day so we haven’t been out. It’s windy as hell tonight as well but tomorrow is supposed to be better.

all in all I can’t complain about my progress and I’m hoping to see a loss this week. I’m not sure whether to change my weigh-in to Sunday morning as it might be less hectic than Monday but I’ll think about it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/01/2026 08:37

You are a slimming angel @poorpaws!

we have a fair bit of snow this morning, just had a slushy slippy walk, it really burns the glutes walking in it!
shopping made it through yesterday so I have stocked fridge and a few nice recipes for over the weekend. Tonight I am doing pork meatballs with cannellini beans in a tomato/ cream sauce 😋 i have loads of potatoes so will do jackets at lunch as the kids are off with snow ❄️

Good morning

another day done yesterday and again it’s going well. I managed to do a bit longer walk as the weather was a little better.

i feel I am being really tested as the family had giant toffee cookies from a local patisserie that luckily I haven’t heard of but omg they looked and smelled so good - I refrained but it was difficult. It’s feeling as if every day something comes along to tempt me but the thought of being slimmer (a lot slimmer) feels the much better choice for me.

its hard to believe I am starting day 10 of no sugar, its gone so quickly, and if I can lose just 1 lb every single week I’ll be so pleased. With such a huge loss in the first few days I’m worried about this weeks weigh-in but we’ll see how it goes.

how are you doing? By now the new routines should be settling and the scales should be kind.

the forecast is a lovely day today and a very nasty Sunday so im planning a longer walk today and tomorrow i am having a complete day off as the family will be out until evening and i feel I need a relaxing home alone day.

i hope everyone has a lovely weekend, hopefully mine will be very quiet.
