A thread to Continue our weight loss journey in 2025. Following on from the who wants to lose 7 pounds for Christmas thread.

We tend to like Middle Eastern food here so my go to snack is a couple of toasted wholemeal pittas, hummus & Israeli salad (finely chopped cucumber & tomatoes, a little red onion, mint, lemon juice & olive oil).

Or I make a yummy broccoli salad based on this recipe:

health.clevelandclinic.org/recipe-charred-broccoli-tabbouleh-salad

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 03/01/2025 13:28

Those both sound right up my street delicious. Thank you. I also have tahini sp? To use up from when I made humus, perfect.

dododahdahdahdoo · 03/01/2025 14:03

@Thewhisperingwindsofwinter watching with interest as this is what I need too.

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 03/01/2025 14:56

@dododahdahdahdoo do you mean snacks?
I like greek yoghurt with stewed rhubarb. I don't add sugar when stewing just some cinnamon. I like boiled egg mashed in a cup with black pepper. Stumped after that though.

OP posts:
dododahdahdahdoo · 03/01/2025 15:11

@Thewhisperingwindsofwinter yes snacks. I like to graze when WAH and I need something warm. Not bothered about crisps or other crap, but don't want carrots/celery/crudities all day every day ! the greek yoghurt with rhubarb sounds lovely, I am going to give that a try. Plus also stewed apples. TY

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 03/01/2025 15:34

Same thinking as me Grin oh thanks for the stewed apples tip.

Not managed to do my list yet Confused boiler broke so no hot water. Plumbers just been and boiler needs new bits.

Will let you know what I find. Going to have a look for snacks just now to just ignore the hell that is my boiler.

happytobemrsg · 03/01/2025 17:45

@Thewhisperingwindsofwinter what else do you have hummus with?

Oooh another snack I LOVE is natural unsweetened yogurt (we use Yeo Valley) with strawberries, blueberries, grapes & a tablespoon of seeds (flax, chia, sunflower & sesame I think). YUM. Plus it’s a really full bowl so I feel like I’m eating loads.

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 03/01/2025 18:09

We like a bowl of natural yoghurt with berries and seeds too. I like that at night watching TV. I like hummus with breadsticks, cucumber, peppers, carrot sticks things like that.

OP posts:
happytobemrsg · 03/01/2025 20:04

DH go to TV snacks are either homemade popcorn (no toppings) or Sainsbury’s own corn crackers

WatermelonSalad1 · 03/01/2025 20:38

I often do stewed apples in winter

i weighed myself. Have gained about 5lb in 3 weeks that I'd just lost 😱

anyway, today I have been very careful. Didn't feel like a big dinner which is lucky as often when it's cold, I feel disproportionately hungry.

going to look up some stew type recipes tomorrow. Looking at the forecast, I'm going to need them. Got some frozen lamb, think will do something with pearl barley.

Loseit2025 · 05/01/2025 09:11

Love stewed apples. I had them the other day with cinnamon, oats, maple syrup and oatly cream, not sure how healthy it is once they’re drowning in syrup & cream but it sure tasted good. I have a couple of apples needing used up, so I’ll probably have them again for my first meal today at 1pm then do a garlic chicken pasta for dinner at 7pm.

I was doing about 7-10K steps a week, but stopped for a while as my long-standing leg injury was bothering me a bit. I might have to go back to physio as it should really have healed by now, but I’m going to see if I can do 4-6K steps this week and see how i feel. Ut sucks but interestingly I’ve lost weight faster since my injury first occurred back in May, than before when I was exercising rigorously.

I think the lack of exercise has either lowered my appetite or made me more conscious about the calories I take in because I’m not sub-consciously deluding myself by thinking I can burn it off by going for a run or whatever.

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 07/01/2025 09:38

Morning everyone happy Tuesday. How are you all getting on?
I've had a migraine for a few days now so not been up to much except work. Dry January is going well I've not thought about having any alcohol tbh. I've done no exercise and my diet could be better. I've dug out my old slimming world books and going to give it a try for a few weeks and see how I get on with it. According to the scales I've lost a few Christmas pounds, will see what they say on Thursday my official weight day.

Meal ideas for this week
Paella
Baked potatoes
Smoked salmon
Tandoori chicken
Egg mayo salad
Not sure what else. Going to make a pot of leek and potato soup for lunches. Snacks are crudets, fruit, Greek yoghurt and quavers.

@Loseit2025 hope you are ok and on the mend soon. Sounds like a bad injury you have.

@WatermelonSalad1 did you make a stew? I know what you mean about the cold weather making you more hungry.

@happytobemrsg I've tried homemade popcorn but think I went wrong somewhere as without any toppings it was dry and a bit like cardboard.

Hello! Finally weighed this morning and I've gained the 4 pounds I lost before Xmas! But hey ho.

