Do all the Cambridge diet drinks taste disgusting????

Started the cambridge diet this morning, trying to get a bit of weight off for my wedding.
I have only had one drink so far and if they all taste that bad I can see how the diet works you don't want to rush to the next meal cause you are still feeling sick from the first one.

I actually cannot believe I am doing this diet cause I just think it is madness on so many levels but hey ho the things we do, but I know I am going to really struggle if they are all horrid. If I am not eating I at least want to enjoy the little that is going into my stomach.

Thanks NurseJo and SMM
I'll see how I feel closer to the time.
I've looked at that forum but to be honest I'm blinded by all the tickers and keep getting lost in there . Think I've seen you SMM
Prior to CD, I was low carbing for 2 years and have never had any problems drinking whilst in, and remaining in ketosis, but I see your point. I'd rather remain SS than up my intake though, so I'll have to have a think.
I'm down 8.75lbs already but am used to this during the first week. I'm waiting to see how I get on in my second week once all the fluid has gone.

grumpybum · 12/05/2008 21:31

I have just had my weigh in. Week three adn I am pleased to say that I have lost 3.5lb. I really thought I would stay the same again and was questionning whether I could continue cause the guilt of cheating was getting too much.
So I have renewed motivation now.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

Exciting news from my CDC. There is some flavoured water that you can buy from the supermarket that we can drink. The brand name completely escapes me right now but if you said it I would remember. Only Strawberry and Kiwi flavour though. They will not bring you out of ketosis cause they do not have citric acid they have malic (sp?) acid instead. I will update when I think of the name

Also, my main problem is that I pick. So she has said that if I am going to pick then I can have celery and/or cucumber cause they are mostly water and will not take me out of ketosis. So I feel really pleased now and feel like I could do this.

1lb away from 1 stone. Did you know that more often than not people notice your weight lose only after you have lost 1 and a half stone.

oggsfrog · 13/05/2008 13:40

Had a bad reaction to an antibiotic yesterday so only got down 1 shake before I spent afternoon and evening vomiting.
Feel better today and am not taking any more tabs.
Just tried Leek and Potato... Yuk! Can't say I've actually enjoyed any of the soups.

Well done Grumpy. Hope the addition of celery and cucumber make it easier to bear

grumpybum · 13/05/2008 14:22

The water is called Perfectly Clear. I had a look at a lot of the flavoured water in Asda and there were quite a few that use Malic Acid instead of citric acid. Quite useful to know if you are struggling with plain boring water!!!

oggsfrog, try taking the ready made 'bricks' with you to the festival (personally I think the chocolate ones are better than the banana ones). They are only about 20p more than the powder shakes but I think taste miles better and you can carry them around.

If you do decide to eat stick to meat/cheese ONLY (salads may be healthy but they are all carbs so you may drop out of ketosis). This is the advice my CD counsellor gave me because I do lots of business meetings over lunch so couldn't avoid eating sometimes. With the bricks & the odd burger without bap you should be ok during the festival.

The problem with alcohol of any kind is not just the calories it contains but also the calories you consume the next day if you get hungover. Not worth it, IMHO

oggsfrog · 14/05/2008 16:42

Why are they called bricks rather than cartons?
Thanks for the input Squiffy. I still haven't decided what to do yet. The majority of the food available will not be burgers, but lamb kebabs (with pitta, cous cous, salad, roasted veg, salsa), felafel, crépes with fillings, fresh curries, porridge, and soups etc.
The alcohol is tempting 'cos it is local brewed real ales, heather, gooseberry, ginger etc
Have to do more thinking....

towncalledmalice · 14/05/2008 17:58

had week 2 weigh-in today - lost 5lb, so am now down to 13st 9lb i'm delighted - 11lb in 2 weeks. can no longer stomach the shakes or bars at all, even the thought of them makes me nauseous. So will be sticking to choc tetra bricks/cartons and soups. oh god tell me i will keep this weight off, freaking me out a bit how quickly the weight is coming off.

oggsfrog · 14/05/2008 20:11

Well done .

grumpybum · 14/05/2008 21:11

well done malice. I am still suprised everytime I step on the scales - I half expect it to read my original weight (I check at least 3 times a day!!)

What is everyones target weight loss? I want to lose 39lb. 13 down 26 to go. I am third of the way through. What about everyone else???

oggsfrog · 15/05/2008 20:05

Weigh day today.... and after the first week I've lost 9lb . Stocked up on shakes and gave the soups a miss this week.

