Hi

As my user name says this summer the Ryan Air seatbelt did not fit.
Yesterday I had to sit on a wooden deck chair and I found myself trying to Google what the weight limit could be

So tomorrow I start a diet.
So many threads on Mumsnet are for people much smaller than me
I'm 18 stones and 5lbs.

Please feel free to join if you are seriously overweight, please don't join if you are just averagely fat.

Hi @Fattitude and thanks x

Wow I am very impressed with all your activities! Well done to you. It all makes a difference to health as much as weight loss.

Me ... sorry I have nothing positive to report. I've slipped back this week. Eaten a bunch of crap. White rolls. Breaded chicken. Pizza. Had a glass or 2 of wine most nights. I'm fed up with myself really.
BMI nudging back to 32.5 as I was still 12 stone 4 when I looked last week.
Will weigh myself tomorrow and try to get back on track.

We are meeting DD's partner for the first time next week (they are staying the weekend) and I don't want to look like a fat haggard old woman ...

I'm stopping now because I want to be positive for everyone else on this journey. But it is bloody hard to keep going when you don't see results isn't it?
Seriously thinking about WLI to boost me into losing 2 stone quickly.

Minnie888 · 15/05/2025 20:05

It’s tough @Jaq27i feel you… I’ve not been doing too well totally stagnated and lost any form of motivation. At the start my DH was doing it with me but he gave up ages ago and I just bloody love food. I enjoy looking forward to a glass of wine or a little snack after tea. I bloody enjoy it haha. Which is why I think weight loss jabs wouldn’t work for me because I’d lose the weight whilst the food noise is turned off but as soon as I stop I’d pile it all on again. For now success for me is not gaining weight and keeping off the weight I did lose because I do feel so much healthier Grin

Jaq27 · 15/05/2025 20:17

Love your positivity @Minnie888 !

got to find my own motivation x

Petra42 · 15/05/2025 22:11

Thanks all, i guess it depresses me that my friend is now 20kg less than me due to WLI yet I'm struggling to lose a thing. That said I looked at my TDEE and realised I should be eating 1400 calories to lose anything so clearly I'm doing something wrong. I'm going to try calories counting to see whether this will work.

SW again: 98kg
GW 80kg

Jaq27 · 16/05/2025 09:32

Hi all,

Heading to the weekend and as expected I've stuck at 12st 5 lbs ... so not lost any of the 'cruise weight'.

I am not that surprised as I've eaten what I like this week. As @Minnie888 says, I just bloody love food and cooking and celebrating good food and I enjoy a few glasses of wine ...
DH is a bad influence on me. He likes to drink (alcohol) every night and I can see he is 'sad' that I don't cook the sumptuous evening meals he's been used to for 35 years.
Having said that, I've taken control of my own food and drink for the past 4 months. It's been my own decision to relax this week and go back to my previous ways.

@Petra42 yeh I am jealous of those on WLI too. it just looks like such a quick fix. I feel like if I could lose 2 stone - or just see the bloody scales move in the right direction!!!! - I'd have the motivation to carry on looking after my weight loss and my health.

Have a good weekend everyone x

Petra42 · 16/05/2025 09:38

@Jaq27 there is a thread running at the moment about people piling the weight back on once they stop the drugs. I am watching others to see if this happens. Id have thought once you see yourself slim, then that alone will help stay off the bigger portion sizes?

Im starting with the calorie counting and also intermittent fasting. Though on the way home today all i could think about was BREAD!

Sunshineandrainbow · 17/05/2025 10:10

Hi everyone not posted for a while. Echoing the loving the food and eating posts. Why can't I just eat to live rather than live to eat!!!

I have not weighed myself for weeks every Saturday comes and I think I won't weigh I will be good all week and weigh next Saturday and that Saturday doesn't come! I am scared if it has gone up too much it will send me down a spiral.

I am trying to add stir-fry veg to every meal to bulk it out and get some goodness in. And I am having home made veg soup for lunch but I added too much potato this week which I shouldn't have.

GrammarTeacher · 17/05/2025 10:40

Hi all, I’m now at 24.6lb lost since 31st March. To avoid too much brain noise I actually weigh myself in kilos as I can’t visualise that for a person (I think in stones and lbs) butI convert my lose back.
Starting weight was a rather large 131.6kg so still really quite a long way to go.
Anyway, my real point was to say that what I’m doing to do this is ride challenges on my Peloton, 10km steps a day, couch 2 5km (not long added I’m on week 3) and a free programme through our local football club called Fit U’s. It’s not really anything I don’t know but it provides some accountability alongside some very interesting discussions about people’s barriers to weight loss that would make a fascinating sociology/sports science study!
Anyway, my husband did the programme at the start of the year and has now lost over 30kg! Thoroughly recommend it.

