A thread to Continue our weight loss journey in 2025. Following on from the who wants to lose 7 pounds for Christmas thread.

I have managed to lose 44 lbs in 2024, am still working on dropping another 28. I am also fitter now than I have been for twenty years, and would like this to continue…daily yoga and walks but also getting back to swimming and maybe cycling.

Showmethefood · 30/12/2024 09:51

Thanks for this :) I lost 9kg at the beginning of this year - paused and maintained for a while and now I’m back on it. Started diet on 27th and have lost 1.5lb so far. It’s not bad - but I lost more in the first couple of days last time 🤷‍♀️ How is everyone doing so far?

Loseit2025 · 30/12/2024 22:21

Hi, thanks for the new thread - joining here with a slightly updated username.

So as I mentioned in the other thread I’ve lost about 14 pounds this year. Most of that was achieved between May and November.

Aiming to lose 10 pounds by early March which will put me at a healthy BMI for the first time since around 2017. Once I’m at a healthy BMI, over the course of the year I’d like to lose a further 7-12 pounds but I’d be ok to at least maintain so I’m no longer overweight.

But first things first - January goal is to lose 5 pounds!

My plans are to cut out/drastically reduce my consumption of refined sugar, flour and ultra processed foods.
To increase my veg, fruit and water intake
To do 50,000 steps a week, so on average 7k every day.
To go plant based one day a week.

I don’t have too much unhealthy stuff in the house right now but I’m clearing out my freezer and using up the last of the flour over the next couple of days. I
only do one big shop a week, and no longer order takeaways so if I don’t have stuff like cakes and cookies (or all the ingredients to make them) in the house, it’s much easier for me to resist.

forgivingfiggy · 31/12/2024 00:52

Yay! I'm pretty sure I've gained all I lost and more. Ive upped my weekly Pilates to two classes. Planning on not drinking for a couple of months maybe. January is grim enough without deprivation though...

Definitely going back to no snacks. I'll weigh myself at some stage. Gin

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 31/12/2024 16:48

Sounds like you are all doing well and have a plan going forward. Me and dh are going to do dry January and I will keep on using Nutracheck. Really need to get back into exercise. Dreading stepping on the scales.

I bought a tin of biscuits in the Tesco reduced section yesterday got home to find they are 220 calories per biscuit!!!

We still have so much drink and snacks left. Think I will box them up and hide someplace.

Wishing you all a fabulous 2025 when it comes.

OP posts:
Loseit2025 · 31/12/2024 17:13

220 calories per biscuit - what the heck have they put in it? Honestly that should be criminal lol.

That’s one thing I like about doing my shopping online - I get to take my time and read the nutritional info.

If it were me I’d probably gift them to a friend who is a marathon runner or something and can easily burn those calories 😆 only because I have a sweet tooth and once they’re open I know I’d burn through them unfortunately!

Happy new year to you too. Roll on a healthy 2025 🥳🎊

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 31/12/2024 17:42

I honestly dread to think what's in them. It's the dark chocolate biscuits with ginger in them. I just really wanted the lovely tin that they came in 🤣 plus to add insult to injury they are really hard I was scared for my teeth 🤣

All the tesco slots got snapped up quickly so I've had to do the Christmas and New year shop in person which was an experience. Think it will take me the whole of 2025 to recover from that. Have a delivery coming on Monday but I've just shoved a bottle of champagne in the basket to hold it. Still need to do my list of healthy foods to order.

I said to dh and dd that I will have one biscuit a month 🤣

Just realised today is Wednesday. My weigh day is tomorrow morning, absolutely dreading it. Planning to get it over and done with quickly then I will know what I am dealing with. Need to check my Nutracheck subscription think it ends soon hopefully they have a offer on.

OP posts:
happytobemrsg · 01/01/2025 21:19

Found you all 😃

Stepped on the scales today and since Christmas Day I’ve actually lost 0.4lb!!! I’m thrilled and completely surprised 😂

SW: 9st 7lb
CW: 9st 5.8lb
TW: 9st 2lb by February (ultimately I want to be 8st 10lb by end of May)

DH is super, super fit but even he had put some weight on over the last few months. Both trying to lose 9/10lb. Given that my biggest downfall is eating of an evening whilst watch tv with DH, if he’s also cutting down it’ll help me massively. We have no crisps in the house which is my biggest temptation. Perhaps I should aim for a no crisp January?!?

Sticking to my usual plan of eating one main meal a day (whatever I want, with a mind to making sure it contains enough protein to keep me full - difficult as I’m 90% veggie). Then something lighter later. I don’t want to drink my calories.

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 02/01/2025 12:59

@happytobemrsg well done on losing weight over Christmas. A no crisps January sounds very brave! Crisps are my weakness and I have loads left. Good shout on the not drinking calories. Lots of luck to you.

Edited to add - Jamie Oliver has good vegetarian recipes.

OP posts:
happytobemrsg · 02/01/2025 13:08

@Thewhisperingwindsofwinter I had to throw uneaten crisps away. I have no will power so it’s best to just get rid of them. We do our food shop online & I'm not adding any crisps! On the upside I will hopefully save a bit of money. I’m weaning my 7m old at the moment & he’s eating so much better than me. I might steal some recipes 😂

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 02/01/2025 13:53

Oh good idea open throwing the open packets away. Sure the packets I have open only have a handful left in them. Mmm will think about it 🤣

I remember when I was weaning ds (he's 25 now) the recipes were so good we all had them 🤣 I still have the book.

When I started the first thread last year, oh my days my Tesco shop basically halved 😳 and our food waste reduced. I was one of those people who buy extra just in case and double up on amounts. An anxiety thing I think.

