Do all the Cambridge diet drinks taste disgusting????

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 28/04/2008 09:54

Started the cambridge diet this morning, trying to get a bit of weight off for my wedding.
I have only had one drink so far and if they all taste that bad I can see how the diet works you don't want to rush to the next meal cause you are still feeling sick from the first one.

I actually cannot believe I am doing this diet cause I just think it is madness on so many levels but hey ho the things we do, but I know I am going to really struggle if they are all horrid. If I am not eating I at least want to enjoy the little that is going into my stomach.

Sorry that should read "have had" 3 CDC's.I havent got 3 at the moment!

oggsfrog · 09/05/2008 10:30

Is anyone else on just sole source?

oggsfrog · 09/05/2008 10:31

Don't think I want to go there with the choc bars. Not a great fan of chocolate anyway and think I'll find it easier not to eat anything at all.

binkleandflip · 09/05/2008 14:25

Yes, my belly is still rumbling off those bars I think

grumpybum · 09/05/2008 16:32

I am on SS and having 2 choc bars a day. to be honest i think i would give up if i had to eat those disgusting soups. i am still in ketosis and losing so am happy! i like having something to chew and the malt toffee one tastes really good.
nursejo - what do you mean 'green & white'?

Nursejo · 09/05/2008 19:51

Apparently its changed since February, you used to have to "step up" to start the maintenence plan, and eat from the list of foods, mainly being a small piece of chicken or fish, with green salad items,or green vegetables (ie. "green and white") but now you can do it as an alternative to sole source, called sole source plus.It bumps the calories up to 800,but still contains virtually no Carbs,so weight loss is still good. Its all in the "yellow book", explains about all the different steps towards maintenence.Your CDC should have the booklet to give you.

Day 3 and I'm still here .
We went out yesterday so I had to have my lunch at 12:30 and I couldn't get my third shake until we got back which was 10pm.
We went to the theatre and my stomach was rumbling very loudly throughout. Had a black coffee afterwards while dh and dd scoffed burgers and chips .

Sneaked a peek at the scales and I'm down 5.75lbs already. (It has given me more motivation, although I know from low carbing that the initial loss is water.)

Not had a shake/soup yet that I find unbearably disgusting.
Shows what a refined crap palate I have

oggsfrog · 10/05/2008 16:46

Gawd, I'm hungry...

grumpybum · 10/05/2008 19:21

had 2 glasses of wine today and about to embark on my third.

worse thing is.. i don't feel the slightest bit guilty

oggsfrog · 10/05/2008 19:31

Ooh....wine.

Butterscotch for breakfast
Oriental Chilli for lunch
Have split a vanilla into three this evening and will have three coffees with vanilla.
Going to get in the bath soon with a book and may not emerge for some hours .

grumpybum · 10/05/2008 19:38

had choc tetra with coffee for breakfast and cranberry bar for lunch. did really well at lunch to resist pub grub veg lasagne but had wine instead. it must be due to the weather. gonna have malt toffee cut up into tiny pieces soon. can't wait!

oggsfrog · 11/05/2008 19:14

Fed up. (not literally, unfortunately)
Just cooked dh and dd two beautiful sirloin steaks, new potatoes and salad. I had half a toffee and walnut mixed into a hot cup of coffee .

grumpybum · 11/05/2008 20:00

don't feel obliged to answer but how often is everyone pooing? i am barely managing once a week although i don't feel bad for it

Nursejo · 11/05/2008 21:12

I'm every 2-3 days, but I guess theres not much "waste" from this diet! Word of warning though,DH has had quite alot of pain and passing blood(tmi,SORRY!)made sure he's drinking 4 litres, but in the end the doc has prescribed something. The Fibre stuff the CDC sells must help this, obviously some people have more of a problem than others.

grumpybum · 11/05/2008 21:23

I have had to take laxis to get anything going. felt really bloated today and wondered if it was cause i had not 'been' for over a week

oggsfrog · 11/05/2008 21:25

Every day at moment but only on day 4 so still clearing out I presume.
I use fybogel as I had problems when low carbing.

juneybean · 11/05/2008 21:30

I really love the taste of the chocolate block milkshakes. I just can't drink water, it's so boring I'm going to start this tomorrow though!

Nursejo · 11/05/2008 21:40

Juneybean, after the 1st week I think you can buy the flavour powder to add to water to make it like squash, just can't have it in the first week though until you are in ketosis. That might help

SpookyMadMummy · 11/05/2008 21:52

Evening ladies
I am back on SS today, started this morning and have managed well. I have over 2 stones to shift
I regained a stone of the weight I lost on CD last year so I am still 2 1/2 stones to the good, but I didn't lose as much as I would have liked so its now my mission to get back on it!
Being a CDC now, its quite hard cos theres no one to kick you up the bum!!

grumpybum · 11/05/2008 22:02

I am sure we will all kick you up the bum on here whenever necessary

SpookyMadMummy · 11/05/2008 22:04

Oooh ta grumpybum!

oggsfrog · 12/05/2008 07:21

Morning, I'm looking for advice.....

At the point when I will have been SS for two weeks I've got a 4 day festival which usually means lots of food/drink.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to abstain from everything.
I understand the ketosis business (former low carber), so I'm thinking maybe to just have some protein/salad and stick to vodka and diet tonic which hopefully wont bring me out of ketosis.
Or I can totally deny myself food and drink (and probably be a pain in the bum to be with )
Any thoughts?
(I suppose I'm not actually looking for advice, more like somebody to either give me permission to cheat, or to tell me in no uncertain terms not to be so stupid as to jeopardise the weight loss )

Nursejo · 12/05/2008 10:42

Oggsfrog, you may find that once you have reached two weeks you are so pleased with your weight loss you wont want to "cheat".The other key point to be aware of when you are in Ketosis,is that supposedly "Citric Acid" takes you out of it(I didn't realise this),so Citric Acid is in alot of things such as some chewing gums, and drinks. Also some salad items I believe. If you consume any extra calories you will start to replace your Glycogen stores, which are used up in your first week, making your weight loss even greater. If this happens,it could mean a weight gain of 7lb+ so I'm told.
As long as you are aware,then you can make an "informed" decision.My advice would be as you say NOT to "jeopardise" your weight loss,as its much,much harder to "start" again.Hope you don't feel I'm preaching,as each day is a struggle for me too,and theres always something coming up that I want to "cheat" for. . . {smile}

Hi Oggsfrog
Its not a good idea to have alcohol while in ketosis. It can make you very ill without some carbs in your system. I would talk to your CDC about being on the 1000 calorie plan while you are away. The reason is, the 1000 plan has some carbohydrates in it.
Have a look on www.minimins.com at the Cambridge Diet forum, theres a sticky thread there explaining the dangers of alcohol and ketosis.
