How about losing one stone by Christmas 🌲

Clitmandu · 14/09/2025 08:22

There are 14 weeks until Christmas. I’m thinking just one pound a week would crack a stone off and make a big difference.

One pound a week is doable and not too much pressure.

I am starting today, my plan is to stop being so bloody greedy and stop the mindless all day long scoffing.

Weigh in every Sunday.

Am off to dust off the scales and weigh myself, I will report back !

Would love some company.

@thenewaveragebear1983That’s really interesting about your anxiety. I recommend reading Grain Brain by Dr David Perlmutter, it’s eye opening.

TipsyCoralPeer · 01/10/2025 07:39

I’m a bit late but I’d love to join please.
The scales this morning was a bit of shock.
73.20kg

@TeamToeBeansthank you, I have ordered that book šŸ‘

I weighed myself for 1st October and I’m 11.7 1/2 lbs - exactly as I started September! Annoyingly, I did actually dip as low as 11.1 during the month, but various social things at the tail end of the month have seen it all back on.

Does anyone else find that they just seem to have a ā€˜range’ of about half a stone where you just swing wildly between the top and bottom but never actually lose anything or gain anything more? I seem to diet all the time, reach that bottom number, then 2 days later I’m back up to the top again and start the long process of losing the same few pounds again. I have done this pretty much constantly for years now.

Pretty normal - you're maintaining within a range. That's where I was until I left that job last year.

Need to shift my normal range down best part of 10kg now. I've rowed already this morning. Breakfast now and pilates later

Loolayloolaylay · 01/10/2025 09:48

I'd love to join, I had my Son two years ago, and still haven't lost the weight I put on! Im currently 12 stone 8lbs.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/10/2025 16:06

@Harrysmummy246but how do you actually shift to actually losing? I am not at target yet. I already exercise every day and logistically I can’t really do any more, although I guess I could increase the intensity. So the only solution is just to eat even less. I suppose it’s just a plateau really but it’s been a very very long one!

Usually I actually start tracking and then horrifying myself once I realise the snacks etc add up. Fewer glasses of wine.
Avoid the evening snacking.
And then up my activity levels. If I'm doing 10ish hours of exercise a week, tends to make a difference. That's not been on point over the summer and whilst it's not an excuse, recent ADHD diagnosis means I'm learning where some unrealised barriers to this are

But until a year ago I was working 45hr weeks outside, on my feet. So my activity levels definitely went down.

If you're staying in that same range, a modest deficit - e.g. 1-200 cal less per day should do the job.

AreYouBrandNew · 01/10/2025 18:10

@thenewaveragebear1983 @Harrysmummy246 i agree that calorie tracking esp with newer apps and linked to smart watch can be quite revealing.

I can maintain quite well but that’s no good at bmi of 29. Low steps (similar to less active job @Harrysmummy246 ) make a difference for me - I could burn 500/600 calories on a run but I need to burn another 500 via steps.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/10/2025 19:42

Thanks both for your comments. I already walk 2-3 miles every day with the dog, work at a standing up desk, and run 3 times a week and now I do strength training bootcamp as well, twice. I’m tired, I don’t think I can realistically do any more. I already feel hungry, if I run I have to be so careful with what I eat because I could eat 1000’s of calories. I don’t snack in the evening, I dont drink loads and in September I haven’t drunk at all. I am really trying to focus on the quality of my food, getting more veg in and different things to add variety (eg tonight I had chickpeas in lemon and tahini dressing as my side) - it’s just a bit depressing. I keep on because if I stop I will gain half a stone that won’t go so I have to!

today I had ham, salad, a gluten free pitta and cherry toms, and for dinner I have had a simply cook recipe kit of lamb koftas and those chickpeas, salad and yogurt/mint dressing. I’ve walked the dog and done bootcamp. I’m really tired now

AreYouBrandNew · 01/10/2025 19:56

@thenewaveragebear1983 it sounds like you are doing everything right.

I’m a real data person so the only thing that helped me was proper calorie tracking esp on the food and knowing exactly what I was taking in.

Cutting from 2000+ to 1600 calories has made a difference for me.

ive tracked calories a bit in the past but I am properly weighing things now plus the apps are easier to use. Now I’ve tracked I am a lot more realistic about things like butter and mayonnaise in a sandwich. Plus my protein and fibre intake is massively improved.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/10/2025 06:45

Can I join too? Ive zero motivation! Start everyday off well then depressingly eat too much after work! Happy to lose anything. Im 5ft 5.5 inches. Weighing in at 12.10.

