Do I look 3-5 stone overweight?

Obsesetits · 27/08/2025 09:04

I know I’m overweight, absolutely.

I also know we shouldn’t take much notice of BMI because it’s a load of rubbish. But I checked anyway to see what a normal healthy range would be for my height/age and it’s coming up with between 6st 11lbs, and 9st 2lbs. I’m 12st 2lbs currently, I have a 5 and 3 year old and until recently had a 9-5 WFH job so I got too comfortable too close to the fridge 🤣

Even as a teen I’ve always had wider hips, bigger thighs and I was an E cup at 14. So I’ve always seen myself as on the curvier side. I’m much more jiggly now after two kids but I cannot ever imagine myself to be 7stone?! I was really shocked to see that I should lose 3-5 stone! I was expecting maybe 2-3.. but over 3 seems impossible without having a breast reduction 🤣

ps… ignore my extremely discoloured bra and non-matching undies.. it was a comfort day 🤣

No pic yet…

I am 12st 2 too, 5ft 4.

Some days I look ok, other days I feel like I look huge. I was 13 exactly in June which is my biggest ever, and aim to be 10 something by Christmas, even 10st 13 will be good!

If you don’t feel happy change if, if you couldn’t give a stuff, then don't change it, I wish I could be happy with how I look but it just makes me feel horrible as it doesn’t sit right.

IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 27/08/2025 09:10

I don’t think 5!

Why dont you do a stone at a time? That’s my plan anyway. You could take pics for each stone list and compare? Happy to do the journey with you. Could do with moral support!

Hercisback1 · 27/08/2025 09:13

How tall are you? That's a very small ideal weight range and you don't look small but there's nothing for reference. Where did you get that information?

Beyondburnout · 27/08/2025 09:13

You look like me and yes I could lose 3-5 stone.

BuicksACentury · 27/08/2025 09:15

You look really similar to me! I also assume I will look and feel good with a 2 stone loss. I think my ideal weight is around the top of my BMI range. I've got a big head, hands and feet and broader shoulders and hips so I'm not built to be waif-like.

Happy to join the journey!

CosyNavyLeader · 27/08/2025 09:16

Are you happy with the way you look?

I don't think you look massively overweight. I think you look curvaceous.

WashableVelvet · 27/08/2025 09:16

You’re not five stone overweight in that case, you’re five stone above being under weight. Pretty different!

Given you say you’ve always had a larger figure, and given that BMI is only valid at a population level not for individuals, I think you’re right not to imagine yourself at 7 stone and that weight would probably not be a good fit for you at all.

Yes I’m at my heaviest ever too! I feel pretty minging tbh but I’m lacking motivation big time.

I’m 5ft exactly so I'm all compacted into one small stump of flubber at the moment 🤣 I’d love to have slimmer thighs and be way more toned.. otherwise im actually not mad about how I look at all. Sometimes I get that bit of extra fat if im wearing high waisted jeans and a tight top which I hate looking at. But losing 3+ stone feels impossible at this point in my life 🤣

You look similar to me and I am 160lb at 5ft 5 isn't. So I would say that's about right. I have another stone to be top end of healthy and 4 to be bottom end. But just go one at a time if you intend to lose weight as it might depend where it goes from. I'm size 8 on top and 8-12 bottom depending on style. Very jiggly though.

That’s the plan! I try not to look at the scales too much tbh. I tend to look in the mirror more and watch for changes I like, then weigh to see what’s made the change.

id love some encouragement from others in a similar position!

You look like I did when I was 13 stone 7 at 5 foot 4. My bra size was 34 H. I was obese. BMI is accurate for most people. What is your height/BMI?

I have lost over four stone this year and feel and look like a different person. I used Mounjaro.

If you want to lose weight, maybe aim for the top end of a healthy BMI and take it from there. Being overweight and carrying around all those extra pounds of fat around your heart and other organs is more and more difficult to manage as you get older.