OP posts:
Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 02/01/2025 13:58

Well I have just weighed myself and its 4 pounds on 😔

New starting weight:
12 stone 11 pounds
Goal weight - 10 stone

I am hoping that doing dry January helps!

Heres to Downwards and Downwards in 2025 everyone Flowers

OP posts:
happytobemrsg · 02/01/2025 14:03

@Thewhisperingwindsofwinter Thats not too bad! Most people will be extra good in January so you’ll easily get that off. If I can distract the DC I might do a yoga session (Yoga With Adriene Day 1) otherwise will have to wait til they are all in bed & I’m super lazy by then

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/01/2025 14:08

Sounds like a plan. I was the fittest and healthiest I’ve ever been pre-pandemic, after a successful campaign of several years with marathon walks, healthy eating and cutting out alcohol (mostly 😁).

With a disabled, compromised husband, it all stopped. Knowing our situation, kindly friends spent 18 months sending tasty goodies and craft gins to our isolating household and it all went south.

My size 8 tummy that you could eat peas off now hangs over my knicker elastic. At 60, with poorly husband (so I know what a desperate situation the NhS is in) I really, really need to get my health back to where it was.

So, following with interest.

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 02/01/2025 18:01

@happytobemrsg thank you 😊 fingers crossed that it goes away in January. I went out for a hours walk today despite the cold weather and have just made some vegetable soup for dinner. How did you get on with yoga? I always forget about Adriene.

@MrsSkylerWhite so sorry to read about your dh it sounds like you have been through tough times Flowers we will all get there together, one day at a time.

In two minds about using Nutracheck this year. So I've ordered a weight loss journal from Amazon not arriving until the 17th though. I used the trydry app to monitor my alcohol last year but deleted that last night and downloaded the NHS one. New year new apps/journals 🤣

4 pounds isn’t bad at all @Thewhisperingwindsofwinter

I seem to have put 1-2 pounds on and my period isn’t due for a week or so I know it’s not that.

I haven’t majorly pigged out most days but just been snacking a bit more on processed frozen food while being off work. It matters so much more what we consume for the next 11 months rather than just the two weeks in December so I won’t beat myself up - it’s upwards and onwards.

My Ocado delivery arrives Saturday and I’m going back to having 2 high volume low calorie meals and one snack every day.

Could I ask what’s your reservations about using Nutracheck? I just use the free Myfitness pal but I’ve considered switching to nutracheck.

happytobemrsg · 02/01/2025 19:23

@Thewhisperingwindsofwinter i managed do do the yoga video! Wasn’t as relaxing as it could have been with DV & DH stomping about but I did it! I also booked in a class for Monday followed by swimming with my mum

@Loseit2025 can you please tell me more about your high volume low cal meals?

Loseit2025 · 02/01/2025 20:55

@happytobemrsg For me it just means bulking up your meals with some healthy extras. So you stay fuller for longer on relatively little calories.

There’s probably some great recipes online but I keep mine simple for now. Off the top of my head - salmon on a plate alongside a tiny bit of rice doesn’t look like much. But if you add sweet pepper, broccoli and roasted green beans the plate is filled and it’s more satiating.

Instead of just a bowl of Greek yoghurt or a bowl of oats I’ll add mixed berries or a banana.

If I’m having mince or chicken breast in mini wraps I’ll add heaps of lettuce & cucumber to each wrap.

Tonight I’ve chucked some sweet potato, and potato along with light coconut milk in my soupmaker and made a huge bowl of soup for dinner. You could also add cooked veg to the soup afterwards to bulk it up further.

Thanks so much! I’d just have to make sure I don’t make the plate look fuller by adding naughty stuff 😂

Hi,
I wasn't on the Christmas thread so is it alright if I join in, please?

@Loseit2025 I love the sound of that soup. Didn't know that coconut milk came in a lighter option.

I have to weigh myself tomorrow, have eaten a lot over Christmas. Slightly dreading it

One resolution is more fruit and veg. I think fruit and yoghurt for breakfast is a good idea. I'm dithering about two meals a day.

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 02/01/2025 23:50

@Loseit2025 I really like Nutracheck it's easy and good to use. My thinking about using the journal is that I can keep it in the kitchen and it's one less thing to use my phone for. I feel everything is phone based. A few pounds over the holidays is good going it's probably water weight do you think?

I pretty much eat like you and bulk up on fruit and veg.

@happytobemrsg well done on managing the yoga with it all going on in the background.

@WatermelonSalad1 welcome and thanks for joining us. There's no pressure on this thread just support. We all just plod along doing our own thing in our own time. I was the same last night dreading the scales this morning, I actually feel better now that it's out the way and I am back into focus mode. Good luck for tomorrow.

@WatermelonSalad1 Yes you can get the lighter version in pretty much all of the main supermarkets. I get mine from Sainsbury’s or Tesco usually!

True, we can end up being so smartphone orientated @Thewhisperingwindsofwinter That makes sense if you can keep up with the journal. I think I’d be less likely to fill mine in if it’s paper based, but then I don’t always use the app either.

Thanks so much! I’d just have to make sure I don’t make the plate look fuller by adding naughty stuff 😂

Yeah if you stick to mainly fruit and veg it works out alright 😆 @happytobemrsg

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 03/01/2025 11:51

Morning everyone
Going to do my Tesco list today does anyone have any ideas for lunches and hot snacks ? Is there such a thing? Think I am covered for dinner ideas but the weather is still really cold and warm snacks would be more comforting.

Dinner ideas
Chicken with peppers
Lamb with kale and beetroot
Salmon with green beans and rice
Roasted vegetables with steak
Soup
Paella
Veg stir fry

Have a great day everyone
