I’ve finally come to the end of the road with being a fatty. I’ve had enough of being a size 20/22 and I’m finally going to actually do something it once and for all!

I plan on starting tomorrow without fail..

i will weigh myself in the morning but I’m roughly 17 stone! Which at 5.4 is massive… I’m fed up
of feeling shit and tired insecure unhappy and embarrassed by my size I avoid most social situations.. I want to be fit healthy and be able to run around walk up hills and play with my small children without feeling like I’m dying after 2 mins of running…

I know it’s going to be a long hard slog and there will be slip ups along the way no doubt but I’m determined to do it this time.

im going to use this as a journal kinder thing and something I can look back on.. I will weigh myself every Monday and update.. if anyone wants to join feel free and if no one does at least I can read back haha..

my plan is low carb and calorie count having about 1400 calories a day roughly.. While also trying to get 10k steps in a day which might be a challenge as I’m so unfit…

i wish myself and everyone luck :) xxx

@LucyJoanCarlyle yep - that’s why I gave it a try- don’t get me wrong I’m not saying never again but at the moment I’m going to see how I get along without - as you say not everyone gets side effects and they often reduce - for me the heartburn was the most unpleasant thing and I felt it was totally restricting what I ate in terms of choice - I like spicy tasty food ( just sensible portions at moment) and I like cooking - that was a no no ( for me) - became all about chicken salads , eggs, Greek yoghurt and cottage cheese - all of which I like but somewhat dull for long periods.

bluebellsandspring · 14/05/2025 16:58

How is everyone getting on? I've been trying to do a bit better, but have still been eating crisps. I have been eating much more salad though, which can only be a good thing. Overall I'm hoping for slow but steady progress.

LucyJoanCarlyle · 14/05/2025 23:38

@Crikeyalmighty I have a GP appointment in a couple of weeks to talk about my high blood pressure - one of the things they'll mention is my weight - I don't know if they'll suggest WLI and if they do, whether I'd try them?! I don't really think appetite is my problem so much as getting organised to eat more healthily and do more exercise, though!

@SueSuddio I don't usually eat till after 9am anyway, by the time I've got the DC to school and got home again - it's the stopping eating at 6pm that I'd find tricky Blush

@bluebellsandspring DP takes salad every day with his packed lunch - I just find it such a pain to have to keep buying fresh stuff every few days - plus I end up spending more by going to the supermarket more often!

SueSuddio · 15/05/2025 09:20

@LucyJoanCarlyle you could still try it, you just leave a 15 hour gap. So if you stop eating at say 10pm you'd only begin eating at say 1pm the next day. My SIL does this as she's late night snacker after her shift work.

lunaswand · 15/05/2025 09:53

Been sticking to plan with my eating but want to increase my activity. Any tips for this please? I struggle with activity being so overweight & having a heart issue.

WelshBookWitch · 15/05/2025 09:56

Hi everyone - I'm feeling despondent, I've been stuck at 116kg for several weeks now despite doing my best with diet. It's making me slip back to snacking " as what difference does it make seeing as I am not losing anyway?"
I think honestly it's my activity that is the problem. My job is full time and largely sedentary, on a very busy day I can barely move from my desk and I can't get more than 4000 steps in. I try to go for a walk at lunchtime but we've been so busy I can barely get out.
I'm off on Guide camp next weekend - carb overload

Small steps and moderation are goals. You don't have to stop everything just eat more mindful.. some progress is better then no progress no matter how slow. It's the start that matter.

bluebellsandspring · 15/05/2025 12:40

@lunaswand I used a step tracker. Initially I had a very low target due to illness. I think it was 3500 steps a day. I made sure I met that target every day and then after a fortnight I increased it by 500 steps and carried on doing that. I've been at 10,000 steps a day for a while now. I don't always manage them if I'm busy but my step tracker gives me an average and my aim is to keep that above 10,000 (it is currently about 9500 for various reasons). I was also given a watch with a fitness tracker. It has a function on it that gives you a score for each activity depending on how much your heart rate has risen. It wouldn't work for everyone, but I like a target and try to make sure I get at least some points each day. In practice this means I walk a little bit faster. There will be lots of other ways to get into exercise but this has been a very gentle way for me to increase my activity level.

Crikeyalmighty · 15/05/2025 19:01

@bluebellsandspring active 10 on your phone too is good for that - I did laugh at your gently getting into excercise -I went to 2 dance excercise classes this week - first one was a ‘club’ and it’s about learning routines - was quite tough but a lot of fun and very ‘mixed’ in terms of sizes and abilities - so brimming with confidence I tottered off to one at the leisure centre 2 days later ( last night) - blimey this was a bit hardcore and less mixed and I now know two things, I can’t jump at all with my feet off the floor or stand on 1 leg with the other leg up in the air behind me and leaning forwards - still I was0.4 kg down this morning from previous day !!

bluebellsandspring · 15/05/2025 19:38

@Crikeyalmighty I've been taking things very gently following illness. I'm hoping in time I'll be able to cope with an exercise class but am worried it would be too much for me at the moment and I'd end up having to sit out. My progress is slow but hopefully steady.

