Human Being Diet Reset 2025 - HBD Reset 2025

I’ve had a lot of success with HBD but have really gone off the rails with a holiday and then Christmas. I’m planning to start a reset on 7th Jan - anyone else planning the same? X

Hi, amazing results on here, well done everyone!
I am on day 1 phase 2 and really do not want to repeat phase 1!!
I have struggled today to get my 3 meals in with 5 hours between, does anyone else have this problem and what do you do?
I am thinking I'll just miss the last meal as it would mean eating at 10pm which I think is probably worse?

There are work days when I make sure I finish breakfast before 7am because I know I’ll have lunch at midday… that early food is difficult for me, but I don’t want to jeopardise my results… and then I also have to make a packed lunch before I leave.
sometimes I only get to eat close to 9pm so I might leave the eggs for that meal… there does seem to be a bit of juggling with timings for me actually.
I’m sure if you listen to your intuition and don’t miss meals if you can help it, you’ll be fine.

HelenHywater · 04/02/2025 06:12

I have my first meal early (am eating it now) as I want to have coffee when I wake up. Will have next meal at 1ish and last one at 7. I am fine with the 5 hours in the morning as I did Intermittent Fasting for years but do get hungry in the afternoon.

Lalanoodle · 04/02/2025 22:54

Great advice thank you, for some reason I had never thought of having eggs as the last meal! I did this today though and it worked well as I really couldn't be bothered cooking tonight!

I had stewed apple with seeds at 7.30am this morning which was surprisingly nice as I'm not a breakfast person!

HelenHywater · 08/02/2025 07:56

1lb off for me in the first week of P3. I'm happy with that as I had a lot of social events this week that involved wine. Will be less alcohol focused next week.

I tried to reintroduce dairy but it really made me feel ill, so I won't do that again! My treat meal tonight.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Lalanoodle · 08/02/2025 09:04

Well done @HelenHywater what is your total weight loss now? The wine must have been nice after phase 1 and 2! Are you finding phase 3 easier?

I didn't want to weigh in until end of P2 but it is TOTM and I knew I would struggle with the plan so weighed to see if I had lost any weight to keep me going, was shocked to see I've lost 9.4lb in 6 days!!

It did encourage me to stick with it but I couldn't finish the veg with my last meal so I'm going to try and make some soup today from the receipe book.

HelenHywater · 08/02/2025 09:14

That's amazing @Lalanoodle ! Well done. I don't think I've struggled to eat veg through this (although I hated the soup in P1). I'm thinking I'm going to have to cut the fruit out though as it just makes me crave sugar more. (I must try the tapping technique linked to upthread).

I've lost around 4.5 kg since I started this. (I think that's around half a stone). I'm happy with that - I was already technically in an ok BMI but just heavier through perimenopause than I wanted to be.

OakAshandThorn · 08/02/2025 15:05

I started on 1st Feb, so day 6 of phase 2 today. I felt unbearably hungry today, but I googled it and watched a brief Petronella video on YouTube that made me feel better. She said that she's noticed that many people find days 7-9 of the diet the hardest, and says that's because our bodies haven't quite made the shift to burning fat for fuel. I'm going to max out my avo measure with each meal and cut back on the blueberries (which I only added in yesterday!!), and I'm hoping this will speed it up! I'm desperate not to be so hungry!! All I can think about is food... 😭🤣
I do feel much better though - no ibs (except after eating butternut squash on 3 occasions, so that's obviously a trigger for for me), my perimenopausal skin is clearer, and I'm definitely thinner!!
It's been great to read everyone's posts on this thread 😁

Lalanoodle · 09/02/2025 12:35

@HelenHywater that's amazing to lose so much when you are already a healthy bmi!

@OakAshandThorn I also started on 1st Feb and felt awful yesterday, like I couldn't even climb the stairs! Stuck with it but included strawberries after my lunch which seemed to help and a lot better today!