And finally, I’m quite proud of myself went out after work to Zizzi’s and the pub. Just had Diet Coke at the pub and a relatively low cal dish (800kcal - had accounted in my planning for around 1250!) at Zizzi’s. When it comes to food I’m just calorie counting, because of my high starting weight that gives me an allowance of 2,300 calories to be in a 600kcal daily deficit. Now I’m making better choices - that’s surprisingly tough!

Been put off the injections. Husband tried but ended up off work for a week due to gastric symptoms. I’m a teacher so that really isn’t viable.

Anyway, good luck to all. And remember it’s the choices over time that matter, not an individual meal or day.

Mumwithbaggage · 17/05/2025 19:36

Gosh, so much lovely positivity here.

I'm feeling sorry for myself - I know I look better, feel better and I'm exercising more and eating more healthily but I'm struggling to find something lovely to wear for my son's wedding 7 weeks away. Have an it'll do dress which I don't love but everything makes me look like an ugly haggard old heffalump. Being 5'10 is as much of a barrier as my size. Everything is too high waisted and I just feel frumpy and like my clothes don't fit. I'm quite happy with my everyday clothes. Almost resorting to making a dress!!

Jaq27 · 18/05/2025 15:44

This great advice!!! >>>
from @GrammarTeacher

‘remember it’s the choices over time that matter, not an individual meal or day’
has made me feel better about falling off the wagon.
thank you!
@Mumwithbaggage is there nowhere near you that offers a dress consultation session? Somewhere to try a lot of stuff on?
Being small (5ft 1) I totally get what you’re saying about dresses that sag in the wrong places and too tight in others. I ended up buying a dress and then getting it altered to fit me (£25). It was well worth it!
7 weeks is still time to shift a few lbs … wishing you luck with the dress hunt! Xx

Mumwithbaggage · 18/05/2025 16:41

Great advice indeed!

@Jaq27 thank you! What's that thing they say on MN? I've given my head a wobble and ordered a couple of dresses from Boden. Another should arrive soon from Etsy. And as you say, time to shift a few pounds. Will head for the gym before my aqua class tomorrow. Just want something I really like rather than something I bought because it fits!! x

GrammarTeacher · 19/05/2025 07:48

I’d like to claim it as my own but I got it from The Fitness Chef on Instagram. And actually years ago it was an adaptation on Rosemary Conley’s programme as well where you could plan to enjoy a function/celebration or just a nice meal and get back on it. I planned to take last Friday off as knew I was eating at Zizzi’s but ended up with a meal that was under 800 cals and coming under my (admittedly high at the moment TDEE) and the week before was more relaxed as it was last lessons with year 13 (which means Brownies) and last day celebration (which meant Mr Whippy!). Anyway, now 25lbs down since 31st March and not working out how far there is to go yet (but it’s a long way!).

Petra42 · 19/05/2025 09:56

Hi everyone - this weekend i have started making a concerted effort to choose wisely and log foods on myfitness pal and lost a grand total of 1lb! But given the scales havent moved in ages, im taking his as a small win

SW 98
CW 97.4
GW 80

Family members/friends are on WLI so im officially the snail!

Jaq27 · 19/05/2025 10:37

Well done for controlling the 'days off' @GrammarTeacher.
I am approaching this week with a new mindset and am determined to make the scales go backwards after no loss for 4 weeks ... damn that bloody cruise. The food and drink seems to have stuck to me like a velcro fat suit.

Every loss is a triumph @Petra42 !
I hope you are feeling better this week? How are things with you?
I find big life events have really thrown me off track. One of my best friends took his life. Lost my biggest client so lost major monthly income. Son moved back in with us until he can find a job.
It all mounts up and my focus on health and diet gets pushed to the side.

BMI - currently 32.7

CW - 12.5 stone
GW - 10 stone (this is still 'overweight' but I'd be happy with it. Sadistic BMI chart says I should be 7.5 stones LOL)

I've got just over a month to get down to 12 stone before the dreaded GP/BP check-in. It'd be a miracle if I could get below 12 ...

