Hope this is a suitable place to post this..do move it if not.
I know we've not even had our indulgent christmas and new year yet.. but I'm so looking forward to a 2025 reset!
My main goal (as usual,) will be to lose a bit of weight.
But, beyond that, I really want to take control of making myself feel good.
Weight loss is part of it for me..
But I also just want to have better nutrition and develop some better habits for skincare and fashion etc
I'd also like to do some small things that will improve how I feel overall.. read more, make more time for hobbies, cut back on alcohol and processed crap, meditate/pray more, clear out the house a bit, be better financially...
Loads of things to focus on really.
For now, I'm not going to get worried about the weight loss.. that can wait until new year, but I am going to really increase my water and fruit/veg intake. I go through phases where I'm brilliant at this- and I really do notice it makes me feel better- I think it's all about developing habits and keeping them!
Anybody feel like joinging me on my quest to be feeling fab next year?

I'm in please. I have cancer treatment starting in Feb. I need to be on a special diet to make the treatment as effective as possible. This means no butter/eggs/fish/curry. I'm starting 1 Jan.i technically don't need to start the special diet until late Jan but I'm starting as I mean to go on and I'm also excluding alcohol, sugar, carbs, crap & msg to help me be in the best shape possible for treatment. I'm actually sick of sugar, crap and alcohol and we've not even got to Xmas day yet !
I need to lose 1.5 - 2 stone. Totally fed up of being fed up of being over weight.
I've come to bed to tonight after a turn of ibs while on the loo. That was the pasta I had for dinner. I know I shouldn't eat it.

Roundrobinup · 24/12/2024 01:45

I'm also having a glow up top.i have a load of shit in my wardrobe and a £1.2k store card bill for clothes but only 2 things I really like in my wardrobe. I'm working hard to clear the bill in 2025 and work on my appearance

2025willbemytime · 24/12/2024 06:37

I hope your treatment goes well @Roundrobinup .

i also paid for eating something I should t yesterday and the day before, intolerance rather than IBS I think and hopefully I'll be okay today.

Hello All, a rather nervous Glow Up newbie here.

@Ihaveaskedyouthrice your goals are similar to mine. I’m going to start with sugar free January. I aim for at least 12k steps a day, 6 days a week. Too much research saying it’s the best form of exercise for me to ignore 😊

@Roundrobinup im sending you lots of positive wishes for your treatment. I’m awaiting some early exploratory scans and biopsies. Whilst no news is good news I think I’m playing with fire every time I eat or drink UPF, sugar etc. I would love to join you for some accountability.

I’m pretty poor when it comes to makeup (don’t wear it) or clothes (live in jeans and jumpers). I sit next to an absolutely gorgeous ex-hairdresser at work and am starting to wonder if I should at least consider my style. Or having a style. 🤔

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 24/12/2024 17:48

I would love to join too. I had a little one 19 months ago and feel like I've really lost myself - my exercise, hobbies, sexuality, the lot!

My aims will be to:
Eat more healthily, more fruit and veggies etc
Exercise more frequently
Get a haircut semi regularly
Do some hobbies in the evenings instead of tv

TheDogdidGood · 25/12/2024 21:15

Can I join in too please?

My goals are -

Lose a stone, or get to size 12
Learn to improvise blues piano
Spend more time reading
Spend less time wasting time on the internet - scrolling, games, sudoku, octordle...
Keep in better touch with my friends and answer emails!
Get a housework routine that works

I've been working on a morning routine over the last few months, of writing in m diary before I look at the computer, and reading some Stoic literature - I need to add exercise to that

Thehungrysocialworker · 26/12/2024 13:24

This sounds perfect! I want to try and add some healthy habits in. I have all the usual weight loss and exercise goals but I really want to build in healthy habits for my glow up!

Habit goals:
Drink 2litres of water a day
Hair mask once a week and get regular hair cuts (it's been awhile)
Skincare routine before bed
Plan my outfits a day ahead
Exercise for 30 mins a day

loveyouradvice · 26/12/2024 18:04

Great habits @Thehungrysocialworker ... I love the idea of habit goals and will be joining you on those!

Elle771 · 27/12/2024 06:47

Joining this! As apart from some serious weight loss I need an overhaul of ALL my self care... 2 yrs post partum and barely recognise myself!!!

StreathamLocal2023 · 27/12/2024 12:27

Lovely seeing what everyone’s goals are and the reasons behind them. Can’t wait to see how we get on, and how all our new habits will make us feel!

Just wondered if anyone has made a start ahead of the new year? I’ve only gone as far as book appointments for the hairdresser, dentist and bought some nice loungewear.

My preparation has been to eat so much crap over Christmas that I'm actually craving healthy food and exercise! Good idea to make some self-care appointments

Twopintsprick81 · 28/12/2024 11:09

Another one wanting to join the glow up crew😂
My goals are:
-lose about a stone doing low-ish carb as I have a terrible sugar addiction and this is the only way of eating that doesn't make me want to binge
-start doing caroline girvan work puts again 3/4 times a week
-be more consistent with my skincare regime
-remember to take my vitamin supplements every day
-cut waaaay back on alcohol and energy drinks. Currently drink about 1.5 litres of energy drink a day..I'm a cardiac arrest waiting to happen
-sort out my wardrobe by binning all the things I don't love/never wear and buying some nice stuff for every day wear as I currently walk around looking like a bag lady

I like the strategy that someone else came up with of starting small and adding in another goal or two every month. Consistency is definitely key!!