OakAshandThorn · 09/02/2025 12:41

@Lalanoodle I also feel a bit better today, though still ridiculously hungry. And my thighs are aching like I climbed some steep hills! I was eating a high carb diet before this though, and I especially over indulged on sweet stuff in January, knowing I wouldn't be eating it for a few weeks!! I expect this is the payback... 😭🤣

HelenHywater · 09/02/2025 15:11

That's really interesting @OakAshandThorn I had to restart P2 after I had a massive lapse on about day 7 or 8. I found it much easier the second time

OakAshandThorn · 09/02/2025 15:45

@HelenHywater omg, i am in awe!! The only thing that's stopping me from breaking the diet is knowing that there's absolutely no way I could start this phase again!! I'll be half way through Phase 2 by the morning. At the moment, I'm so desperate for calories that I feel like I could drink my P3 olive oil meal allowance in a shot glass... Mmmmmm!! 🤣🤣

Lalanoodle · 09/02/2025 17:34

Ha ha, I feel exactly the same, I'm not doing those Epsom salts again. I keep thinking I'm over half way now....the treat meal next Monday is in sight!

It says in the book most people wait until the next weekend for their treat meal! I'm already reading menus picking my meal 🤣

UnimaginableWindBird · 14/02/2025 20:09

Hello. A friend's just recommended this and I bought the book and will be giving it a go. I have a long weekend coming up in 2 weeks, so I'll start them, but I think in three meantime I'll start gradually changing my habits a bit so the first couple of weeks don't feel quite so bad.

Lalanoodle · 16/02/2025 09:50

@OakAshandThorn last day of phase 2 today 🙌 how are you getting on?

@UnimaginableWindBird I admire you! I think I ate worse than ever before starting this as I knew I would have to cut out everything!

OakAshandThorn · 16/02/2025 10:34

@lalanoodle I stopped doing it on day 11. It made me really ill. At first I thought I was just struggling with the calorie deficit, but I soon realised that I've had silent reflux for years, and this diet is soooooo acidic that it exacerbated it massively. All that ACV! 😔🤣 I also think the rapid weight loss in the first 5 days caused gall stones, as I've had steatorohha since day 11 too.
I guess the diet just isn't good for my system, which is a shame, because I was so excited about doing it! But, I'm really grateful to it for showing me that I had silent reflux, as I thought it was allergy symptoms all this time. I honestly thought that I must have been allergic to so many of the foods in the first 11 days - it's actually a relief to know that it's just that they were too acidic for me!
Anyway, I'm getting ready to start the Acid Watcher diet instead, which will hopefully finally get rid of my chronic post nasal drip and sore throat 🤞
Well done for getting through Phase 2!! I bet that olive oil will taste amazing in the morning!!

UnimaginableWindBird · 16/02/2025 15:27

I entered a variety of phase 3 meals into nutracheck, and the fibre levels were really low, so I don't think it's something I could stay on long or even medium term, so I'm going to hack it for my own purposes, which will probably result in slower weight loss but will presumably also mean better gut health. I'll keep to the same protein servings, but increase my servings of fibre-rich veg, and have a bit less oil. I'll do 2 weeks without dairy, wheat and nightshades, and then try reintroducing them.

Lalanoodle · 16/02/2025 16:25

@OakAshandThorn your update is interesting as I also had to stop the ACV due to reflux (I only started using it a few days ago so was easy to pinpoint what was causing it) and I've also had symptoms of steatorrhea when I googled what it was when I read your post! I'm wondering if mine is caused by eating avocado every day and it's been such a sudden change in diet?
However, in myself, I feel well, I feel like I have more energy and my sugar and crisp cravings have gone!