I had a couple of drinks on Saturday night but felt really low and shit on Sunday so it's convinced me to stop drinking for a while anyway. Diet not great. Trying to up my veg intake rather than reduce cheese! My double Pilates starts this week. Other than that I have a busy, annoying week at work which will eat into my weekend so feeling annoyed in advance about that.

I'm also aiming to moisturise my body daily! I find it helps with eating a bit better and makes me a bit kinder to my body.

Onwards!

Loseit2025 · 07/01/2025 10:50

I’m back down 2 pounds so back to my mid-December weight of 10 stone 5. Have been eating two meals a day for the last few days. Hope I can head steadily down towards 10 stone this month. I don’t want to plateau where I keep losing and gaining the same 2 pounds on repeat.

I had a terrible sleep last night so of course I’m now fighting all kinds of hunger cravings. Sleep has such a big impact on my diet. Going to drink some coffee so I can try hold out to 12noon before meal one.

Thanks @Thewhisperingwindsofwinter It’s a weird one, it didn’t feel like a serious injury initially. I did it when I was doing daily walking exercise videos at home so not exactly anything super strenuous or intense. initially it was that sore that I was limping and would be in agony if I ran. Now I don’t limp and it’s not too sore after a short run- so it’s improved to more of a dull pain that’s often there especially when I put pressure on my leg.

Migraine are awful. Hope you’re feeling better now. Your meal ideas sound great, especially tandoori chicken - haven’t had that for ages.

Well done on dry January!

dododahdahdahdoo · 08/01/2025 08:55

For a week now I've been to a lot of gym classes, I've worked out at home, I've been to the gym, I've eaten lots of lean protein salad & veg. I've drank so much water. No booze. I've had a little chocolate as in singly wrapped cadburys squares from a multi tin. No crisps/dairy/junk/cakes/bread/takeaways/booze/ice cream/fizzy drinks.

AND I HAVE LOST ABSOLOUTLEY NOTHING. I have put on half a lb. I am now resorting to eating very little and some days no food. Maybe OMAD.

This is beyond demoralising.

Loseit2025 · 08/01/2025 09:36

@dododahdahdahdoo well done on the healthy eating. Your body will thank you for jt in the long term.

It could be that you’ve lost fat but gained in muscle. I’d scale back on all the exercise so you’re doing less and continue eating the same healthy food but consume a bit less of it.

I was exercising so much last year from January-April and I put on 5 pounds 🤦🏽‍♀️ from May to July I wasn’t able to exercise at all and lost about 9 pounds.

It’s weird because when I lost weight in my early 20s I’m pretty sure the gym was a big part of it, but either I overestimated it’s role at the time or maybe the needs of my body changed as I aged.

SpringleDingle · 08/01/2025 13:47

Hey all, I have a good bit to lost in 2025 following a steady 2 year gain. I was 81kg on 1 Jan and I need to be down to 64kg. I'm 47, peri-menopasual and on HRT. My joints ache, I have a frozen shoulder, my reflux is terrible and my snoring is sending my DP to sleep on the sofa so it is time. We've also agreed to wed in 1Q 2026 so I'd like to be slim and healthy for then!
I've lost 2kg since 01 Jan 2025 using Parrot-Pal (tracking app). Am making good healthy choices to control calories and eat plenty of protein. I am also trying to keep my daily steps up (target is 7000 but I am trying to hit 8000). I joined a local gym and we have our induction on Thursday (me and DP!) and we are going swimming this evening (this is our normal Wednesday practice anyway).

My lunches are all about the fish. Today was half a roast buttnernut squash with a can of tuna and mayo. Was delicious.

Loseit2025 · 09/01/2025 09:21

Today I’ve managed to just about sneak into the 10 stone 4 range. It’s showing 10 stone 4.9 on the digital scale but hey 10stone 4 is still ten stone 4 😆

So close but yet so far to getting back into the 9 stone bracket which I haven’t been since 2016.

My period is due and I always put on about 3 pounds then. Partly due to bloating but partly due to succumbing to sugar cravings. It takes about a week for it to go back down,

I’d be more than happy to end this month on 10stone 2 which is doable if I can lose another couple of pounds in the two weeks after my period.

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 09/01/2025 16:28

Starting January weight was 12 stone 11
Weight today is 12 stone 7
That's me lost my Christmas/New Year 4 pounds that I put on. Finding slimming world really good so far. Aiming for 1 pound off for next week. Still done no exercise as not feeling great and weather is rubbish with snow. Still going strong with DJ.

@forgivingfiggy 4 pounds will come off quickly. Have you managed to cut out the booze? I absolutely love cheese too.

@Loseit2025 hope your sleep is better now. Have you seen the Dr about your leg? Hope its on the mend now. I know what you mean by losing and gaining the same pound also trying to avoid that. Congratulations on the 10 St 4 a win is definitely a win!

@dododahdahdahdoo sorry to read that it's absolutely awful when you give it everything to get nothing back. Are you losing inches? Could it be water weight?