Twopintsprick81 · 28/12/2024 11:14

Just remembered another two...
-start using the crest whitening strips again
-start using my kegel machine twice a day again. It does help but you really need to keep up with it. I'm back to having to cross my legs every time I sneeze😔

MadameBeauregarde · 28/12/2024 18:03

I’m in!

I turn sixty in 2025 and need to lose between two and three stone. I wfh a lot so it’s been easy to just pull on joggers and t shirts and pretend the weight wasn’t piling on. I have a dreadful sweet tooth.

I live alone but am a good cook, so I tend to make something really yummy, and then eat enough for four adults over two days.

I have so many masks and beauty products that I just don’t use, so I need to get stuck into those. My skin and hair look like absolute shit.

Am waiting for a hip replacement so I am in pain a lot of the time, and can’t do anything too energetic, but I need to strengthen the muscles around the joint so I try to walk as often as I can.

I rarely drink so quitting alcohol is pretty easy for me, and I never smoke. I do need to drink more water.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 28/12/2024 22:03

I'm in too.

I am focusing on improving my diet and losing weight.

Might get some fillers if l can afford it - had it done last year on my marionette lines and was very pleased with the results.

Sunflower07 · 28/12/2024 22:44

I'm in!
I need to lose about 6 stone in total. I'm going to try to set smaller goals to break it down.
I have the ultra processed people book which I'm going to read as I know I need to have a mostly whole food diet in order to stop wanting to comfort eat crap!

I need to be consistent in skin care too. My hair is in ok condition but it usually shoved up in a messy bun.

That sounds like great preparation.

I really want to lose weight by eating a better diet and I know this sounds pathetic but I don't know where to start. I didn't grow up eating vegetables in childhood and now I feel like I don't know how to cook them or what recipes to make. I want to totally overhaul my fridge freezer and batch cook healthy meals I can reheat for when I get in late from work but yeah, don't know where to start!

MadameBeauregarde · 29/12/2024 10:10

@Confused228 a great time of year to make vegetable soup with any leftover veg in your fridge? I am making a bit of an assumption here that you had veg over Christmas.

I am making mine today, and you can make with any combination of the following:

potatoes
sweet potatoes
garlic
onions
leeks
green beans
broccoli
celery
peppers
chilli
carrots
frozen peas
any herbs
other random veg

Just chop it up small and toss it into the biggest saucepan you have. I use an ancient Ainsley Harriet stockpot. If I am feeling cheffy, I will fry off the onions in butter or olive oil first, or add a slug of white wine. Generally though, I just boil it all up in water then add some stock cubes (any will do) until it tastes how you want it to.

Mine looks more like a vegetable stew than a soup, but it keeps in the fridge for a few days and it just feels so WHOLESOME!!

loveyouradvice · 29/12/2024 12:10

What a great team! I'm looking forward to checking in with all of you on 1 Jan!!

Tittyfilarious · 29/12/2024 13:43

May I join please ,i did do a similar thing last year and did well overall but I want to do it again and it would be nice to have some people to share the journey with .

TheDogdidGood · 29/12/2024 19:51

I'm starting today (it's Monday morning in Oz) since my desk diary starts from this week and not the New Year. I set my alarm for half an hour earlier so that I can exercise before work and will re-set my weight loss app which shows that, ins spite of my best efforts (!) I've actually GAINED a pound over the last six months! I will also start using my nice day and night face creams : )

I'm 11 stone 3 and want to be 10 stone or size 12 again, but will put in an interim goal of 10 stone 7lbs as that seems more manageable

Exercise is difficult with a dodgy knee but will use mini cycle and arm weights

2025willbemytime · 29/12/2024 20:44

We had a flood so I no longer have my treadmill. I only go on it when it is too wet to run outside or if can't bare to leave DDog but now it's not an option it's annoying. I've been running since May 2020 and initially lost 1.5 stone hike doing intermittent fastening. Six months prior to this I lost about two stone very quickly. Die to illnesses, broken bones and a very acrimonious divorce my weight has been up and down and I've lost the same stone about three times and my eating has been awful for nearly 1.5 years.

I didn't buy as many treats as normal and the kids haven't eaten any of them! I'm going to just see how I go and if I'd like a treat I'll have one.

I want to look after my nails better as I feel better when they are painted. I also want to do more with my hair.

But health and weight loss is the main focus.

2025willbemytime · 29/12/2024 20:45

@Confused228 when I do soup I like it chunky then after a couple of portions I then blend it so it is smooth. Makes a nice contrast.

socks1107 · 29/12/2024 20:48

I'd like to join I did a thread last year lost two stone. Next two stone to lose this year. Starting tmrw! New year is a ad hoc evening so going with it from tmrw