Grumpy, I want to lose 50lb... 9 down, 41 to go

towncalledmalice · 16/05/2008 00:47

well done!!
my first target is 11 stone but i would really like to get down to 9st 7lb. If i could get to 11 stone with the cambridge diet by the end of July and then lose the last stone and a half with a conventional "food" diet and loads of exercise. I would be so happy. I was 10 stone before getting pregnant and am a bit freaked out that i will never be happy with how i look again. i am also going to start doing callanetics. i used to do a class and it really tones you up. Have the video and book but couldn't motivate myself before. Will report back if i manage to do the workout tomorrow morning while DS at nursery. i am very 1980's in my approach to weight-loss!

oggsfrog · 16/05/2008 07:23

I've realised that I'm going to need to do some exercise if I'm going to shift this weight.
So joining TCM in the eighties theme I'm going to dig out my Beverley Callard workout video and give it a go

SpookyMadMummy · 16/05/2008 07:32

Morrning ladies, you are all doing well! Been a while since I looked at this thread!
I have a nasty chest infection at the moment so the diet is on hold for me. (I am trying to lose a few pounds for my holiday) I have antibiotics and have spent much of the last 2 days in bed!
Hopefully by monday I will be able to get back on it!

grumpybum · 16/05/2008 15:01

well done oggs.
I am going away for the weekend but I am really determined not to 'eat' this time. Am going to see loads of people I have not seen for a while so I am secretely hoping they are all going to comment on my weight loss!!!
Anyone heard from binkle???

grumpybum · 19/05/2008 09:39

well i got a few good comments of 'ohh you've lost weight' so am really pleased. not happy about the fact that i had a binge yesterday. i had a row with dp and reached for the sweet stuff. i am so cross with myself. the scales still look like i havt about 3lb this week. get weighed tomorrow.
how was everyones weekend?

towncalledmalice · 19/05/2008 16:14

am not doing too well on the diet - have not cheated as such but am feeling increasingly nauseous, like morning sickness (am NOT pregnant btw). i mustn't be drinking enough water but could only manage a couple of sips of tetra brick this morning and felt awful, really shivery & bad indigestion, even water tasted "off". had some coke zero last night - could this have caused it? had a pot of "full-fat" cottage cheese for lunch feel better but worried i've gone off the diet. has anyone else experienced this sort of thing and got back on track? Will have to start doing sole source plus.

eggfried · 19/05/2008 22:01

hi all

i've just found this thread and i've been doing CD for 12 weeks now. going into week 13 tomorrow.

i've lost 51.5lbs in this time. i've spent 10 weeks on ss and 2 weeks on ss+ (4 shakes + milk or 3 shakes + 200cal meal) - 600 cals aprox.

this diet does work 100% if you stick to it.

oggsfrog · 20/05/2008 07:34

Oh, well done you...

Have you never, never, ever, not ever cheated at all?
I'm on day 11 and have a four day music festival any day now and am trying to get myself into the right frame of mind to be able to cope.
TBh it's the drink that's tempting me more than the food. Was going to allow myself a small amount of vodka (least carbs).

oggsfrog · 21/05/2008 12:45

It's a bit quiet on here isn't it? Where are you all?
Right. Weigh day today (a day early as can't go tomorrow) and I'm another 3lbs down.

08.5.08 - 14st 1lb (start weight)
15.5.08 - 13st 6lb (-9lbs)
21.5.08 - 13st 3lb (-3lbs)

alinali · 21/05/2008 15:01

well hey...
im new here..im thinking of starting this cambridge diet...but im not sure about it cos there is no solid food...just the shakes..as iv've heard...dont u people get hungry with only 3 "meals"??? i need to loose 20kg...how much time it might take me?

alinali · 21/05/2008 15:02

hmm...also which tastes do u think are better? so i know what to pick..

grumpybum · 21/05/2008 19:43

HI

so eggfried - did you cheat atall?? did you put on ever?

well done oggs another 3lb gone forever. I have been tempted by the drink too and would def go for Vodka if you have to have a drink.

alinali - come on join in. we can all do it together. Get yourself in the mindset, try not to think about food. we all have different opinions on the shakes and soups, personally I cannot stand anything in powder form cause when I mix it it is either frothy or lumpy - sometimes both. I only have ready mixed milkshake or the bars.

I got weighed yesterday and only lost 1lb. I don't feel bad cause I know why - I had a binge on Monday. Totally random but I ate all the things that have been taunting me from the kitchen cupboards.

grumpybum · 21/05/2008 19:48

20kgs is around 44lb. Ideally you could lose around 14lb a month so 20kgs should take around 12 weeks. I have lost 14lb in 4 weeks and have 25 still to go!!

towncalledmalice · 21/05/2008 19:53

welcome, personally the tetra bricks are best. I can no longer stomach any of the other cambridge products but think i'm probably the exception as most people find them fine. If you stick to the diet you won't be hungry after the first 3 days as you are in ketosis (google it!) and you will lose loads of weight without feeling hungry. I have sneaked the odd bit of extra cheese/meat and haven't gone out of ketosis.
Had my week 3 weigh-in today and lost another 5 lbs, so 16lbs in 3 wks NOT BAD!!!!

30/04 - 14st 6lb (start weight)
07/05 - 14st (-6lbs)
14/05 - 13st 9lb (-5lbs)
21/05 - 13st 4lb (-5lbs)

grumpybum · 21/05/2008 20:03

Start date 22/04/08 = 13st 11.75
Week one 29/04/08 = 13st 2 (-9.5)
Week two 06/05/08 = 13st 2 (sts)
Week three 12/05/08 = 12st 13 (-3.5)
Week four 20/05/08 = 12st 12.25 (-1)

I am 0.5lb away from 1 stone!!!! I got weighed in jeans, I knew I should have got changed before I went