Have a good week everyone x

Mumwithbaggage · 19/05/2025 12:10

@GrammarTeacher your inspirational weight loss has saved me from butter laden toast this morning so thank you for that!

@Jaq27 so sorry about your friend. You've very right - big events can throw you right off track. New week new start.

Here's to a positive week everyone! However much weight we lose, it seems we're all moving more and taking better care of ourselves.

Not sure it’s inspirational - I have a long way to go and so far only two people have noticed!

Dollyparot200 · 19/05/2025 17:49

Please can I join I need tips. I'm just over 5 ft 4 I've shrunk 2 inches. I'm 95 kilos I have lost some weight because I have gallstones so im only eating lowfat so I've lost nearly 3 stone but I seem to be sticking at 95. I have porridge and fruit for breakfast, veg soup I make myself for lunch, fish and veg or curry for tea, I can also eat rice and a small amount of pizza so I save this for a treat. I've just went back to work 2 shifts a week so hoping that will help, but im feeling quite unwell a lot of the time, not sure how I can cut back more because I'm hungry

Powerups · 20/05/2025 06:50

Morning All, been a pretty good week this week, lost 2.2lbs so overall loss now at 37lbs in 14 weeks. Feeling a lot better about myself, I’ve still a long way to go but it’s heading in the right direction.

Keeping up with the walking everyday, (8-10,000 steps) yoga 2/3 times a week, tennis every week and today I’m introducing the weight sessions at the gym.

I’ve found logging everything I’m eating on MyFitnessPal has been a game changer, I know I’m eating in calorie deficit, so when the scales don’t show a loss I don’t take it to heart, as I know I’m staying consistent. As they say it’s a marathon not a sprint! Have a great week all x

Jaq27 · 20/05/2025 10:30

Welcome @Dollyparot200
Well done on your loss! Sorry you haven't been feeling too good. I don't know anything about dieting with gallstone problems - hopefully someone else will be along to help.
Remember to drink plenty of water. It's good for your gall bladder, makes you feel less hungry and also helps the body to burn off fat.

@Powerups wow that's very impressive! Brilliant. Where do you find the energy to do all that walking and sporty stuff?! I feel so tired and lethargic at the moment I'm not even doing my daily walk to the beach.
I might try MyFitnessPal to keep me on the straight and narrow, and show me I am achieving even when I don't lose a lb.
However ... had another off-piste night last night (son's interview didn't go well) and we ended up going out for a pizza to talk it over and I had a few glasses of wine.
Plusses: I didn't have a starter while the boys ate theirs. I had the Leggara (the lower calorie pizza ring with the salad in the middle) and no dessert.
Better than going the whole hog I suppose! x

Dollyparot200 · 20/05/2025 10:33

@Jaq27 Thanks I hope someone else can advise re gallstones. Yes I will try more water

Powerups · 20/05/2025 12:13

@Jaq27 I have a very active border collie so the walking is a definite needs must, she’s a nightmare if she’s not had enough exercise! The rest is stuff I love doing so it’s not difficult to keep it up, tried lots of different things to get to that point. I love pizza express and good for you on choosing the leggara and a couple of glass's of wine won’t hurt as long as you count them in your calories.

GrammarTeacher · 20/05/2025 17:46

Off to musical Theatre Choir tonight which is usually a low steps day for me trying to keep it up though.
The programme I’m following through the local football club is tomorrow and I think we’ll be doing walking football or netball. Also week 4 run 1 of couch to 5km for me tomorrow morning. Which me luck for the 4 minute intervals!

EvangelineFox · 20/05/2025 23:24

@GrammarTeacher my local football club runs a similar course but sadly I just missed the last one! They are hoping to run another one in September Smile I'm considering restarting C25K as well but the running did aggravate my tendinitis so not sure about that.

@Powerups I would love a border collie!! We only have a very lazy cat, no pet walking required here Grin

GrammarTeacher · 21/05/2025 06:30

@EvangelineFox - that’s a shame. I managed the run this morning

Jaq27 · 21/05/2025 11:57

@GrammarTeacher well done on the 4 min runs! I did Couch25k 4 years ago. One of the best things I ever did. After being told by school I was 'unsporty' I felt a real sense of achievement in my 50s when I was actually able to run.

The program is magic! I'd do it again if I was 2 stone lighter.

Thanks for your comments @Powerups x it does help to know I'm trying. My DH and DS notice nothing. They had battered fish, chunky triple fried chips and mushy peas and curry sauce last night. And today they are having white French bread with cheese and ham for lunch ... :(
