I’ve finally come to the end of the road with being a fatty. I’ve had enough of being a size 20/22 and I’m finally going to actually do something it once and for all!

I plan on starting tomorrow without fail..

i will weigh myself in the morning but I’m roughly 17 stone! Which at 5.4 is massive… I’m fed up
of feeling shit and tired insecure unhappy and embarrassed by my size I avoid most social situations.. I want to be fit healthy and be able to run around walk up hills and play with my small children without feeling like I’m dying after 2 mins of running…

I know it’s going to be a long hard slog and there will be slip ups along the way no doubt but I’m determined to do it this time.

im going to use this as a journal kinder thing and something I can look back on.. I will weigh myself every Monday and update.. if anyone wants to join feel free and if no one does at least I can read back haha..

my plan is low carb and calorie count having about 1400 calories a day roughly.. While also trying to get 10k steps in a day which might be a challenge as I’m so unfit…

i wish myself and everyone luck :) xxx

Havnt been tracking. Iv been doing lots of driving but trying to be mindful of what im eating. Havnt weighed in for a little while. Im due for my period next week so il wait for all that to be over and then start weighing in again. I feel like im fully bloated and yucky and just living on quick snacks on the run to keep me going.

LucyJoanCarlyle · 16/06/2025 00:04

@Miraclemuma03 I always feel so tired after driving, have to remind myself that actually I haven't done any exercise and I could really do with a walk!

@Tibby2024 I looked at Huel too but wasn't sure I'd like it, and it's £££ to give it a go - I did actually quite like the Slimfast chocolate shakes but they used to give me a terrible vinegary aftertaste for hours Confused

Still not much progress here, I really lack planning time, have meant to meal plan and shop properly for weeks now Blush plus, as I said upthread, DP is so unhelpful - he is massively overweight and occasionally will really let rip at me about it, we're not helping him lose weight, we feed him too much, we have too much chocolate in the house etc - but when we do try to do something he just takes the unhealthy route anyway! This weekend we (me + DC) did a 5K walk to raise money for their school - he wouldn't take part. Their sports club did some kids v dads activities at their fun day - he sulked and wouldn't take part. There was a BBQ at the fun day, he'd just had a big lunch but still just hung around the BBQ until they started bringing bits out, then ate twice as much as any of the other dads. This partly makes me sad - he could lose weight a lot more quickly than me if he just gave it a proper go - and partly frustrated on my behalf - how am I ever going to lose weight if he is constantly holding us back from being active?!

Better think a bit more on this in the next couple of days...

Miraclemuma03 · 16/06/2025 05:18

Stupid me weighed today after I got home this morning. Im due for a period and im bloated plus I ate and now I have completely set myself up for failure. Half of what i have lost has seemed to make its way back on. Last weigh in I was 88.1kg when I weighed in today after saying I wouldnt, im up at 90.6kg wtf !!!! Im devastated. I know I havnt been tracking but this is ridiculous. How is it even possible to gain that much in a short period of time. Ahh its always 1 step forward and 50 steps back . It's been 18months on this journey and I cant keep off what I lose let alone lose extra. Im so damn busy all the time I never make myself a priority. I dont make time to cook for myself, I always forget to log my meals. I barely have time to exercises or go for a walk around the lake because im on such a time crunch I cant fit in. Iv now injured my back and have extremely limited movement that even driving is difficult. Im just not catching a break any where I turn. I just need a minute to take a big breath in but its not happening for me. I could just scream.

Sending lots of good energy your way @Miraclemuma03 - deep breath as the period hormones will definitely be playing a part in how you’re feeling. I had this last week too. You just feel rubbish but you’re doing great! Each little loss will build up. That’s what I’m telling myself. I also get incredibly bloated around totm and it’s very upsetting. Give yourself a break of sorts to come through the other side x

Sending lots of support! It’s super hard doing this without help and in the face of someone who is actively being unsupportive and unhelpful. I’m sure given your post you don’t have a lot if free time but if you can read “Let Them” by Mel Robbins. Some of what you’ve said about your frustrations with your husband - she talks about dealing with behaviours similar in relationships. It may help with your mindset.
In essence she talks about how the only person’s behaviour you have control of is your own. That is hugely freeing. Let him continue on his journey. Let me show him and me what being healthy looks like. She says it a lot better!
In terms of planning and prep, have you considered using Chat GPT to meal plan and devise a shopping list. You just put your goals, what kind of food you want and even the shop you want to use. It suggests a menu and then you can adapt it and also ask it for a shopping list. It’s really helpful.
You are already doing amazing! A 5k is so good :)

LucyJoanCarlyle · 16/06/2025 10:20

Well done @Cazs818 !!

@Miraclemuma03 I completely understand where you're coming from, it feels like everyone else's needs are more important than mine, and I don't get a minute to myself to even think about how I could improve things... could you take a day or two off to catch up with everything? And if possible not tell anyone, so you actually have some time to yourself without anyone saying "well if you're off, can you do X for me...?"