Sorry Springle its not letting me tag you. Congratulations on your wedding how exciting. Sounds like you have a good plan in place.

OP posts:
Loseit2025 · 09/01/2025 17:05

@Thewhisperingwindsofwinter That’s a great re-start to your weight loss journey. It’s nice when the effort shows on the scales.

Are you just doing slimming world recipes or going to their weekly meetings?

Thanks for asking but nah no change with my leg 🤨I’ll give it while longer before I go to the GP and they might refer me back to physio.

I’m shattered today but managed not to binge so far.I think the lack of exercise caused by my injury is contributing to my lack of sleep unfortunately.

I’m running low on stuff, but my Ocado delivery is due tomorrow night. Just ate a chicken burger made from frozen breaded chicken and a brioche bun. I’ll have pasta with a sprinkling of cheese tonight. Heavy on the carbs 😆

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 09/01/2025 21:47

@Loseit2025 carbs are so addictive 🤣
Thank you it was a lovely surprise to see the scales moving down today. I am just doing the slimming world books at home and using this group for accountability. I usually cook from scratch and I am good with eating fruit and veg so slimming world works well for me. I like how it has no counting or weighing and some syns to use each day for crisps etc. Still trying to get my head around it but hopefully all will go well. Aww you aren't getting any rest with your leg how annoying for you. Seeing the Dr and physio might be best. I could have went a G&T tonight but resisted determined to get to the end of January.

OP posts:
Loseit2025 · 10/01/2025 09:44

@Thewhisperingwindsofwinter SW does work really well for some people especially if like you, they enjoy cooking from scratch. I think a lot of this is about finding what works for you and sticking to it. But weight aside cooking from scratch is always a good idea health wise.

A close friend of mine lost 4 stone from SW and is nearly at target weight. She goes to their meetings now, but we both signed up for a 3 months online SW subscription during the pandemic. I probably didn’t really follow it the way she did but it helped me lose a few pounds and I learnt some recipes!
She does seem to gain and lose several pounds in quite a short space of time though, I don’t know if that’s a SW thing or just her body type. I lose and gain weight fairly slowly.

I’m 10st 4.1 so yeah I’m firmly in 10st 4 camp now! 🥳 It seems that two high volume low calories meals a day and plenty of water and tea is the way to go for me. I’m fortunate that I don’t really have to cut anything out like bread or pasta or white rice, I’ve just reduced my portions.

My waist is 29 inches so I’ve lost around 1.5 inches since December. I don’t have a clear goal for my waist now that I’m within the healthy range for my height, but I’d like to get to 26-28 inches. I was 38.5 inches in 2022 so I’m super pleased at the progress I’ve made overall.

I have a writing project to finish this weekend so that’ll keep me busy instead of nipping out to buy cookies although this icy slushy weather really doesn’t encourage me to leave my house anyway!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

forgivingfiggy · 11/01/2025 00:12

@whisperingwindsofwinter Ah we are roughly the same weight. I think I was 12.11 on Tuesday. Yes, off the booze for about a week now. I think my snacks have been slightly better. I'll maybe weigh on Tuesday.

Well done on your great start!

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 11/01/2025 13:51

@Loseit2025 I've seen people do really well on SW like you say though it's what works for each person. 4 stone is amazing your friend must notice a big difference in how they feel. I've not looked into SW recipes yet good to hear they have good ones. You are very lucky that you can eat bread pasta etc. I just look at these foods and bloat up. The last time I had a 29 inch waist they were still building the millennium dome 🤣 you are doing so well, lots of luck with your writing this weekend and have a fantastic weekend Grin

@forgivingfiggy thank you. Are you noticing the benefits of no booze? I was in the mood for a gin and tonic the other night but resisted and done a crossword. Lots of luck for Tuesday if you do weight yourself. I am wondering if we will drop weight quickly at first because we are in the 12 stone area.

Just think everyone by the time Spring arrives we will all be much slimmer and more importantly healthier.

OP posts:
Loseit2025 · 12/01/2025 11:28

Yeah I’m sure she’s feeling great and judging from her recent holiday pics she certainly looks great. I watch SW recipes on YouTube - quite a lot of their members post about their journeys. Some of the recipes are not for me but yeah they do have some good ones.

thank you! I started off just under 13 stone and it’s been a slog but glad I kept going. Tbf the weight may have come off a lot faster if I’d cut out rice/pasta/bread, but that wasn’t sustainable for me. So yeah again it comes back to doing what works for you.
Aaah the building of the millennial dome - memories of the good old days lol

I’ve started my period accompanied by the usual delightful cramps but also finished most of my writing project 🥳, so I will definitely be eating cake to both celebrate and ease my pain.

I went from 10st 4 on Friday to 10st 8 today but I didn’t even flinch as I weigh myself almost daily and know my weight always goes up a few pounds while I’m on my period!

Yes indeed, roll on slimmer, healthier and happier versions of ourselves for Spring!