CautiousOptimist · 02/10/2025 06:50

Thanks to some cracking motivation on this thread I’m 72.8kg this morning so 1.3kg down in 2 weeks with 12 weeks to go until Christmas.
I’m away this weekend with family, and food will be a big part of the occasion! Part of life, but I want to limit the damage to my progress if I can. I’m going to stay off alcohol and try to rein in my portion sizes.
Have a good day everyone.

RidingMyBike · 02/10/2025 09:27

Feeling pleased as I managed to avoid temptation at the cafe at work yesterday and have stayed on track!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2025 20:40

Feeling so tired today and have had palpitations all day which is usually a sign that I’m coming down with something, and stupidly I have ended up eating loads of chocolate . I’ve not been for a run all week and i’m just generally feeling a bit flat and low.

I’m not going to dwell on it though, I’ve planned my foods for tomorrow and I will try to get out for a run before work. I’ve had a super busy few weeks, next week should be a bit quieter and I should hopefully be able to get out a bit more frequently. I need to be a bit more disciplined with my food, but I’m stuck in a bit of a rut and nothing really excites me food wise. Lunches especially, I have no desire to eat salad and I’m not eating bread, so I never know what I want.

blizymitzy · 03/10/2025 09:13

I’m 2 lb down since September 18th and really proud of myself as I have not done my usual of loosing a pound then rewarding myself with being ā€œgood ā€œ and putting it back on by treating myself!
I'm really motivated and happy and content that I’m loosing weight even if it’s slow.
thanks guys

Alioopsidaisy · 03/10/2025 09:30

Well done! That's brilliant!! x

AreYouBrandNew · 03/10/2025 16:12

How have everyone’s weeks been?

had a slow/maintenance couple of days which is not ideal before a non cal day but will keep going. Steps doing pretty well. Weight holding.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/10/2025 17:20

I’ve had a better day today, I have felt a bit more focussed and not had such strong cravings. I’m really tired , I need a restful weekend after a couple of back to back crazy weeks. I had a sore throat all day so I didn’t even attempt to go for a run, but I roll walk this evening even though it is windy out there.
tonight we are having a simply cook recipe kit, a mild curry, which I will make with chicken thigh fillets. I’ve allocated some calorie allowance for some rice but I might actually just have a big pile of veg instead

I’m exactly the same. For the past few years I’ve ranged in 4kg up and down all the time. I get to the lower end but I can’t stay there because I’m exhausted and usually famished (even though I’ve tried high protein etc). It’s terribly frustrating and I’m at a loss what else to do! Can’t do any more movement as I become stupidly tired… which then makes me want a treat… just to say you’re not alone!

NotnowMavis · 04/10/2025 07:29

I had a weekend away, and came back with an extra pound. Infuriating, but I suppose my own fault as I didn’t exactly monitor my intake (no puddings or chocolate, but alcohol … always my downfall). Since coming back I have been quite busy, another Pilates class and a bike ride or two. This mornings weigh in: 8st 9 lb. So my extra pound has gone. Keep on keeping on everyone.

Harrysmummy246 · 04/10/2025 10:11

Jury is still out on what the scales might say on Monday but as a non-scale victory- the running bra that I'd been avoiding as it was a bit too tight to be in the effective and more into ouch fit was back into effective and not ouch yesterday.

AreYouBrandNew · 04/10/2025 12:19

So I weighed myself this morning and I’m back up to 13st 10 which is probably a more fair loss of a couple of lbs in two weeks.

but in non scale news I’m messaging from the outdoor swim changing room and just put my wetsuit on in record time. A definite improvement from August. It’s fitting better. Hooray!

Mathsbabe · 04/10/2025 13:27

Please can I join. I know I’m late to the party but I want to lose 4kg, or just under 9lb by Christmas.
I’m a gym going veggie.

KrazyboutKillian · 04/10/2025 14:35

I joined weeks ago …. And done sod all ! Not cut down or excercised
feel and look crap
so best foot forward here I go again

NotBendyEnough · 04/10/2025 21:02

I'm exactly the same weight as last week. I realised at Pilates that I can't do some of the exercises that I was able to do a few years ago. I'm not worrying too much about the weight but am pleased that I'm back in the moving/exercising mindset.
