I have been out of control since we got back from holidays 6 weeks ago. For some reason can't get get inti the mindset of eating healthily for more then 5 days to the point i binge even on dark chocolate. The only way for me is to do 30 days of no sugar , not even dark chocolate and hopefully my mind will rest again. Anyway wants to join me from tomorrow?

Those that completely cut out all sugar, included added to foods and bread etc, what does your daily food intake look like, please?

mikado1 · 20/08/2024 20:23

I would have berries, yoghurt and nuts in the morning
Veg omelette with salad for lunch
Regular dinner with veg instead of white rice say. I do eat sweet potato and brown rice sometimes.
Plan is the best thing and for me, 3 meals zero snacks.

UCDLA · 20/08/2024 20:40

@cosietea when I was very strict with it, I would have Greek yoghurt with banana, or an omelette or bacon for breakfast, then tuna or chicken salad for lunch, dinner would often be a stir fry with a protein and veg with cauli rice. Sometimes if the kids were having spag bol I'd just have the bol without the spag! And a very small bit of sauce on stir fry. You can get keto/sugar free stir fry sauces and also things like low carb jams and ketchups but I'm not keen, so just allow myself a tiny bit. I aimed for under 25g of carbs per day, tracking on MFP.

I am an A grade sugar addict and I'd love to do this.... please can someone explain the rules eg around fruit? Is that ok to eat or is it literally nothing sweet? Thanks for any help.

TeamPolin · 21/08/2024 10:06

@Treesnbirds I don't think there are rules - do what works for you. Any change you can stick to for 30 days has a positive effect.

I'm cutting out all sweet treats - chocolate, biscuits, cakes, puds, ice cream etc. And I'm also going carb free for breakfast - generally either yogurt /nuts or eggs. I'm not worrying about going proper Keto or check labels for hidden sugars etc. Basically, I'm doing what's sustainable for me.

Bananamuffins123 · 21/08/2024 10:21

Yes i am trying to avoid the obvious so basically stuff that taste sweet, chocolate, biscuits, icecream. Eat protein for breakfast as it definitely helps me throughout the day. I love boiled eggs or greek yoghurt for breakfast, protein yoghurt as a snack for example. I also make those muffins: pot of cottage cheese mixed with an egg or 2 ,add oats, some protein powder or dried milk powder, grated apple plus some sweetner if you like.

Yes me too!

Sugar is my kryptonite

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/08/2024 13:46

I don't cut out whole fruit but I do try to avoid dried fruit and things like natural bars/nkd bars etc even though they are technically fruit

TeamPolin · 21/08/2024 17:30

Really craving a sweet treat today. The day feels really boring without a cheeky biscuit or something.

Anyone else feel like a big source of pleasure has gone?

Must. Stay. Strong. 💪

Marlaysydney12 · 21/08/2024 20:57

How is everyone doing? I'm not looking to hard for hidden sugar but have cut out sweets, cakes, biscuits, sugary drinks and juices. Have to say, I've been having fewer cravings but have been properly hungry a few times. E.g. having a rumbling tummy rather than craving food. I think this is a good start!

Songlines · 21/08/2024 21:01

Just reaching the end of day 2 and it's been okay. In fact surprisingly so. I'm on the road all day tomorrow which I suspect will be harder

Bananamuffins123 · 22/08/2024 20:57

How is everyone doing? Day 4 and i couldn't resist, had a square of dark chocolate.

@Bananamuffins123 I'm doing terribly, I don't know what's happened to me. I have eaten so so so much rubbish today!! I'm determined to break the cycle though so will try again tomorrow

UCDLA · 22/08/2024 21:50

Also done there

UCDLA · 22/08/2024 21:51

Posted too soon!

...Terribly. Too much crap in the house and I can't resist. I did well in the morning, big protein breakfast that saw me right through til about 2.30. Then I got bored. Found biscuits, then ended up having my dc leftover pizza for tea.

Start again in the morning. Sigh.

LoudSnoringDog · 23/08/2024 06:20

I think I might join you... my sugar addiction is out of hand. I spoon ate Nutella out of the jar last night Hmm

PaminaMozart · 23/08/2024 06:50

I have been virtually sugar free for several years and I highly recommend it. The cravings disappear after a while. I also avoid UPF and refined carbs.

I do eat fruit most days, but apart from a very rare slice of birthday cake or glass of bubbly, and an occasional ice cream - my weakness - I don't touch foods/drinks that contain added sugars or artificial sweeteners.

I found Dr Mark Hyman's The Blood Sugar Solution very enlightening and inspiring. Also Dr Becky Gillaspy's short talks on YouTube.

Food, especially vegetables, taste so much 'tastier' when taste buds are not continually assaulted by sugar and UPFs. I enjoy my food so much more, and yet I have lost weight. I call this a win-win!

Newstarts1 · 23/08/2024 08:47

I have a celebration coming up at end of month and there will be cake! I’d love to start this once I’ve devoured the cake on September 2nd.

The main culprits me for me are usually cakes (homemade usually), pastries and white bread and occasionally biscuits and ice cream so I’ll mainly focus on giving all those up. I don’t actually eat much chocolate or sweets like haribo etc but I’ll steer clear of them too.

I don’t have sugar in my tea or coffee but I usually eat Greek yoghurt with a teaspoon or two of honey. I think I’ll keep that for now as I feel it helps with my sugar cravings. And I’ll definitely be eating whole fruits.

If I can just give up all the cakes etc I’ll be chuffed.

I did this with biscoff spread so often that I just stopped buying it! Haven’t had a jar in my house since last year which is a shame as I love the taste (clearly!) but I just can’t be trusted around it right now. 😬

TeamPolin · 23/08/2024 14:37

Just taken my kid to the ice cream parlor and all I had was a Diet Coke! Would normally want to dive headlong into a waffle sundae. Was tough, but I did it! 😁

TeamPolin · 24/08/2024 09:45

5 days in. Thought I'd weigh myself this morning. I've lost 3lb Smile

PaminaMozart · 24/08/2024 10:11

That's brilliant, @TeamPolin !

But don't get discouraged if it stalls at any time - it can be very unpredictable.

Definitely worth it....... no longer being a slave to crap sugar cravings.

TeamPolin · 24/08/2024 10:47

@PaminaMozart good to know! Am menopausal so any weight loss at all is bonus.

orangetulipsinbloom · 25/08/2024 21:49

How is everyone doing? Five day streak and trousers quite loose. I found it quite easy so far but will be visiting friends tomorrow and am not sure I will be able to refuse cakes etc politely. Unfortunately, once I eat something sweet, I get hooked again...

TeamPolin · 25/08/2024 23:15

Stay strong @orangetulipsinbloom easier to keep going than fall off the wagon and have to start over again!