Crikeyalmighty · 15/05/2025 19:54

@bluebellsandspring I totally know how you feel - I had awful neuro stuff with long covid and very bad arthritis in my neck for about a year after everything else improved - one reason I put more weight on during that period was I was eating the same but a total lack of any excercise - I do confess I stood out a few’moves’. -

LightGirl · 16/05/2025 07:11

Knee issues?
Any active workout for me ends up with me hurting my knee. Fast walking is okay, but literally, who's got 2 hours time each day to walk??
Does anybody here has low-key knee safe workouts? I realized its easier to do cardio when you are 65 kg, than when you're 80.

Miraclemuma03 · 17/05/2025 00:52

Yoga and pilates might be more up your alley if more physical working out injures your knee. You can do floor exercises rather then standing.

LucyJoanCarlyle · 18/05/2025 23:51

Some realisations here this weekend...

  • DP has no intention of making it easy for me to lose weight/ become fitter - I asked him to look after the DC for a couple of hours this weekend so I could do some admin stuff for him that he's been asking me to do for ages - nope, he couldn't be bothered, sent them round to a neighbour's to play with their DC whilst he nattered to his mate. What chance do I have of him actually being helpful when it's something for me? Sad
  • I seriously need to learn how to meal plan - I cannot think of any way of freeing up any time for myself other than saving time on meal shopping/ cooking
  • I must find an event to train for/ something else to aim for - because otherwise I don't know how else to get my arse into gear on actually starting Confused

@LightGirl could swimming (or aqua aerobics or similar) be any good for you? I would love to swim again but it would take me 2 hours to get to the sports centre, swim, dry, get back etc... and I don't have 2 hours! Or to be fair, I go to a low impact cardio class and that was fine even when I had bad tendinitis, the instructor was great and told me to go at my own pace Smile

bluebellsandspring · 20/05/2025 12:32

How is everyone getting on? I've had a lovely weekend away but it is showing on the scales and I came back four pounds heavier than when I went away. I'm hoping most of it is bloat and it will come off fairly quickly.

lunaswand · 20/05/2025 13:37

Been a good week with sticking to things at WW & down a good few pounds on my first weigh in although I know this is just water.

Dr has just prescribed me with some diuretics as my weight can fluctuate by a huge amount each week & I tend to get puffy feet (heart issues) so likely I will drop a large amount this week then get back to a more realistic weight loss

Miraclemuma03 · 23/05/2025 10:45

Sorry i have been away. My weigh in on Monday was 89.1kg so I had a decent loss this week so I'm happy with that. Hows everyone else going. Havnt been logging my food but have been being mindful of what I put in my mouth. In actual fact I have barely had enough time to even put food in my mouth these days, so there's that lol.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/05/2025 10:53

@Miraclemuma03 identical weight here !!

Im so sorry about your partner. It sounds like you need to set some boundaries in your relationship and family dynamics. As in with your weight loss, its great to stay motivated by having a goal to work towards. Start off small with your goals and work your way up each time you reach them.

Miraclemuma03 · 26/05/2025 04:28

Today. Monday morning. I weighed in and im mad as hell. Somehow I have gained 1kg. Im hoping its because of my period. But I was run off my feet all week, I barely got any food in and what I ate was well under my daily points so technically I should have had some sort of a loss so feeling very defeated with today's weigh in.

bluebellsandspring · 28/05/2025 11:24

I haven't lost any weight but I haven't been eating as well as I could have been. On the plus side, I haven't put any on either. I'm trying to eat better more generally. In particular, I'd like to reduce salt to see if that helps with my blood pressure. Crisps are a real weakness for me though so I need to cut them out and retrain my taste buds so I don't want as much salt in my diet.

Thats good you havnt put any on so that's always a bonus.

No loss for me this week though technically I seemed to have list my period weight so no weight loss since before period. Keep pushing through.

Well I’m finally back!

gave myself a good kick up the arse..

started on Monday weighing 17.7lbs and today I weigh 17.5lbs so 2lbs in 2 days :) I’ve decided to mostly weigh everyday but only calculate weight loss on a Monday as it will probably fluctuate during the week..

feeling ok so far abit hungry here and there but nothing majorly, no headaches so far but I’m only on day 3 lol..

I’ve been sticking to 1400 calories roughly, I’m easing myself in gently so for the 1st 2 weeks won’t be doing to much as don’t want to overdo it…

my goal is 11 stone so I’m in it for the long haul, but I am feeling positive this time,

apart from weight loss I do have other goals like getting off my blood pressure tablets, and to reverse my sleep apnea and having to wear a cpap mask at nighttime’s!

I haven’t read the whole thread so will catch up now on everyone’s progress,

x

My weight has stayed steady. I'm in for the long haul though and so I'm not downhearted about that. I'm trying to build in healthy habits and have been focusing on trying to eat more healthily. I've been cutting down on cakes and biscuits and replacing them with fruit and veg and also trying to reduce a reliance on ready meals. The last couple of years have been difficult for a few different reasons and I started to rely on ready meals. I'm feeling better though now I'm weaning off them. Like Tibby2024 I want to reduce my blood pressure so I'm hoping eating more cleanly will help with that.

bluebellsandspring · 04/06/2025 10:08

I've just looked back at my posts. I have lost three of the pounds that I put on during the weekend away, so it hasn't stayed steady. I'm now one pound up, but I'm putting that down to normal fluctuations.