Thank you @rahlikeatiger, I'll have a look at Mel Robbins. I would love to find an activity with the DC that I could just take them out to do when DP is in a mood! When they're a bit older it will be the gym, but I can't find anything they both want to do at the moment. We do have friends with DC who will suggest that (for example) we take all the kids out for a walk/ bike ride - then DP sulks because he won't be able to keep up, so we end up not doing it - we have to take them to a park or similar instead where they can play and he can just sit on a bench Confused

I think it just really got to me yesterday after we did a 5K walk in the heat on quite a hilly route whilst DP sat in the shade and waited for us - afterwards we went home and he immediately flopped down on the sofa like whew, that was exhausting - and I thought, you have literally done NOTHING but now you're going to let me run round getting the kids showered, sorting out dinner etc whilst you just sit!!

Tibby2024 · 16/06/2025 11:17

@Tibby2024 thanks & thanks everyone else , I’m on a proper mission at the moment my wedding dress don’t fit and I’m a stubborn mule and refuse to buy a new one

LucyJoanCarlyle · 16/06/2025 13:19

Forgot to say, 20K steps is awesome @Cazs818, I'm usually over 10K but don't think I could find time to do more!

Having said that I do rely on my Fitbit to get me moving 😂

Cheering you on! Also agree 20k of steps is brilliant x

TheSillySausage83 · 16/06/2025 19:51

I'm doing the same - I do think it helps to keep a journal. I've done it before on here but unfortunately lost focus/will power and it all crept back on again...I'm doing 1400 calories (on average) per day as well on this Italian diet thing I came across a few weeks ago.

Looking forward to following your diary. How have you found today? I've done alright I think but it always seems easy in the early days then the will power wears off a bit - need to find a way to keep it going! 😣

TheSillySausage83 · 16/06/2025 19:52

Also meant to say, I wish I could get to 20k steps (or even 10k!) - any advice would be lovely!

LucyJoanCarlyle · 16/06/2025 23:25

A journal has really helped me before @TheSillySausage83 - paper is better for me but I know apps work better for some people! Have you tried a smartwatch/ step counter? My Fitbit was v cheap secondhand (about £20 from CEX!) but does the job of keeping me motivated Smile

TheSillySausage83 · 17/06/2025 06:39

I used to have a Fitbit @LucyJoanCarlyle but have no idea where it is now! Might have to go through some of my drawers later!

Tibby2024 · 17/06/2025 10:30

I need to buy a Fitbit or something that’s counts my steps as I’ve starting upping them so would like to know how many I’m doing at the moment I’m just guessing lol…

OP posts:
Cazs818 · 17/06/2025 11:38

Would be lost without my Fitbit , I’ve set hourly reminders if my activity drops it will tell me to move my butt 🤣

LucyJoanCarlyle · 17/06/2025 13:39

I know Apple watches and the like work for some people but I'm happy with my cheap Fitbit, less 'stuff' on it and if I lose it it's only about £20 gone Grin plus CEX give a 24 month warranty which is handy.

Pre-DC I used to treat myself to a lovely new Fitbit every couple of years but one which is a bit old and battered round the edges much like I am is fine now!

I was constantly on the go yesterday and did 19K steps but sadly didn't make it to 20K, I'm in awe of anyone who does that regularly!!

Cazs818 · 17/06/2025 14:27

Being perfectly honest before my wedding dress arrived I was lucky if I was averaging 5-6k steps daily

Sunday is my cheat day so to speak less exercise and only one dog walk be it a longer one drops my steps down to 14-15k

rest of the week I’m managing 19k-23k

My calories are hovering between 1200-1400 daily , pain in arse weighing everything out and tracking but it’s the only way to be sure I’m in a deficit

water intake 2.2l -3l , I’ve cut the fizzy and teas right down

TheSillySausage83 · 17/06/2025 14:40

Right - that's it, I'm getting my bum moving, you lot have inspired me! Almost feel ready for a new dog as well after losing ours last year 😥which might help. Can't find the missing Fitbit so might have to suck it up and buy a new one 😅

bluebellsandspring · 18/06/2025 12:06

You are all doing so well. I have a step tracker on my watch and it does help me to keep more active. I am trying to make sure I average 10,000 steps a day. It has dropped recently and I'm currently at 9800, but want to get it back up again. I've been focusing on eating better which for me means more veg and less processed food. It was to try and reduce my blood pressure and I have been successful in that but I've not lost any weight. On the positive side, I've not put on anything either. I'm in for the long haul and want to lose weight, reduce blood pressure and increase exercise/fitness.

Tibby2024 · 19/06/2025 09:43

Well I had a cheeky look and weighed myself today and not to be smug or anything ;) but I’ve lost 4 lbs since Monday :) woohoo!! must be the heat and me doing more walking, no where near as much as @Cazs818but more than I normally do.. hoping to lose another 2 by Mondays weigh in.. hope everyone else is doing well.. and not dying of the heat to much.. I got to admit I don’t love the heat but I’m coping better than normal as soon as I get home I tend to
strip
off and let myself die for 10 mins just to
cool
down lol. I need to get a hose fitted so I can hose myself down after a walk bliss x