Good luck 💐

OpheliaNightingale · 27/08/2025 09:22

@Obsesetits What’s this username lol?! You have a lovely shape, is it hourglass? I think those dresses fitted under the bust would suit you and show off your figure. I think they are called empire line? If you ever need a nice dress. I wouldn’t have said you have a lot of weight to lose personally x

niclw · 27/08/2025 09:23

IBefore I had by dc I lost weight and was just within the normal range for BMI. I looked too thin. Family member and co-workers begged me not to try and lose more weight. I had no intention of doing so anyway but it was in the back of my mind that I was only just in the normal weight range. A few years later and a little bit heavier, I had a consultant appt for fertility treatment. I knew at the time of the appt that I had gone over their threshold for BMI but she looked at me and said you’ve got big boobs, chunky thighs and wide hips. BMI does not work for you. It not accurate for your body shape. She ignored my BMI and my treatment started. After losing weight and looking on the verge of ill a few years earlier, I decided to listen to this consultant and never go by BMI again. I would recommend what a PP suggested. Lose weight a stone at a time and see where you are happy with yourself.

I’m not unhappy, but I want to be healthy. I don’t want to be obese or overweight. But I’m not that upset when I look in the mirror. My biggest insecurities are my boobs and thighs.

I’m 5’2 and looked fine at 7st, so that ideal weight range sounds about right to me. I’m 11st now and look similar to you, and definitely looked better at more like 9st.

Do I look 3-5 stone overweight?
IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 27/08/2025 09:25

Right! Let’s do this.

I weigh daily for accountability, it’s the only thing that works for me, I don’t obsess though and know this isn’t ideal for some people. So if we all just do what works for ourselves and push each other along?

I aim to eat less than my daily calories, but I don’t over complicate things..

Breakfast when I am at work is usually a rice cake and peanut butter with a banana. I do need new lunch options as I can’t manage on a cup of soup and more rice cakes! Evening meal is meat with half a plate of mixed veg and whole grain rice or mash, frozen mash so I can count the blocks to make sure I am using the right amount.

I will have has much fruit as I want which granted is probably 3-4 portions a day, one usually after the evening meal with yogurt.

I lost 2lb a week following this, but my holiday and being off work messed my routine.

IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 27/08/2025 09:27

I changed my crisps to Aldi lentil puffs which I can’t seem to find anymore, so on the lookout for something around 80cals a bag.

I had never had a babybel until June this year but they have been a daily staple 😂

indoorplantqueen · 27/08/2025 09:28

I’m 1.5 inches taller than you and have been your current weight and definitely look and felt overweight. I’m currently 10st and look my best about 4-5 lbs less than this. My chest is not as large as yours so that might account for it. I think you have a lovely curvy figure though. If I got to the bottom of my bmi, I think I’d look skeletal (think it’s 7st 6). The smallest I’ve been in my adult life was 9st and people often commented that I was ‘tiny’.

CreepyCoupe · 27/08/2025 09:28

Honestly? Yes, you look like you’re at least 3 stone overweight. I’d have said 4.

Radiatorvalves · 27/08/2025 09:29

I’m 9 3/4 stone (61kg) having lost just over a stone recently. At 5”5’ I’m a small size 12. I feel loads better. BMI is 22.6 fwiw.

I’d try and take steps to improve your diet and cut out snacks. Aim to lose a stone. See how you feel. But being brutal I think that 9 stone should be your ultimate goal.

IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 27/08/2025 09:29

Oh and I also don’t do any exercise! I know I should but I just don’t.

IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 27/08/2025 09:30

@Obsesetits am I ok to DM you?

Dogsrbrill · 27/08/2025 09:33

You look like I did before I lost 3 1/2 stone , I honestly only did it for my knees and general health . It's find if your happy as you are

IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 27/08/2025 09:34

Right, I’ll be back later as I need to carry on with the kitchen declutter. All cupboards are being emptied and organised today. I will go back to work with a clean house!
