Preparing for 2025 glow up!

Hope this is a suitable place to post this..do move it if not.
I know we've not even had our indulgent christmas and new year yet.. but I'm so looking forward to a 2025 reset!
My main goal (as usual,) will be to lose a bit of weight.
But, beyond that, I really want to take control of making myself feel good.
Weight loss is part of it for me..
But I also just want to have better nutrition and develop some better habits for skincare and fashion etc
I'd also like to do some small things that will improve how I feel overall.. read more, make more time for hobbies, cut back on alcohol and processed crap, meditate/pray more, clear out the house a bit, be better financially...
Loads of things to focus on really.
For now, I'm not going to get worried about the weight loss.. that can wait until new year, but I am going to really increase my water and fruit/veg intake. I go through phases where I'm brilliant at this- and I really do notice it makes me feel better- I think it's all about developing habits and keeping them!
Anybody feel like joinging me on my quest to be feeling fab next year?

I will join you as I want to do a lot of those things too. I would advise not to try it all at once though, it's overwhelming and too much in one go. I read on here the other day that January is a good time to cut back rather than add more things. So maybe use January to cut out one thing (booze perhaps) and maybe have a bit of a declutter. Then by the time feb rolls around you'll already be feeling better and more able to take on new challenges. It makes a lot of sense and it's how I'm planning on approaching it.

Weight loss is another big one for me plus exercise and general self care. I've let myself go a lot over the last few years and it's very visible in my face and body.

snowlady4 · 16/12/2024 22:28

Oh good.. someone is joining me! I agree.. too much all at once.
So I'll start with the big one.. weight loss.. and go from there.
I have had success with calorie counting and just really enjoy eating a large amount of fruit and veg so that will be my start point.
I must try to dig out my fit bit for January..
I've also just ordered Chris van Tullekens book on ultra processed food which looks like it might be interesting. (50%off on amazon too.)

I'm definitely in for this! I'm planning to do a whole 30 in January (it's an old programme now but they relaunched it in 2024 with some new variations) - it's super strict but if makes me feel amazing and I actually do better on a strict plan than if I have to moderate. I've lost and gained around a stone this year, I feel really frumpy, huge round my middle and my hips/thighs and I'm just sick of it. I exercise loads and I really can be focussed on a diet, but I lose weight so so slowly now that even one 'day off' undoes a week or two of hard work. So a really strict reset in January for me!

I also need a glow up. I have no nice clothes but I have absolutely tonnes of clothes. Nothing fits properly, I have maybe 1 or 2 outfits that I like and I feel nice in. I need to stop buying stuff on vinted. I work from home and live in dog walking clothes, running gear and then warm layers for working in. Even my workout gear is all mismatched and tatty looking now.

So yes, count me in!

2025willbemytime · 18/12/2024 21:19

I'll definitely join you.

I want to lose weight. About 1-1.5 stone.

I've been reading more and not coming on here in the day but I've gone back and I felt better before.

I have been doing better with skincare as I have a lot of products and sat in a box they do nothing. I need to learn to do better with nails as I love having them painted. I use my hands differently and I like it.

I walk every day and run several times a week.

I have been doing intermittent fasting but fail 3 times a week.

snowlady4 · 18/12/2024 21:22

@thenewaveragebear1983
Welcome!
Oh I haven't heard of the whole 30, must look it up. Like you, I am better when I'm really ON a plan- I'm a bit all or nothing!
I used to be relatively fashionable and now I feel like a frump too... so ready for a glow up!
2025 is the year! I feel it!

I started rereading my whole 30 book last night in preparation!
My other glow up goals are:

  • keep on top of my roots as my hair is basically white now
  • wear makeup and remember to take it off
  • get some nice workout gear in the sales (I exercise a lot but I do it in tatty old stuff because I do outdoor bootcamp)
  • stretch properly with yoga (once a week at first)
  • keep up my vitamins and collagen supplements.
  • put 90% of my clothes on vinted and work on the chic capsule wardrobe I've been promising myself all these years

I'm running London marathon in April so I will be doing a lot of running but my nutrition needs to be sorted as well.

ShilIing · 19/12/2024 20:03

I’ve done this.

I started in August 2023 and was going to say I look like a different person (and have had people I know pass me on the street and then do a double-take), but I think I look like a nicer version of myself, and I feel happier and more confident.

My first tip- have money! It’s been expensive.

Here’s what I did/am doing-

Lost a significant amount of weight (6 dress sizes).

Very low sugar, quite low carb diet with lots of veg and a focus on protein.

Laser hair removal for chin and upper lip.

Hair cut and colour every four weeks (my hair grows fast and I have so much grey!).

Keratin treatment every 10-ish weeks.

Tailored facial every six weeks at a really good clinic.

RF micro needling x 2 courses (so every month for three months, then a break for a few months, and back at it again now- love it).

Really good skincare products- the clinic I go to specialises in skincare rather than cosmetic treatments so I stick religiously to the plan they’ve set for me and I don’t use any other products (I used to be a sucker for a nice beauty box/advent calendar). This includes use of Retinol for which I’ve had to build up tolerance.

MD Laser treatment (doing courses of this when I’m not doing the micro needling)

Micro needling roller used three times a week at home.

Brows threads and tinted every 5-6 weeks.

