Anyone else out there with 5 plus stones to lose? Who fancies doing a weekly weigh in with me?

I have got really overweight in the last couple of years and would love to meet some others who might be trying to cut down but not exactly dieting. Where do you start when there is so much to lose? Any tips on evening snacking? TIA

your poor cat RG - is it serious?

RGPargy · 21/04/2008 21:46

He's got a pee pipe problem. It keeps blocking up, which means that he cant pee, which in turn will obviously be very very bad for him because all the toxins that are released with wee will go back into his body (something like that anyway). He's had to stay in Kitty Hospital from Friday night til Sunday night and had to have a catheta put in under general. Ouch! Cue massive vet bills, one poorly kitty and (on finding out the amount so far) one extremely grumpy DP!!

I had to take him back again today to see how he was and his pee pipe was blocking up again and she had to express his bladder for him (eww). Tomorrow we will see if he has to be hospitalised again for another catheta. The costs are going to be astronomical!!!

Riallyclean · 21/04/2008 21:57

poor thing (and poor you with the bills)

RGPargy · 21/04/2008 22:04

Yeah he's not himself at all, bless him. I hope he gets better soon because the worst case scenario according to the vet is amputation of his penis!!

samiestresure · 21/04/2008 22:26

bigbellylady · 22/04/2008 07:46

wow - just tried some trousers on that have been in my wardrobe for about a year and they actually fit at last
This diet and fitness malarky must be working.

Hope it does not resort to penis amputation !

KelaH · 22/04/2008 07:54

1lb off this week, but still a total loss of 6lb because I had gained 1lb back last week and not written it down in the right place

I have hurt my back. Please tell me even slow, painful, limpy walking will do some good?

KelaH · 22/04/2008 11:46

Not only that Ria, but it will help your back - my DH suffers with a bad back (was off work yesterday and shouldn't be in today ), and has been told that he needs to keep moving rather than sit still.

Well done on losing the lb

Ags · 22/04/2008 12:38

Well done Ria! Only a pound more to the magic half stone!

I went to my meeting today and made a bit of an idiot of myself by crying! I lost 4.5 pounds and I was so delighted I cried!

jaz236 · 22/04/2008 16:23

i sound enthusiastic now, but im off to fatfighters in 30 mins, its the weigh in!!

Ags · 22/04/2008 16:49

Good luck Jaz. Sending postive light vibes!!

Kela, thanks, no idea what is different this week. I seem to have a slow/quick pattern. So could lose half a pound one week and 4 pounds the next with very little variation in diet. However, I am very grateful to be losing quite quickly as it is the best motivation in the world.

RGPargy · 22/04/2008 16:54

Congrats on your losses everyone!

Baby asleep on me so will write more later.

ooops sorry its 2 and half - so ive lost 4 lbs in the last 2 weeks. so tnite ive had 2 of those gorgous caramel bars ww ones, a big salad and 2 fishfingers .

I reckon its the soups im making thats doing the trick. oh and plus the walking with the buggy!

my baby who is only 4 months old sits on his buggy all snug whilst his mum tackles the hills and is red faced with sweating!! ha! roll on to when i will be looking hot for summer!! well i can dream cant i?

RGPargy · 22/04/2008 21:27

Well done Jaz! Well done Ags!!

So it's day 2 of WW and i've gone over - AGAIN!!!!

I think my problem is that because i've got so many points, i kinda get a bit complacent about what i'm eating because i think "ah that's ok, i've got plenty left for dinner" and then before i know it, i've mounted up a couple too many. I was 3 over tonight! Sake!!

I'll deffo try harder tomorrow and see if i can make up the extra points i've had by saving some tomorrow and Thursday. I've just GOT to have had a loss by Monday!!!

What can i eat to fill me up?? I dont know if it's psychological or not but i've not long had dinner but i feel STARVING already! I went to bed hungry last night and woke up ravenous! It's probably all in my head or the fact that i'm eating the wrong sorts of food again.

Riallyclean · 22/04/2008 22:06

RG, it might take a couple of days to adjust? Can you plan ahead including dinner and leave X amount of points for your treats for the day? In theory that's how I do it. But if you're going over by less every day you're getting there.

Can't help with the being hungry, other than saving up a couple for something just in case, and lots of no point salad/soups. HTH.
Rx

RGPargy · 22/04/2008 22:12

Thanx Ria. I'm actually over by one more point tonight than yesterday lol. Yes, i will have to plan ahead i think. What's this free soup you speak of?! Spill the beanz!

Riallyclean · 22/04/2008 23:27

basically you make soup with free veg, from memory-

onion, garlic, carrot, swede, peppers, celery etc (no point ones so not potato, parsnip, sweetcorn, etc), tinned tomatoes etc etc

blend til smooth/chosen consistency

and eat as much as you like!!!

though sadly I struggle with soup without lots of fresh bread and butter!

There is a delicious recipe in one of my mags from last year for a soup with sweet potato & squash & chilli flakes - it's 3 point per portion (and not a cheap option) but it's bloody gorgeous!

WW is all about manipulation

Riallyclean · 22/04/2008 23:30

or go for really low point ones. I will post some soup recipes over the next couple of days (looking at my cookbooks in detail should give me a big kick up the arse) but I have a baby who should be in bed asleep on my vast lap just now.

KelaH · 23/04/2008 07:14

The other thing I find really helpful is to split the day in half - have half your points for breakfast, lunch and daytime snacks, leaving half for dinner and evening snacks - you probably won't need them all and might well go under, but at least you won't run out.

I also make a really nice low point casserole - sautee onions or shallots in a little oil (yes, oil!! - use fry light if you want to make it really low but I have plenty of points so can make it taste nice!), add mushrooms and quorn chunks (or chicken if you aren't veggie) and cook for a bit longer. Then stir in a tablespoon of flour (for thickening) and then add plenty of stock. Bring to the boil, add chopped carrots, peas and sweet potato (or whatever veg you like), plus tomato puree, and whatever seasoning you like and cook in the oven on a lowish heat for an hour or so. My version works out at about 6 points for a large portion, and is incredibly filling.

Well I am off to WW today, wish me luck!!