@UnimaginableWindBird i am also on the Zoe app and it has been telling me that my fibre is too low, it also said I only had 19 different vegetables last week and it should be 30!!! I was probably only having about 3 types a week before this so 19 is outstanding for me 🤣

OakAshandThorn · 16/02/2025 19:38

@UnimaginableWindBird my plan is to hack it too! I'm gonna do the 2 day veg prep again, then straight into phase 3, but with banana instead of apple (too acidic) and only 4 hours between each meal (any longer creates excess stomach acid, plus I end up eating my last meal too late). I need to lose the weight more slowly, and my weight loss stalled from day 5 last time anyway, I think because my body was inflamed from all the acidic foods! I just need to make sure I write it up so I don't get tempted to cheat!

HelenHywater · 16/02/2025 21:01

Sorry to hear that you've been finding it hard @UnimaginableWindBird and @OakAshandThorn . I'm also having quite a tough time. My gut issues (and insomnia) have resurfaced, possibly from reintroducing foods too quickly in P3 and possibly from being too free and easy with the treat meals. (which have become treat days really...) I'm also finding the apple is just feeding my sugar addiction. I actually felt really well on phase 2 - full of energy and my sleep was fantastic and so was my IBs (I didn't eat any of the night shade veg). I read about a Phase 2 with Oil thing that some HBD-ers do. So I might try that And leave the apple out.

girluwant2 · 24/02/2025 12:30

Gosh…sorry you ladies are not having an easy time… I never did the ACV even though I have it in the cupboard, as it wasn’t mandatory.
I’m doing really well with steady inch loss, eating a good variety of protein and veg… not bothered about fruit (I’ve never been much of a fruit person) and my body is running well…
… although the heartbreak was real this weekend just gone when I had to sort out which clothes are too big now.. some of my favourite items are sat in a large pile to be sold!

I feel there’s no point buying more clothes until I’ve lost all the weight, unless I get desperate - like today I had to buy one bra to see me through the next few weeks, and I have one pair of jeans left that fit properly.
I know some of my friends have said it’s a nice problem to have… but I hadn’t thought much about it until now.

Justhere65 · 24/02/2025 20:51

I got through phase 1 and 2, losing 9lbs which is a miracle for me post menopause.

I haven’t been taking the ACV at all as too acidic for me. I felt great too but have lost my way over the last week. But what is interesting is I have only gained 2lbs. Every other diet I have tried over years, as soon as I relapse all the weight piles back on quickly.
Tomorrow I am back on it!

HelenHywater · 25/02/2025 07:23

I've also relapsed in phase 3. I put on just under a kilo, so not too bad. I'm finding it really challenging to get back onto it though!

HelenHywater · 25/02/2025 07:24

Is ACV meant to help with cravings? How do you take it if that's what you want it for?

OakAshandThorn · 25/02/2025 08:38

@HelenHywater I've never heard of acv helping with cravings. The amino acid L-Glutamine is great for cravings (and also for healing leaky gut). It wouldn't be HBD, as you'd technically be breaking your fast, but better than breaking it with food?! You could find out more about it on Trudy Scott's website: everywomanover29.
The other thing is suggest is not eating any starchy carbs, even with your treat meal. You could Google keto fat bombs to raise calories for your treat meal. The only time I've ever been free of cravings has been doing strict keto, but that's not sustainable for me long term.
I'm starting my reflux-friendly version of hbd tomorrow, with a 3 day vegetable fast, then going straight into a modified phase 3. I think the vegetable fast is such a great reset - would it help you to get back into phase 3 again?

HelenHywater · 25/02/2025 08:48

The vegetable fast made me feel really ill. It triggered my IBS no end. I think possibly the butternut squash, but I'm not sure.

Thank you for this though - I think you may be right on the starchy carbs point - once I start I can't stop. Today I have had a greek yoghurt breakfast but I think the dairy disagrees with me! (I ordered coconut yoghurt through my online shop thinking it would be coconut milk, but it wasn't - it was yoghurt with added coconut and sugar, so I couldn't eat it).

I have found phase 3 doesn't work for me because once I start on the treats, I don't stop! Even having one apple is too much for my sweet tooth. So I think you're onto something and maybe my phase 3 treat meals need to be fat based, not carb based.

Back on it today!