Lash lift and tint every 3-4 months.

A really great lash serum nightly (The Ordinary multi-peptide lash and brow serum- amazing stuff).

Botox (for those “11” lines between my eyebrows and crows feet) every 4-6 months.

Teeth whitening at a clinic with strips used at home for top-ups.

BIAB manicure every three weeks.

2l of water a day.

Iron tabs (I’m anemic), vit D, magnesium, fish oils, and a turmeric supplement daily.

For 2025, I’m going to keep this up but I want to focus on my hair. It’s thinned quite a bit due to weight loss and a health issue so I’m going to see a trichologist who does a range of scalp treatments so see if that helps. I’m fully prepared to hear that the Keratin and colour treatments aren’t helping but will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Mouldyoldtart · 19/12/2024 20:32

I'm in! I've been threatening myself with an overhaul for months, but life always gets in the way. January is a good time to start. My goals are;

Lose half a stone at least
Eat way more fruit and veg
Yoga daily
More reading, less scrolling
Look nicer, clothes, hair etc
Walk more

unicornsandchocolate · 19/12/2024 21:19

I'm in! I desperately need a glow up. I really feel I have lost myself recently. I am the heaviest I have ever been and just don't feel good in any of my clothes....and I love clothes!

  • I need to lose 20lbs. If I do this if will be wonderful and I think I'll feel so much better in myself.
  • I also want to make sure my hair is styled every day and not just left down and frizzy or pulled into a messy ponytail.
  • I am going to plan my outfits the night before too.
I am sure there is more I could do, but will start with these!
Cece92 · 19/12/2024 21:22

Hello 👋 I'd love to join too. I'd love to lose weight as someone with PCOS I've tried loads of diets but calorie counting, and having 1 cheat day worked for me previously. I wanna look after myself. I had a health scare recently and it has given me a kick up the butt. I've stopped smoking this year and just want to look after myself more. Xx

loveyouradvice · 20/12/2024 10:47

I love the idea of a 2025 glow up! I'm definitely on and have bought a few new clothes this Christmas having lost most of the weight I want to - and I've just bought my first strapless bra ever!! A great feeling for a curvy woman.

So my goals echo many of the above, and particularly strengthening and toning my body, and building in some balance exercises on a regular basis. .

Webbb · 20/12/2024 16:52

I'm in :) have lots of good things I've started this year that I'd like to really build on and commit to.

2025willbemytime · 20/12/2024 17:06

I'm trying not to think I've failed already but not going for a run today. Ive run six times in 12 days but today I was so tired.

snowlady4 · 21/12/2024 11:02

Oh great.. we have quite the glow up crew on board now! Gosh we're all going to be fabulous!

OP posts:
snowlady4 · 21/12/2024 11:13

@ShilIing wow you sound like you're done incredible things.. 6 stone weight loss is a massive amount.
My glow up won't involve as much cost as you've endured though! You can't spend what you don't have for a start!- all a personal thing, but I don't think spending such a fortune is absolutely necessary. For some, a few pounds off, a decent haircut, new jeans and a bit of mascara will make all the difference. We all have different goals/boundaries/targets/whatever!

Sunflowers098 · 22/12/2024 19:29

I love the idea of a glow up! True Bridgerton style!!
Some great ideas on this thread.
I've started my weight loss journey already but still need to shift 2 stone.
I'm definitely going to do dry January.
I think maybe I'll pick 2 other things In January to focus on. Then add 2 more in February. Etc..

Ihaveaskedyouthrice · 22/12/2024 22:19

Oh I'm definitely on for this. I'm so sick of how I look(and feel). Have a bulging disc which has just had a massive flare up so need to really work on losing weight and building core strength. Aims for this year

  • Lose 2 stone
  • Focus on stomach toning. Every pound I gain goes straight to my stomach.
  • Core strengthening.
  • Walk 10000 steps every day. And I literally mean every day.
  • Wardrobe overhaul. I mainly live in leggings and hoodies which is fine, that suits my lifestyle but I want some nicer stuff for evenings/nights out.
  • Makeup overhaul. Am doing my makeup the same way for 25 years!
  • Drink more water. Am so bad at this!!
  • Pampering. I want to set aside one night a week for nails, body cream, face mask etc.
2025willbemytime · 22/12/2024 22:22

@Ihaveaskedyouthrice 10000 is an arbitrary number and more than is necessary. Scientifically proven.

Confused228 · 22/12/2024 22:25

Would love to join please. Want to lose about 2 stone at least (no idea what diet to try yet) drink more water, eat more vegetables and exercise more. Would love to feel better about myself.

loveyouradvice · 23/12/2024 10:03

I'm cheering us all on - 2025 is going to get off to a great start with all of you`!!

StreathamLocal2023 · 24/12/2024 00:15

I hope it’s ok if I can also join? I would like to get into a lot of good habits and try and focus on myself and build more confidence and feel better about myself.

My current goals for this year:

  • lose at least 3 stone
  • go to the gym/exercise at least 3x a week
  • generally just eat healthier meals at home/meal prep rather than have lots of take always or eat out at lunch!
  • Pamper myself a bit more! Eg bubble baths, nice hair cuts, better skincare routine

Good luck everyone ☺️ We deserve to feel our best!
